Really enjoyed the food here. Very busy place, had a 30 minute wait for a table. Service was good, our server was very attentive. The original cream puff was big and tasty. I had the Bahama Mama original, it was great! The German potato salad was a pleasant surprise. Worth checking out along with the area around the restaurant. You will not go home hungry. And the mustard on the table was on point.

Such a great time. The atmosphere is super fun, the food is tasty and reasonably priced and the service is great. For starters, I highly recommend the sauerkraut bratwurst balls and the famous pretzel nuggets. For dinner, I ordered the weiner schnitzel and my wife got the Bavarian cabbage rolls. Both dinner portions was plenty and wound up taking some leftovers home. If you want to experience authentic German home-style food and drinks served with a side of “Old World' charm give Schmidt's a try. You won't be disappointed.

Fabulous restaurant and was great for our group gathering! The party room where the wedding reception is on the second floor and is beautiful! Very delicious buffet style dinner with their signature sausages and cream puffs. The food was perfect! Plenty of room for our group and the staff was absolutely tremendous! Very friendly and helpful! The main restaurant on the first floor is great as well. Everything was very clean and well run. An A+ establishment all around!

I hadn't been here in 7 years. My husband and I met up with family and it was wonderful! We got there early because we knew there would be a wait. We had a party of 8 and our table was ready in about 40 minutes. They could not seat us until the entire party was there, so the timing was off and we waited. Once everyone arrived, we waited maybe 5 more minutes and got a table. Service was amazing, and the waitress was patient with us. The musicians showed up, set up beside us, and we had so much fun! My mom sang along with many of the German songs, and the whole place joined in others... It was very memorable. The food! It was just as good as I remembered! Of course, I had to get the infamous cream puff 😊 A must do when in Columbus if looking for a great German atmosphere, food, drinks, and fun.

Went here to try the cream puffs and I'd say they were very good. The cream filling was outstanding but the puff part was a touch underwhelming to me. It wasn't bad and maybe my expectations were high based on the reviews but I expected it to be a bit more flavorful and slightly crisper. I would definitely eat one again and can see why people recommend, just providing my opinion.

This location is Amazing, love the food and the overall feel of the restaurant. Great selections of food and beers perfect to satisfy all. I highly recommend this place and think you will love it as much as I did. Situated in the heart of the Columbus German Village there is so much to see and do while in the area with lots of shopping and of course food. Come check this place out, you will not be disappointed!!!

One of my favorite places in the entire US. Every time I travel to Columbus, I bring my coworkers here. Never disappoints! The service is always impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious. Got a sausage sampler and a snitzel this time. Plenty of beer, wonderful entertainment and a unique environment. Great family restaurant! Come out and support your local businesses and avoid the chains. I highly recommend this place!

Always look forward to an opportunity to enjoy Schmidt's Sausage Haus in German Village. Great traditional German cuisine prepared well and seasoned just right. The biggest problem is what to choose off of a jam packed menu. So many items that it is truly hard to pick! Well done to the owners and staff at Schmidt's Sausage Haus!!! Another memorable meal in a local gem. KUDOS!!!

I've had Schmidt's food several times before but today was the first time I actually got to sit down and eat there. The outside of the restaurant is super cute and the inside gives you that authentic German feel with the decor, exposed brick, and signage/pictures. The hostesses and waitresses wear dirndls (German dresses) which are adorable and keep the German atmosphere. There is a nice variety of food choices and you are obligated to get a cream puff if you've never had one! 😋 These things are the size of your face. Overall, the restaurant is kinda small so I'd recommend calling ahead if you have a large group (5+ people) and they do have pies (whole and pieces) and other food items ready for purchase to go by the register.

Since the late 1880’s Schmidt’s has been a mainstay in German Village. The food is consistent. Many German beers on tap and served in large steins. We started with the sauerkraut balls and mustard which is a huge treat any time. I had the sauerbraten over noodles with the potato pancakes and red cabbage. I love red cabbage and could make a meal of only red cabbage. The sauerbraten was great and the noodles are a little thicker that Italian noodles. Finishing up with the chocolate cream puff, split in thirds the meal was complete. There are sausages and other sides you can take to go along with t-shirts and steins. If you’ve never been to Columbus, I highly recommend a trip here.

