Before I start, This is an Indian Cuisine but the main items they have are Rice items and Bread(Naan, Parota, Roti) items. Don't expect to get Idly, Dosai and Puri here. But you can find many intersting items from the menu. You will be served with Tomato Rasam amd Papadam soon as you have arrived. That Tomato rasam is great. We had Several varieties of Naan and some starters which are kind of a Yoghurt/Curd fries. That fry is called some sort of Kebab is something new I tried and tasted good. Naans are exceptional but smaller than what I expected with my experience with other places I tried. The atmosphere is great, they have a large seating area divided into 2 parts. Service is exceptional. Prices are expensive but you cant expect less from a restaurant thats inside a Hotel. There will be 10% service tax and 20% government levy tax. Recommended if you want to celebrate a day to remember with your loved ones.

1st visit, You can find authentic Indian cuisine here. A fabulous 5 star restaurant with fine dining. Tried several bread options in naan and mutton stuffed kheema. Non veg and veg side dishes are also exceptional and quite mouth watering. 2nd visit , Went on a Sunday around 11:45 and they said it's opening at 12:30. Hence better make a reservation prior.

This Indian cuisine restaurant located at Taj Samudra is one of the worst Indian restaurants in Colombo. To start with the service was pathetic. We were a group of 20 including children. And although we were specific that we would like the children's order brought first it came last. The waiters seem to be running pillars to post and seem to be lost as if they did not know what to do. When the food finally came they were unable to serve everyone and several of us did not get what was ordered utter chaos. Even a simple thing like serving drinking water could not be carried out correctly as a few bottles of water were randomly placed at the table which was not in the right ratio. When portions of Chicken Tikka were served no one bothers to check if they wanted the onion salad which was part of the dish. The food (whatever we got) was nothing great. The average cost per person was LKR 8000 which was exorbitant considering we never ordered anything other than the main course. Overall a very disappointing experience and I would not like to return again.

I do not how people rated it at 4.1 stars. Let me tell you the facts. I went to Navartna on the 16th May 2021. Price wise its ok for a 5star resturant but the food was terrible. They did not had Dosa ... i cant believe Taj being an indian brand. They hd briyani , to say it was good but there were no proper condiments to eat it such as a spicy gravy and a proper raita. They offer free rasam which is horrific. Since i have tried rasam from chutneys and grand hotel nuwaraeliya. You can use it to wash your plates from it no worth at all. All in all what i would suggest is that try other resturants such as chutneys at cinnamon you will feel the difference.

Restaurant looks indian, but all food lacks true Indian taste, All north Indian items lack spice, too sweet & too tasteless. Totally felt like a non-Indian restaurant.

Been there twice in my stay of 3 days. I tried pure vegetarian dishes. Pros: 1) Staff is courteous. 2) Food is tasty and is served with complementary Rasam and Papadam. 3) Also has Live orchestra music (flute, tabla) to enjoy some Indian songs. 4) Location is very convenient Cons: 1) Ambience looks a bit old now, so can be renovated further. However, it is not a big disadvantage as it is still housed inside Taj Samudra hotel which is very majestic and with enhanced security checks.

Service was the only good thing.. Food is horrible couldn't even finish what I ordered - chicken tikka mirza hasnoo was tasty but the rest , mutton kebab was dry as hell and had a horrible taste , mutton roganjosh was just sad! Its a 5 star hotel and we expect taj to have the best indian food possible Bill came up to 15,000 with drinks and naan and i have never regretted spending on food like i have with this meal please improve because the international buffet at your hotel is one of the best and we went into the Indian restaurant expecting the same standards! Disappointed is an understatement

Went for dinner. Had cheese naan, plain paratha ,Thantoori roti with Navaratna dhal. While our experience was pleasant and food was ok. I feel the quality of the breads should have been even better. Another complaint was that I had to go to the washroom to wash my hands. Which is outside the restaurant bit far. Given the fact Indian food is meant to be enjoyed by hand I wish there should have been a wash basin nearby. The restaurant is also small that makes it bit noisier . The overall experience was ok just pointing out shortcomings. Although it doesn't match with what we ate complimentary papadam was really good

Taste and the quality of food deteriorating, why? My family is not happy with Pulao and Mutton curry. Even Paneer Butter Masala also you served very deliciously those days. But now its not worth the price we paid. Utter waste only.

It’s a very nice place to have a lunch/ dinner. They have vegetarian and non vegetarian options. Charming environment to spend time. The navaratna dhal is very yummy. I love this place. Specially on festival days, it’s crowded like nothing. Sometimes we won’t be able to make it if there is no prior booking. Good staff service and friendly environment.

Totally disappointed. Not quality food at all. Gulfi was terrible. Actually that's not gulfi. Also , we ordered pepper chicken fry and paneer tikka, they served 4 large pieces of paneer and some chicken gravy. That's not paneer tikka or chicken fry. They are really cheating customers. This is a restaurant with indian shef and fully indian food. Interior also is having indian touch. Yummi and delicious foods available here.

Right now the restaurant is barely functioning (post COVID) . The place was a vibrant location for great Indian cuisine . The atmosphere used to be great too with live music . Now the place looked dreary and tired. It needs a full refurbishment and till then needs to have some piped music to boost the ambiance.

The quality of paneer was not up to standards and the rasamalai had too much food coloring rather than the color it's supposed to gain through the saffron flower. The chaat items were way too expensive for the quantity that was served. Chicken dishes were great and the mutton biriyani is a must try dish.

We ordered ice cream for 2 kids, they brought only 1 first and 10 minutes later the 2nd. Same with kids meal, which we ordered them to deliver 1st, whereas they delivered kids meal with adults food. Lot of improvement needed for waiters service.

The quantity of the curries served are very little. The service is very average. Takes a long time to bring the food. Starters are just Papadam... they can do way better than this .
