My wife and I absolutely love Harriman. Such a huge park and not far from NYC. So many trails and different landscapes to explore. Since the pandemic started we’ve been seeing a lot more wildlife in the park. Be careful when off trail as there are huge timber rattle snakes in the brush. They aren’t aggressive but will strike if you get to close. There’s a whole bunch of summer camps in the park that are fun to explore. Brings me back to being a kid. There’s a lot of great places to camp in the park and a few lean to’s if you get to them first. You can explore mountain tops to swampy bogs. You can kayak, swim at the beach, bbq, mountain bike, hike and so much more. So much diversity in this park.

State Park police are good people they just trying to protect us in the forest and please no littering what you take you take out also learn tail etiquette R.E.I. and YouTube is your friend good luck.🏕🌄

such a nice park! Although my ankle was not fully recovered from a recent injury, I still had tons of fun. Note that the trail is not difficult, but very rocky. Wear hard shoes.

WOW! What a beautiful place to ride through , and fortunately we did it on Harleys-Davidsons so absolutely nothing better. The trail heads are marked well and the rest stops are well lined with picnic benches. The beach area look very nice where you can swim and kayak.

It's the best park nearby New York City. Great and well marked hiking trails. Beautiful lakes, old abandoned mines along the trails, great views from the local peaks.

One of the best State Parks in New York and New Jersey. Great hiking trails. Total of 7 beautiful lakes in the park. Lots of fishing spots. All year around fishing available with Kayak and boat launch areas. It is also right next to Bear Mountain State Park. Overall a very fun place.

We started at the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center and ended up hiking on several different trails in the park. The trails can be a bit hard to follow, but are really well marked. We had a beautiful time hiking. At one overlook, we could see the New York City skyline which really amazed us, we didn’t expect it at all. I would absolutely hike here again.

I had one of my best weekends here. This park is big and offers so many opportunities: hiking, barbecuing, swimming, canoeing, it was a blessing! The whole family enjoyed it and we came back very rested and energized. Nothing beats the beauty of nature.

Huge park to explore. The Appalachian trail runs through here. The memorable lemon squeezer is here and was a good challenge to pass through. Plenty of areas to camp. Parking is tough on weekends. Trails are marked well. Make sure to have a map. Great place to enjoy nature.

Great escape from the insanity of the city, peaceful, filled with beautiful lakes great trails for hiking and best of all no cell service. If you have a car you’re doing a disservice by not going at least twice a month! Love this place!

Such a beautiful park. We come here to hike. There are a few trails. We haven't tried all of them, but those we have, run past little streams, waterfalls, and end up near a beautiful mountain lake. Besides just sitting there and taking in a beautiful nature scene, there are little fish in the water who come by to say hello. Only trouble is, parking can be tricky. They have a parking lot, but it only holds about 10 cars. If you can't park here, you can find a spot on the road, but you may have to drive a bit past the trails and walk along the road to get back. Also, if you visit, make sure to stay hydrated, and please wear some sort of bug protection, as the wooded areas do tend to have ticks. If you forget, there is a homey little store before you start out on the trails that carries Many things you may need. Protein/granola bars, drinks, maps, but spray, tick removers, etc. Average hike/walk may take from 2-4 hours, depending on how quickly you walk.. Pack a lunch, snacks, water. Enjoy the day.

A great park!! Took a picture of the map at the entrance and only had to backtrack once or twice when blazes were sparse. Lots of trail options, with some more crowded than others. It's pretty rocky so I would recommend good shoes w ankle support

Photos and videos are from yesterday, foliage views are great 👍🏻 It’s expected to reach full foliage next week and I’m sure it’ll be pretty then as well.

I hike here regularly. If you want to avoid the crowds at Reeves Brook trail go early. Parking Lot is usually full by 930am. There are a lot of trails to explore so grab a trail map or an app like like all trails and get out there.

Harrington State Park - Red, Yellow, Aqua route. Easy and takes just over an hour. Beautiful views and passes next to Lake Skannatati, lovely on a sunny day. Parking lot holds approx 40 cars and was quite busy. Plenty of other trails nearby

There are so many challenging trials and beautiful views in this State Patk. The most difficult one I have been to, was near Lake Sebago Boat Launch. It started from Seven Lake Dr. The trial is not on Google Map. You just need to follow the marks on the tree (Blue/Orange). 6.5 hours in total. The view in the middle of the trial is astonishing. Definitely worth a try.

