Colombo Lavinia Beach Hostel

Hostel

👍👍 A hostel is experience like no other. I felt like I joined a family! Staff expected my arrival late at night and arranged all transport and check for me prior as reception would have been closed. I was greeted with breakfast in the morning and a lovely chat to make sure I wasn’t tired or jet lagged... People often mention hostel, beach, stay,

The beach is a 2 minute walk from the hostel. The owner of the hostel is nice but a little strict. You have to follow the hostel rules strictly. It is not exactly the type of Backpackers hostel you want it to be but it's good if you are planning a very short stay in Colombo. Mainly, if you are thinking to travel on a budget, you can stay here. The location of the hostel is prime and you can just walk around and find good restaurants, shopping area and the beach.

I was greeted with breakfast in the morning and a lovely chat to make sure I wasn’t tired or jet lagged. Rooms are great and very private. They have a main house with TV and kitchen and chill out area that looks and feels like your own home!

Really nice hostel. Wifi good room, super clean, easy to get to. Right by beach. A must if u are around Lavinia Beach. Easy to get to train stations and airport pickup was great. Before it was the Romanian Embassy.

The family that owns the house is lovely and very helpful. It is a 2 minute walk to the beach and they offer airport transfers for $20us which is good since it's quite a long drive. The pool wasn't filled up when I was there but they do have really cute lovebirds :)

If you have to stay in Colombo one night I'd recommend choosing this place and hanging out in Mt Lavinia beach rather than the city centre. The hostel is very close to all the amenities, is very well looked after and the owners are really helpful with train/bus times, advice on things to see and do in Sri Lanka etc. Definitely recommend

Absolutely LOVED it here. Best hostel, go straight from the airport to here, the host is so lovely and helpful. The hostel it's self is beautiful and so relaxing and the pool is Refreshing! Breakfast was so good! Had dill curry and sambal coconut with toast on the first day which was amazing, and eggs on toast the second day. You can use all facilities in the hostel including the kitchen which was amazing, 30 seconds from the beach, 5 minutes from the supermarket. Couldn't rate this hostel enough! Also they looked after my bag while travelling around Sri Lanka free of charge! It's so cheap! 5*

From all hostels we had stayed in Sri Lanka, it was the worst. The hosts were unfriendly. Haven’t even got a blanket for sleeping. No area to sit with other guests. Bathrooms were dirty.

Wonderful environment. Close to the beach and amenities. Away from the busy street and still has the Sri Lankan charm. Lots of space and many rooms to choose from. Friendly owner was willing to help and accommodate my groups need. Owner is updating and is always looking for feedback. Will definitely be back.

Low cost luxury. The first thing that stuck me was how neat and tidy the place actually was. The hostel provides plenty of commom areas to sit, relax and talk..Only 3 mins walk to the beach some amazing restaurants. Overall the place is very homely and is very beautiful. There is also a small makeshift pool in the front yard. I really recommend this place to anyone travelling to Colombo.

The woman, Merle, who manages it; is very warm. It's a family managed hostel with a very homely vibe and a lot of repeat visitors. They are very accomodating with a 24x7 check in and were kind to even accomodated a late check out by 7 hours

My worst experience during my 4 weeks travel. Rooms packed with beds - almost no space for luggage. Badly ventilated; staff even kept closing the windows during the day so it was difficult to get the heat out. WIFI didn't work properly. Staff was very unfriendly. Water in the little pool was dirty and not inviting to use. No breakfast was available. Even 1500 Rs were too much for this accomodation

Pros: Really nice hostel. Lots of areas to meet and relax. Really clean und super friendly and helpful staff. The beach is just around the corner (on the other side of the tracks), supermarket is in walking distance and you can take the crazy bus ride (Bus 100) to the city. The Laundry service was perfect. Cons: Lots of construction works are going on around the hostel and the trains are quite loud as well (just during the day), but If you don't hang around in the hostel for the whole day this should bother to much.

This place feels like home! The rooms are clean and cosy, and the owner is a lovely person! It's really close to the beach but slightly tucked away so I suggest you use Google maps!

Quiet and quaint place with a wonderful staff and super friendly owner. Very clean and open and right next to the beach, with comfortable beds and cool rooms for sleeping. Good wifi and very relaxing atmosphere for those who want something off the beaten path. When I arrived i was exhausted and had forgotten to go to the atm so i had no cash. The owner gave me a glass of cold tea and told me it was no problem and told me to take a nap and go to the atm after I rested. She also allowed me to stay in the lobby after checkout while waiting on a late train. Also the best bookshelf i have seen while traveling Asia and a great and comfortable den to relax and read in. All in all, a truly great experience.
