The park has a really calming environment. The old trees and the ornamental flowers add a fantastic beauty to the environment. Some huts have been built with benches so that people can take rest. Some university students visit the park to study. Since the environment is very peaceful it attracts so many people. The park is a very good place to have some family time and especially some me time. It's an ample place to have a walk and enjoy the nature. Pony rides are also available here. The workers try their level best to keep the park clean but sometimes the visitors ruin it by throwing garbage everywhere even though the park has separated garbage bins.

This tranquil place is a favorite spot for solo relaxation and quality time with extended families. It offers a serene natural environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city, complemented by the proximity of the Colombo National Museum. You can also find local artists selling hand-drawn drawings just outside the park, making it a great place for art enthusiasts. The park spans around 50 acres, known for its lush greenery, meticulously landscaped gardens, and a peaceful ambiance. You can explore its winding pathways, relax by the lake, and admire the variety of trees and blooming plants. Within the park, you'll discover captivating attractions, including a majestic Buddha statue, a play area for children, and an open-air theater for hosting events. It's a popular spot for picnics, leisurely strolls, and reconnecting with nature. Best of all, it's open to the public until 11 PM, and there's no entrance fee, making it accessible to both locals and tourists.

It's a great park to walk, to run and cycle in the heart of Colombo. There is also a play area for kids, and lots of fun activities. It can get crowded on weekends and public holidays, but quite peaceful in the mornings. It's also safe. There's plenty of public parking around it.

Heart of Colombo city. Must protect the place for years. A collection of plants, trees, fun creating places and many more. Managed very nicely. A clean place. Visit with your family. A cycling track is also there. Can hire a bike. The buddha's statue adds more value to the place. The toilets are clean and managed well.

One of my new favourite spots in Colombo to visit during the Weekends as this is the closest I can get to the Hill Country vibes. Wide open space for kids to play around with a separate trail for bikers and joggers. Very clean and calm environment filled with greeny views. Perfect place to switch off from technology & reconnect with friends and family. Seating places are available throughout the whole park. No entry fee required. Parking space available for vehicles.

A very calm place. Beautiful nature around a very big area. There is an aquarium inside it. But there will be charges for the entrance of it. It's a good place to have a walk but not much seating out there. I'm not suggesting you the food there. Since they are a bit old and not very clean there. Also so many crows so careful if you try to eat in the park. In the you can have boat rides too. Overall a good experience except for the food. Beautiful place to visit.

Like a breath of fresh air in the city, this park is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. There's so much space to sit, walk, run, lie down and just unwind with yourself, friends, kids or family. Open 24x7. If you're a tourist in the city and have just 1-2 days on hand, skip it. If you have more days to spare, it may be a good place to relax and regain your energy in between sightseeing or to slow down after a meal. There are three false entrances to the park - false because now they've taken off almost all the fence around the area, so you can walk in from wherever. The down-side of all this urban planning is that the local artists' paintings we loved to pass by, leaning on the park's steel fence, are no more. One walk-in is right opposite Park Street, the other from next to the Public Library, and the third by the large Buddha statue opposite Town Hall. Walking in through the Town Hall end, you'll find the long square pools of water in the center, the aquarium on the far left end, the lake, suspension bridge, candy floss and pony rides on the far right, and the World War memorial at the south end.Viharamahadevi park has come a long, long way since the 90's. A lot of the old trees are towering and wild but the park is meticulously maintained, with beautiful paved pathways, some flanked by palm trees and lush, even grass.

Named after Queen Viharamahadevi, this park is the largest and probably the only public park & one of the best places to visit in Colombo. It is one of those places that never cease to excite you irrespective of the number of times you come here. Highlights: There are lots of places to visit here like the aquarium, mini zoo, children’s play zone, war memorial, lake and the dangerous-yet-adventurous suspension bridge above it. When you and your kids are tired of running round the park, you can just relax on the cool resting places on the park, eating local delicacies like candy floss, corn and ice-creams from the sellers here. A canopy of green trees lends a beautiful ambience to this place. Location: The Park is located right next to the famous National Museum in the heart of Colombo. Timings: This Park is open all through the year. Price: Entry into the park is free of cost.

It's little heaven in between the hustle and bustle of the city. But facilities wise there's many improvements that can happen. With all the high end restaurants and cafes being around the place at least some food trucks would've made the place awesome.

