I visited here on a field trip for an OSU club. The park is beautiful and I loved seeing the bison! The nature center is amazing too. I love the water features and the staff is so very kind. The building itself is stunning as well, the grass roof is so unique. I think this is a wonderful place to visit!

I went here on a Saturday with my family in the late afternoon. We viewed the bison in the summer pasture and hiked the trail between the nature center and the park. After the hike, we visited the nature center around 6pm. It was very empty, which was great for us since we are still practicing social distancing. The nature center itself has nice public restrooms, including family restrooms. It has so many great activities for young kids, and it's all free! (We brought our two-year-old, and he loved it.) They have an indoor stream featuring wildlife like fish, turtles and frogs-- all of which you are encouraged to touch. There is also a room with the different skins/furs of local wildlife you can touch and feel (such as a bison, grey wolf, badger, skunk, hare, etc.). They also have an area to learn more about bison with various facts mixed with an interactive activity module. There is a place to look at bugs under a microscope, with various boxes of preserved bugs like spiders, beetles, bees, etc. The whole place is full of taxidermy of the local wildlife, as well. And there are some areas with actual live animals, like a tree frog, snakes and a salamander. I highly recommend this nature center and I can't wait to come again.

I love coming here to watch the fish in the live stream and then walk the well paved trails to search for the bison. I came recently and the bison were moved to their winter field which was awesome because you can see them all from the observation deck. Anything someone comes to visit we take them here as a must see sight!

Visited Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park and Nature Center with the kids last weekend and it was a delightful experience! The Nature Center boasts an amazing collection of reptiles, fish, insects, and animals that captivated the whole family. They've also got an interactive fun center that kept the kids engaged. The park's extensive walking trails offer serene views and the rare opportunity to watch bison herds graze in their natural habitat—a genuine treat. The staff's friendliness added warmth to our visit, and the complimentary cookies and lemonade were a sweet surprise. Overall, it was a day well spent where nature and hospitality combined to create wonderful memories. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a family-friendly outdoor adventure.

I love the place. Their nature center is wonderful and the inside stream is fantastic. Plus, seeing the bison is fun. Only downfall is that they are 32 minutes from my house but worth the trip!

February 2024: the bison were directly behind the nature center, which boasts a beautiful viewing deck that overlooks the bison’s winter pasture. You can get within about 100’ of the fence line; no petting or feeding which is understandable- enjoy them from afar! The nature center has plenty of live amphibians on display, and the live stream is home to many different fish. Beautiful, and educational! Plenty of walking and nature to partake in. Both the nature center and parking are free, public restrooms. This place is a beautiful day trip for anyone passing through, or a native Ohioan!

Beautiful park! The nature center, shelter houses, and playgrounds are a great place to spend a summer afternoon. At the Nature Center, check out the incredible indoor "hands on" stream environment and all of the educational exhibits about ancient people and wildlife from the area. Oh and the bison! They have a herd. They're awesome.

Very big and nice park. Plenty of trails picnic areas and shelters. Enough open space and play areas for kids to play. Bisons roaming and grazing in the prairie is the top attraction here. Could not get to visit the nature center due to COVID shutdown, but no complaints with park and attractions here. A great visit for people of Columbus.

This was our first time here and it won't be our last! We started with a picnic in the park. It was a beautiful setting. There are 2 parks on one end with trails to take you to the Bison. Across the parking lot there is a sand volleyball court where so many were just playing and making friends. There's a trail that's pretty steep but beautiful that I'd like to go back when I don't have strollers. Bathrooms are so clean with changing table and a wall chair to secure the baby while you go. We then went to the nature center and the kids loved it. So much to see. You really need a few days to enjoy it all.

Such a great place for a nice winter day. We spent the afternoon at the new playgrounds. I loved all the bird feeders around the pathways. After playing outside, we drove to the nature center and warmed up inside. We enjoyed looking at the bison and learning about the animals of Ohio.

From the beautiful sights and adventure to the building full of interactive teaching sites this place is a perfect five! I went with a couple friends to enjoy the beautiful day and see the wildlife. Going here was so much fun and informational it’s a fantastic place to bring your children. There’s a spyglass near the building that zooms in on a large open area and when we went there were so many animals out there that we could zoom in on and see! Inside the building is a little zoo and a beautiful homemade creek full of creatures! And on the trail we found a herd of water buffalo! This is a fantastic place to bring your family and have fun together while learning a little bit about the wildlife around this I highly recommend giving this place a visit.

