Found the new playground near the zip line and natural play area. My kids enjoy the new playground as well as the nature center. One of the better Metro parks in Columbus. Great for a summer picnic.

I've been visiting High Banks park since I've moved to Ohio in 2010. Not much has changed over the year, which is one of the highlights of the park. Some paths have been added that has improved the over all enjoyment. Parks like High banks are one of the last places you can go to enjoy peace and serenity. When I want to improve my mood, get away, Or just have a better quality outlook on life. This is where I come. I've visited all hours of the day, 7 days a week and its never over crowded on a walk. Up till now I've walked just about every trail available. I enjoy the one pet trail most of all. Its more of a real hike with untouched terrain. Some of you probably have seen me from time to time enjoying a walk with my kitty who sits on the back of her hiking bag. Talk about standing out:-) If I had to answer pros and cons. All would be pros. Since I can't give any cons. The only complaint I would have is parking for the pet trails. Up until a few years ago, the parking lot was never full. These days the lot is just about full no matter what time of day you come. If the lot is full, pet owners can't park elsewhere and walk back over since animals are not allowed on anyother trail. Unless you want to walk the roads, If you can even do that. I was led to believe pets are not allowed anywhere else but this area. An evaluation should be made to see how many spots are needed any given day for the pet trails. Those spots should be reserved for the pet trails only. Keep up the good work park officials and I'll keep coming back for years to come. Thank you!

Love this park, great moss pathways, lots of playgrounds, massive dog park, disc golf courses. Several walking paths that loop around, if you did every single one at a decent pace, it would be about 4 hours, the longer individual paths will take you about an 45minutes - 1.5 hours depending on walking speed, there are several 30 minute walking paths. There's also a community center, but ive never interacted with it. They also have covered pavilions of various size & space, that have charcoal grills and nearby restrooms. A lot of those picnic areas also have playgrounds nearby for kids. It looks like they all see used to have jep line But the zip line was not in working condition when we visit it. However kids can have a good time at the playground with all those play equipment and you can also have a good time in park, walkways and in various other parts of the entire Metro Park. You can ask for more when you have a whole lot of over 200 acres just for you.

A wonderful and clean place that includes various games in far apart places + many places for shelters + children’s games + clean bathrooms + a place for lighting firewood and barbecues, many and varied + wonderful and paved paths and pedestrian bridges with water underneath them + the best place in Columbus. Thank you to those who run it.

Nice park. If you’re up for hiking🚶🏾‍♀️ and a park for quality time, this is perfect! There are swings, spots for kids to play, a little zoo exhibit area which is very informative, then lots of woods, waters running down which gives a spectacular view. No pets allowed.

Wonderful park for any activity in the town. It is a very big park next to olentangy River and adjacent to US 23 Road. There are good number of kids play areas and ample of parking around the park. Best place to visit in any season.

Love this place! The nature center is one of the best in the area. They have a little stage for kids to do puppet show and play with games. They have large windows for bird watching. There are also live fish, turtles, snakes, etc to see. The restrooms inside the nature center are nice, but the hand dryer is very loud. We love the new playground they put in and the natural play area. Last time we went it looked like the zip line was under construction.

We had our church picnic here and it was wonderful! We rented the North shelter house. There was wood available to build a fire in the fireplace, a small kitchen and counter space for the food prep. There was an indoor restroom facility very close by. They also had one Frisbee golf goal that we could use, a basketball hoop, and volleyball net, as well as a nice playground. The Ranger was very accommodating and let us in at 8:00 am sharp as promised. I would highly recommend planning your events here! I cannot wait to go back and explore the rest of the park!

Great place for scenic walks, even in a very hot day we were able to easily find a shade covered walk. We did the overlook trail this time. Another favorite is dripping rock trail. This park could always use more parking but if you go deeper into the park there is more chance of securing a spot. The last time we went turkeys were crossing the path ahead of us.

The Falls colors were simply stunning!! Plenty of picnic area and benches for elderly visitors. Ran across so many friendly folks on a morning hike with their families and pets. I reckon the Fall colors would still be around for another couple of weeks.

