It's nice and ancient and not really taken care of, it's one of those places you visit once...:)

It is a beautiful place to visit, right next to the lake. The ruins feel like a little maze, quite enjoyable and easy to walk though. The museum itself would need some financing to get back to its better days, so do visit and support as much as you can.

Such a shame...this place has potential. Stray dogs, almost no information pannels, weeds everywhere. It could be made more attractive and it's not that difficult but no one seems to care.

We've been the last visitors that day so had the chance to enjoy the sunset while strolling between the ruins of the antique temples. The vestiges of the eastern quarter look amazing in the dusk with the lake in the background. Some majestic herons took off from the shrubs around the lake, and flew over ruins. This was the most poetic part of our late afternoon visit. Some stray dogs came also out from nowhere, hunting small rodents in the bushes, between the walls of the Roman thermae. This is the evidence that the former harbor, built by Greeks, developed by Romans and partially destroyed by Goths is nowadays conquest by Nature.

A great place to visit when you like Roman and Greek history. There is a nice little Museum where you can watch the most valueable objects. Unfortunately a big part was not accessible when we were there. Outside you can explore a lot of the excavations including Roman baths, temples and two Christian cathedrals. A must for archeology fans.

Very good preserved ruins, taking into consideration their age. Too bad that the conservation and protection works are not enough, a very large area is unprotected. The tourist signs are only a few. The feeling is that the time stopped before 1989. Missing any interactive, interresting information points.

Very nice place and interesting history. Nice people as well. We had lunch to a place nearby, called Burenista cherhana, if you like fish, I strongly recommend the place.

Ancient Greek and Roman remains of a town that was abandoned 13 centuries ago. You can walk around and discover every corner. And don't forget to climb on the walls for a magnificent view! Also, see ancient artifacts in the building at the entrance.

Great ancient history here. Built by the greeks and took over by romans. A piece of beauty over 2000 years old.

The entrance is cheap, 10 ron (in 2022), thats 2 eur. This is an ancient site and there is also a museum. You can spend your time outdoors & learn something new. You can also see the Sinoe lake from here, quite a sight! There is a terrace outside that serves very good food. May 2022- for the last 7km of the road, it is being rebuilt. Its fine to go by any car (its not "offroad"), just unpleasant. Hope it will be fixed soon. This is my second visit, I"ll come again.

A great experience. We even found an old mosaic. I've also seen the old ditches on the road made for carts. I loved it. It's worth visiting. Ticket price for adults: 10 RON (2 €).

It’s such a big shame that the Romanian government is not investing more in this archaeological discoveries that have such great historical importance. You can visit both the museum and the ancient city for only 10 RON (2€) and see a lot of ancient objects from the Roman-Greek era. Next to the archaeological site there is also a restaurant where you can eat and drink, but it was closed when I was there (check the restaurant schedule online).

Beautiful ancient citadel, the old pavement still exist, some of the mosaic still can be seen. We visited before sunset, splendid...

Marvellous place with a fabulous vibe, on ruined walls with long dramatuc history. Almost impossible to imagine what was it's wavy past 2000 years ago when being immersed into such a definitive silence!

I wish they would make the maps easier to read and have them spread more around the dig site. But overall it was pretty good.

Ne-am bucurat sa vedem cetatea despre care am invatat in scoala la istorie si geografie.

Interesting but... Well it still is mostly pile of ancient stones. Roman wall is probably most interesting

Unique experience for visiting this place. The gladiator guy Octavian is bringing life to this awesome place. If you are visiting Constanta it is worth going 40 km north to Histria.

A place full of history and information, great for a weekend visit.

More excavation happening whilst we were there and good to see a number of other tourists respectfly visiting. Wish more could be done to protect. Literally mosaic floors exposed to walkers and visibly deteriorating with every step. This is such important history. 14 centuries of Greco-Roman-Byzantine civilisation on the edge of the Black Sea and Danube Delta with so much more of it to discover, enjoy and learn from.

Must visit! Great historical place, you can also visit the museum for 20 RON (romanian value - museum 10 ron + citadel 10 ron) / person.

(Translated by Google) Very large in area, a real historical relic on the shores of Lake Sinoe, but unfortunately it is degrading without interest from those who manage it.

(Translated by Google) The lens is very beautiful and full of history. The downside is the very poor value. The arrangement is poor, too few explanatory panels. The museum needs rehabilitation to modern standards. Histria Fortress deserves more attention and investment.

Locația are o valoare istorică de însemnătate. Merită văzută!

  • 5/5 Sergiu P. 2 years ago on Google
Cetatea merita vazuta.

Always worth a visit as there's something new to discover each time. It's as much a botanical garden as a bunch of old stones!

👍👍 Very interesting, worth a visit, it is unique in the country in terms of construction. It was built in the 19th century when Dobrogea was under Ottoman rule; no place of worship was supposed to be higher than the window, not to have towers, bell or belfry. Then the decision was made to build it one...
