Very Good and calm place. Parking available. Friendly staff. Very beutiful park. Very best place to escape from busy life and spend some quality time with nature. Very best if you can go in before 6.30 am A man made wetland park and a calm and quiet place in the midst of a very busy urban area. You have to purchase a ticket from the entrance. Very clean washrooms. Very beutiful photo location. Park opens at 6.00AM ONLY for wildlife photographers and wedding photographers , for general public it opens at 8.00AM. Nice place to relax and be with nature, only in morning hours or evening hours. But after 10-11 AM it's going to be a little crowded so plan your visit accordingly.

The Diyasaru Wetland Park which was formerly the Thalawathugoda Biodiversity Study Park is an artificially built wetland. Covering approximately 60 acres with artificial ponds and canals, naturalists claim that if you are lucky you could see over 50 varieties of migratory birds, over 15 fish varieties including three endemic to Sri Lanka and over 25 butterfly species. It is also home to the endangered Fishing Cat. We visited on a Sunday morning after a phone inquiry. Entrance tickets are just 100 rupees each and a 30-45 minute boat ride is 500 rupees for 4 persons (with life jackets). Please make sure to buy your boat ticket at the entrance when buying your entrance ticket. The variety of bird sightings would of course depend on the season, climate and migratory patterns. Although if you look closely you will see many different species which may look quite common at first glance It was 5 of us - a couple of friends and my 7 year old daughter and husband. We had a truly invigorating morning, enjoyed a picnic there and spent more than 3 hours enjoying nature without realizing the time passing by. The only thing we could have done better is to have been at the park by 6.00 am (we went at 6.30). Highly recommended for nature lovers and of course photographers... but do note that there is a lot of walking required but many places to rest along the way. To end I want to say bravo to the SLRDC for this initiative (among many others of course) it gives a short but wonderful getaway!!!

One of the most calming parks I have seen. I went here for a birthday photoshoot and they charged us Rs. 5000. You have to pay through card payment only. If you calmly wait here you would be able to observe several creatures and few birds. It is a beautiful photo location as well. There is a bote ride too if you are interested and also a small suvenior shop. If you are in Sri Lanka for a long vacation and want to see what sort of natural environment it has, this place is good for that.

My wife, 3-year-old, and 4-month-old daughters visited there on a Saturday morning. The place is exceptionally beautiful. We noticed numerous couples 👫 and very few families. Unlike abroad, where parks attract people of all ages 👨‍🦯🏃🏻👩‍👩‍👦‍👦🧎‍♂️, here it seems that societal attitudes restrict couples from being in other public spaces, leading to a dearth of family presence. It's crucial for us as a society to ponder this issue seriously if we aspire to foster a more balanced community. Otherwise, things might tilt to extremes and become challenging to reverse.

Diyasaru Park is a 60-acre preserve of lush greenery with footpaths & boardwalks past a variety of vegetation & wildlife. It is situated on the Japan Sri Lanka Friendship Road in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte. It is an artificially built wetland park formerly known as Thalawathugoda Biodiversity Study Park. The park is home to a wide range of trees, plants, birds, butterflies, reptiles, dragonflies etc. Activities such as bird watching & photography and boat riding are also available here. Diyasaru Park is home to the endangered Fishing Cat. It is a great place to learn about various animals and plants especially for children. There is a bird watching tower at the far end of the park which gives a great view of the wetland.

Escape the city bustle and dive into a peaceful oasis at Diyasaru Park, Sri Lanka. This naturalistic haven stole my heart with its lush greenery, serene atmosphere, and hidden nooks perfect for quiet reflection or romantic escapades. What enchanted me: Nature's Embrace: Imagine strolling through a verdant maze of trees, serenaded by birdsong and enveloped by the sweet scent of blooming flowers. Diyasaru Park is a nature lover's paradise, with cascading waterfalls, hidden bridges, and tranquil ponds teeming with life. Romantic Rendezvous: Whether you're a couple seeking a secluded getaway or a solo traveler yearning for some self-love, Diyasaru Park delivers. Cozy pavilions nestled amidst the greenery offer breathtaking views and intimate moments. I can picture stolen kisses under the dappled sunlight and whispered secrets by the babbling brook. Serene Escape: The hustle and bustle of the city melt away as you step into this tranquil haven. Gentle breezes rustle the leaves, and the calming gurgling of the waterfalls invites you to slow down and simply be. I found myself lost in the moment, feeling my worries dissolve like mist in the morning sun. Things to Keep in Mind: Footwear: Comfortable shoes are recommended, as navigating the park involves uneven terrain and winding paths. Picnic Perfect: Bring a picnic basket and enjoy a delightful meal surrounded by nature's beauty. Several charming spots are ideal for a romantic spread or a solo retreat. Respectful Retreat: Remember, this is a place of peace and nature's sanctuary. Treat it with respect by maintaining silence and keeping the park clean. Diyasaru Park is more than just a park; it's an experience. It's a place to reconnect with nature, rekindle romance, or simply find solace in the tranquil embrace of greenery. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a refreshing escape from the ordinary. Pro Tip: Pack your camera! Diyasaru Park is a photographer's dream, with endless opportunities to capture the beauty of nature and create lasting memories.

