Kochikade ST Anthony’s church is one of the famous Christian’s church in Sri Lanka. It’s very famous. On 2019 there was a bomb blast has been happened here. After that the reputation is gone. But still people coming to this church. On feast day we can see huge amount of people and grand lighting that’s so beautiful.

This is my favorite church in Sri Lanka n it is dedicated to my favorite Saint, St. “Anthony Of Padua” ... It has a tiny piece of St. Anthony's tongue is preserved in a special shrine. Praying to St. Anthony when something is lost is a Catholic tradition. But I pray for everything in my life. Not only Roman Catholics go there. U can see many Buddhist people in the church. St. Anthony is listening to each n every one who comes to him. I started going there when I was schooling n still I’m going there. This is a place where miracles do happen every day. I can’t explain the bond I’m having with this place in words. Tuesday is the best day for special prayers. Some people use to go there on Fridays too. But for me continuously 13 Tuesdays are the best. Trust me ... St. Anthony’s will never send you back home with empty hands ...

The origin of the Church is accorded to Fr. Antonio. He was a companion to Joseph Vaz and had been assigned to minister to the religious needs of the Catholics in Colombo. He resided in a small house near Philip Neri's Church in Pettah and whilst working as a labourer during the day, in the nights he held service for the faithful. One day on hearing that the Dutch soldiers aware of his residence were coming to arrest him, Fr. Antonio fled towards Kotahena. Some fishermen recognized him. The erosion of the sea, which prevented them from drying their nets, and promised him protection, if he could intercede from his God forth sea to recede, frustrated them. The priest surrounded by the fishermen and the soldiers who had by then arrived, prayed and the sea receded. The Dutch soldiers reported the incident to the Governor who gave the priest the land. He built on it a small hut and since the priest was from Cochin, the land was referred to as the place in which the Cohin had a shop hence the name Kochchikade.

A silent place for prayer. Will get a holy feeling when we were in the church. We can clear the mind by resting in this silent place for even fifteen minutes. The pictures on the wall is amazing. Arrangements and settings in the church are very perfect. Have a visit to feel ease of mind.

Anyone can visit this sacred place, but should go with faith. After the Easter attack incident, security measures have been enhanced. The shrine is a place of worship for both Catholics and non-Catholics and features remarkable Renaissance architecture.

It was a very peaceful place, I went on a weekday and this place was almost full during the prayer hours around noon. Both catholic and non catholic can visit this church. Some security measures after the Easter attack in this shrine. They also prepare a food service after the prayer. Separate entry for male and female devotees at the entrance as well as the church offerings place.

I visited this place for the first time on December 31st, 2023 to attend their midnight mass. It was a unique experience as they conducted the prayers in both Sinhala and Tamil languages. At the mass, I participated in a majority Tamil-speaking community. It truly felt like a blessed place.

Was hit by terrorists once in 2019. But still stands strong as a mighty foundation to God. The building looks great both inside and outside. Especially the architecture looks attractive.

I’ve experienced many miracles at St. Anthony’s church-Kochchikade. The very first was in 2003, my mom had to undergo a cataract surgery and we did not have enough money to go through the operation. I’ve prayed at St. Antony’s church, every Tuesday, attending the novena. My wife was working in a reputed bank during this time, and after 3 novena’s, I’ve received a call from my wife, saying that my mother is eligible to claim the insurance for the eye surgery. With this miracle happening, we were blessed to operate her eyes with the best eye surgeon and in the state of the art hospital. The bill came to Rs. 110,000/-, and the entire bill was settled by the bank insurance. Many miracles followed through, and we are so grateful to St. Anthony do hearing our prayers. Infant Jesus is so fond of St. Anthony of Padua. God bless everyone!!!🙏

Glad to see the security measures still in place. As per the Covid situation it's kinda sad how people gather with no distance at all. People keep touching statues all over without a thought about the current situation. Maybe the authorities should do something about it by at least informing people about how dangerous their actions can be no matter how and how pure their intentions are.

The people who run the place spread their Christian agenda in the most intrusive and irritating way possible. For example, they install loud speakers and blast their irritating brain washing agenda to everyone day and night for days continuously. The result: some brainwashed people think Jesus can only hear them from the skies when they pray loud. I was cursed to know one such family who shout and cry to Jesus daily in the middle of the night waking the entire neighborhood with no respect to others. If such people want to be properly heard, they should just make a one way trip to meet Jesus with their entire family.

Holy Church, go and pray in faith. A very sacred place and you will always feel connected to God. Built in 1828, St. Anthony's Shrine is dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua and is a modern Roman Catholic church located in Kochikade, Colombo. The shrine has impressive Renaissance architecture and is a place of faith for Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

Often times I’ve wondered why people go to this church, it only dawned on me when I did go here. When you see the tomb of Jesus (I know it’s not the real one) but when you see the nails and the crown of thorns, you really start to wonder how much Jesus loved you and me even thou we live for our selfish gain. He died to set us free instead.

They purposely forget that other people live around. They blast very bad untuned noise with hundreds of megaphones around the area from morning till night even more than one km away. Even when people are suffering with hours of power cuts daily, they play noise through illegal electricity from the grid. It gets very irritating that we are forced to hear this noise even while we sit without electricity to power our lights, fan or even radio or TV to subdue the noise.

St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade is a well-known religious site located in Kochchikade, a neighborhood in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. It is a significant place of worship for the Christian community, particularly for Roman Catholics. The shrine is dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua, a Portuguese Catholic saint revered for his miracles and intercession. It holds great religious and historical importance, attracting both local devotees and tourists from around the world. The architecture of St. Anthony's Shrine is notable, featuring a blend of colonial and local influences. The exterior of the building showcases intricate detailing and a distinctive white façade. Inside, visitors can explore the peaceful and prayerful atmosphere, adorned with religious symbols and artwork. The shrine is particularly busy on Tuesdays when devotees flock to offer prayers and seek blessings from St. Anthony. The atmosphere during these times is lively and vibrant, with many stalls selling devotional items, candles, and flowers. St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade suffered a tragic event on April 21, 2019, when it was targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks along with several other locations in Colombo. The attacks caused significant damage to the shrine and resulted in the loss of many lives. However, efforts have been made to restore and rebuild the shrine as a symbol of resilience and hope. Despite the past events, St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade remains a place of reverence and devotion, where people come to find solace, offer prayers, and seek blessings. It holds a special place in the hearts of both the local Christian community and those who visit it for its religious and historical significance.

One of my favourite churches in Sri Lanka. This is a place that I visit twice or once a year. Doesn't matter if you are a Catholic or not. Make a wish and see, it will happen for sure. I have been to this place with heavy feelings and where I was struggling with some decisions. I believe this place helped me to think about many things in life and to make correct decisions so I believe that 100% of God's presence is there. This is entirely my experience. It can be different for others.
