As an Australian living in Colombo for the past two years, I've been to a few gem shops but this is my jeweller of choice. Mr Isam Salie is now the fourth generation running this shop. The Salie family really know their gems, but most of all they are unfailingly patient whether you are spending $200 or $2000 (or more). I have also found their workmanship to be excellent - Mr Salie recently remade a ring for me and the quality of the workmanship makes it sit a lot better, but also look like a more expensive piece.

We worked with AM Salie to design and build my wife's engagement ring and our wedding bands and the process was flawless! We selected the stones and collaborated on a custom design together. Salie and team went to work! The end product was nothing short of a masterpiece! The craftsmanship was exceptional and the pricing was very reasonable especially considering all of the hours spent on our pieces

We visited Colombo last week. During this time I found Salies Store by positive reviews on google. From the beginning I was really happy with the cooperation - all the prices visible from the beginning (not 3x higher and then divided by 3, like in other places). From the beginning everything was transparent. It was first Gem Store where I really trust person which I was talking with. I wanted to create a pendant with pink sapphires in yellow gold. We were constatly in touch on WhatsApp, I was sending all of my ideas. Shazi all the time was very patient and helpful. After one day - we created together pendant which I was dreaming about :D It took few days and the pendant was ready. It was even better, that I expected. Very high quality of stones, gold and jeweler work. I received in case 2 additional stones and certificate with all of the pendant details. I’m 1000% satisfied. I want to recomment this place to all the people who cares about quality, transparency and trust.

I wish I could give 10 stars instead of 5! I was in touch in advance by Whatsap arranging to have a bespoke ring made at fairly short notice and got clear information and proactive communication about what to expect. The ring was beautiful but not quite what I had in mind - I’d been told in advance I was under no obligation to take it if I wasn’t 100% happy and I was given absolute freedom to take it as it was, remake it (with information given on what was possible in the remaining time) or leave it. I was impressed to experience the practice of the Salies’ commitment to customers leaving only with something they love (even if that means the loss of the sale)! Ultimately I didn’t take the ring I’d had made, but decided to take something else from the shop, which was equally beautiful. I’m wishing I could give 10 stars because Isam and Shazi come across as having both integrity and passion for what they do - from the moment we met I had confidence I was in good hands and I would recommend them without hesitation. That they are warm, and friendly people who are a pleasure to deal with is a nice bonus! I only wish I’d got in touch sooner so if you are looking for something special, drop them a line.

Lovely staff. Mrs. Salies and Rizman helped me pick out sapphires and spinel. It was a comfortable experience to shop without pressure and have knowledgeable advice. I took my sapphires to be tested and they were genuine. It's difficult to know where to go as there are so many shops and some are not so honest so after reading reviews, I selected this one. I was not disappointed. I would highly recommend anyone coming to Colombo to stop here and have a look. I was mainly interested in loose stones but I was able to find a lovely ring too. I probably bought more than I planned too! They made earrings from my sapphires. Prices are reasonable for the high quality. Workmanship for the earrings are approximately $45 USD/ 1gm of gold. You can easily spend a couple of hours here looking and asking questions. Majority are Sri Lanka sapphires but they do have different gems from around the world. Update three years on: I have had these sapphires reset in diamonds. Nothing compliments sapphires as well as diamonds. Pictures attached. Still one of the nicest sapphires I've purchased.

I enquired with Salies as I lost an invaluable piece of jewellery and was hoping to have it remade. Salies were extremely helpful, communicative and fast; reassuring me they would be able to remake the jewellery, as well as providing me several options at different price points. A few days after our initial conversations I found the jewellery. When I let them know I no longer needed the commission they were more than understanding, they were happy for me. Came to Sri Lanka on vacation. I hoped to find a canary yellow sapphire ring that would sit touching the skin in the mount. I visited many jewelry shops in Kandy & Colombo. Most are nothing but a giant scam. Terrible quality stones, terrible prices. Came to Salie’s based off reviews and so glad I did!!! They have the best quality stones, best prices and most amazing owners/staff! Finally found an honest shop 🙌🏼.

Fantastic experience with Salies Jewellers - Shazi is so lovely, she is the most patient, super helpful and attentive (in person and via WhatsApp) and really wants to make sure that you get the design you want. Mr Abdul is also very helpful and kind. Overall, their turnaround times were fast and the design is lovely. Some alterations need to be done which I will do upon my return, but I'm already super impressed with the customer service and craftsmanship I received at Salies. Definitely recommended!