A warm and inviting environment for this blistering cold winter day in Ohio. It was nestled in the cutest area with little shops and what looked to be original brick roadways. Such a great find! The food was delicious and comforting like a warm embrace from grandma as you thank her for cooking the Sunday family meal. The sauerkraut and bratwurst balls were delicious! Paired with a creamy mustard, it was the great way to start the meal and it came out fast too! They were very lightly breaded and didn’t leave a greasy feeling like most fried foods do. I tried the hunter schnitzel. The mushroom gravy was savory and delicious complimenting the thinly breaded pork lion. The German potato salad was flavorful and not too vinegary like ones I have had in the past. The red cabbage was tender, sweet, warm and had the right amount of vinegar. Be careful not to inhale as you take your first bite (speaking from experience) the vinegar will hit the back of your throat. The red cabbage compliments the schnitzel very well with the vinegar cutting what would otherwise be a food coma inducing dish. There was even room for cream puffs!( which 6 people shared) The cream puffs were very light and refreshing. My favorite was the coffee! It was the perfect thing to end the meal with.

We stopped to have a few drinks before our dinner reservation. It was a very cool authentic German establishment. The decor and atmosphere make you want to stay for hours and just hangout. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We got a growler and a craft beer to go!

My parents have been trying to make it to Schmidt’s for a very long time however, due to how crazy busy they get, we have had no success. Recently, we returned to Columbus for a concert and we finally got around to eating at Schmidt’s. Here’s how it went: We arrived shortly after they opened (Friday 2/17) and they weren’t busy so we immediately got a table. Our waiter got to us really quick and got our drink orders. He was SUPER friendly and energetic, ready to give us recommendations if we wanted them. We got the pretzel nuggets as an appetizer and I gotta say: I’ve had so many pretzels lately, but these have to be some of the better ones I’ve had in a while! Super crispy, salted perfectly, and the beer cheese was great too! As my entree, I got the Flat Brat (basically a brat burger) with waffle fries. What are my thoughts? It was good. The pretzel bun was soft and tasty, the burger itself was decent. The waffle fries were amazing! Fried to perfection and overall were fresh! Overall, I’d say that the food lives up to the hype. If I make it to Columbus, I’ll hopefully make another visit here and you should too! (That is if you can get a table successfully, haha)

This place is amazing! It makes you feel like you're in Germany. The food was EXCELLENT! The staff was extremely nice. It's not only a restaurant but you can buy all of their homemade sausages to take home and cook them yourself! If you're in German Village, definitely stop here if you want delicious, authentic German food!!!

Delicious. There was a 20 minute waiting list so I sat at the bar. No wait. Bartender Adam was great and recommended the Bahama Mama sandwich. It was great! Tasty, not fatty tasting, with a side of German potatoes that were the perfect amount of sour. Not too much...and tasted great! Im glad I checked the review rating before coming. Pretty accurate.

Good quality food. However, the German potato salad is warm, not cold like every other potato salad I've had. I'm assuming it's supposed to be this way, but I prefer mine cold. I think cold would have been a better compliment to the hot meats we had. Place gets really busy so prepare to wait and come early. There are 2 parking lots available which get full, but should be adequate for a full house.

Happened upon this adorably authentic German restaurant while meandering through the German Village neighborhood of Columbus. We chose the sausage sampler platter which we shared and OMG, it was plenty of food for lunchtime. 4 different sausages, warm German potato salad, sauerkraut, a soft pan fried, butter bun were all delicious! ❤️ Would go back in a heart beat. You can also buy fresh made uncooked sausages to go.

This was out of my comfort zone but I'm glad we stopped in! I wasn't a big fan of my dinner but I will definitely be back for what my husband had!!! He got the cabbage roll and seriously this was amazing. The kids got pie and my husband got a cream puff they both loved it. I love the vibes in the place, super fun. The pretzel appetizer was yummy too. It's worth a try for sure!

We held our rehearsal dinner in the upstairs event space of Schmidt’s. This was one of the coolest venues of our entire wedding weekend! There is a private bar, along with a large dining room which could have accommodated up to 120 people (we had about 50). The food was amazing as usual, with a lot of choice for the buffet (we had salad, three entrees, all the traditional sides, rolls, and mini cream puffs!). We would even accommodate two guests who don’t eat pork (which you’d think would be hard with German food!) We had the space to ourselves and it was perfect for visiting with the wedding party as everyone arrived for the weekend. The staff were all so friendly. We worked with Matt, who was super responsive and helpful (even when we had to postpone our date a year due to COVID). It was such a lovely evening, and we would highly recommend for both food and events!

There's parking besides the restaurant but come early as I can guess it gets full quickly. A restaurant straight from the Gilded age! If you're in Columbus or just passing by, the German village in Columbus is home to many really great restaurants, this one is probably one of the oldest to date that I've had the pleasure of trying. The service is great, the food is just priced right for the serving size. This is a must visit place even just for the experience. Their cream puffs are really good as it's not too sweet!

