Wow great place for vacation. Very clean and we can watch lot of things. Lovely museum and wonderful to see so many historical aircraft on display. Staff friendly throughout. Rs200/= only free entry , no queues to get into the various hangers etc. Great history behind each aircraft. Very educational for children as well. Plenty of car park spaces. shop a little see on the expensive side.

SLAF meusium at rathmalana air force camp Ceylon had Royal Air force 102 squadren stationed in Sri Lanka and after the indipendense on 2nd march 1951 Royal Ceylon Air Force was established. First squadren of jet aircrafts DH vampires came from Britain in 1960 which were replaced soon with a squad of 5 jet provest Air crafts. The first helicopter to arrive was the dragonfly Though you may find many aircrafts in display mounted near almost all airforce camps around the island a fine collection of old air crafts and other exibits are set on display at rathmalana. Photo credit of this album goes to one fine srilankan pilot Sandesh Mendis with whom I visited this wonderful place

As an aviation and airwarfare enthusiat I recommend the SLAF Museum as a true hub of knowledge. They have preserved aircraft and maintain them in pristine condition, plus the air movements from SLAF Rathmalana makes the visit even more interesting. The SLAF personal are very helpful and would explain anything. And with the access to number of books and manuals in the library you could always learn something more new about aviation and the history of SLAF and military aviation.

Really good for aviation enthusiasts, and good to learn some history as well. Now it's open for public after covid period. It's better if they have some people to assist with information through out the museum.

It.s a recommended place to visit kids students that they could gather lots of knowledge in its field. We were lucky to get a SLAF officer for guidance with prior arrangements. But it,s better if SLAF could arrange the same for the general public to get better knowledge. However it,s a valuable please to spend good half-day.

Sri Lanka Air Force Museum was established in 1993. It is situated at the Ratmalana International Airport, and maintained by the Sri Lanka Air Force. It houses historic aircraft, vehicles, uniforms and weapons. Notably, it has remnants of Japanese and LTTE aircrafts. This is only museum in Sri Lanka, that related to aviation. After refurbishment in 2009, it was renewed and get attraction.

Place is very important...There are many important exhibits there...But no guides there to explain the same... Specially ,little children just running hear and there no one to explain them about. There are many ponds which kept unattended...It is important to keep eye on your little children..It's better to have some safety assessment done in this place...There was a helicopter experience..It just done without any excitement..I think the demonstrators could have better...There was an old video played about war time,,,but that sinhala was from some old school books no one could understand what that language was... Washrooms are really dirty.. But this place is responsible...This can be improved a lot.

A decent place to go for a family outing. Plenty of things to look at including the airstrip where planes are landing and taking off. There is a play area for kids and plenty of space for them to run around. Also spaces to have a picnic. Unfortunately, no food is sold. There is a structure built for a cafe, bar etc which is not functioning at the moment. There is a good juice bar and a shop that sells Nescafé, soft drinks and ice cream. It's a shame that the Air force is not utilising this location to it's full potential. It will be a great money spinner should the right people with the right vision take over operations. But for the moment it's main attraction is it's lack of crowds which will give visitors room to enjoy the current attractions. Ticket Prices as of 25th February 2024 Adults Rs 200 Children between 6-18 Rs 50 Children below 6 years free Website: https://www.airforcemuseum.lk

Truly gem of a place and a must for aviation enthusiasts and especially kids. Well maintained by the air force and all the personnel working there are super friendly and helpful. They even have a small theater and a simulated flight ride. It also has a really lovely restaurant with a beautiful view overlooking the marsh land (the restaurant though was closed when we were there). You will also come across a lovely labyrinth towards the end of your tour!

Ticket price for foreigners is 15 USD per person which for Sri Lanka standards is extremely pricey for a museum. I really felt like being taken advantage of and decided not to go inside. I also didn’t want to sponsor the corrupt government during these times of justified civil unrest. #gotagohome I’m sure Sri Lankans pay a much more reasonable price just like at Sigiriya and other tourist attractions managed by the government. The museum itself seemed pretty small and I was told that there were 18 aircrafts in total. 6 of them were standing in sight outside and though these seemed pretty cool, I felt like the ticket price was highly inflated for the experience. On the way back I had to walk for 20 minutes in the blazing heat back to Galle road as there are no tuk-tuks in the area. If you are Sri Lankan and have your own transportation, it might be a fun experience with your kids. I wouldn’t recommend this experience to any tourist though.

Sri Lanka air force museum is one of the best places I have visited, located in air force base Rathmalana. The museum belongs to the Sri Lanka air force. The air force well manages the environment of the museum.

In the outskirts of Colombo, just passing Mount Lavinia is the Ratmalana town – which is where the local Ratmalana Airport is located. Adjoining that is the Sri Lanka Airforce Museum that displays a collection of antique airplanes and helicopters in a park-like area that has clear walking paths and a black and white checked patio. Some of the nicest airplanes can be seen in the hangars. This is a nice getaway when you are with kids on a family tour in Sri Lanka, and also for those airplane fanatics.

Thoroughly dissappointed with the way they treat Persons with disabilities, today took my daughter who is on a wheelchair to the museum who went with the School. Eventhough when asked from the relevant authorities, whether prior authorisation is needed to obtain permission for the vehicle to drive in, it has been informed by them that it is not necessary. Hence when I arrived at the place they didn't allow me in and said for me to park the car outside and wheel my daughter All the way to the museum. and kept me at the gate for 30 minutes.

This is a hidden gem. Nicely maintained old planes. Sri Lanka Air Force Museum is Sri Lanka’s only national museum dedicated to the field of aviation as well as the history of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). Situated off Galle Road, Ratmalana, 13Km away from Colombo this is truly an Aviation Museum where the legendary of the past lives on. Being a custodian of the invaluable historical artefacts, it was modernized and new exhibits and facilities have been added to the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum to make it a very modern museum with up to date facilities. A visit to this establishment will definitely be a unique experience for aviation enthusiasts of all ages. The museum offers a unique insight not only into the history of the SLAF but also a comprehensive picture of aviation in general including the basics of aviation technology. Starting from the Royal Air Force (RAF) operations during the World War II up to the combat operations of the SLAF in the recent past, the museum offers a detailed depiction of the evolution which has shaped the SLAF into a highly successful fighting force as it is today.
