Always an amazing experience. Very comforting atmosphere. Great food for an amazing price. Never disappointing Update : been to ECC multiple times since this previous review and I still stand by it! These guys do such great work with their desserts! The tarts and cheesecakes are way better than the cakes though, I find that the cake slices tend to be dry :/ the savouries are amazing too! Such a homely atmosphere inside I love it! Tried an Iced Caramel Latte yesterday, and it was so so bad. Tasted like milk powder, whatever it was. It was super thick and I couldn't finish it

29th Jan 2022. It's been 13hrs since I posted the below comment and I'm adding to my review after a very refreshing call I had with Yohan today early morning (owner). They owned up to their mistake and looking at fixing the problem rather than trying to just please me. Actions such as this gives me the confidence to reorder knowing there are honest business owners who add value to Sri Lanka. If anyone is wondering if I got replacements, I was offered, but I refused as I wasn't trying to get free food and also it was late in the night (as it wasnt a special occasion just a spontaneous food craving) and only wanted to be heard. However I'm told that I was reimbursed for those items which was a nice thing. Yes I will be reordering in the future. 👍🙂👌 28th Jan 2022.I ordered few cakes including 2 passion fruit tart slices via UberEats and it was horrible. I called the shop unfortunately all I got as a solution is "I'm sorry we cannot do anything right now our delivery guy is not here " unfortunately the team is not empowered to make out of the box solutions to rectify the mess. Also if your bakers are changing there is something called Quality Control which you guys might want to incorporate to your work flow.. Won't be ordering from you guys again. Very very disappointed.

It was okay, not that great. We ordered coffee which was decent and the cookies that came with it taste really good.

If you are a cheese cake lover, this is the go to place in Colombo. The cakes are always fresh, soft and consistent in taste! They never disappoint, however my review is only for the cheese cake. I cannot comment on the other products as I have not tried them out yet. Coffee servings are absolutely generous and the prices were highly reasonable with the current inflation in the island. I would highly recommend this place with confidence for all coffee lovers out there.

We went there to have some cakes! The place is not maintaining well. Dusted tables, rusted fans, not cleaned for a while.. but no complains with the food and the service. Hope you will take to your consideration..

The worst experience. They don't clean mugs. Coffees are undrinkable and they don't know the difference between mocha and hit chocolate. Wasted money with feelo coupons. Never going there.

My wife and I have been fans and loyal customers of the Cakery for close upon a decade. Our favourite by far is the Passion Victoria cake. We have seriously had this cake by the truckloads. My wife who is fan of mint love their mint squares, which she says reminds her exactly of an After Eight chocolate. Another reason we continue to be consistent customers of the Cakery is because their prices remain reasonable despite insane inflation with no compromise to the quality, whereas other cake outlets have seriously jacked up their prices. We order their cakes for most birthdays and last Christmas we tried their brandy infused Christmas pudding. It was sensational. Keep up the great work @thecakery 🍰

A cozy place where you can almost feel at home with a collection of books. Have a wide variety of cakes and sweet items available along with coffee and other drinks. Didn't like the chocolate cake a lot. But hope other items are good. The place is used by many students to have discussions and study. Would personally prefer if the front side and the outdoor area is refurbished because it will add more look to the cafe.

The cakes we purchased for a birthday were not tasty at all. The standards have definitely dropped. Also, the premises is not well maintained. Staff pays less attention to the customers and is more engrossed with their own conversations. Disappointing experience.

When it comes to taking a sweet route on a stressful day nothing can compare to this lemon cake ... my absolute favorite. Got the passion fruit cake slice for my mom and she absolutely loved it. ❤️

Service was awful when i visited recently and based on this experience i won't return anytime soon - it's a shame as i used to love this place. Half of the menu items were missing (understandable due to current situation), but the cashier had to go to the kitchen for each and every item to check - which took ages. The stack i ordered was sub par at best- given the prices, I'd expected much better (and frankly used to be better). The juices had way too much suger on them too, which made us leave the thing half way through. The place also looked neglected for lack of better words, as it looked falling apart. The kitchen also looked bit untidy and "dirty".