Dear Schmidt's management, I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for Trey, the manager of your restaurant. I have been a regular customer of Schmidt's for many years, and I have always been impressed with the level of service and hospitality that I have received. Trey is a big part of that. Trey is always friendly and welcoming, and he goes above and beyond to make sure that my experience is a positive one. He is always quick to recommend dishes that I might enjoy, and he is always happy to answer any questions that I have. He also has a great sense of humor, and he always makes me feel like I am part of the Schmidt's family. I have seen Trey in action on many occasions, and I am always impressed with his ability to manage the restaurant smoothly and efficiently. He is always calm and collected, even when things are busy. He is also a great team player, and he always makes sure that his staff is happy and productive. I am confident that Trey is a valuable asset to Schmidt's, and I highly recommend him for any management position. He is a hard worker, he is dedicated to his job, and he is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that his customers are happy. Sincerely, George & Terri Ogden

We had a great time at Schmidt’s! The atmosphere is fun with the vintage decor and photographs. The sauerkraut and bratwurst balls were the best thing we ate. While the portions were good sized (I ordered the Bahama Mama which is the name of their signature sausage), the food just wasn’t great. The bun for my sausage was mushy from the sauerkraut on the plate, so I didn’t eat about half of it. My wife My wife and I each enjoyed a German beer, but the overall service was average. Our waitress did fine, but she was kind of blah. The food was fine, it just wasn’t amazing enough to give five stars. Loved the atmosphere and the neighborhood though.

Service, excellent five Stars just for the service. Food great, but have never tried real German food so do not know how to compare, but really good to just eat. Beer was also great. But is there really a bad beer?

Wanted to see what the 10k reviews were all about. Had the curry wurst appetizer. The sauce was too potent to my liking and I hail from the "land of curry". Picked the sausage sampler for entree. The kraut was too briny. The sausages were all good. Their toffee flavored cream puff was delicious. Was light and airy and not too sweet. Will go for a dine in experience next time.

AMAZING food!!! Extremely authentic. Sausage platter is a must if you want to try all the different sausages they have. The wiener schnitzel was our favourite though. We were stuffed at the end Service was excellent too, and they play live music every day!!! A must try when you’re in Columbus! They also sell their sausages and desserts to take home.

An awesome place! Fun atmosphere with great food, awesome menu & super friendly & helpful service. I had the Old World Sausage Sampler, came with 4 different sausages. All very tasty, my favorite may have been the spicy option. Came with great tasting kraut, German potato salad, apple sauce and a split bun. All very good. My wife had the Mama Reuben sandwich, she loved it. All of the ingredients blending well and complimenting each other made for one of the best tasting sandwiches. Don't hesitate visiting the place and bring an appetite!

We were on our way home from a business trip and Schmidt's came highly recommended. It did not disappoint! We ordered the Schmidt's Famous Pretzel Nuggets app with beer cheese. The pretzel nuggets had a nice crispy outside and soft center. We both opted for the Old World Sausage Sampler and upcharged it to all you can eat. There was so much food we couldn't even eat a second round of sausage. All the desserts looked amazing but since we filled up on the app and meal we skipped dessert. Would def not pass up another opportunity to eat here.

We arrived with a group of 20 on a Saturday evening. We had a little over an hour wait, which wasn't bad at all considering how many of us there were. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! This was our first time going to a German restaurant, and it did not disappoint. The pretzel nuggets were really good, and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The gravy on the weiner schnitzel was probably the best gravy I've had. You must go here if in the Columbus area.

This place was an easy 5*. Really old school homey feel to it, great food that comes out fast and great service. The potato soup was awesome! Didnt even need any salt and pepper. The sausage platter was fantastic and only 18$ and for 2$ more you can make it endless. The potato salad was really good too. We tried the cream puff and a banana pie which were both amazing! I cant wait to bring some more friends here!

This place is simply iconic. I'm not much for German food, but I do like sausages and pretzels and so I can get by here. The food is great, the crowd on a Saturday was insane. However, they have a texting notification so our 75 minute wait for a table was spent at the book loft down the street

Literally, the best German food I have ever had, anywhere. We were here for dinner on a weeknight last month and the restaurant was packed. The bar had open seating, so that was our spot for the night instead. Very glad we made that choice, as the Bartender was awesome! Super friendly, funny, and never missed a beat. He offered suggestions and answered any questions we had too. You have to try the pretzel nuggets with beer cheese! A perfect start to the meal. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and actually loved dipping it in both the leftover beer cheese and their mustard. I also had the potato pancakes with applesauce and spaetzle (should have ordered the ones with green beans as the hubby did). I literally ate everything - and still had dessert. Hubby ordered Oma's meatloaf; literally not a bite left when he was done. Definitely leave room for dessert. A fellow diner ordered the apple strudel and I had to have my own. Absolutely worth it. Amazing food, great service, and such an authentic atmosphere (there was an Oompah band starting to play when we left). If you love German food, this place is a must.

