This Park is really lovely. Some of the best things about this park besides the artwork, is all of the plentiful seating. You can tell that this park is well taken care of there is very little garbage and the topiary pieces are all very well maintained. I'm so glad I was able to visit today! Dogs are welcome and everyone seems to pick up after them. It's quiet (with exception of the nearby construction) and there are lovely birds! Street parking near each entrance! There are also informational plaques and a small shop!

Topiary Garden Park, the only public park of its kind, not only in Ohio, but in the world as well. The Topiary Garden is a living recreation of Georges Seurat's famous post-Impressionist painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of LaGrande Jatte. Situated in downtown Discovery District, the Topiary Garden Park sits on the remnants of the Old Deaf School Park. Though it has become affectionately known as the Topiary Garden Park, the park land actually dates back to the early 19th century, when it was a dormitory and campus for the adjacent Deaf School. This is an absolutely beautiful place to stumble across during our road trip. We always keep our eyes open for cool places and this one takes the cake! Greenery, flowers, pond…can’t get any more beautiful! Specifically cool for a lover of art. Highly recommend!

This is a cool thing to see if you're in the area but it's not enough for a special trip to visit. It's beautiful but a bit boring & there aren't paths leading to the topiary displays. Great park to walk if you live or work nearby though.

Beautiful and peaceful. Love to come here and relax. And as a added bonus, it is connected to the Main Library. Helpful tip, park in the library underground garage and walk out from the main floor of the library. Just lovely.

Have known about this place for years. Finally made it down to see it today. The park is good size with plenty of picnic tables. The sculptures are well done and need to see. I was just disappointed that they weren't spread out more throughout the park. They are all basically centralized. The paved path could use a little attention. And, the restrooms were closed on a busy Saturday morning/afternoon.

A beautiful, unexpected topiary park. You can sit a while and ponder the peaceful surroundings. The topiaries are exquisite, very well done, very well maintained. I am glad we included stopping here during our visit to Columbus!

It was a very beautiful and interesting park to walk through. The Topiaries are impressive. I took stars off my rating because of the amount of weed being smoked in the park and for the number of homeless camped out throughout the park.

Nice park to get away. Great views activities that go on throughout the year even in Christmas. If you like taking pictures you can come here and take plenty of nice pictures. Even at morning at dusk and the night, even when it's raining, it's a good time to take good pictures. You can also just come read or just sit and relax and meditate. It's a good place to do that

I love the craftsmanship here but besides that, the park desperately needs some tlc. Also, I saw a few homeless people hanging around so this place is only good for going during the daytime. At night, it might be kind of sketchy.

Such a cool place!! Didn't really know much about it before we came but glad we made the stop! A beautiful park!

Great place to hang out or enjoy the sun. Lots of people there taking pictures around the park. Since it is located downtown and right next to the library, there are some homeless gathering there so be cautious, nit because of the homeless but because it can get busy. I saw a small building that might have been a restroom but I didn’t check. Find near parking was a challenge for me even on a slow Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday evening we went to the topiary park. The first impression is that it is well maintained. The topiary figures are several varieties of Taxus, commonly known as yews. They are trimmed through the summer to maintain their appearance. The beautiful gardens filled with perennials and annuals are planted and maintained by volunteers of the Friends of the topiary park.

This park is a nice little homage to Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte”. There’s a plaque at n the form of an easel which is a relief of the painting and the park itself is home to lots of hedge sculptures of the figures you can see within the painting. While we were there, some of the hedges seemed in disrepair which lessened the effect but overall it’s a very unique experience you won’t find anywhere else in the country.

We did a quick stop in this park in the middle of Columbus City, and enjoyed the nice tree sculptures. It was an incredible hot day, so we were walking around from a shadow spot to the next one. It is a peaceful place to stop and take a break. It use to be part of the School for Deaf in Ohio

Fun little park to enjoy a stroll and sunshine. Lots of benches and the paths are made of asphalt. It’s a great place to walk a dog too. 😀

Very peaceful and lovely park nestled in a neighborhood that is over a century old. Based on a classic French impressionist painting the park was originally made for the children that attended the school for the deaf right next to it.

