This fountain can be found on Komödienstrasse, next to Kölnisches Stadtmuseum and close to the ancient Roman city walls. Although the fountain actually has nothing to do with the Roman period except for the theme of the fountain. The fountain takes it's inspiration from Italian fountains, decorated with images of Romans and is topped with a tall column where stands a sculpture of the wolf that suckled Remus and Romulus, the mythical founders of Rome. One of the more interesting fountain in Cologne, but only visit if you have time as it's well off the tourist circuit of the city.

Unfortunately, it is currently completely surrounded by city employees with construction vehicles and a privacy screen, at least the upper part. The lower part is free, but the water doesn't run, so the fountain doesn't look like one at all. It may be pretty here in summer, but now in October it's not worth making the extra journey. In any case, for me as an admirer of Rome, the fountain had no value.

Römerbrunnen, Cologne - Franz Brantzky 1914-1915 - is a relatively old, historical water fountain with a large animal on the column in the city center.

(Translated by Google) The rose garden is really wonderful, beautiful and worth seeing ... When you come into the garden there is a wonderful fragrance in the air and just smells of a lot of roses. A small flower paradise in the middle of Cologne where you can let your mind wander ... Take a book with you and enjoy the atmosphere .... And the sight of the different roses in all the walls ...

After its destruction in World War II, the Roman fountain was restored very well and authentically.

Franz Brantzky built the fountain in 1915, but due to serious war damage had to be repaired in 1955. The she-wolf, who, according to legend, suckled the Roman city founders Romulus and Remus, is enthroned on a pillar. On the sides of the basin there are "ancient" Roman reliefs. However, this fountain has nothing to do with the Roman period except the theme. This fountain therefore has a purely decorative function.

The original fountain from 1914/1915 was badly damaged in the Second World War. In its current form, it is a redesign (from the remains of the original) from the post-war period. Unfortunately, it hasn't been in particularly good condition for a long time... time, the weather and certainly the exhaust fumes have left unsightly traces.

From the cathedral, the Komödienstraße leads to the castle wall, where the famous Roman fountain stands. Franz Brantzky built the fountain as early as 1915, but heavy wartime destruction made a restoration necessary in 1955. Perched on a pillar, the wolf, who according to legend, nursed the Roman city founders Romulus and Remus.

The beautiful Roman fountain was built in 1915 by Franz Brantzky. Unfortunately it was destroyed during the Second World War. In 1955 the fountain was rebuilt. One must be aware that this fountain is a replica of an ancient fountain. Very easy to reach by public transport (Appellhofplatz stop). Construction work has been taking place in the upper area for months. Unfortunately, the relief panels in the lower area are no longer well preserved. There are several benches that invite you to linger. It's worth a visit.

Stone monument on the “Burgmauer” street. It's from Roman times. The EL DE house is also nearby. It's in a permanent exhibition. Against forgetting. About Germany's darkest political period 1933 - 1945 & after. But also e.g. Edelweiss Pirates.

I think it's good the way it was built. The Römerbrunnen is also a great place to be in To take a break in the midday heat in summer. The trees provide wonderful shade. I didn't feel comfortable in this hotel. 1) Bathroom: The bathroom is ancient (tiles from the 70s?), very small and seems very unhygienic. The toilet seat is loose and crooked. The sink is so small that you can hardly wash anything in it except your hands. After we had to wash something in there and closed the drain, the water stopped draining. The neighbor has the bathroom outside in the hallway, that's not possible... 2) Location Room: Even if the hotel is called that… The room is right next to the giant fountain, or rather a waterfall according to the volume. As soon as it is switched on in the morning, you can no longer sleep in peace, apart from the noise from the street that is right next to it. Of course, the hotel is named after it, but it still bothers me because I didn't think it would be that loud. 3) WiFi As in most hotels in Germany, the WiFi doesn't work at all. The connection drops every 5 minutes without lying. 4) Room service We had always refused service in the morning, so we didn't expect anyone to come later. But once in the afternoon someone was there, but they only put towels in there, didn't clean the beds or anything else... Conclusion: better 10-20 euros more and somewhere else...

(Translated by Google) The Roman Fountain, created by Franz Brantzky in 1915, was destroyed in the Second World War. The modified reconstruction based on a design by Karl Band took place in 1955 and represents its current appearance. It is a large pool surrounded by a shallow pool that drains overflowing water. Ancient Roman reliefs are embedded on the sides of the basin. Wells from Roman times were often excavated, which turned out to be different. The form shown can therefore be viewed as a plausible replica. Even if it is not an antique original with the exception of the reliefs, it is still a vivid object.

Things like this just seem so "ho, hum" in Germany. There's so much history! This is a fort built in the mid 1800's. There's a rose garden ON TOP!! And there are a few great kid parks right around it. It's almost totally hidden from view on the street. If you find Lent Park, it's right next door. You can't miss it. Highly recommended!!

  • 4/5 Ricardo M. 7 years ago on Google
This fort was part of the second line of the city defences, built when gunpowder was in use. It is now probably the better preserved fort in the city, "lost" in the middle of the ring, with an amazing rose garden. If it had some kind of permanent public service, like a thematic bar/restaurant, it would be even better.
