If I could give this restaurant more stars I would! The food is spot on and absolutely delicious. After traveling around Sri Lanka for a month and tasting the food everywhere, this has my favorite flavors of curry and the most amazing hoppers. My favorite was the pumpkin curry and the okra, as well as the hoppers. Everyone has to try this restaurant! The prices are also very reasonable for the quality of the food. The service is impeccable as well.

This is a fairly decent Sri Lankan restaurant to have some traditional cuisine. They have a very good spread on their menu too. However, it took a really long time for the food to be served and the carbs were a tad cold too although the curries were warm. The ambience is pretty decent and the air conditioning makes it very desirable during warm weather.

🍽️ Just had the most delicious authentic Jaffna food at this restaurant! 😋 Started with Odiyal Kool, a thick seafood soup thickened with odiyal flour. (One of Jaffna’s signs dishes)🍲 Then, savored Poricha Meen Puttu (fried fish puttu) paired with Kanavai Pirattal (cuttlefish) & Prawn Curry. 🦑🍤 The Jaggery Hoppers & Milk Hoppers were show stoppers! 🥞🥛 If you’re in Sri Lanka and craving Jaffna cuisine, this is a must-visit place. 🇱🇰 📍 @palmyrahrestaurant Overall score 9/10 🔹 Odiyal Kool - LKR 1150 (AED 13) 🔹 Poricha Meen Puttu - LKR 820 (AED 10) 🔹 Kanavai Pirattal - LKR - 2130 (AED 24) 🔹 Prawn Curry - LKR 2600 (AED 29) 🔹 Milk Hoppers - LKR 180 (AED 2) 🔹 Jaggery Hoppers - LKR 230 (AED 2.6)

Good and clean. Food was too spicy but very good at the same time. Prices for Sri Lanka are high but worth it

We ordered a variety of side dishes and sambols, along with string hoppers, coconut hoppers, beef poriyal, and the odiyal kool. We were brought the pal rasam and papadum as free sides. Everything was so tasty, and fresh, the service was so friendly and fast, and the vibe was cosy, family friendly, and everyone in the room was clearly having a lovely leisurely meal. I could not recommend this place more, and will definitely return if given the chance. Additionally- mixed drinks are very reasonabley priced.

Authentic Jaffna style foods served here. Mutton Palporiyal, fish pittu, milk hoppers, ral varai are their best dishes.

We generally Order 2 to 3 times a week from Palmyra Restaurant from Renuka Hotel. This time our order was a disaster. It was sent with the contents all spilt inside the polythene bag through which the Kool soup was leaking. When tried to inform the restaurant, Chef Gayan came on line and said it was not their responsibility and refused to replace the order. We went without dinner since we have paid dearly for it once and cannot afford to pay again to repeat the order. We are very unhappy with the attitude and service of Chef Gayan, Palmyra restaurant and Renuka Hotel. Please take care that it doesn’t happen to you!

My god try the hoppers…. Best thing in town…. The curries are highly priced but it’s worth the money and their potions are very good… speak to the staff and they will tell you what to order… 10/10 for the speed of service…

Have visited this place before but was disappointed this time. The tables looked haphazardly layed and gave more the impression of a wayside eating place than a restaurant in a decent hotel. The curries we had with our hoppers were nothing exceptional. The hoppers were OK though. Had to look for the chocolate sauce which was served with the vanilla ice cream. Overall- disappointing!

We went for dinner on our first night in Sri Lanka. The food was really nice, we both really love Sri Lankan food and were looking forward to eat it in the country. The service was attentive and polite. Would definitely come back

Superb dining experience at Palmyrah restaurant last night, with a cousin from Edinburgh and 2 others. Hoppers were crisp and the mutton paal poriyal and prawn varai - superlative. Service was excellent and smooth. All health and safety guidelines were observed with tables well spaced etc. Thank you, Hotel Renuka, for an enjoyable evening, dining out after a long time!