I happen to be in Columbus on an absolutely gorgeous day in April. The weather was perfect to be outside and I took advantage of it by walking through the topiary park. Some beautiful things to see. Scattered among some bodies of water and beautiful flowers. Perfect way to spend the afternoon

The park figures mimick the art in the photo nearby. It is a beautiful duplicate to see. It is well kept up with great attention to detail. Right beside the park is a public library to visit and an outdoor area with a few interesting seating options and a musical item to play. Worth taking the time to go see.

This is a hidden gem I heard about and decided to stop to on a hot summer afternoon in August. It is a neat concept, but I have to admit that I thought they would be bigger. Also, I think the hot summer sun scorched a few of them, leaving them a little more brown and thin. At the time we were there, both the restrooms and gift shop were closed.

Always let Atlas Obscura be your Rand McNally! Finding myself in Columbus Ohio for a few days I wanted to find what was strange in the area. That’s kind of my thing when I’m traveling. So atlas Obscura offered up topiary park! It’s an area of Columbus known as Germantown and I’ve been told that was a cool area that I should explore! The topiary park exists in the area that was formerly the school of the deaf. And this particular park re-creates a famous painting by post-impressionist Georges Seurat! What a surreal treat it was to enter inside “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte”! By all means stop by for a stroll a picnic or just some quiet reflection.

I recently moved to Columbus, Decided to take a stroll around the new neighborhood and came across this park. I was fascinated by how the concept of the park came about. Small park and well kept. Loved my evening stroll.

Such gorgeous gardens, located right behind the main library. I never knew about this hidden gem in Columbus. Gardens are beautiful and peaceful and the historical placards are helpful. My kids thought it was fairly boring though, lol. Still glad I made them come. Be aware that there are some homeless individuals who may also be enjoying the park. It didn’t detract from our enjoyment of it.

Very nice, enjoyable park. Paved paths circling and splitting the park. Nice, small pond. Several benches and a few concrete tables. Neighboring the backside of the main Columbus library branch, which has an out door pay area for kids.

Tiny Oasis in the middle of the city. It’s a good free park to walk around if you’re looking to burn some time. There are some very beautiful trees here as well as a few well kept topiaries. Personally I enjoyed reading the plaques here the most because there was so much personality on most of them!

  • 5/5 Chris N. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful relaxing enjoyable park even in the rain. Well maintained grounds and a great visualization of a most famous painting that almost puts you right on the canvass. Quiet neighborhood and historic environs makes it a great place for a contemplative stroll or picnic - solo or with a friend. If you appreciate beauty you will like this park.

Cool place to check out if you are in the area. It has a walking path around the park and several seating benches. There is a gatehouse museum or a gift shop open summer to fall. We were there on a Sunday when it was supposed to be open but it was closed. We were told by a local that it's run by volunteers so it depends on coverage if it's open or not.

Fantastic park in Columbus. Topiary garden based on French painter Georges Seurat's painting "Sunday Afternoon...." Many of his figures interpreted in sculpted greenery!

  • 3/5 Joseph S. 10 months ago on Google
Getting high expectations from the "Only In Your State" articles that circulate online often leads to disappointment. This park IS much smaller and the topiary work much less elaborate than social media posts may lead you to believe. That said, it's a clean and peaceful park that would be a regular stop if I lived nearby.

We have been traveling to Columbus for the past year for medical treatment at Nationwide's Children's Hospital and we always make a point to visit this park. Perfect for a walk, scooter ride or even a board game at one of the tables. It is very pretty all times of the year and highly recommend!

This park is definitely a better sight in the main seasons such as spring. This is when the trees and flowers start to bud more. The sculpted and trimmed plants are a really cool site to see in the park. I would recommend bringing your camera and a blanket and some food for a picnic. Within walking distance of the library and the high school.