Always a fun experience! Hands on experience with the fish and turtles inside. Different animal pelts to touch and learn about inside. Interactive and informative displays and activities. And you can watch the Bison on the bison cam! Then if you go outside, you can walk to the pasture and see the Bison there on the trails! It’s a wonderful experience for the kids and the adults!

You could probably refer back to my review of Battelle Darby Creek park, but this place is awesome. The staff is so eager to teach about the area here, its flora and fauna, and historical inhabitants. Lots on display and lots to explore. Also: BISON CAM

  • 5/5 Kyriya 11 months ago on Google
Absolutely love this nature center and surrounding trails. Parking lot is quite large. There is a map to tell you which area the Bison are in currently so you can view them. The walk down to the Nature Center itself is neat with metal artwork of animals/birds. A fun rock play area to right of the building. Inside are many points of interest such as the living stream which is stocked with fish and turtles from the creek and several tanks which house turtles, snakes, salamanders, and frogs. Many displays of stuffed animals and historical items such as arrowheads and tools. They do have restrooms which were very clean. Everyone was very kind and were eager to help answer any questions about the wildlife in the center.

Nice trails (paved and dirt), great interpretive center, opportunity to see wild bison in Ohio!

  • 4/5 Anne N. 9 months ago on Google
The nature center is very nice. They have a center area with this fish tank. Lots of interactive learning tools with a mini library. I really enjoyed the area with the different animal skins. Nice to feel the fur. We didn't see any bison, but learned a lot about Battelle Darby and it's ecosystem. Great place to take kids. We walked the trails to get there. The trails are mostly gravel trails across a prairie. It was July, sunny, and no breeze. It was hot. Next time I go back, I will plan to go on a cooler day or perhaps an overcast day. Maybe the bison 🦬 will be out too. Worth checking out but check the weather.

Such a beautiful park in Central Ohio! We LOVE the Nature Center with the live stream & of course the bison outdoors. Bonus - they have a few different playgrounds for all ages.

  • 5/5 Ashlie M. 7 months ago on Google
Battelle is good for nature walks, jogging, running, and bike riding along the trails full of nature. Darby Creek is easily accessible within a short distance from the park. There is plenty to do for children for a day of fun. They have several parks, basketball, volleyball, and nice open fields for fun. The park is pet, kid, and family-friendly. There is a nature center accessible just a short walk or drive adjacent to the main park. All the trails are very well-kept. You can access the creek from most of the trails. Maps are available. They have pet-friendly trails as well. The creek is accessible for canoeing and kayaking. You can fish the creek. It is okay for family, friends, kids, and dogs to play in the creek too! Bring your own water safety devices. The park equipment has been recently updated just this year. It is nice because they have different areas for play for the toddlers, little ones, and the bigger kiddos. There is plenty of open space for any one's desire for playtime, picnics, napping, yoga, etc. Hammocks are welcome too! They have shelter houses for cookouts, parties, etc. There is no reservation required for shelter houses throughout the park. They are on a first-come basis. There are public grills available for use. Restrooms are available for the public. All the grounds are very well kept by the park rangers. They also have cabins/lodges available for rent for events. They are private and tucked away nicely surrounded by nature. They are clean and cozy. They come with kitchens, bathrooms, and plenty of seating. At the nature center you kind find the bison. They have plenty of free roam space so it may take a moment to spot them. Inside you can see the live stream with native species and much more.. All the rangers are full of knowledge, friendly, and respectful. Battelle is a top pick for a local metro park!

We didn’t get very far before we all realized we had been there for two hours just in the Nature Center. It’s a great place for all ages kids and an even better place to go when it’s too cold to go outside. There is a living stream with aquatic animals, numerous tanks with more creatures, a large kids play area, and even a room full of various animal pelts to touch and feel. This place is exactly what a five star park should be. Lots of stuff to do, free, and best of all open to everyone all the time. Don’t hesitate to go and spend the day.