Food reminds me of nursing home food. Beef was funky on the Haus Saurbraten. The noodle dish tastes like barbeque sauce. Sauerkraut-bratwurst Balls were good but there was little to no pork in it. Here's the description from the menu for the balls: "A German Tradition! Sauerkraut and Schmidt’s own Bratwurst combination coated with crispy breading served with creamy mustard sauce." There was no bratwurst in those fried bratwurst balls. I liked them anyways but it the description was misleading. I did order dinner menu items around 1pm so if that's an issue, I'll try again ordering dinner items at dinner time instead. **edited and added menu items.

Schmidt's has what you want! Great food, truly great. It is one of those places you can just randomly pick something off of the menu and enjoy what you get. You can get lost in the portions they serve and next thing you know you struggling to find room for a cream puff or German chocolate cake! Make sure you add this to your places to eat in Ohio!

  • 5/5 Gretchen E. 1 year ago on Google
The food was so, so good. I highly recommend the stew. And the cabbage rolls were fantastic! Portions are really generous, so while I hear the appetizers are a must, we passed and still had too much food. It is a wait to get in, like over an hour, but the German village neighborhood is walk friendly and there is a little block of shops to entertain you for a while. (these close around 6, so if you want to get candy or gift things, go early) Efficient service from friendly staff. Nicely stocked carry out area with sausages and sides to go, as well as cream puffs that are about the size of your head -seriously- in case you don't have room for dessert. If you're interested in something different while in Columbus: this could be your spot!

I hadn’t been here in over 20 years but I brought my daughter tonight and it was just like I remembered. The food and atmosphere was amazing. Our waitress was wonderful at helping us with the drink and food menu. Dessert was the cream puffs and the German coffee which paired great together! We were so excited to walk around the village that I had forgotten my credit card and the host rushed out to catch us! Wonderful service and we can’t wait to come back and try something different on the menu.

Amazing German food! My wife hot the Sausage Sampler platter and loved it, while I got their Reuben, which was easily one of the best I've ever had: perfect proportions of sauerkraut-to-dressing-to-corned beef! Not too dry or too soggy as can happen at other places. We both got the German potato salad, a first for us, and both loved it. Afterwards, we split an Apple Streudel, and loved it. We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in Columbus!

20220718 on my way to KY, couldn't resist and came by for desserts!! 20220624 I ate here several years ago and couldn't stop thinking about their cream puffs. I ate 2 last time, and I bought 3 today along with a large box of buckeyes. The service was great! I couldn't wait, and ate 1 of the cream puffs in my car in their parking lot. The breaded part was a bit dry and hard, and I prefer soft and fluffy. Probably it's not freshly made today. The cream is delicious as expected. One of my dogs loved the cream. She will be helping me eat the other 2. 😋

Always a great experience! I stop in whenever I fly to Columbus. I love the pretzel nuggets and any of their sausages, especially the Bahama Mama and Brats! My only criticism is that portions are too big to enjoy by yourself! Would love to see half portions of apps and entrees. I never have room left for a cream puff!

I'll second another review I saw, this restaurant is totally different from anything I'd usually pick. Very, very worth it & extremely satisfied with the decision. The staff was friendly and attentive. Everything we ordered - entree, side, and dessert is made to a high standard and it shows. And tastes. I'd come back here in a heartbeat if I wasn't leaving town tomorrow. Had the sausage sampler, there's an option for "bottomless" which was great because their Bahama Mama's were amazing. Their mustard and horseradish, made in house, are easily the best I've had. In fact, everything is made in-house & SUPERB. We don't even normally get dessert but the food was so good we ordered a peach cream puff and German chocolate cake to go - same story. Divine!

My first time trying authentic German food and I was blown away. Everything was so delicious, prices were reasonable. The food was freshly cooked. They have a nice variety for beer selection at reasonable prices too. Even the coffee was delicious. The wait time was less than what they had estimated but be ready to wait around 30-45 mins when you arrive. They have parking but it fills up quickly.

Honestly is been a long time I’ve felt I was at a genuinely good restaurant. This made me feel like I was right in Germany! The service is really quick considering the volume of people they are dealing with. The food was simple and fantastic. Keeping it very traditional. I’d recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for something authentic.

