The best thing I did in Columbus. Delightful little dive bar with a cool history.

Birko (day guy) and Dylan (night guy) are awesome! Definitely if you're looking for a neighborhood type joint this is the place to go. I don't think they serve food though just in fyi. Will totally hot this place up when I go back for another hockey game!

Grab your bros and hit up Char Bar. First of all, I love the classic vibe and the fact that they have a back patio. This place deals out great drinks but be careful taking down too many of those long islands. The bathroom is down in the basement which makes for an interesting slightly drunken stumble around and a spooky brick basement spelunking once you break the seal. Overall the price is right and I have no complaints. You fee welcome but also don’t find the need to dress it up at Char Bar. Major points for their CBUS authenticity and sticking to their guns on not selling out to the corporate landings building up in their immediate vicinity.

This is THE place to drink in downtown Columbus. We visit everytime we go. Me and the Mrs get completely sh!t faced and are hard pressed to spend more than $20-$25. The whiskey is poured to near the rim of the glass and the mixed drinks are not shy on spirits. This one is an A+ for a night out drinking and bullsh!ting with folk.

It's a great local spot to chill and meet some people. It's usually busy on Saturdays and can be hard to find a table. The staff seems friendly to people of color and the drinks are good! If you're looking for a quick place to stop and drink one this is the place for you.

Honestly, ridiculous bar right next to the convention center. If you’re here for a volleyball tournament or anything else I promise, you cannot do any better than this bar! Staff is amazing and the drinks are…so nice. If you’re here, don’t waste your time spending $25 a drink anywhere else and get yourself here for drinks, darts and billiards!

All roads lead here. You’ll find all kind of people here. Two wedding parties, Ohio state fans, Blue Jacket Fans, Crew fans and all else. Great spot with good reasonable drinks and a quality Long Island. Would recommend. For entertainment, besides playing pool and darts, it’s fun to play the haunted piano in the basement to strike fear into the hears of unsuspecting bathroom users. Great place.

We've been coming here for years just for the famous Long Islands. Cool Grunge bar vibe and a jukebox and pool table makes for a fun spot. One long island gets you feeling good Two long islands gets you feeling very good

We left a credit Card by accident after only having one beer. In the morning we were charged 75 bucks on the card, and when asked about it the bartender told us that 12 drinks were rung on the tab, and refused to give us a managers Name or phone number to help get this settled. Then told us this happens ",All the time it's how bars work". Do NOT recommend going here, shady business practices.

Good prices on drinks and the place is a pretty good dive bar, albeit the service is a bit hit or miss. First drink order was quick the next ones took forever. Still probably one of the best five bars in columbus

Enjoyed the vibe of this place after the Crew game. The bartenders were great and we got served quickly and efficiently. Prices were beyond reasonable.

First visit. 10 of us met there for drinks to celebrate a birthday. Lots of fun patrons playing darts and pool. The $12 Long Island Ice Tea was generous, potent and tasty. Music and bar chatter a bit loud, hard to have a conversation, not unexpected though. I give it a thumbs-up 👍

Great hole in the wall bar with some history. Pro tip (I don't order them anywhere else). Order a long island iced tea.

Met a bartender Jared ONCE, came back a different night and he remembered my order. Very friendly+hospitable staff! Good crowd with a solid sense of community here! Good stuff:)

This place is so damn cool, I can’t believe it. It’s chill, the music is chill, the vibe of the locals that come is rad too. Cheap drinks, and good service. 5 stars all around

Amazing, fun times at the Char Bar. Even got to meet the owners who were fantastic people. Seriously such a fun bar!

You've got to go to the Char! People are nice and the staff is phenomenal. Centrally located. It's 100% haunted, but the ghosts are nice too. 👌

Great small bar known for their extra strong long islands. I would HIGHLY recommend getting one... but just one.

The Long Island Ice Tea is a must have if you visit here. I didn't get it last time. The first few times I came here I saw my old crush from high school. We talked a bit but then haven't really seen her since. Hoping she's doing well. Also the bartenders are great.

One of my fave bars. The service is good and consistent, the crowd mature and a nice mix, and there aren't drug deals happening in plain sight like at other places.

Dive bar - good service and drink prices. Creepy restroom location, in the basement with a broken piano. I wouldn’t go down there alone.

Nice home town dive bar with plenty to do. They have sports, billiards, darts, a patio, or quiter areas to drink. The prices for drinks are pretty good. History of the building itself is not only shown in the decor but the architecture style itself, makes it a very unique place to spend time.

Messed up our drinks a few times, but the staff was friendly. They have a pay to play jukebox, so you can play Rick Astley 10 times in a row if you want.

I heard from 3 different people that the long Island ice teas were not good because they were not made with the correct ingredients. I did not have any so I cannot say. Place was fine. There is so much bar competition in the area, it's hard for this place to stand out. I do like to play pool, so I will be back.

Old, dark and a dive bar. But this is what makes it great! Patio is kind of boring, definitely could be more interesting.

Great little dive bar with a pool table and juke box. Bartender was great as well.

Little hole in the wall bar… been a few time but never had a bad time.

Unique bar downtown. Parking can be a pain but there are garages nearby. Uncovered back deck allows smoking. Pool table and a dart board if I remember correctly. Bathrooms are downstairs so it's not exactly handicapped accessible, but the street level is accesible.

This dive bar has a charmingly grungy atmosphere with cheap drinks and a jukebox. Not the cleanest joint, but perfect for a laid-back night out.

Good bar. Good beer selection (glass and can). Pool table. Darts. Music is not very loud, so it is a good place to have a beer and talk.

Zak is one of the best bartenders in Columbus. Makes your visit worthwhile

This bar has the bartenders you need not the ones you deserve. I was there on a Sunday night drinking Long Islands. Last call was in a half hour, I tried to order one more Long Island and the bar tender said “you don’t need any more Long Islands” and gave me a bud light instead. I ended waking up the next day with no hangover. I learned that night not all angels have wings.

Love this bar and the history behind it!! The Long Island ice teas are the best in Columbus. Everyone is friendly, and we ALWAYS have a great time!!!

It's got a nice little bit of a night life and it's one of the few places in the downtown area that is open after 8:00

  • 5/5 Danny S. 1 year ago on Google
Such a great atmosphere! And the two bar tenders were amazing guys. The owners are an older couple and their ability to keep an antique NCR (National Cash Register) still operational is amazing. So good to see my grandfather's old company represented since he worked for NCR back in the day!!!
