This was our third visit. The staff are lovely every time. The food is good in the restaurant. The rooms are very well-prepared cleaned. Some are much better than others. The ones at the top of the Mathouse are great. Lower down less so. Avoid 18 which has a car park view. A nice garden & dog-friendly. We shall return

Popped in for a drink while on a family walk. Wow the gin and tonic seemed expensive at Ā£12.50. Apart from that, nice surroundings in the beer garden and the food others were eating looked nice. Main bar was a cramped and service was a little slow. All in all, somewhere which was good for us on our walk but maybe not somewhere Iā€™d go as a regular.

The hotel is more a wedding venue and if you're looking for a quiet & peaceful place to stay dont go here, room 7 is above the bar area and is supposed to be a luxury room,!!! Bathroom cold & toilet cubicle has no expelair so holds the smell of a latrine. But on the bright side the staff are very helpful and pleasant, but overall them & the management dont have any concerns about how much noise is made by wedding guests day or late evening, all in all very dissatisfied and won't be using travel zoo again.

Don't judge a book by its cover.... beautiful building however this establishment is not customer friendly nor focused!! Woah, what an absolute crying shame, what was once a lovely old English pub filled with atmosphere and happy customers has become an incredible let down of an experiance. Visited yesterday (Saturday 12th August) with my incredibly patient partner to enjoy a few drinks and bite to eat. He went to the bar and purchased our drinks, thought it was odd when he eventually returned baring no real ale for himself which he was looking forward to sup on? He mentioned that all the pumps were not working, no alcoholic beverages in bottles and all that was available was soft drinks.... hmmm, I could see the pain upon his face yet being the person of positivity we opted to remain and tempt fate by ordering food. Off to the chaotic bar he went and placed our food order.... nearing an hour later half the order appeared. We waited for the rest of it to appear, to no avail.... we had noted that other diners were receiving other diners orders and confusion provided by staff was prevalent. My partner went to the bar to inquire as to where the rest of the order was only to be greeted with the demand of his receipt to prove payment by the very same member of staff who took the initial food order! Hmmm not impressed!! I went to the bar to seek remedy....more.uhmming and ahhing by the same member of staff who took the food order... full refund provided by a different staff member, no apology. Ironically there were many other diners leaving the pub dissatisfied with service and lack of available beverages and food quality if/when it appeared. There are evidently training issues which need to be addressed Absolutely zero level of customer service and customers comparing complaints quite openly...... Will not be going back unless I learn of new staff and management team... I can confirm, they cannot arrange a p@@s up in a brewery due to lack of alcohol and competence!!

We attended a wedding here and stayed overnight. It's a great venue. Everything in one place. Plenty of parking available free for guests. There's a lovely pub. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very good but we only had the catered dinner at the wedding and breakfast in the morning, which was a small buffet style.

Lovely, cosy, friendly pub. Staff seemed over stretched, aware but asking us to wait. I ordered the pie and was disappointed it was a pastry top only, no pastry sides or base, which isn't a pie in my book, filling was tasty though and good chips too.

Stopped here for a drink after a walk. Stunning beer garden. But we wouldn't come again - the prices are outrageous - 2 pints, one packet of crisps, some olives came to Ā£17. Coming here from London that seems dear. Furthermore, my husband and I both dealt with the landlady separately and she was quite unpleasant for the simplest of requests. Why work in hospitality if you don't like interacting with people?!

Excellent service, great food. Beautiful surroundings. The cottage rooms had everything that you would need, though a little compact especially with two small dogs.

Been in this hotel many years ago and had some good memories. Stopper there for a drink after a walk and foind the prices quite high, the atmosphere is nice. You can sit in front of the fire and stay cosy while outside is freezing.

Booked our wedding here last year. The only thing good about this place was the food served. Shame the staff had thrown all our leftover buffet food even when we had asked them to save it. They also lost a few of our wedding items. Some of the staff were ok but others seemed like they haven't got a clue at all and just "made up" responses to our inquiries. We asked if we could use smoke bombs and sparklers for our wedding. We were told these were not allowed- only to find out days later from their social media post that these were encouraged at weddings! The GM Mr Taylor said that they would reimburse us for the lost items. We emailed him but still have had no reply.

Excellent service, big room, basic, but everything that I needed was there. Big parking, good bed, quiet surroundings, good shower and powerful hairdryer, good breakfast. For dinner I ordered fish&chips and that wasn't to my taste.. the rest was fine

All staff very helpful, friendly, dog accommodating and nothing too much trouble. Everywhere in the premises was clean and comfortable, and room allocation for those with dog companion of excellent facilities and good standard. (Could do with better lighting over the pathway to the cottages and a chair in the room.) Food is top notch in the restaurant but best not to leave time to get breakfast until the last minute especially at a weekend when there are eg wedding events being catered for!! Superb, beautiful village setting and will be visiting again with doggo (will try to train him with new tricks to show off with by next visit).

A wonderful couple of days spent here, very clean and well presented rooms, food excellent and the staff were beyond good! Always pleasant and helpful. The surrounding area was delightful and all in all made for a much needed five star break, would fully recommend.

Lovely "Olde Worlde" type pub. set in a small village close to the river, ideal for a drink after a leisurely walk. Was astounded when I offered cash to pay for some drinks to be told the cash register had no change at all and I could therefore only pay by card!! Not everyone believes in or lives in a cashless society. This said the beer was good and the surrounding were comfortable.