Just checked out the new spot of the English cake company AKA Cakery and it's a winner! The customer service here is on point. The staff are super friendly and really make you feel welcome. It's refreshing to see such dedication to making customers happy. I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The new outlet has a cool vibe too. It's cozy yet spacious, perfect for hanging out or getting some work done. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and will definitely be back for more!

My husband bought a Chocolate cake yesterday for a tea party we hosted form my birthday. It was hard, dry and tasted stale. Every one tasted it and left it mostly uneaten. I had to give other plates for the rest of the food. I'm very disappointed and upset.

Worst at delivery... I ordered a birthday cake to be delivered for my fathers birthday with writing on top. Attached was what I received - a chocolate mess! I have ordered cakes from other places through delivery services before, and received in much better conditions. Either educate the riders on the proper way of delivering cakes, or dont offer delivery services for your cakes in the first place. Very disappointing... 😡

The Cakery has been all time favorite dessert place of mine. They’ve now introduced a breakfast menu and also a high tea experience to their customers. Tried their Passion Fruit Victoria Sandwich, Chocolate Cheesecake Tart and Gooey Chocolate Cake. The Victoria Sandwich is a British cake which was named after Queen Victoria simplicity at its best, sweet Passion Fruit on top and pillowy soft cream, which is sandwiched between two light and fluffy sponge cakes which was delicious and it was so good. Chocolate lovers here we come. The Chocolate Cheesecake Tart was honestly a love at first sight. It’s one of the most irresistible desserts that I’ve tried and to be honest I was overwhelmed by the rich flavor and appearance. Every bite a perfect explosion of excellence and incredible taste and it didn’t disappoint me. The base of the tart was made with dark chocolate biscuit layer, the middle with a layer of creamy layer of cream cheese and the top was layered with chocolate mousse where the flavors were well balanced and decadent.The cream cheese and the chocolate mousse perfectly melts in your mouth. If you want to impress yourself, then this cake is the one for you to try. This is an all time favorite of mine. The Gooey Chocolate cake was a cocoa-based cake which is deeply chocolaty and was a gooey mess. This was smothered with a cocoa buttercream frosting. The Cakery hasn’t changed in terms of service and ambience. The place is massive with plenty of seating and they've also got an outdoor seating area with cement tables and benches. Upstairs on the balcony is another seating area decked out with giant blue umbrellas. The service here was okay and nothing to complain about and would recommend anyone to try their whole range of cakes.

Very nice environment to chill and work on your won without any disturbances. I visited the place with friends also and it was good. The prices for the cake pieces are reasonable compared to most other places. The cheesecake is to die for.

This was the second time I tried out this cake shop located within One Galle Face Mall. We really enjoyed their Lime pie and Cheesecakes.🍰 The staff was friendly and helpful.

Has a pretty good cosy vibe. They have ample of parking space, seating space with shelves and shelves of books on top of the variety of cakes and other bakery items. Personally I loved the chocolate gooey cake.

If you've got a sweet tooth, this is the place for you. The types of cake here are so sweet. Sometimes too sweet. If you don't have diabetes, well you're going to get it when you visit this place. (Not literarily of course) Prices can look overpriced but once you eat their food you'll realise the reason. We gave one less star because we saw a fly in the showcase. Friendly staff. 5 stars for the food though.

Huge selection of cakes and sweet goodies. They have a savory selection which I haven't tried. They do slices and whole cakes, don't think I've had something I don't like there, coz everything tastes well above average and quite cheap compared to most other cafes serving sub par cakes. I love the citrus and chocolate flavours they do! The only negative is the interior vibe doesn't match the food they serve.

They have the yummiest cakes. The staff very polite and helpful. But they took a long time to bring my iced latte. The place was very calming but they only had fans no ac so it was a bit hot.

The cakes here are an experience on their own. I am a huge lover of the Passion Victoria cake as it gives the perfect balance of sweet and tangy and is therefore my go-to choice when I want to treat myself. I ordered a carrot cake. It is too course, dry and the frosting tasted way to acidic. The chocolate slice I ordered was just a regular, dry piece of chocolate cake. Putting in the work is not just enough to keep up the quality of the goods you lads produce, you need to be passionate about what you do.

