This is one of the museums that you cannot miss when visiting Bucharest. In around 1.5 hours you'll have the chance to see unique artifacts from all over Romania. Some, thousands of years old that are just mind blowing. The reason for not giving it 5 stars is the fact that there is no AC and no possibility to even have a sip of water; while I understand you cannot have people with bottles of water all over the place I believe a dedicated corner selling cold water can be easily accomplished.

Very small compared to many other such museums but well worth the admission price. You can spend between one or two hours depending on the level of interest, highlight is the treasure as it manages to tell the history of the country through archeological finds and is well documented with ample text in Romanian and English

The museum only has three areas open to visit right now. The first is small and dedicated to textiles. The second exposition is Columnei Lui Traian, and I found it interesting. There is a large replica of part of the column and then NUMEROUS replicas of smaller sections and a short movie providing more details ( Subtitles in English). The third section was the one I enjoyed, and featured jewelry artifacts found in Romania as old as 1200 BC, and even one exhibit from 5250 BC ( See Stock photo : The Thinkers) .We visited on a hot summer day, and the only section that felt air conditioned was where the jewelry was. We bought tickets online, but the staff had some what of a hard time scanning them- but they were friendly, and we were able to get in. There are lockers for belongings, but nobody said anything about our backpack, so we brought it in. Admission was only $5.00, so all in all, a great value. Some of the explanation cards for exhibits were in Romanian and English, and others were only in Romanian. Photography is allowed ( no flash) and staff were pretty relaxed in regard to masks. I recommend a visit to this museum. It is affordable, and even though there are a small amount of exhibits right now, there are plenty of remarkable things to see.

14.2.2024 despite partial closure-impressive treasures chamber and very interesting exhibition about Ioan Curza and his statebuilding mission. Admission RON 20 adults, non commercial fotos free, good choice pf books in the shop and friendly staff!

Currently there's nothing to see here, just some gold and a copy of the column. Apparently there's no money to finance the renovation of the upper floors. They still charge you 20 Lei without hesitation, not even mentioning that you won't see anything interesting. You can walk in easily without having to buy a ticket - says everything. Not recommended!

The exhibition was really good, but I cannot understand why the museum cannot have the whole museum opened while they host temporary exhibitions. Also I found some of the staff unapproachable and reluctant to engage in conversations about the exhibition. The ladies at the shop were not helpful at all, in fact I would say they were borderline rude. Definitely not suitable for working for an institution as important as The National Museum. Hopefully, on my next visit will be met by people with more enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for history.

Fantastic museum! A beautiful viewing of the Trajan column panels and witnessing Romania’s origin story (of course from the Roman perspective). The displays are well curated and all signs are also in English. We spent 3+ hours.

Spent around an hour here - definitely worth a look especially as with a student ticket it cost less then £1! 🎟️ Make sure you visit the treasure room downstairs as it holds many ancient relics! 👑

Great collection of Romanian History objects and stories. Not much explained in English, and most of the staff doesn’t speak English at all. Great insights but not so exciting as a tourist

Nice collection of Romanian items. Many items from the war a lot of jewelry and some great ancient artifacts as well. Items from the Hellenic period, the Roman periods and on. Nice collection of the story panels that go on the Roman columns here. Would have been a little better for me if the war section had some English explanation as well as in Romanian. Much of the ancient purses do have English to help newest and the era and location they come from. All in all well worth the 20 lei for admission!

It is a museum to get plenty of information regarding the early history of Romania. You can buy a ticket at the entrance for 20 Lei and the tour would take around an hour. There is a separate section just for the famous Trajan’s column.

Huge treasure trove of artefacts on display spanning the entire period of Romania. A feast for the eyes and worth the trip but it lacks continuity and signs vary between overwhelmingly intense to brevity on a new level.

OBJECTIVES: • MOl: Establishing a stronger professional and personal evolution in the competence of our volunteers regarding their cultural management abilities, values of non-formal education and learning about Romanian history and culture through multicultural methods. • MO2: Increasing the number of the beneficiaries that come in contact with the ESC programmes while it is made sure that they are made as known as possible, not only in the museum field, but all other types of public institutions as well. • MO3: Raising the level of solidarity within the community by interactions between various groups, support of everyone's own personal and cultural identity while developing a joint European identity.

I was surprised at the diversity of exhibits, especially the Trajans Column in "exploded" form. The jewellery on display in the lower level was astounding for its intricacy - I believe that Russia still has treasure plundered after the second World War. Also interesting was the Childhood display from the Communist era, certain toys made in China being copies of American toys!

Nice selection of historical items. Could be displayed a bit better perhaps, and it would have been amazing to see an exhibition about Ceausescu history, photos of Bucharest before and after Communism etc. as I believe this is extremely relevant. Nonetheless, a nice visit.

Lovely way to spend the afternoon - lots of interesting historical artefacts. We didn’t find out until the end that many of the artefacts were copies. Which makes sense as we wondered why some of them were so exposed - you could touch the marbles, concrete etc. for Ron 5 it is absolute value for money. Be warned that there’s no air condition inside.

