This is one of the only places in the entire city that is known for providing shelter to a minimum of 50 different species of birds. This includes both migratory and local birds. Here you will be able to witness a large number of butterflies, water monitors, insects and other types of birds. But what is sure to get your attention is the mud strewn paths of the sanctuary which adds to the rustic but natural charm of the place. You should also keep in mind that while the biodiversity of this place by any place near it but this place is complete with tonnes of mosquitoes so make sure to cover yourself up while visiting this place.

Early morning is a magical time at Attidiya. As dawn breaks through the cool mists that surround the marshy waters, one can observe the rich bird life at Attidya as they move freely around looking for food and preening themselves for the day. Silhouetted against the orange dawn, we could see the dark outline of the Adam’s Peak range of mountains. The air was damp with the remnants of an early morning mist and the peaty, dark soil was soft and muddy as we began a nature trek through the sanctuary. The best traveled trail begins close to the information centre at Attidiya and continues through the marsh, alongside the Bolgoda canal on to the opposite boundary of the park on Attidiya road. Halfway down the trail there is a viewing tower built by the department for nature lovers to view the wild life of the park at close quarters.

Some spots are very scenic and make it an ideal dwelling for birds and other creatures. But would be lots better if the locals make an effort to preserve its pristine nature by not littering.. This Sanctuary extends to a wider area, beyond the recreational park to the back alleys of neighbouring lanes as visible when driving or taking a walk along these lanes. These are locations which should be treasured as they are the only green zones for urban folk to take a "forest shower" in times of stress or when the need to switch off becomes more of a necessity.

Calm and peaceful location to visit in your leisure time. They got a separate walking and jogging path and a separate path to ride bicycles. There are bicycle renting shops near the park. You can rent bicycles from them and ride. They got separate benches to do your warm ups and stretching. Eye resting sceneries around the park. The entry is for free. Very beautiful place to visit in colombo.

Very relaxing place located conveniently. Plenty of parking around the place. For birds watching best times are 6.30am and around 4.30pm. Walking track is 3.5km round trip. After passing Pillawa Temple is a good area to watch birds. Also entry via Vihara Mawatha takes you to a less crowded area. If you go left there is a walking track but not developed. This is a good area to watch birds.

The closest place to heaven you can find close to Colombo suburbs. An average food court cannot mar the beauty it holds within itself. The place is lively and filled with laughter. You can rent a bike for a 3.8km ride around the sanctuary just for 100,for all day! The washroom facilities are wonderfully and aesthetically arranged. Being very close to Bellanvila temple is always a plus point. All in all, want your beautiful sundown evening ? This is the perfect place for you

This is probably the only place in Colombo that provides shelter to at least 50 different species of birds (both local and migratory). A large number of water monitors, butterflies, insects and other birds tend to catch your attention as you walk through the muddy paths of the sanctuary. The biodiversity of this place is highly commendable, as you cannot help but feel awe-struck at the diverse species of birds here. As the place is replete with mosquitoes, you need to be fully covered while visiting the park.

This is probably the only place in Colombo that provides shelter to at least 50 different species of birds (both local and migratory). Highlights: A large number of water monitors, butterflies, insects and other birds tend to catch your attention as you walk through the muddy paths of the sanctuary. The biodiversity of this place is highly commendable, as you cannot help but feel awe-struck at the diverse species of birds here. As the place is replete with mosquitoes, you need to be fully covered while visiting the park. Location: The sanctuary is located at Boralesgamuwa in Colombo. Timings: The sanctuary is open all through the day; however early mornings and evenings are best to visit migratory birds. Best Season to Visit: You must visit this place during the months between December and January, as this is the peak season for migratory birds to seek protection here. Price: Entry to the place is free of cost.

Very important place to keep the balance of the nature. However, part of the sanctuary near the Bridge of Attidiya Road near Bellantara has been invaded by shops covering the scenic view. The board there had been displaced as well. Authorities should take quick action to remove those unauthorised constructions and preserve this place for future generation

There is no park there! The people cannot enter it unless you have an authorization! The name park given it has no meaning! If you are going there you can only go on the main road.

Nothing special to see. Just a helabojun with a limited choices. the fish therapy is no longer there. Fish are there in the reservoir. If you are really into botany, this is a place to visit, and if you are not interested, nothing much to see.

One of the most refreshing places to see in Colombo, the Attidiya Bird Sanctuary is home to over 50 avian species, along with variations of insects and butterflies species. The biodiversity of the place will leave you stunned as you take short walks around, appreciating the beauty of Mother Nature. While you can explore the bountiful corners of the sanctuary throughout the day, mornings and evenings here remain unbeatable. If you’re truly willing to watch these birds in full glory, we recommend taking a trip to Colombo during January, when the migratory birds fly in. The sanctuary is recommended for everyone who wishes to spend some time in the bounds of nature.

Beautiful scenery. Lovely place for a walk, jog or cycle ride. Most common area to do everything is in the Lake Road. Sometimes I have seen crocodiles as well. But a nice place to just enjoy and come in the evening time. With the change of the Government, they have started cleaning the Lakes therefore, now it's looks nice and clean. ***PLEASE DO NOT LIT THE AREA***