Originally in 1980s, the area was a paddy field. Part of the land was used to build the parliament lake in late 1970s. The other part was used to deposit dredge material. Gradually, the land become heavily covered with invasive species and transformed to a wetland. During the flood occur in 2010, government initiated to reconstruct and modify the area as a wetland. The land was divided into several small islands and artificial canals were made. Currently, park premises serve as a flood detention area by absorbing flood water during heavy storms and reduce inundation of the parliament area. The program to establish the park was initiated by Land Reclamation and Development Cooperation. The name "Diyasaru" is for 'rich in water' in Sinhala. The vision of the park is “Releasing the Stress of Urbanization”. The park is an artificially built wetland near new Parliament Complex in Sri Jayawardanapura. It lies hidden behind the Parliament on the Japan Sri Lanka friendship road. It is opposite to Diyawanna Oya where Beddagana Wetland Park is situated. Diyasaru park is home for more than 250 species of animals across all ranges including molluscs, arthropods and vertebrates. Many rare and migrant birds, butterflies, dragonflies, mammals, many types of fishes including endemics, amphibians, and reptiles are abundant. Numerically, there are about more than 80 species of wetland birds including 50 species of migratory birds, 15 species of fish including three endemics, 40 species of butterflies, 28 species of dragonflies, 28 species of reptiles, 7 species of mammals. A part of the park is reserved for five endangered fishing cats. Otters, purple faced leaf monkeys and estuarine crocodiles are also found in park sections6

Had a great time. Nice, calm and well maintained place in Colombo. This wetland sanctuary is home to different species in the area. The entrance ticket for an adult is 100 LKR. You can observe different varieties of birds, lizards, butterflies, and many more species freely roam. Would be a great place for photo locations as well.

Nice place to spend the time with nature. Entrance fee is Rs.100 per head don't know about kids rates. It's best for green nature lovers. Didn't had chance to any bird or mentioned animals in there. It's a large land I think about 36 acre.

Serene environment built in the middle of busy suburbs. It is lovely for a relaxing walk with many lakes and marshy areas. The boardwalks are well built but show a little bit of ware down in a few places. Preventative maintenance by the management is required. An eco-friendly snack bar with light refreshments is a missing item.

A lovely park to visit with your family and children. Sorrounded by water and trees this place is really worth a visit. Leaving the hustle and bustle of the city to nothing but lush green trees and hopefully a clear sky like we had. If you are lucky you would spot a fishing cat otherwise there is still a lot of wild life for birds to snakes that you can spot. The place has different options available for renting it out for parties and photoshoots. Visit, relax & enjoy!

Diyasaru Uyana - Thalawathugoda👣🌿💙💚 A green place to study the environment to spend free time in the complex of Colombo. Birds, butterflies, reptiles (crocodiles...etc) and fish can also be seen... Many types of butterflies can be observed and details about them have also been mentioned. Also you can see many reptiles. Among them snakes, crocodiles, graves..etc. If you look carefully, you can see leopards. Being a wetland, it shows the characteristics of a swamp.

The park is open from 6am to 5pm. There's an entrance charge of Rs. 100 for locals. The park is absolutely beautiful. There are so many trees, plants, flowers, and wildlife to see. You will surely get to see a lot of birds and monitor lizards. There is a bird watching tower and a lot of seating areas where you can just sit and enjoy nature. I'd recommend coming here early in the morning if you want to avoid the sun. There's a lot of ground to cover, and you'd at least need 1 hour if you really enjoy walks in nature. There's ample parking.

Very good place for bird watching, relaxing and nature photography. Better go morning early times as you can spot many birds and butterflies. They allow photography, but not for preshoots or commercial purposes (you've to get permission). The photography rates (as of 2024) is also attached with the review. Very well maintained, you can go for a boat riding. Don't pollute enjoy the nature

Diyasaru park is not totally a natural park, well constructed and well maintained. You can see various kinds of birds, butterflies and other small insects. Perfect for photography and studies for those who are interested. With an extra charge you can go for wedding shooting and related. Highly recommended for a picnic with kids and family, in the morning. Cold breeze across the park makes everything perfect. You have to pay a minimal amount for tickets and free for kids less than 12 easy access from the main road and ample parking.