What a great time. This is in a little German community, with cute old houses. I went with a group of people and we were seated within 5 minutes of getting there. We got the pretzel nuggets with beer cheese and tangy mustard, I didn't get a picture, because they didn't last longer than a few seconds. I ordered the sausage sampler and it was great. We also had to get the famous cream puff dessert and good lord that thing was wonderful! If I'm in this area again I will be stopping by!

The restaurant offers a very neat once in a lifetime experience, from the esthetic of the building to the unique shops surrounding this restaurant. I loved the wonderful bratwurst plate as well the beer options. It was hard to choose what to go with as their menu offered so much. While I didn't have a bad experience at this restaurant and our service was exceptional, I could not say it was all worth the wait time or that I would go to this restaurant again. I'm glad that I did go once and got to experience it!

Food was more unique than other places which I really enjoyed. Staff were all very friendly that we encountered. We went as soon as it opened and within 30 mins the place was full. The pretzel nuggets were some of the best I’ve ever had kind of like if a funnel cake and a pretzel had a baby. Would recommend to everyone.

Great food and very reasonable prices. We had the chocolate peanut cream puff for dessert because it was a must, but we were so full from our AYCE sausage plate! The pictures don't do the food enough justice. As tourists in town for a wedding, we found out about this place from a "things to do" magazine at our hotel. It's a shame I don't think I'll ever be back in Columbus but if I ever return, I'll be back to try everything else on the menu! Lots of families and groups there when we went.

Food was soooo good, lots of authentic options and portions are good. We got the pretzel bites with beer cheese (10/10 would recommend!) I had the knockwurst and my husband got the sausage sampler platter. We also got the flavor of the month cream puff which was cookies and cream, and it is easily the best cream puff I’ve had! We went during a pretty busy time, lunch on a Sunday, and were seated within 15 minutes. Staff was really nice too.

This. Is. The. Spot. Seriously I'd drive back to Columbus from Chicago just to go here. The ham and cheese pretzel sandwich was the best I've ever had and the sausage sampler plate is out of this world. Kraut, german potato salad, and homemade applesauce with a sprinkle of cinnamon on the top as sides. The warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream, just perfection. Ran by 5 generations of the same family since the 1800s they know what they're doing and I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

Amazing! Highly recommend, will return again! We had the sausage sampler and hubby had the beer sampler. Service was outstanding! If you don't want to wait long for a table, try sitting at the bar. Lorenzo was incredible! We got the pretzel bites to go, they were SO FREAKING GOOD!

Party of five for lunch, at 11:00, when they opened. Be prepared when you go, there was a line to get in, even then - but to be fair, it is a Saturday. My husband ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, our granddaughter ordered the Chicken Griller with waffle fries and I ordered the Traditional Corner Beef Reuben. Our granddaughter (16 yo) really liked the chicken sandwich and fries with honey mustard. My Reuben was good, the corned beef was lean and the bread did not come out soggy - always a plus. My husband said the Wiener schnitzel was very tough; it was difficult to cut and chew and ate less than half. He ordered the German potato salad and sweet kraut, he liked the potato salad but the sweet kraut just wasn’t his thing… Our friends ordered the Sausage Sampler Platter and the Haus Sauerbraten. They enjoyed both. I tasted my friend’s order of Sauerbraten, it was very tender. We ordered desserts to go, cream puff, apple strudel, chocolate pie and German Chocolate cake, which all traveled well and made it home to be enjoyed. The portions were large and filling - hence taking our desserts to go. Parking is an issue, if you need to park close; there are a few directly in front of the restaurant, street parking around the building in various places and at least one full parking lot behind the building- with a sign that says to lock your car and do not leave valuables… sounds reasonable and seems like common sense to me. The brick roadway, and entrance to the building, while beautiful and charming, was problematic for our friends (one senior in a “boot” from surgery and one senior walking with a staff) and for my husband (40-something year old) who was also in a boot. If you have the option, you may wish to drop the person(s)at the door; if not just take it slow and watch your step. Overall, it was a good experience but I would definitely try something different if we go again.

This is an amazing place situated right in the heart of the German Village located here in Columbus. Great selection of food and beers to meet your German Taste Buds. The main dishes are amazing, so full of flavor! The Brewmasters fish sandwich was so good and the Chicken Schnitzel was out of this world!!! We did the cream puff for desert, such an amazing ending to a great Meal. Make sure you visit the German Village when your in Columbus, shop and look around then sit down for an amazing meal at the Sausage Haus, you will not be disappointed!!!
