If you didn't find this place from a review or a recommendation, I'd almost guarantee you'd never go inside. It looks way more intimidating than it really is. The people were great and the food was awesome. The atmosphere felt relaxed and friendly. Would recommend!

We searched Google for a good place for dinner, read reviews. checked the hours of operation and drove over from 20 miles away through rush hour traffic, specifically to try Tip Top Kitchen, paid for parking and walked a block to find a closed for maintenance sign on the door. I understand situations beyond our control but if you make time to post a sign on the door, make time to update your Google hours for the day. We were very disappointed.

I started with the corn chowder which, for me, was a tad spicy, but I like things really spicy. A corn chowder was very well dressed, meaning they top it with things such as green onions, some crispy things, some cheese. So my mouth exploded with tasty goodness and fabulous textures. Wow! This was amazing. I followed this up with beef stroganoff. I think this might be the best beef stroganoff I've ever had in a restaurant. There was some sour cream on the side to mix in, which is something I really like. They had topped it with fork tender roast beef. They reduced the sauce with wine of and I could very mildly taste the residual of that, which is not my favorite, which means I don't do it when I make it myself. That said, I would absolutely order this again and strongly recommend it. Surprisingly, this is an RC shop, that means I got RC cola as opposed to cope with Pepsi. So two thumbs up there. I asked about gluten free things and they have gluten-free bread so they can make most of their sandwiches gluten free. They also have gluten-free entrees. My server was Matthew and he took a lot of time to explain the menu items to me. I would surely ask for him again. At this time, 3/25/2023, they don't have desserts because they're dessert. Maker retired, but expect them soon. So don't miss this place. It's worth a stop. Give it a try.

Tip Top was recommended by the hotel because it seems that most restaurants in the area are closed on Sunday. After seeing so many reviews, I ordered the pot roast and fried green beans. Both came out at the same time instead of a starter and entree. The pot roast's flavor was good but there was a lot of fat on the meat. The green beans were average for fried green beans. Good, but nothing special. When I arrived, it was really crowded with groups standing against the wall waiting for tables. I sat at the bar and the waitress was very sweet but seemed a little overwhelmed. She said they just got a new computer system and she was struggling with it. Even so, she was attentive and helpful.

Nice bar and kitchen. We got their pot roast entry, and it was definitely enough for a lunch for two. It was also happy hours, so that any Ohio beer was half the price. Good place

We arrived at 11:00pm after a long flight from California and it was one of the few places we found open and that we felt relatively safe going in, there was several customers even at that time, 1 person working behind the counter and he did well taking care of everyone, he was friendly and attentive, I ordered the fish and chips which was decent, the decor and ambient is nice and inviting.

Very good, simple food. Well priced. Staff is attentive but not at all pushy. Take your time to talk, est, and visit!

A must visit! Their food is delicious. Some of the best tomato soup I've ever had. I order that, and the grilled cheese every time now. Your food comes to your table faster than most places. Best of all, the staff are amazing. Always checking if you need anything, engaging, and provides you an excellent night out. If you're thinking about coming here, go! You won't regret it.

I wanted to rate higher. My husband and I LOVED this place a decade ago. We used to visit biweekly. Today the decor is the same but more worn. The Ohio Nachos are still delicious but about half the portion. The drinks are strong but inconsistently made. These are the drinks featured on the menu. Beer selection was pitiful on the day we went (St. Patrick's Day!). The service was very slow. So slow in fact, I didn't even think there was a server and sent to my husband to the bar to get drinks. Still has a nice location and a small outside patio.

I didn't really know what to expect going into this place. It is a dimly lit old old room. The wait staff were very good. The drinks were quite good as well. We didn't expect much from the food but were pleasantly surprised. I thought the food was outstanding. Thanks for a great start to our weekend.

Great night spot for getting some food and drinks. Got into town late and this spot was recommended by the front desk at our hotel. Service was great and Martin was knowledgeable, gave us great suggestions, and had a great personality. The food was excellent. Both my wife and I followed Martin's recommendations and were not disappointed. The chicken fried chicken was phenomenal and was a true comfort plate. Prices were great and the atmosphere was divey and down home just the way we like it. Awesome spot. Highly recommend to anyone in Columbus or traveling through like we were.

Fun little place to go for a late night bite. Waiter was friendly and service was good, especially as he seemed to be the only server and was also running the bar. Food quality was mixed: My partner got pot roast sandwich and he liked it. Daughter got a hamburger which was delicious, but the side portions are small. I got the Tip Top salad and was underwhelmed. Would not order it again.