We went there to have a cup of coffee and cake. The experience was very poor. To start off the service was atrocious. The server was in a world of his own and was extremely slow despite having only 2 more guests tables occupied with 4 guests apart from us. We ordered savories followed by cake and coffee. There was no coffee so settled for cold beverages. The server brought the cake and the drinks. When inquired about the savories, he said to wait a couple of minutes. We waited for more than 20 minutes. No savory items. By this time my wife and I both had the cake. I went to the counter and inquired. He said he’ll bring it soon. After 30 minutes the savories were brought. It was stone cold. We were too disappointed to even ask why it was not heated. The place is run down and poorly lit and has not been maintained for a long time. Decor is dated. It’s a shame. Only good aspect was the 2 cakes which were good and we both enjoyed. Apart from that the whole experience was very poor and disappointing. We will not return to this place.

It is definitely a “MUST VISIT” to get your sweet tooth cravings done right. The Cakery is very famous for their fresh and high quality cakes in Colombo. I wasn’t too pleased with their service, coz first they missed some of our items and then some of them got late. The place cozy and if you go around that place you can taste their yummy cakes as me.

Visited after a few months. I'm totally disappointed. Half the items on menu not available. Ordered chili garlic prawns bagel. Given some sandwiches with polsambol. When asked where the prawns were, he told the prawns to be mixed in. Ordered iced late. Served with no ice saying they don't have ice. Total waste of time and money. Avoid a disappointment.

This review is entirely about the food not about the place. The food was extremely good. This place got the best cakes I have ever had, the quality, the taste, out of this world. And most importantly, the products are half the price comparing with other places. Totally worth it.

We ordered a cake from The English Cake Company (aka The Cakery) for afternoon tea, yesterday. It was a passionfruit and strawberry cake, with lemon fondant icing. And it was absolutely delicious!! Soft, yet firm. Freshly made, with very high quality ingredients, and fragrant. And such a generous size that huge slices were able to be given to the guests to take home. We are so impressed at the consistently high quality across the range of the products made by this company, throughout all the crises affecting the country, and the excellent service their staff offer. P.S. Their mint slices are also plus size - and sumptuous! Five enthusiastic stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 from us!

Nice quiet place..Had double chocolate cheese cake it was very tasty...

We had such a great experience with Yohan and his business. My 13 year old only wanted his friends and 2 specific cakes for his birthday! The English Cake Company pulled this off on short notice and delivered both cakes to my house in a gas crises. We were very impressed and they tasted delicious! We will definitely order again from here in future as you cannot beat the service, at ease ordering and delivery and of course the taste. Thank you Yohan and team!

Their hi-tea is the most reasonably priced hi-tea in Colombo I think and comes with 4 savouries and 4 desserts. You can also choose from a variety of drinks including coffees and juices. Their staff is courteous. I got a call from them asking me about my preferences in bagels, sandwiches & desserts. They have quite a lot of options to choose from. Definitely recommended!

Yummy deserts, friendly staff and calm atmosphere. I went there with kids and friends and we certainly loved it. The choices were overwhelming, cakes very filling, and atmosphere was calm we stayed for over 5 hours chatting, and kids were all over the couch and floor cushions. They loved the books which kept them occupied. A tea pot might have been better for the tea as we had alot of milk left, or a smaller milk container of course. Ice coffee was bottled but delicious. Water was the only thing missing. Drinking distilled water is just too expensive if youre staying long, we might have brought our own water in this case, or would have loved some filtered water? Anyway overall excellet time there. Would love to go back or even for take aways! Gluck!

They ran a promo for a dessert but didn't look like they planned for the increase in demand because the toppings were always out of stock, we called several days before visiting. Finally we visited around 9pm, the staff vibe is unwelcoming. It felt like they prefer takeaway customers. Dim lighting and under-maintained setup. Waffles were not warm. But taste was good. Staff was loud and having private chat through out. This was mentioned by several clients but hasn't changed yet. I know the owner will now reply to defend/ counter attack. But I wish they will put that effort to make some actual improvements. The place has potential, all the best.
