The promenade was initially laid out in 1859 by Governor Sir Henry George Ward, although the original Galle Face Green extended over a much larger area than is seen today. The Galle Face Green was initially used for horse racing and as a golf course, but was also used for cricket, polo, football, tennis, and rugby.

As per the view it is nice place. itis a magnificent place to witness a marvelous sun set over western coast of Sri lanka. Gallface is located between Indian ocean and galleroad foot bath along the beach it long half kilometer. Great place to watch beautiful sunset.

This is a wonderful place that you can find in such abusy City like Colombo.It drags my heart and thoghts to far a distance with the fascinating scenes of sea and the horizon.The most eyecatching and freezing moment is coming here in the early morning.The high standing buildings that lined up the galle face beach are like pillars of forbidden gate. This place will bring you to a marvelous experience. Dont get late to visit this.

Beautiful view of Indian ocean. Most famous beach park in Colombo. Normally very crowded in weekends & public holidays specially in evening. It's very amazing sunset in evening. Parking a vehicle is very difficult in those days & you have to pay for parking. Street foods are not very hygienic in here. Nice place to play with your childrens & relaxing.

Crowded but wait until the sun sets and you'll be able to experience such a serene view. (Check the last photo) Recommend sitting in the wall and trying ice cream or isso wade (very poor in hygiene tho) Great place to get lost in thoughts 10/10

Great place to hangout and enjoy the sea. Although it's very hot in the day time. There are many shacks where you can get fast food and fish fry near the beach. It's easy to come out of the beach and directly take a tuk tuk to go anywhere in the city

Not a natural beach but protective arrangements and viewing gallery makes it attractive. Seating arrangements and neatly maintained area makes it worth visiting.

This is the observation deck beside the coast. There is the walking street and it's very nice to take a walk. And there are some shops on the street and they serve shrimp and crab fries. You should try them when you come to Sri Lanka.

It's open to public now. And it's a good deck for selfie and can spend some quality time . There is a artificial island being contructed that can be viewed from here

Nice place for the children to walk around and play. Open until about 7pm. Have a small jogging track of about 300 meter. Basketball court and a small ground with grass. no seperate parking, one have to park along the road to the park. Road get busy in Sunday mornings due to Sunday Fair.

Not bad for what it is. Not really a "children's park". More of an open area (pretty well taken care off grass wise) and flat area for kids to run and play. Also has a basketball court. Has some kids stuff like swings and merry go rounds-but looks pretty old and rusty. Ok to come and walk around and get some fresh air

Good only for walks or a jog since they have a jogging path. Have a basketball court too but the children's play area is not maintained at all. Pathetic as its maintained by DMMC.