Very interesting museum in the centre of Bucharest. Historically and scientifically the most valuable part you will find in the first part of the building. The second part concists of writings, manuscripts and books. The third part is childrens' world with toys, games, music instruments and school equipment. This part of the museum turns your smile on!

Place is very beautiful! Especially the jewelry section! There is also a part with a sushi museum just at the right when you enter. The column was even huger than I expected! Majority of the text is translated into English, but the parts that aren’t have pictures so you would get the idea. Adult ticket is 20 lei, student is 5 lei (can be bought at the ticket office at the entrance and online. We got them at the tickets office)

They don't care about the Google My Business page, as they show here other opening hours than in reality. They are only open Wednesday to Sunday, 9 to 5pm. It's better you check their opening hours on their website, not here.

Don't visit! Ignore the reviews! My walking tour guide advised me not to visit. After seeing the reviews here I went anyway. It was a waste of time and money: This museum has no history of Romania exhibition. There is nothing on the long history of this region and how the country ended up in it's current form. Most of the museum has been closed due to a lack of funds (correct in November 2019). The museum has 4 exhibition spaces that are disconnected and contain little information in any language - 1 - The remains of a large column that tells the story of the Romans here. Very little information provided. 2 - A moderately interesting space with gold jewelry and objects mostly from the Roman era. 3 - A small Romanian toy museum 4 - A modern temporary exhibition highlighting some German/Romanian links with information in Romanian/German only. Nothing worth seeing here. Don't waste your time or money. I have no idea why there are such great reviews here. A true embarrassment for Romania! Far poorer countries can put together a few basic exhibits and maps to explain their own history.

The national museum is a true jewel. The Historical Treasure exhibition houses many objects that belonged to the Royal Family, as well as many other objects received as a gift. You can also admire the Getic and Dacian treasures. Among the priceless epigraphic and architectural artefacts from the Antique period and the Middle Ages, a copy of the extraordinary monument, the trajan's column is exibited. The segments are displayed horizontally. The column is one of the most distinctive sculptures to have survived the fall of Rome. My absolute favorite pieces are the antrophomorphic figurines called Hamangia people.

The museum is centered on the available artefacts, not on the eras and regions of Romanian history. You'll find mostly slabs and jewelry. There is a lot more to be added to the permanent exhibition that is currently sitting in regional museums around the country or outside of it. The national treasure vault is impressive, the price is worth the visit, but overall both the casings and the stationery info are hard to follow and deprecated.

Lots and lots and lots to see here, but the organization isn't as great as I've seen in other places. The main display by far is the reconstruction of the Trajan's Column from Rome. They've got the base and the first round of panels from that column reproduced and standing exactly as you'd find it in Rome. That's cool enough, but the best thing is that they have made exact copies of each of the panels that wrap up Trajan's column out of easy view...all on ground level and laid out in order. If you're interested in the history of the Romans in Romania, then you can spend hours walking from panel to panel enjoying in great detail what was carved in stone back in the second century CE. Besides that there's some pretty cool silver and gold stuff in the basement.

The two crowns were really dusty and that of the king, which was made of the steel of a cannon, if you look closely you can see small points of rust. Sin. I'm not aware, maybe that's how they should be kept, although I've seen exhibitions before and each exhibit was enclosed in a glass box. I found the more current displays showing the fall of Nicolas Ceausescu some of the more interesting artifacts in this museum. There was also a room with jewels and armor as well as certain columns. The columns were ok. You can spend a few hours walking around and there were enough collections that you could likely find something of interest. Good visit for a rainy day.

This is a great museum dedicated to Romanian history. They also have a large replica of Trajan's Column along with many, many tombstones and grave markers that are hundreds of years old. You really need to take your time to look carefully at the exhibits because I nearly missed the fact that they have an actual letter written by Vlad Dracula, as well as several others written by other Voivodes of Wallachia during the same time period. It was a sight to see! In the basement vault, there is a huge display of gold artifacts spanning ancient history to modern times. It's a very impressive collection that includes some of the Romanian crown jewels.

A must visit place that takes you back in history with the variety of collection they have. It took us more than 3hrs to see the entire museum. Do not miss the Tezaurul room at the lower floor which contains a collection of precious metals, ornaments and other items used by the Dacians and the Royal family. They have a washroom facility and drinking water dispenser near the museum of toys, just carry a bottle with you. Entry fee is 20 RON per person. Nearest metro station Unirii, exit towards Centrul Vechi.

You will not find anywhere else in the world an identical copy of the Traian’s column! All 120+ panels are exposed individually and have detailed explanations. This is a testimony written in stone about the formation of Romania as a nation/country from the mix of the native Dacian population and the Romans. If you are passionate about history I would allocate at least two hours only for this portion of the exhibit. The treasury has an excellent selection of gold, silver and bronze items of archeological, historical and artistic value. In June 2022 when we visited, the museum offered a temporary exhibit about Romania’s WWII history There are lockers that one can use to store small sized bags/items (need a 50 bani coin to operate). During the summer entry is free for students!