I dropped in for lunch on a Saturday with other local establishments closed. Service at the bar from Jenna was spot on. I enjoyed the open face roast beef, served on garlic toast with mashed potatoes and onions. Great comfort food and quite filling.

The awesome price and taste of cocktails makes up for the terrible food. Nearly everyone with my party of 5 hated the food. Change your menu if you want a packed house. Your drink menu and pricing is perfect.

Their menu looked pretty stellar but we didn’t get the opportunity to order anything. The bartender acknowledged us a few times but never came over to take our order. When we said we were ready to place an order, the bartender ignored us and proceeded to serve customers that came in and were seated after us. This is my third attempt to try to partake at this place and every time it’s been a negative experience. If you go, I hope your customer experience is better than ours.

Local gem. Authentic home cooking. Jovial, friendly service. So glad we visited.

The food is amazing, especially the Pot Roast dinner and the Italian Beef sandwich! Staff is always friendly and attentive and the beer is cold. May not look like much from the outside, but don't let appearances fool you. If you want a really good meal that will fill your belly and leave you feeling happy, try the Tip Top. Trust me, you'll be planning your next trip before you even leave the building!

The service was terrible! Our waitress forgot half of the meal that we ordered she wasn’t attentive at all!! We requested our food be taken off our tabs because the food wasn’t what we expected and the waitress got upset and just told “you can just leave” and shrugs at us and we do so. As we were leaving the waitress says “I’m tired of people using me” and claims that statement wasn’t directed towards us, even after telling us to leave she follows us to the door and watches us get in the car and waves at us. I can only assume she did that to mock us. Another baffling thing the waitress did was serving already intoxicated customers and letting them drive home not only is that endangering them it’s endangering all the other drivers on the road. Overall the experience was horrible and I will never return and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Good prices, good drinks, good service. Classic, old-timey bar with limited table seating. I will need to stop here for dinner next time!

If I could give this restaurant a zero in all categories I would. My daughter and her friends went to this restaurant yesterday, not only was the food nasty and cold, they were served by a racist "Karen". She was rude and lazy servng the four of them one plate at time. She even went as far as to follow them out to their car. Unacceptable. It was such a negative experience for them I had to drive from Cincinnati to see for myself. It's a nasty dump and I refused to go in to eat to even see what all the bias was about. I'm surprised this place is still in business and Covid19 didn't consume it. Maybe if they receive enough customers complaints, bad reviews, and failed quality inspections maybe this time next year this disgusting dump with its racist patrons will be a thing of the past.

Though short staffed like so many other food establishments, the husband and wife who waited on us were great. I had the beef stroganoff, and the beef was absolutely exquisite. They also made me a nice mocktail. You can dine on the patio if the weather is nice, or inside. The prices are very affordable for the quality, the location, and the amount.

I love a dive bar. I love a bartender that’s friendly and enjoys chatting. I found both at Tip Top. Reasonably priced food and drinks, and a great “sit and have a few with your friends, even if your actual friends aren’t there” atmosphere. I’ll definitely come back on my next trip to Columbus!

A nice unassuming bar/restaurant in downtown Columbus. They're open until 11pm weeknights and make for a great late meal. There are lots of sandwiches on the menu, a few salads and appetizers. The food came out fairly quickly. The staff was kind and accommodating. There are plenty of metered parking spaces. They do have a happy hour, 3-6, weekdays with nice specials on drinks. The televisions are in good view from most seats for game watching. The cost is relative to portions and the food tasted great. Good for a quick bite or sitting around for a while. Great for friends, a seasoned couple or solo.

Found this bar while on vacation. Had an enjoyable two sessions here, staff are very friendly and fellow patrons were fun. It is not pretentious, just a good bar where you can enjoy a bourbon or five!!

Meh. Food was below average at best, chicken was chewy. Beer was cheap. Bathrooms needed a serious cleaning, even the pictures on the walls are full of dust. Won't be back.