Most peaceful place in the heart of Colombo. Anyone can just walk in FOC. It's a lovers paradise during daytime and a kids play area from 3.00-6.00 pm. Then it gradiallt gets invaded by the health conscious adults till 10.00 pm. These days, they do have a COVID 19 vaccination center here as well.

The Viharamahadevi Park located in Colombo, next to the National Museum in Sri Lanka. It is formely known as Victoria park and is a public park and the oldest and largest park of the Port of Colombo. The park is named after Queen Viharamahadevi, the mother of King Dutugamunu. It was built on land donated to the Colombo city by Charles Henry de Soysa during the British rule of Sri Lanka, and used to be named "Victoria Park" after Queen Victoria. During World War II it was occupied by the British Army with Australian 17th Brigade based at Victoria Park. After the war the park was restored and open to the public in 1951. There are beautiful locations in the park, including Buddha's statue , flowers, beautiful trees, walking roads , and boat ridings. It is a mind relaxing place. The children also come to play in this park. This place is a better for the picnics.

Situated in the heart of the city, this is one of the best open spaces in Colombo Sri Lanka. The park is kept clean and is never over crowded considering it's size. Presently a small portion of it is also being used as a Covid vaccine centre. With lots of fresh air, trees and grass lawns If you need a breath of fresh air. This is the place to go.

Crowded on weekends. There'd be kids running everywhere and sometimes they do get lost due to the vastness of the park, so keep an eye on them if you're going with kids. WiFi was available but not anymore. Food prices are absurd, so I'd recommend taking some food with you if you're to hoping have any. Well maintained, but still the chairs are broken and needs replacement. And please be responsible and throw away the litter in the appropriate bins, if not it'd only make things worse. Bicycle track available. Parking available. PS: if you're hoping to get the COVID-19 vaccine, go to the 'Town Hall' main entrance and cross the road from there, or else you'd have to walk a KM to get to the vaccination center from the main entrance of the park.

It is public park which is nicely maintained due to close proximity to the town hall and Sri Lankan White House. It is a big park to be fair and you can relax here for sometime. There are many small food stalls in the park if you want a quick bite to eat.

Good place to relax in colombo. You can park side of the main road and can enter to the park. No need to buy a ticket. There is a police point at the middle of the park. There are many benches to sit. There is a children park inside this park. Small shops there where you csn buy water bottles and food. You cannot bring your pet animals to this park. -08/11/2022-

The place is beautiful with a great variety of trees. Relaxing and calming envioronment. You can visit the place on weekdays and it is less crowded. But if you are looking for fun activities and snacks go on a weekend.

If you want to enjoy some quality peaceful time in the middle of Colombo, best place is Viharamahadevi Park. Clean and safe place to bring your kids. Some local food kiosks available.

Colombo's central park. Lush greenery in the middle of the city. Entrance is free f charge. A great place to hang out with your loved ones or alone to clam down yourself. There are joy boat rides if you are interested in those stuffs at the small pond inside. There's a small cafe inside and public rest rooms for the convenience. Gets crowded at evenings and weekends.

  • 5/5 Georges Y. 1 year ago on Google
Viharamahadevi Park is the largest and oldest public park in the center of Colombo. During my stay in the city, I visited several times. The busiest - and probably the best time to visit for a tourist - is the weekend. Residents of Colombo descend on the park en masse, especially if the weather isn't too hot. If you're into people watching and discovering how locals live and enjoy their free time, this is the place to be. Many young couples also visit. You often seen them trying to get as much privacy and intimacy as possible. There are a couple of artificial lakes where you can rent a boat. Horses - and even elephants - could occasionally be observed in the wooded areas. The park is very safe and is regularly monitored. Do not miss it!

A wide park with a diverse range of plants and trees. There are even chipmunks, squirrels, ducks running around, and you can watch bats. We were approached by a man who pretended to be a former park gardener, I don't know if this is true, but we enjoyed everything he showed us - cinnamon trees, Buddha flower, bats, palm trees and everything. Asked for 10 dollars after that but it was worth it. There is also a children's playground on the territory of the park, it is noticeably worn, but interesting for children. It's unusual to have to take off your shoes in a playground like this.

The best service is provided in Kithulgala, which is the top water rafting, camping canyon and waterfallabseiling in Sri Lanka. Safe service. The best place to experience without fear with an experienced guide. The best place to recommend.