We went in search of Doodletown, a small Hamlet that no longer exists. It was home to 70 families dating back to the 1700's. Only remnants of some old stone foundations and signage of what use to be there exist. A few old cemeterys, one is still active for ancestors of those buried there. Interesting place. Initial walking path from 9W was steep and muddy. At top of hill the path is paved. Worth a visit. Nice views in winter when leaves are off the trees.

Beautiful park, well kept trails, nice camping. Be careful for the haverstraw scammers and 🐖 checkpoints entering the park.

Hiking in the fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year. You get to see to see some of the change of color for the foliage. This time we actually saw a snake 🐍 around the lake. Parking is a pain in the butt because it's mostly just street parking. There is no reception in this area so have a downloaded map if you plan on hiking all trails is a great app.

Started hiking with my dog about a year ago. Harriman state park is at the top of our list. Beautiful scenery, tons of hikes to choose from (levels, duration, scenic, etc). Definitely check it out!

Plenty of trails and not from far from Manhattan. I like to take people new to hiking here as there are a variety of difficulties and paths to choose from. Just make sure to bring bug spray. They're pretty angry at us this year.

Really great trails. Parking is virtually nonexistent on a nice day. I guess you start your hike in advance of the trailhead...

We went here for a picnic recently to celebrate the end of the summer. The place was packed, so I recommend getting there in the very early AM for the ideal spot. Some of our party felt the water was too gunky and too crowded for swimming, but sediment moves in a lake so I had no issue with it. Park rangers are friendly and vigilant, I felt safe overall. Don't forget $10 for parking.

A stunning natural area not far from NYC. You could hike here for years, taking new trails all the time. I was pleased by how quiet it was, how free of litter, and how difficult some of the hiking was (challenging in a good way!). I will be back to try more trails.

Very nice place to spend time with family and friends. Well run, safe and clean. The water was Cold and clean, the view was spectacular, really beautiful. Scenic. Bathroom was okay, they offer changing rooms and sell refreshments. A bit of a walk from the parking lot and the beach/sand area was big. The parks personals were very friendly and helpful. $10.00 parking fee, not bad. Overall I would recommend this location for a pleasant day with the family and friends.

We went into a trailhead through the Reese Meadow Visitor Center. The maps and signage along the way to two lakes up top the mountain are clearly marked. At the visitor center the bathrooms were clean but there was little in the way of parking. The view of the lakes were great and so was the climb to the peak of Diamond Mountain. The trail(s) here are moderate difficulty, not recommended for beginners.

Beautiful place during fall season. Great place for hiking, photography. Has some good nice spots to stop by and enjoy the views. Better to explore the beauty here rather than rushing to the bear mountain where it gets really busy during peak fall

Harriman state park is such a beautiful park and I truly enjoy my morning drives into work. What I don’t enjoy is how frequently tractor trailers and commercial vehicles now use the park. I know they are not permitted to drive in the park however, nothing is being done about it. Today, I finally called the park rangers to advise and of course nothing was done. My information wasn’t even asked. All I got was a “okay, okay, okay”. It’s absolutely a risk to have these vehicles on such narrow, bumpy and potholed roads. They cross over the double yellow lines or in this case this morning; this Verizon unity bucket truck was speeding while driving reckless. Please be careful out there driving you may take a turn and find an 18 wheeler in your lane.

Our favorite. In every season You always find different ways to enjoy the park. 7 lakes and a lot of trail

  • 5/5 Imelda R. 2 years ago on Google
It is a beautiful place that has everything for those who like to enjoy nature, both forests and lakes where one can go swimming, fishing or simply go to enjoy the beauty of these places, but if you are one of the people who like Go for a walk and live more closely with nature this place has it and if you like to spend a few nights away from technology, here there are also places where you can camp with family, friends or with your partner, it is definitely a very beautiful place.

Loved the vast amount of nature it offers. Water bodies, hiking, just pure nature. Very serene. Beware of the bugs though. Bugs spray shd always be readily available