We went during the closing time. The restaurant was well maintained and food was good for the price. We were served with Rasam as a complimentary soup kinds, tasted a bit weird but ok. We ordered a prawn starter which was nothing but a prawn cutlet. Okish food

I recently dined at Palmyrah restaurant and wanted to share my feedback regarding my experience. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the crab curry I ordered. It seemed more like crab soup, with tiny minced crab pieces, and the taste left much to be desired. Nothing even close to the great Jaffna crab curry taste. Additionally, I found it disheartening that the waiter discouraged me from choosing the curry with real crabs. This not only impacted my meal but also raised concerns about the service quality. As a patron, I believe it's essential to communicate when expectations fall short. Do not recommend this restaurant.

Yet the best hoppers in town. The poriyal recipe has changed and its not anywhere as good as it was. A pity! Otherwise, quality is maintained. Our favourite place for what's on their menu.

It was my first time here, and we had their famous hoppers with several dishes. We ordered Jaffna style mutton and prawn dishes, which were heavenly. The jaggery and milk hoppers were out of this world. Will definitely be back here soon.

We visited this charming restaurant for dinner. Upon arrival, we were delighted to discover that they offer complementary papadam and a delicious soup (rasam)☕️ . The menu boasted a wide array of food options, but I highly recommend trying their Fish 🐟 Pittu with eggplant 🍆 curry. The desserts were equally impressive, with standout choices like tiramisu and chocolate brownies. While the mutton dish was on the pricier side, it didn't quite live up to my expectations in terms of uniqueness or flavor. However, the service was exceptionally prompt, and an added bonus was the convenient parking available in the Hotel Renuka's park area.

The food here was absolutely amazing! We were only in Colombo for one night and this place popped up as being near the hotel with good reviews. It is a basement restaurant and it was very busy when we arrived. Our waiter, whose name I have sadly lost, was so helpful in recommending dishes for us to try. We had egg hoppers with mutton curry and prawn curry and coconut chutney. He showed us how to eat it correctly and advised on how much food we would need. For afters we had a pot of ginger tea with very dark, almost treacle like candy, on the side - also delicious. We will be returning to this restaurant the night before we fly out as we will be staying at the same hotel in Colombo. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I ordered an extra spicy crab kotthu. The kotthu was great and my family ordered hoppers and masala dosa. I had samples from then too. It was very satisfactory. The service was excellent as they come fast without me needing to shout to the waiter.

Palmyra bad idea. Not authentic jaffna cuisine at all. Their service is Known for “service charge”. Everything taste extra sweet. I suppose the chef is diagnosed with high blood sugar 😂. Unfortunately Yarl eat house is far better then palmyra. It’s bluff.

This is not a odiyal kool tests , it’s tests like a sweet sauce, sugar, very disappointed 😡😡😡😡

Probably one of the oldest fine dining Srilankan food restaurants in Colombo City. The journey starts with a small (really small) cup of Rasam a peppery South Indian Soup. Which is really good. The hoppers are good, they had a jaggery hopper which was quite good and unique. The string hoppers were not so soft and were available in red only. Overall not a bad place but the city has better to offer.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a Sri Lankan friend for tasty and authentic food. Their specialty is food from Jaffna and it delicious. It’s really hard to decide what to order! I especially loved the Thosai Ghee, Ash Plantain Sambal and Cashew nut Curry.

Fantastic place to experience some local Sri Lankan food. Service was absolutely fantastic, with the waiter recommending dishes that he thought best represented Sri Lanka. We ate 7 different dishes and had 4 drinks. Total bill was 9000 rps (totally worth it).

Very nice hoppers and a massive variety of sambols - I tried the pumpkin curry (average) and carrot coconut (sensational). My favourite is the milk hopper and it’s rare to find so do try when you go there. The restaurant is in the basement so lighting not that great. When I went there, there were more staff than patrons and they kinda stared at you while you eat so a bit interesting experience lol. Baked crab was just so so and they put way too much cheese on top I had to scrape most of it

This place was SO good! The local food and service was excellent. We didn’t know exactly what to order so our server helped us out. We left so full and satisfied. I would highly recommend this place.

Hadn't been for over 20 years. Hoppers as good as ever. If you order a cocktail...be explicit as to what and how much goes into it
