The beach is very much polluted and in addition to plastic bottles and shopping bags there are masks too. Such a tragedy that the beautiful beach is all polluted. The sea can get really rough at some places with deep slopes in the beach so if going with kids need to be extra cautious about their safety. On the roadside there are small street food shops where they sell food items like shawarma, pani poori, kulfi ice cream etc. And when crossing towards the sea side from the road side, need to be careful about the frequent trains that pass the railway in the middle.

Crowded on weekends. But on weekdays evenings you can have a peaceful walk and a bath. Sunsets are remarkable.

From Colombo city center beautiful beach nearby However, there is a lot of garbage in the sea. It's a terrible situation. Plastic on your feet when you go into the ocean Garbage clings... I feel a little sick. If it's just a walk on the sandy beach No problem though. Also, if you leave things on the beach, the locals will My sunglasses and personal belongings were stolen by Please be careful as this may cause

Enjoy a scenic sunrise/sunset, a leisurely walk, or cool down after a jog on the marine drive.. (The sand mound at the bridge end has the best view πŸ˜‰) It's not too crowded most of the time, and they're beach restaurants that open in the evening. There's even a CrossFit gym and beach volleyball court along the way... You can have a dip, but stick to the beach and don't go far, it's deep and the waves are strong. (Watch it for the lifeguard flags) ...The walkable beach is at least 2km, from the bridge along the marine drive, past the Dehiwela Station and towards Mt Lavinia. Edit: The recent rains have washed up quite a bit of debree and plastic bottles.. Also, the beach seems to be eroding quite fast, it was at least 4-5 meters away 2 months ago. Not sure if it's normal for the rains

One of the best beaches just outside of Colombo city. Easy access from Marine Drive. Wide sandy beach in most of the places, and beach restaurants all the way to Mount Lavinia. Typically crowded, specially over the weekends, and most of the days you can find sea wastes. It looks restaurants does not care about it

Dehiwala beach is not as crowded as the beaches in Mount Lavinia for Wellawatta. However it is sad to see that people have littered the beach all over. :-( The sea is a bit rough here, therefore if kids are brought, parents must be vigilant. There is a string of restaurants along the beach. You have to cross the railway line to get in to the beach which has to be done very carefully because it is a busy railway line.

Dehiwala Beach, located in the coastal town of Dehiwala in Sri Lanka, is a picturesque stretch of shoreline that offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural charm. With its golden sands and serene waters, the beach attracts both locals and tourists seeking a tranquil escape. The beach is known for its laid-back atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls and relaxation. The palm-fringed shoreline provides shade for those looking to escape the sun while enjoying the soothing sound of the waves. The clear blue waters invite visitors to take a refreshing dip or engage in water activities like swimming and snorkeling. Dehiwala Beach is not just a place for sun and surf; it also holds cultural significance. Adjacent to the beach, you'll find the iconic Dehiwala Zoological Garden, one of the oldest and most well-maintained zoos in Asia. This adds a unique touch to the beach experience, as visitors can hear the distant calls of exotic animals while enjoying the coastal ambiance. As the sun begins to set, Dehiwala Beach transforms into a magical scene. The sky is painted with hues of orange and pink, creating a breathtaking backdrop for evening strolls along the water's edge. The beachside vendors offer a variety of local snacks and refreshments, allowing visitors to savor the flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine while taking in the mesmerizing sunset. In addition to its natural and cultural attractions, Dehiwala Beach is easily accessible from Colombo, making it a convenient destination for both locals and travelers. Whether you seek a peaceful retreat, a family outing, or a romantic evening by the sea, Dehiwala Beach provides a charming setting that captures the essence of Sri Lanka's coastal beauty.

It is a significant tourist attraction due to its close proximity to the capital city of Colombo and its scenic beauty. Here are some key points to consider

Really beautiful beach. Waited till sunset to get a time lapse. However it was a bit polluted on the shore and also the fisherman there warned us that some thieves roam around after sunset, can't verify that fact tho. But 10/10 would recommend to visit

"The area is a mostly residential suburb, known as Colombo's beach retreat it is famed for its "Golden Mile" of beaches[1][2] and has long been a hot spot for tourism and nightlife. It is one of the most liberal regions in Sri Lanka and plays host to the island's annual Gay Pride and Rainbow Kite Festival since 2005.[3][4]"(Wikipedia)

Dehiwala Beach is comparably clean but of course still has a lot of garbage. A lot of fishermen live here and have their boats at the beach. Not too crowded with tourists. Some fishermen keep annoying you and want to sell even more plastic.

Awesome place to go enjoy and relax with kids and family. Fabulous golden sandy beach blue ocean. Spectacular coastal areas so close to busy Colombo city. Good range of restaurants around were one could enjoy range of dishes specially sea food. But watch out for prices and spiciness. Could watch a spectacular sunsets. Be very careful if you plan on swimming or serfing, as the depth increase suddenly, sea can be rough during certain months especially during south western monsoon season. But great many people including foriengs come to enjoy the spectacular beauty of this place. Could see Colombo portcity from here and could watch shipping. Please don't litter this wonderful place.

This is a sunset view of the west coast of Sri Lanka Dehiwala beach. Some years ago the beach was a great place to spend your time but now the beach is polluted with garbages. The enjoyment is no longer felt when you are middle of washedoff platics and glass bottles. We have done enough damage to mother earth... This place is a good example.

Place is very beautiful you can reach easily to this beach from colombo galle road . Im not recommend to swimming in this area if you cant swim, because there is no life guards and rough sea waves, there is no trees along the beach and difficult to walking in the beach in noon time.

Nice temple architecturally and the Sami's are nice too. However the trusses of the temple keep cattle in squalid conditions and never moved about. While satisfying cultural norms you also have to be empathetic to other living creatures.