I love a good dive bar ... if you're looking for a "good" dive bar, keep looking. My friend and I were in town for a comedian, we thought after show it's Friday night we'll have a nightcap and happened upon TipTop. Everything seemed to have a layer of last cleaned during the Clinton administration grime and the staff is rude. Being from out of town (their location across the street from out hotel seemed like maybe they'd be familiar with and welcoming towards out of town guests) we don't know any establishments hours and I guess they'd just announced last call (at midnight) so we got one to finish and leave. While enjoying our cocktail I asked a bartender what was up with bars closing early on Friday nights in Columbus? to which she rudely responded with " I don't know what to tell you, this is how it is " .... I realize that you greasy, space bun wearing, overgrown toddler. I inquired if there was a reason (this is how it's been post covid) or explanation, (High St is where all the late bars are) not to be made to feel like someone who interrupted a teacher to ask why is the sky blue. If you aren't a regular here, it doesnt seem you're welcome. Save yourself some time irritation and go elsewhere. Had a great last experience semi recently at Local Cantina, I'd recommend trying there first! PS I was a restaurant GM for 10 years, not an entitled person, this was some bottom of the barrel nonsense like I've seldom seen.

This place deserves 0 stars. I went to Tip Top today while I waited to get my haircut. A homeless gentlemen asked me for change on the street, I asked him how about a meal instead? I had him come with me inside of tip top. The bartender that was working was an older gentlemen. Not sure what his name was. Anyhow, he was so disrespectful to the homeless guy that it was disgusting. I told the guy he could order whatever he wanted, he lunch and a beer. They served him. He asked me if he could get another beer and I told him yes. The bartender came to me and said that he’s cutting the homeless man off because he’s HOMELESS! This is not how business should be conducted. Anyone can hit hard times. We are all still humans and should be respected as such!

First time and it was a great find. Just had cheese curds and cocktails per theater. All was excellent and the server was wonderful. Already planning dinner there after the next play in January.

We had the pot roast and the open turkey sandwich. We can't wait to go back again. Service was fast and friendly. Cool old school bar room vibe on one side and booths on the other.

Food is pretty solid, can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu. I also Appreciate that, whenever I dine in, they have really attentive patio service.

My beef Stroganoff was slightly too salty but the staff was GREAT! They were very attentive and on the ball. We were a large group that kept moving around and they found a way to accommodate us all. Matthew was only one but since I know his name I will give him a shout out. Great job!!!

Enjoyed an overall great meal here. The dirty martini was stellar. I had the chicken fried chicken and my husband had the pot roast. Food was delicious though my mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. He said the pot roast was tasty but slightly bland. Upon arriving, there was no hostess so we had to find someone to inquire about a table. We were seated quickly despite how busy it was. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We would definitely come again! I think it's a hidden gem in Columbus.

The pot roast here is fantastic. Also, the broccoli and cheese. It's melted fondue cheese with steamed broccoli... Prices are fantastic. It's a quiet, darker, low key place through the week. Upbeat, lively, mood lighting bar and restaurant on the weekends.

Went for the first time last night, food was absolutely delicious + unique and service was friendly! They seem to have great happy hour specials so I'll be back for that. Love that they're open late too.

Nice little eatery. Bucky's bites and fried green beans were amazing! Garbage mac was better than expected. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend

It's hard to decide how to rate this place. I'm giving it a 2 based on overall service. We ordered fried green beans, tomato soup and the herbed goat cheese salad with chicken. They weren't delivered in the correct order. The food was tasty. Our server, however, was very rude. While she was taking our drink order, she got impatient and said "I'll just go get you some waters" and walked away. Later, she mentioned that she had been working for 14 hours straight (and we were there at 6:30p, so that didn't make sense) and apparently, that was supposed to justify how annoyed she was by every interaction we had with her. It wasn't just us. She treated her other customers like this as well. Regardless of how good the food is, this is enough to deter a repeat visit. I completely understand having a bad day can affect someone, especially dealing with customers. BUT, put your game face on for the very few minutes you have with your customers and earn your tip. I likely will not return based on this experience.

The pot roast was great. Better than moms! Service was good. Run like and old school campus dive bar but upscale in some way. Clientele was middle aged office workers the lunch hour I was there.

From out of state and was looking for something not too far from the Hyatt, where we were staying . Let me just say I added Yip Top to my favorites list I will be sure to come back. My drinks were tastefully mixed to perfection (the lions den) and food was above expectations delicious! Both staff members that I had encounters with were both smiling, welcoming friendly and attentive. If I were a local this would definitely be a regular go to. Oh and did I mention it did not break the bank!

The service was fine and the food was decent. I honestly heard such great things and thought it was totally overrated. Maybe it's just me! Haha go try for yourself and see. The fish and chips is pretty good.
