My experience with the admissions department was very frustrating and disappointing. I auditioned for the Woodwind Specialist MM program. I received a letter from the graduate school at Michigan State saying I was admitted. I even received the same letter in snail mail. A week later I received a letter from the music department saying that I wasn't admitted for the Woodwind Specialist program, but they would admit me for the clarinet performance MM if I desired. When I called asking why I received the first letter from the graduate school, the man seemed confused and said I [didn't] receive a letter because it wasn't in the records. Why would I make up receiving a letter that I was admitted? He reiterated their policy that the letter from the music department comes first. I said that obviously, their letter had NOT come first. When I emailed a copy of the letter I received from the graduate school saying I was admitted to both the associate director and the director, I received NO response. My problem was NOT with the faculty's decision. My problem is with the administrative issues. It does not speak highly of the university and does not motivate me to spend 30K on tuition. Simple empathy or an apology of some sort would have gone a long way. Instead, I am sadly writing this Google review to tell you about my experience.

Attended the Ribbon cutting for the Billman Pavilon this afternoon. This is a beautiful and much needed addition to The College of Music. Even more impressive than the visible additions are the things that make the infrastructure State of the Art: ventilation and safe air quality, magnificent acoustics, more space and ample space for all activities.

I attended a recital for a horn Doctoral student and it was really nice to see the music community support one another...

I left a message requesting tickets to the Jazz Spirituals concert and was surprised that not only was my message returned after their Holiday break but they offered to mail the tickets to my home! Happy camper.

Undergoing a lot of updates and expansion. The facilities are out of date and all need a big update. May increase score to a 5 when the refurb and expansion is complete. The programs they offer are great but like all schools the program you want may or may not be what you want.

The percussion room is great! It has a nice 5-octave marimba and multiple other marimbas and instruments. Also, the performance hall is excellent.

The MSU campus is very lovely, and this facility was beyond my expectations. It makes the UM music building look subpar.

This is one of the older, traditional buildings in the old part of the Campus. Mostly office and rehearsal spaces, but Cook Recital Hall is the scene of a lot of student and faculty performances.
