This small, yet very cute park is set just across the street of the Dominican convent. It's a nice place to sit and rest for a while during exploring the Zona Colonial. In the center of the park is a statue of Juan Pablo Duarte, the founder of the secret Trinitaria organization, who fought and gain independence from Haiti rule in mid 19c.

Cool park where the "natives" meet to drink and talk. Some small bars are around where you can get cheap beer to drink in the park.

Beautiful place to sit with friends and talk, surrounded by history... All that DR has to offer historically in it's subtle beauty, and what DR is now in the present, in a cacophony of sounds, smiles, and scenery. A vibrant crowd gathers every night of all ages, origins, cultures, and orientations with the same goal, to chill, absorb the vibe, share a drink, have a laugh...

Beautiful sunny day for a walk on the first established Colonial city in America. Duarte Park offered plenty of shade, tropical breeze, feels like a park in Portugal or Spain...nice place to have lunch.

Fun park to go to in the colonial zone. Be sure to grab a beer at the colmado while you’re there. Also, be sure to watch out for the birds in the trees. They might go number #2 while you’re sitting on the bench in the shade. I’d recommend also bringing some disinfecting wipes or spray because the benches I don’t think are cleaned and have bird dropping stains on them. That said there is still something very cool about this area and is a great place to meet up with people and have some drinks at and enjoy the views in this part of the Zona Colonial.

This park hosts a massive memorial featuring a statue of Juan Pablo Duarte, along with an enormous statue of Nike or Victoria, the Greco-Roman goddess of victory; and a tiny man representing the fight for independence. Not much else was happening in the park when I visited.

A lovely park. Peaceful and set in the middle of history. Huge and beautiful trees provides the cool shade. Perfect getaway from the hustle bustle of El Conde.

Duarte Park is a public park where visited from people from the neighborhood and some patron tourists where you can buy alcohol beverage at retail price and drink it in the open. You have to be open mind and not biased, though, because depending on the time of the day, it is also visited by LGTB.

Duarte Park is my favourite hangout place in Santo Domingo ever. You can hang out there with your friends and most people there are friendly, too, so you can meet other people there, as well. There is a colmado right there where you can buy affordable drinks.

During the early afternoon, it is a very quiet and relaxing park. In the early evening it becomes a great place to come chill with a group of friends and listen to music or meet new people

The parks in La Zona are always filled with life. Music, people, sun and fun. At night time it's where people congregate and keep the night going when businesses shut down for day. This is true not only for Duarte. La Zona in general is special, its atmosphere talks of old but is alive and thriving in the now. Picturesque and holds plenty of beauty, just pause and take it in.

It's great for sharing with your family during day time but at night it's more of a hanging out spot in which I do not recommend at all taking your children to. You'll find places to eat around and if you want the full experience with your kids during day time go to a mini market and get some corn for the doves!

One star because that place is cool n' all that, but there's moments that you have to be alert because I heard that you could have one of those weird homosexuals that goes there trying to steal your drinks or even your personal belongings... So avoid getting distracted in parque Duarte lol.

Juan Pablo Duarte (1813-1877). The founder and a great citizen of the Dominican Republic. Military leader and politician. He was a participant in the Dominican Independence War. A beautiful monument dedicated to Juan Pablo Duarte, the great patriot stands in the park named after him in Santo Domingo, Zona Colonial. I visited Parque Duarte in December 2014.