Isam is just the friendliest man! I've always been so nervous when it comes to trying to negotiate custom pieces, but Isam made the entire process authentically enjoyable! His wife drew up a few designs for me to consider within mere minutes, and Isam encouraged me to go with silver (less than $50!) when I debated which metal to choose - talk about not feeling pressure! I was also impressed he emphasized to me that it comes with a lifetime warranty. In the end, I went with rose gold and I absolutely ADORE my new Sinhala name necklace!!! 😍 My previous go-to necklace was from Tiffany & Co., and I honestly love this one just so much more! It is so very classy and unique, and I'll carry the wonderful experience I had at Salie`s with me for years to come. After wearing it for just a day, I've already gotten so many compliments. I will definitely be back to have several more made for family and friends. I think it would be the most perfect souvenir for tourists visiting the island, as well! What a perfect experience. Went to Salie's for a bespoke pendant. Already had a gem and a design in mind, but worked closely with Isam (initially over email and later in-person) on all the finer details. Everything was done within one week of our first meeting, including minor variations / adjustments to the first version of the pendant that was produced. Very impressed by the end result, and a big thank you to Isam and the Salie's team!

Very good customer experience! We looked for saphhires in Sri Lanka with my husband during our honeymoon and we have been experiencing tourists traps in the center of the country around Kandy. Then we looked on the internet and we found Salies in a blog. So we went to Colombo to the store and we met a lovely couple that really know their job and are experts in stones. We selected beautiful stones (bleu and pink sapphires) and they created the jewels in less than 4 days ! They do not start with huge prices and then divide it by 3 which is non sense, they give approx prices near to real ones. Of course they provide detailed bills and certificates! The results were much appreciated ! You can really rely on Salie's for stones and jewels around stones! Looking forward to order with them again :)

I saw the great reviews for Salies and wanted a ring with precious stones making. I liaised with Isam whilst I was still in England, via what's app, sending photos of what I wanted and my budget. It was made, they sent me photos and I collected and paid for it today in Colombo. Really pleased with their craftmanship. I had a modest budget and the team there were so down to earth and helpful. It's a great way to remember your trip to Sri Lanka: having some jewellery made featuring their wonderful precious stones. Highly recommended.

I cannot recommend this jewellery business enough. From the moment I made initial contact the lovely owners were so helpful and never pushy. I had very limited time in Colombo so much of our communication was done via WhatsApp. When I did visit the store, Ismal and Shazi, the delightful husband and wife team, were so helpful in making my dream for a Ceylon sapphire ring cone true. They are lovely! Their team worked late into the night to create my bespoke ring, which I collected yesterday morning on my way to the airport. We visited Sri Lanka in 09/2022. My wife wanted sapphire rings and she found Salies online. There aren't that many reviews, but they are all exceptional which is why we went there. Isam and Shazi are knowledgable, friendly, hardworking and honest. We discovered Isam was a neighbour of our driver Ranil (complete coincidence, booked independently through a friend) and they both had great respect for one another (and Ranil was a gentleman of pure honesty). After visiting Salies at the start of our trip, we then travelled through Sri Lanka for the next 2 weeks. All this time, Shazi kept in contact with my wife, constantly sending photos/videos of different gems and settings in different lighting to give her all the information. Everything was perfect upon return and we paid at that point. Isam even drove us back to our hotel to ensure we got there safely before taking us on a little tour toward the market up north. I wanted to go to the Gem Authority, and they were happy to do so. Unfortunately the authority wasn't open on weekends, but Salies had obtained certificates and we believed them to be real. A short time prior to a planned trip to Sri Lanka in November, 2022, I researched reputable jewellers in Colombo. Personal recommendations and online reviews led me to Salies Fine Jewellery in Colombo. I contacted Isam Salie (the owner and gemmologist himself) via email, explaining that we only had one afternoon in Colombo and asked the prices of some of the items on his website. As much of their jewellery is bespoke, he suggested that he send me photos and videos of some of the loose sapphires he had, with prices to have them made into designs of my choice. He then offered, at no obligation, to make up two of the stones into rings (my size and design) for me to view during my afternoon in Colombo. He said that if I did not wish to purchase either of them he would put them in his showcase for someone else to buy. On the chosen day we caught an Uber from Negombo to Colombo (an hour away) and, upon seeing the two rings, I couldn't decide between them - so bought them both! Full documentation, including certification from an independent gem testing laboratory was provided. Isam and his lovely wife Shazi were extremely friendly during our visit there and very kindly drove us back to our accommodation in Negombo, as it was late afternoon by then. Isam went over and above in his communications with me prior to our trip and responded to my many emails full of questions about the loose stones very promptly. At all times he was very upfront about the prices of the stones/rings, so that I was able to research the prices and contemplate my purchase before going to Sri Lanka. I have already told many travelling friends about this store and hope this review assists others in finding the jewellery of their dreams in this wonderful store.