One of my favorite places to spend the day with my kids. Enjoyable all year around. Many trails to causally walk or run, most are paved. Super clean restrooms, shelters, playground, creek, and a zip line!

The park is huge. We plan to go back for another hike soon. We did a fall walk loop trail that was mostly gravel path. Lots of little areas for picnics and grilling throughout the park. The winter lights in December was a nice quick walk through the woods by the nature center.

Nice place to enjoy nature when sports isn't going on inside the park scaring all of the animals away! Would be nice if it was actually a nature park that it was intended to be for, instead is now basically a sports park.

Do you love trees? We do. Added cornflake tree (black cherry), honey locust with spikes, white oak climax trees, beech, sycamore, and many wildflowers in just one 3 mile hike. We also saw 2 Adena burial mounds, dating from 700 to 100 BC and bonus...working rest rooms. Love this metro park.

Great park, well run and maintained with a variety of paved, gravel, and nature trails. Bikes and dogs are each allowed on some, but not all trails. There's also a nice lake with a blind for photos but it sits too low to get much of a view. Even with full parking lots the longer trails are still sparsely populated giving you a solid chance to see some wildlife. Deer, rabbits, ducks, and turkey are all common. Fox, coyotes, owls, and eagles are around too but rare to see.

I love this park! I love that it has real bathrooms and a variety of trails. Good for hiking with tiny humans, good for pushing a stroller, and good for longer hikes for adults. The staff does an incredible job keeping things clean and providing excellent resources for continued learning.

1200 acres of sprawling greenery nestled between three busy highways - 23, 750 and 315 - one of the best of Metro Parks in the Columbus area. While most of the preserve is off-limits for humans, for good reason, what is there is enough to keep one occupied for a couple of months. The park has a plethora of trails, with the longest one being a paved multi-use trail. The Coyote Run trail is for pets, some of the other trails don’t allow pets because they might end up scaring the wildlife around. Getting to see different wildlife - rabbits, turkeys, squirrels, deers, beavers, bald eagles etc is very common if you are a regular visitor (remember, the number of wildlife coming out in the open is inversely proportionate to the number of humans lurking around :) ) and know when and where. There are a lot of BBQ pits spread all over the park, and some shelters as well. But on a nice bright day, you might not find one of those covered shelters beyond 1PM. However, there are several other pits and picnic tables near them all over the place. Recently, a mini zip line has also been installed for kids. The Oak Coves and Big Meadows areas have large meadows for people to enjoy, especially kids running around and playing. One of the favorite activity of kids in this park is wading in the river. There are a few access points from the main areas of the park. However, if you are familiar with the area, my suggestion will be to drive around to the River Bluff area whose entrance is on 315. The 0.4m Eagle View trail there runs along the river and you can walk down one of the pathways down to the river. The water is generally shallow, around knee dee at the deepest point. If you have kids, it will definitely be a great experience for them on a warm summer day. If you are lucky, you might get to view a few bald eagles as well. In my opinion, a great place to explore nature and spend time with friends and family.

I love Highbanks. We're really lucky in Ohio to have a park like this. It's big enough for a substantial day-hike (though I've taken a pack with me, you'll probably be fine leaving water in the car), well kept, with plenty of opportunities to explore and adventure. After it rains is the best! Highbanks can take a ton of moisture before it gets really muddy, but all the waterways will be filled. One of my favorite things about this park is the shade. It can be mid 90's and humid, and LOVELY on the trail. There's also a ton of places for picnics/gatherings/cookouts.

This was the second time in three weeks visiting this local Columbus Metro Park, this time to make a day hike adventure out of it and it was beautiful! Ended up taking on all their primary trails: Multi-Use (paved-2.3 miles), Dripping Rock (2.5 miles), Overlook (2.3 miles), Big Meadows (1 mile), and Coyote Run (3.5 miles) plus alone satellite trail Wetland Spur (0.4 miles). A fantastic mix of level, hills, forested, open space, grassy, dirt/gravel-based paths and just a serene place to hike. It was quite busy in the morning given it was a Saturday, but people were still spread out enough to have some solace during legs of my hike. Clean, family-friendly, well-kept facilities including a Nature Center, picnic shelters, plenty of parking. This is a park worth checking out!!

