Best Ever hostel in Colombo and the prices are also very very nominal compared to high rated fancy hostel in Colombo (where the hospitality was poor) but this hostel provides the wonderful hospitality, and its on street also staff are very nice and supportive. I called him to know the directions or bus time etc he always pick n guide you very nicely. Hostel and washrooms are very clean . All the places to visit are very near . Its near to city center of Colombo. Food street are next to the lane Bus stand are walkable in just 5min distance

Some people rate poorly this hotel but this is a very decent accommodation for this price ($14 approx for a double room). The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms and bathrooms are clean, there is good AC in the rooms and warm water in the shower. I don't think anyone paying 14 bucks should expect anything more for this price. Thanks again for a very nice stay!

Very well maintained and super clean. More than good to its price point. Didn't receive a sheet for sleeping and no soaps were there in the washroom. That's the only minus point but um pretty sure they will supply if requested. Very friendly as well.

Its a cheap hostel dont expect a roof top pool and room service. Rooms have aircon (big big win). staff are very friendly, kind and help with advice and tips to not get scammed tuktuks

Amazing hostel and even more amazing staff. The room we had was clean and the A/C strong. Shared bathrooms were all clean and fully stocked. They have a pool table upstairs, not the greatest but good enough for a couple games. Common area downstairs at reception with tv and book self. Honestly the staff member on reception is what made this hostel stand out for me. So helpful and informative.

nice place with clean rooms and air conditioning. staff are very attentive and helpful. never had any complaints. wifi is good and there is a convenience store just 50 meters away. location is not far from city center and you can find a lot of busses to go anywhere in the city. the only downside it has no good common area and also that you will have to climb a few levels to your room. bathrooms are very clean and neat. very good for a traveller who has just landed in colombo or is taking a flight out. We stayed here for two nights after flying in to Colombo. This is a modest hostel with fantastic customer service. We were advised from anything from places to eat, tuk tuk prices and places to visit in Sri Lanka. We also had really friendly chats with the staff and they made us feel extremely confident and comfortable during our stay.

Good for the price, bathroom had some lights out and windows broken. Other than that everything was good. AC worked great!

Overall, I had a great experience with the Back pack Lanka ,staff was incredibly helpful, and the amenities were great. The room was wonderful, clean, and perfect but door locks and bathroom locks are not working properly.

This is in a surisingly fancy area so we’re still trying to figure out how to eat locally and affordablly around here! Staff is super helpful and accommodating. Check in was a breeze. Seems like a good value in an expensive city. Free breakfast is basic but better than nothing! My only complaint is no hooks in the room. A small observation but easy to fix and makes a huge difference when trying to stay organized in a tiny room! Oh and weak WiFi. 😏

Clean bathrooms, good place

My stay at Backpack Lanka was good. Such a central location, literally in the middle of town, they should advertise that fact more. Didn’t quite realize that shopping, food and nightlife were all walking distance away. The room was clean, cozy, and quiet. Towels and bed sheets were all clean. Toilets were new as advertised and clean. Water pressure was good, very important to me. Staff were friendly and the breakfast made by the manager Lakpria was amazing. The same sandwiches and toasties were available during the day so I came back for lunch although not staying there. Would I return? Absolutely yes!

This hostel is not for meeting other people. The chill area on the rooftop is in a bad state and the lobby chill area smells funny and is not very inviting (no bar or alcohol served). The service is good but the place is not the newest, but you get what you pay for.

Love it! The location is very Central so I save loads on travelling around town! You get great value for the under $20 price point. Private room, air conditioning, good beds, fresh comfy sheets, clean bathrooms and free breakfast! The staff are knowledgeable and helped me plan a trip. They were a lil shy so I asked but wow, did they know their stuff!

If you are looking for a budget and comfortable place right in the center of Colombo, don't hesitate to book Backpack Lanka. We feel very lucky choosing this hostel as it is so convenient for us to travel around. The staffs especially Mr. Malitha Lakshan are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were welcomed by his warm hospitality and were introduced the nice places to visit as we only a very short time in this city. From the hostel you can just take a walk about 1 km to Beira Lake, Gangaramaya Temple, further 500 meter you will see the beautiful colonial buildings. If you don't like to walk you can take a tuktuk which is easily found in streets. This hostel is also near some shopping center where you can easily find food at the food court there. We had dinner at the food court opposite to the hostel which was fine. The double room has good air conditioner and use bathroom after checking out. Having a chat with the staffs is one of a nice opportunity to interact with local people. We love our stay at Backpack Lanka and highly recommend you booking this gem. We will definitely stay at this hostel if we come back to Colombo.

Great place for Budget travellers. Gives you 3 kinds of Room; Dorm, Single and double. Cozy beds; A/C. Great staff always helpful. (They know all whereabouts or what not.) Louge space. Hot shower. Recommended 100%

This place really has a chill, laid back vibe. It is very cozy and the free breakfast offered, are Sri Lankan dishes which I really appreciated. You can huddle up in one table and can mingle with other travellers that are having breakfast as well. The shared restrooms and showers are plenty and clean. People are accommodating and friendly. They will help you make arrangements if you need transport. It is walking distance from restaurants and malls. There are a lot of tourist police around the place.

It's an okay place for budget travelers. Location is central. Rooms were small and had an odd smell. If you're looking for a basic place to sleep in ac it's good.

PLUS: Some people have rated low for this property, but overall it is a great place to stay for budget travelers/ visitors who has just landed in Colombo or is taking a flight out. Its prices are reasonable compared to high rated fancy hostel in Colombo. The room we had (Double Room with Shared Shower and Toilet) was clean, well maintained and the strong A/C with no noise from it (Some reviewers have mentioned about AC noises, but we didn’t experience such noise). They provided towels and linens for us. Although we did not use, there was WIFI facility (I used 5G there for my mobile😊, so no need WIFI). We checked in at night by informing them early. The staff member was friendly and guided us about facilities. We could find the location easily as it is in front of the liberty Plaza Kollupitiya. So, this was a big plus. Its near to city center of Colombo. Food street are next to the lane Bus stand are walkable in just 5min distance. Close to grocery shops, KFC, burger king, food courts, supermarket, ATM machines (in Liberty Plaza) near there too. The location is very Central so I save loads on travelling around town, literally in the middle of town, you can find a lot of busses to go anywhere in the city. they should advertise that fact more. MINUS: Breakfast and/or tea/ coffee were not included for the package. You will have to climb a few levels to your room. If you visit there please be kind enough to take shampoo, soaps, toothpaste etc. because they did not provide them I think the reason for it was they are SHARED WASHROOMS. (But I’m pretty sure they will provide them if we requested). I couldn’t get hot water for the tap (but shower had) We could hear other rooms’ voices but I must confess it’s not an issue for us. I don't think anyone paying 5200LKR (with tax) should expect anything more for this price. Thanks again for a very nice stay! Would I return? Absolutely yes! Highly recommended.
