According to local residents and documentation, this clock tower is one of the tallest on the island rising to a height of 23.8 m (78 ft) with a 4.9 m (16 ft) girth. The clock tower in existence for more than sixty years, is considered to be of archaeological value, thus providing the Piliyandala town with a historical background. Late D. Simon Samarakoon erected this clock tower in memory of his parents Cornelis Wijewickrema Samarakoon and his wife. The foundation stone for the erection of the clock tower was laid by the then Minister of Local Government C.W.W. Kannangara on 11 September 1952. The construction was completed in seven months and the clock tower was commissioned on 30 April 1953, and has been running ever since.

The Piliyandala Clock Tower is located in the Piliyandala, Sri Lanka. The clock tower is a popular landmark of the Piliyandala. According to local residents and documentation, this clock tower is one of the tallest on the island rising to a height of 23.8 m (78 ft) with a 4.9 m (16 ft) girth. Having existed for over sixty years, the clock tower is considered to be of considerable archaeological value; thus, the tower provides the Piliyandala town with historical significance.[1] D. Simon Samarakoon erected the clock tower in memory of his father, Cornelis Wijewickrema Samarakoon, and his mother. The foundation stone for the erection of the clock tower was laid by the Minister of Local Government C. W. W. Kannangara on 11 September 1952. The construction was completed in seven months and the clock tower was commissioned on 30 April 1953, and has been running ever since.[2] The three-tiered clock tower was constructed with brick and cement and has a concrete layer on the topmost floor. The top floor is accessible via an iron staircase within the tower. At the top of the iron staircase, there is a box (1.52m x 1.2m) which houses the clock's three operating machines. These three winding-mechanisms simultaneously operate with a key once a week to power the clock. Each of the four faces of the clock is over 1.52 m (5 ft 0 in) wide. The minute hand is two-and-half feet long while the hour-hand is 0.61 m (2 ft 0 in) in length. A 0.3 m (1 ft 0 in) broad round butte' hangs from a five-foot long supporting bar. The clock tower is also equipped with three large chimes, each 0.92 m (3 ft 0 in) tall and 0.61 m (2 ft 0 in) broad to announce the hour.[1]

The Piliyandala Clock Tower is a charming local landmark that adds character to the town. Its simple design and prominent location make it easy to spot, and it often serves as a helpful reference point for visitors and locals alike. While it may not be a major tourist attraction, it's a nice touch to the town's atmosphere and a symbol of its identity. Worth a quick visit if you're in the area! ⏰🏙️

Nothing more than a landmark for the locality. It's a not so well maintained clock tower with a slightly out of sync time. There's a carpark right behind it, convenient for those who visit the town centre.

It was corporate trio with 60plus,I did a pre vist to the place, property is very nice rooms small but cosy, place appearence room pool were nice, the management was not flexible, 1st while we had a booking placed (tentative) which asking provision to increase rooms capacity, they had all the remaining rooms given to a different party, so it was a clash which made us change dates, absolute bad service at the restaurant on all 3 meals i would consider an absolute disaster, althogh we were promissed of a lavish international buffet spread was very small, once food was over even after informing refilling didnt happen, Most staff were very not professional, we as guests had to have a lot of patience with them, main issue corporate office lcated in Colombo which doesn't know how to manage the property and not being flexible. If both management and hotel staff come together and wotk out a plan will be good for guests as the property is well maintained except for the food and bad management.