Highbanks Metro Park is a treasure. It offers a variety of trails and activities including access to the scenic Olentangy river. Big Meadows has a Pine grove with hammock hookups. There is a human scale Eagle's nest next to the nature center. Highbanks is popular, especially on weekends and the parking lots near the entrance fill up first.

This is my favorite Metro Park. You can see wildlife and beauty year round. A great place to take a hike and forget about the outside world for awhile. Dogs are not allowed everywhere so be careful. Joggers and loud soccer moms are allowed everywhere 😁 Look at the map for restroom locations prior to setting off, and bring a bottle of water. Plenty of picnic areas and some play equipment for kids too.

Highbanks is such a nice park. The trails are wide & well kept. We didn’t have to worry about much mud, and especially not leaves or branches / sticks, getting in the way. The park is immaculate of anything people could’ve left behind. And the scenery is beautiful. The sledding hill is really neat too. I can see us going back many times and never walk the same path. Thank you for taking such good care of it.

Such a beautiful park! The hues of the turning trees were breathtaking, the light streams of water were calming, and the trails were super easy to navigate for people of all ages and fitness levels. 10 out of 10 nature experience.

It was such a lovely day aside from the Yellow Jackets trying to end my life. We had to move to a picnic table because of the yellow jackets and then they followed us to the picnic table. We at and when we went to leave one flew into my SUV and almost stung me, and I'm DEATHLY allergic. I screamed like I was jn a haunted house and jumped out of me SUV. Needless to say, I don't think I will have any more picnics here, but it was absolutely beautiful, and we drove all thru the park. What a lovely day. Thankfully, I survived!

By far my favorite park to visit alone or with my family. I love the signs they have posted on the trails saying what certain trees are, brief history of them or facts. Same for historical tidbits like how the road near the river was built, the giant fish fossil etc. The employees are really nice too.

Highbanks is an excellent path located on Columbus's Northwest side. They have a public Zipline open seasonally in the Big Meadow. The multi use trail is located by the nature center. There are plenty of nooks and crannies within the large park to have some quiet time with a close friend or enjoy a gathering with a group at one of the shelters located near very clean and maintained restrooms. The trails are clearly marked and there is a trail for every type of nature enthusiast. If you're in town and needing a break from the hustle and bustle it's only about 10 min from Polaris.

Great place for casual walks, hiking, jogging and cycling. It all depends on which trails you choose. Pay a visit to the visitor center for better information on which trails to use for what. Either way, this park has a little something for everyone.

Park feels like it is isolated in nature despite being bounded by 315 and 23. My wife and I have walked most of the trails in the park, but I hadn't been on the Overlook Trail with the leaves on the trees in the past few years. It makes the sycamore bark even more pronounced against the green of the canopy. Can't take a dog on that trail, though (which is why I hadn't been on it until recently). Also because of dog previously and then Covid closures, I had not been inside the Nature Center until this visit. Very nice. Cool life sized diorama of a shale cliff. Naturalists very helpful. And the library is amazing - if I lived closer, I'd consider spending much more time in there just reading and looking out the 15 foot tall windows.

Lots to do and explore at the Highbanks Metro Park. We enjoy the multiple paved hiking paths for their ease and accessibility. They also have an extensive unpaved trail network to meet everyone's needs. Very dog friendly with lots of distractions like mile hills just waiting to be explored and dug.

  • 5/5 Josh B. 1 year ago on Google
Highbanks is a beautiful and spacious park with a plethora of things to do including a number of guided programs for all ages. The staff is wonderful and do a great job keeping the place looking great. The only downside is how busy it gets on a the weekends on nice weather days, but that is just a testament to how lovely of a place it is.