A beautiful wooded wetland area in the middle of a city filled with concrete structures. various spacies of fishes and other animals are in this park. There is a beautiful three story structure for the bird watchers. Also, there are some little huts like structures throughout the wetland area to stay and relax. Beautiful and small pathways and bridges goes around and throughout the whole area. You have to buy a ticket in the entrance. Park has a good space for parking. Smaller than Beddagana Wetland Park. But has more open space which allows to spot birds easily. If you visiting for birds watching then go early as 6.00am to increase your chances. Entrance fee us 100 rupees per adult. Sometimes ticketing counter doesn't open at 6.00am. Management should know how early time is crucial for bird watching and make sure gate opens on time. Birdwatching platform is taller enough to see surrounding area. But more birds can spot on other areas than watching platform.

This is a little known park. Its a great place for bird watching and nature lovers. I spent couple of hours walking and exploring around the park with my kids. Very peaceful place. We saw many kinds of birds, some wild monkeys and couple of thalagoyas (land monitor). There are many ponds, trees and water plants. Some plants and trees have name boards, so good for kids education. Kids loved the bird tower and thacthed tree houses like huts in the park. Theres also a small weather data gathering station which kids found interesting. Entrance ticket for local adults is rs100/= and rs.50/= for kids.

Stumbling upon the Park nestled in the heart of Colombo was indeed a delightful surprise! It stands as a testament to the city's dedication to green spaces and biodiversity. This park serves as a tranquil escape from the urban hustle, creating an ideal haven for relaxation with friends and family. The vibrant green surroundings, paired with the diverse wildlife, establish an atmosphere of serenity that feels surreal amidst the bustling city. Securing entry to this urban oasis is a breeze – a simple ticket purchase at the counter opens the door to an extraordinary experience. The nominal fee proves to be a small investment for the incredible natural retreat that awaits inside. Witnessing a space that not only offers recreational opportunities but also nurtures an appreciation for nature is truly heartening.

An urban wetland park which got opened recently. An admirable concept to build such a park without impacting the natural habitat. You can observe many birds, butterflies and insects here. A good learning experience for kids. Great place to spend an evening. A study area is available inside and many students are visiting as it seems. At the far end a bird watching tower also built and it gives nice views of the wetland. Some information boards are put in place so that you can really learn something new. A large parking area is available. Entrance ticket is 100 rupees.

Great effort to create a park that locks in the wildlife of wetlands, The summer hut style view point offers a scenic view of the spread of Diyawanna's splendour to the area

An oasis in the city, this is a beautiful wetland park that is definitely worth a few hours of your time. Absolutely stunning nature.... dragonflies, butterflies and damselflies of all colours live here - I could spend another week and still not photograph them all. A truly magical place that you should definitely visit when it reopens.

This is an urban wetland reserve situated on the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Road, Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte which runs alongside the Diyawanna Oya river adjacent to the parliament building. Located covering 60 acres this wetland park was opened to the public in 2017 after developing it as a popular recreational destination. Home to several species of birds, butterflies, fish, wild cat and many more as well as Flora and fauna endemic in wetlands this beautiful and scenic location is a nature photographer paradise.

A best location for bird watching in such an urban area. This place is very calm and peaceful. Ideal for a lovely evening walk. Guided pathways are there throughout the park. The view from bird watching deck is superb. Few benches are there to sit and enjoy the lake view. This place is well maintained. Restroom facilities and parking available. There were no food stalls opened when we visited. Better to bring food and water by your own.

Wonderful setting to relax. But must be borne in mind it’s a declared wetland reserve . Thus Nature, birds and plants should not be disturbed. Ideal place for family birding and young to teach the beauty of nature and value of conservation.

A nice park located near the parliament. It is closed around 5 p.m. beautiful scenery. A watch tower is there to observe birds. Parking available and the ticket price is 100 rs for adults

A beautiful park for birding that I recently visited. To be honest, I somewhat prefer Beddagana wetland park than this, as I assume that is also bigger and has more to offer but this is also a beautiful place for birding with a price of a ticket being only Rs. 100 for locals and we saw quite a lot of budding Photographers on a field trip kinda thing.

Place is beautiful, have lot of benches around the property. There is running water. Study areas and beautiful scenes. When we were there the place was under construction and some of the places were closed. The bird watching tower was occupied by couples and we couldn't get there. 🥲 On rainy days place is muddy.
