As suggested, this place is proper. Service was prompt even as busy as it was. The foid was great. The no refund wings were hot. Like hot enough that if they didn't name them accordingly you would want one. Burger was perfect. Great selection on booze too.

Mac’s is the best bar and restaurant in Short North! It is an Irish bar with what no other bar in Short North has - great food, great drinks, and great entertainment! It also has (drum roll please) the #1 burger in town! When you come here, you get great service, awesome food, great drinks, and entertainment. Let’s start at the top. It’s one of the biggest bars with spacious seating, pool table, jukebox, arcade games, front and back entrances, awesome people, and beer selection is endless. You can build your own burger!!! Which I love! It’s very reasonably priced for the quality and taste. This time around I got the burger with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños. All burgers comes standard with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. They also come with a choice of a side (omg!). The make your own burger starts at $11.95 - very reasonable for this awesome burger. The best part - it comes with fries. Other restaurants charge separately for fries (shame on them). Mac’s is located smack dab in the middle of short north, making it convenient. It’s a place that should be more crowded everyday of the week, but its sheer size makes it look less filled.

Up until last night, we would of given this place 5 stars. Last night was the worst experience my family and I have had in recent memory. I’ll start off by saying we’ve been coming here about once a month for the past 6 months and had absolutely loved the food, and just as much the one waitress we would always have. She is an absolute rockstar, and I’m guessing when she’s not there, the one stars keep coming. Last night not only was the food terrible, then the waitress charged up for 3 different sauces for my sons chicken fingers (1.00 each) that we didn’t ask for. Then if that’s not enough charged us for fries, twice and all we got was fish and chips. Isn’t the chips part of that? If I haven’t lost ya yet, wait, just wait till you get their nasty Cole slaw that was spoiled beyond comprehension! Terrible! It took us nearly 30 mins after we were done eating before we had someone walk by so we could get the check, and when we told the waitress she told my wife she’d let the kitchen know. Wow! Well I hope it was worth it, cause you lost us for good! 1-fish and chips 1-kids chicken tenders 2-side salads 2-waters 1-sprite $78 dollars. Nah, I’ll pass!

It is nice to see another Scottish pub like ours (Scottish Thistle in Piqua, Ohio). The good service goes hand-in-hand with the wonderful food and nice drink selection. We had salmon toast, sauerkraut and a salmon dinner. Everything we had was excellent including our hard cider and Scottish ale Can't wait to go back the next time we go through Columbus!

I really, really, REALLY want to like this place. After several times coming in, I find it hard to get the attention of wait staff to order. On my most recent visit, i ordered a beer and some fries. After finishing my first beer, I still hadn't gotten any fries. No big deal, I was planning on having another anyway. When I was ready for another drink, I had to wait until the available bar staff we done talking in a group at the end of the bar before ordering my next beer, once I got the next drying l drink, I STILL hadn't received any fries. Ordered another beer and I asked if she even put the fries in. She hadn't. At that point I decided it wasn't worth it and my group decided to move on. I have not rated this place before today despite having been here several times, but this was my last straw. My recommendation is to stop flirting with/talking with the one person you know at the bar and help the guests who are trying to give you business. I'm incredibly saddened that one of the few "non-college" feeling bar/restaurants in the area feels less welcoming to an out-of-towner then one if the ACTUAL college bars.

It was so amazing. I went to Scotland in 2017 and the fish n chips reminded me of my trip! The atmosphere is so chill and has a gorgeous view of the arches with the rainbow lights. The waitress was super sweet. Great prices and portion sizes as well. I usually eat at the same places but I got lost and ended up in the short north and was like “wow they have a lot of unique restaurants here!” (Aka not chain restaurants; which is where I usually eat). I substituted the coleslaw for Mac n cheese and it was amazing!

Had Barley's Scottish ale with the Scotch eggs and bangers and mash. Excellent beer, great food, and a chill vibe. Truly a nice little pub. I'm a long way from home, but I hope to be back.

I will never come back to this place again! I have never experienced such inattentive staff before. My dad and his friends used to go to this place when they were in college and wanted me to go and enjoy it with them. I went this past weekend after working at the Beerfest in the convention center and we all were so hungry after. We sat down and got our menus but after that the service was horrible. It took an hour to place an appetizer and even longer to place our food. We tried to wave down our waitress and what looked to be a manager but to no avail, it is like they saw us and just ignored our table. This place was half filled so there was no excuse for the lack of service. It took getting another waitress to finally place our orders. Everyone at the table was just done at this point and we never got to order a beer till the food came out. The food was amazing so if you want to wait over an hour for it be my guest but there are so many other amazing places in Columbus that I rather go to. I had the Scotch eggs and the Guinness stew. It seems like this place was good at one time so I hope they can get this issue fixed for the other customers.