I recently visited Sri Lanka for the first time and I purchased a custom made ring from Salies (rose gold, a teal sapphire and two tiny white sapphires). Now that I'm settled back home, I wanted to review my experience as it was a great one! Mr and Mrs Salie were really patient and accomodating; both when I contacted them with my budget and idea, and at the shop too. The process before purchase was really easy and surprisingly fast, and I got presented just the ring I imagined when I finally arrived at the shop. Where to start.. A huge THANK YOU to Isam and his lovely wife Shazi and the rest of their team for the best customer service, jewellery design and beautiful gems that one can dream of. After reading the many positive reviews on Google and TripAdvisor I contacted (reluctantly) Isam (the shop owner) via WhatsApp and had a very nice and quick reply from him, I felt instantly at ease. I originally only wanted a simple cuff with a sapphire but the more we exchanged, the more I could feel the honesty and trust so I ended up ordering a custom-made eternity ring which took a couple of weeks to finalise as we discussed design ideas, selected the gems (which Isam carefully chose and let me tell you, he chose the most beautiful out there!) and the ring ended up being our biggest and most beautiful project! All was completed while I was still abroad before travelling to Sri Lanka. The beautiful cuff was made very quickly and was exactly how I wanted it with the exact measurements I asked for. They had to remake the cuff twice because of the design as I kept changing my mind (my own fault!) and not once did they make me feel that it was a bother (and it was free of charge despite the labour and time involved which was extremely generous of them). This was done super quickly while we were travelling in other parts of Sri Lanka. All prices were agreed beforehand and I was never pushed towards bigger, more expensive gems, in fact, Isam talked me out of it because he felt the smaller stones would look better for our project! And he was completely right! I'm glad I listened hhh Something to be aware of is that on our way to his shop the first day after arriving to Sri Lanka, we were stopped my multiple strangers that were trying to get us to go to "the bureau" saying that they had discounts on gems and jewellery that day and that it is the only place that sells genuine gems etc.. We politely declined and after several no thank you, they understood! So just be weary of that, as apparently it is a scam and they get commission if they get you to buy something from the so called bureau. Regardless of whether you are going to Islam's shop or another jeweller, do your research beforehand so you are confident about the place you will buy from! Isam and Shazi are the sweetest, most generous and trustworthy people you can meet in Sri Lanka, so if you are after gems or beautiful custom-made jewellery this is your place! A gem of a shop! After arriving in Sri Lanka, I visited many jewellry stores hoping to buy white sapphire earrings. Most places were over priced with pushy sales staff, stones that were not that great and clearly did not match. Very few choices and did not allow me to customize the style of the earrings. On a recommendation, I visited Salie’s Fine Jewellry (located directly in front of the US Embassy). I was greeted by the owner Isam, a 5th generation gem professional. From the time I walked into the store, I felt incredibly comfortable. Isam was more interested in making sure I got exactly what I was looking for. Perfectly matched white sapphires and the fittings were customized to exactly how I wanted it, on white gold, just the way I wanted it. It was made at Isam’s jewellry workshop. Isam guided me through the entire process personally. I left with a perfectly matched pair of white sapphire earrings that I not only get compliments for, most people assume they are diamonds!! The earrings and my experience at Salie’s Fine Jewellry alone was worth the trip to Sri Lanka!

This is by far the best place to go! I was travelling with my mom and before we arrived to Colombo we did some research and this was the place that we wanted to go. We went to the store on the very first day we landed in Colombo. Unfortunately our day wasn't going great, we had some unfortunate situations, but we still decided to go to the store. As soon as we entered we were absolutely enchanted by Shazi, who not only helped our day to become brighter but her professionalism was outstanding. Our idea was to recreate some pieces of jewellery that we took from a magazine. Our concern was how were we going to make it happen as we were sepnding only two days in Colombo. Shazi immediately came up with the perfect solution. As we were staying in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks, she would meet with us in our final destination, in Galle. She and her husband drove all the way from Colombo to meet us. And guess what? As this was our last day, they even took us back to Colombo airport, as we were flying back from there. We were just blown away with everything. The 3 pieces of jewellery turned out exactly as we wanted. We are so happy to have met Shazi! Since we came back to our hometown in Portugal, we are still in contact and creating more pieces with Shazi, as there is a shipping service available to Portugal. I couldn't recommend more this store. I can assure you, you won't be disappointed with their impeccable and delightful service!

We had such a good experience working with Isam at Salies Fine Jewelry. My wife emailed him ahead of time with a custom ring design she was looking for and arranged to meet him at the beginning of our short trip. He opened the store two hours early, as we had a red eye and arrived early into Colombo and were heading to the coast that same day. He operates a very friendly no pressure sales store. He showed us numerous stones matching our budget and when the stones we looked at were not matching the color or shape we were looking for- he sent us away and communicated with us via text messages when he found further stones that matched the criteria we were looking for. He was very honest in describing why one stone looks a certain why and why one is a certain price and did his very best to match the best stone within our budget.