Had a simple salad but they were out of cucumbers and croutons apparently so it was just lettuce and cheese (I asked for no onion). Was quiet inside which was nice.

Everything about this place is awesome Had the loaded tots for an appetizer. For my meal I had a build your own burger with ghost peppers cheese and mushrooms and a side of mashed potatoes. All the food was great Service was on point as well. They were here when we needed refills and took care of us without being overwhelming. Will definitely come back!

Well, it’s unique from a lot of what’s around, I haven’t tried the entire menu nor drinks; I am not qualified to make a full statement. My dinner was okay, the fish and chips a bit soft inside, a bit salty all of it. I was talking a lot, drinking a cider, I didn’t have the time to dissect. The bangers and mash was better for sure… I’ll be back, I may edit review then, I think it deserves your fare and business and always chances to improve. Service was excellent.

This place is over rated. There shrimp tastes like they’ve had it sitting in tap water for several days. I don’t know how to describe it. Don’t come here.

My wife is from England and saw that this place was called a "proper pub" so she said we had to stop to see if it was truly a proper pub. We saw the menu and she was happy to see bangers and mash on the menu and ordered that, I was smart and tried the Guness Stew on an 85 degree day. Besides being overheated due to eating a stew on a hot day, the food was amazing and my wife was happy to have some food that reminded her of home.

The fantastic service made up for the mediocre bar food. We ordered their famous scotch eggs to share, which were dry with an over cooked egg accompanied by a very bland dipping sauce. Average tap list. Tons of seating and seems like a nice spot to watch sports.

One of my favorite spots in Columbus. Found this pub shortly after visiting Scotland for the first time. 1986, I spent a week in St Andrews. The pub has great Scottish beers on tap and a menu that does not dissappoint. Darts in the back. Just a comfortable Pub. I can't believe Mac's just popped up as a review choice. I left Columbus five years ago. But I bet, I'd still love Macs. Sorry, at this point no photos to add. However, I'm sure this is a second or third review from me. 😂

I had the Mac loaded tots and they were huge. Super salty. But a delicious compliment to my coffee ale. Has pool tables on the back and our server was super sweet and attentive. Loved the beer and local service.

My wife and I dipped in here for a few drinks on our valentines date. Basic bar, good atmosphere.

Such a great find! Nice beer selection, salmon toast was amazing! Everything was good, including the sauerkraut balls! Servers were helpful and attentive, we don't live local, but would definitely stop in again when we're in Cbus!

Ugh, we went after not having been in a decade, and sadly, it is not what it used to be. Biggest pet peeve, "proper fries" apparently means frozen waffle fries, not traditional chips like they used to have. The food is simply not what it one was, hand-crafted, scratch-made, home cooking. It is all like everything else now. Just go to a CMR nearby if you want good food.

This place is amazing. Traveling for video collecting. Just happened to park in front of here and the fries and mac daddy burger was amazing. Fresh tea; and great alcohol drinks! Very clean. Great staff. Great service.

Mac's has a good selection of drinks, and their food is great too. Their appetizers (especially their brie toast) are phenomenal. They also have pool in the back, so they check off a lot of the boxes. Great place to go for a drink with a colleague after work.

Such a terrible experience. Service was slow and waited so long for food that we ended up canceling our order. There was no apology/empathy from the server or the owner. The response we got was that there was only one person in the kitchen and they couldn't give an estimate on how long food would take. However that was not advised of beforehand. Overall poor service and would have expected more from the owner.

Very cute bar. The older gentleman, I forgot his name, was very friendly and attentive. Not in the area much but will definitely be back! Great beer selection

Worst experience ever. Food took forever to the point we cancelled. The waitress was defensive when we asked about it. Ask for a manager and she said there’s an owner. She never came. We asked again and she said “oh you want the owner…” yep. Finally she came over and was just as dismissive and said “we only have one cook what do you want me to do?” Ugh… do better! Worst experience, will not return!

Regional brews alongside popular favorites, along with a menu with something for everyone. All items ordered were prompt, delicious and plentiful, from appetizers to main course. The service was good too!

Stopped in for happy hour and our group had a great time. Appetizers and entrees we had were solid. Chad at the bar took very good care of us, and brought some great beer recommendations.

Good vibes! The scotch egg is so good! I like this place since it has pool and overall just feels chill.

Pros: Has changed slightly over the years, mostly for the better it seems. One thing that hasn't is their Scotch egg. Having a Scotch egg there is a tradition for me. Great place for some drinks and food. Also a fun bar that is still connected to the one next door (go to the back by the restrooms). Cons: We tried the marrow sometime in 2019 and it was mostly bone. We haven't tried it again so can't say much with such a small sample size. Overall, a place you should check out if you have not yet.
