This museum is almost completely the collection of one person. It is a GORGEOUS building that is worth admiration itself. The interior garden is breathtaking, especially coming from the cold outside and walking into a tropical garden. A very nice and eclectic collection of ancient Egyptian, Classical Greek and Roman, and neoclassical (I believe) Danish/French sculpture. The highlight for me were the Rodin pieces. I also enjoyed the information posted in the rooms that led you through the advancing time periods.

One of the place must visit at Copenhagen. Wonderful 3 hours to stay here for the Brilliant art pieces and sculptures. And it opens till 9 pm for few days per week. Those sculptures are amazing and dramatic. You will know more about Danish and French art, and there are mummy exhibition too. Impressive.

This is the private collection of Carl Jacobson, of Carlsberg beer fame. It contains mainly Danish and some French painters from the late 1800s, and a great deal of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman statuary, mainly from tombs. They had a special exhibit, that was great, of a Spanish painter. The museum is relatively small, and free on the last Wednesday of every month. It was interesting, and it is easy to get through the museum in 1-2 hours.

This is one of the best and a must visit site in Copenhagen. The atrium is absolutely beautiful and worth visiting by itself. The galleries and exhibits within were very unique and beautiful. We spent a good chunk of the day exploring all the floors and rooms. Definitely worth paying the high ticket price to experience it.

Really beautiful museum in the city centre. The Egyptian, roman and Greek collection of statues and art pieces is excellent. The Danish an french sculpture collection is quite interesting too.

Comprehensive antiquities collection with extensive Greek, Roman and Egyptian sculpture and artifacts. There is also a large, diverse collection of Danish artists and sculptors. There are also rotating exhibits as well. Museum is huge and spread out so plan for a lot of walking and there are a lot of stairs to the different levels. Also has an excellent cafe with drinks and lunch food served until 3:00 pm. The pastries are excellent. Tuesdays are free admission. You can pay for a locker as small backpacks and bags have to be stored and cannot be taken into the exhibits.

Amazing museum with sculptures and paintings from different decades and most of them from Danish artists. Really nice journey through the museum passing by the beautiful greenhouse located at the center of the building with lots of greenery from all over the world. Marvelous atmosphere and a must see place to take some nice pictures 😜

I absolutely adored this museum! A must see for every “statue-interested-person”! There was a lot to see from paintings to statues to mummies! The food and drinks in the cafe were great with a pleasant atmosphere! Definitely worth a visit and don’t forget to plan enough time for your visit as I had only 2,5 hours to see everything and sadly didn’t manage

Fantastic museum! Very large and plenty to see. Egyptian, Greek, Roman, French and Danish art to look at, can easily be here for 2+ hours. If your bag is above a certain size, it needs to be put in a locker which costs 22DNK. You get 20 back if you recycle your token when finished. Beautiful museum and really enjoyed our time there.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the sculpture collection here. It rivals some of the best museums in the worlds sculpture collection in my opinion. The interior garden courtyard is beautiful and they have a nice collection of danish and impressionist art. Also they have a Degas little dancer age 14 that they made a new replica skirt for (and kept the older one on display). It was great to see what it looked like in the late 1800’s. I’ve seen 4 other little dancers and this was my favorite.

Amazing museum. This is a great example of a museum well curated without needing “big name” art. The winter garden is beautiful and sets the tone for the rest of the visit. The focus is mainly on sculptures but they have a nice collection of paintings and throughout the museum there are audio points that I would recommend not be skipped. Very interactive and make what could be a boring explanation into a very interesting story. The highlight for me was all the details on the floors and ceilings, it just adds to the whole thing and it’s truly beautiful.

Best museum in Copenhagen by far! It is really big, we spent almost 4h looking at the different exhibitions, and we were fast. If you really spend enough time there you could be there for a whole day watching the amazing exhibitions and the art. My favorite spot was the winter garden with beautiful plants and palm trees. Would definitely recommend this to everyone and I'd visit it anytime again.

Very nice museum with a lot of interesting and beautiful paintings and sculptures, you definitely need to set aside a day to see everything. The museum is conveniently located and they have free entrance on Tuesdays, which is very nice. You can't access with bags but they have a locker room (to close a locker you'll need a special token OR a DKK 20 coin. There's a machine where you can buy tokens. At the end of the day when you open the locker you get your coin/token back and you can exchange the token to get your money back). Inside the museum you can take a break with a nice cup of coffee or something to eat, while you relax and look at the beautiful garden.

I thoroughly enjoyed this museum (even though the permanent French Art exhibits were temporarily closed. Your experience may vary greatly depending on the current or special exhibits, but nonetheless I recommend this museum and definitely suggest visiting the rooftop terrace as well as taking some extra time to enjoy the huge indoor atrium with fountain.

Review regarding the art is 10/10. It's so rich, in different epochs and styles, really impressive and very well presented. The garden is beautiful and well maintained. What could be improved: 1. Heating - it was cold in most of the rooms. I assume maybe it can not be too hot where the paintings are (?), but it is really cold to be there without your jacket on 2. Food in the caffe - The museum is big and you could easily spend the whole day there. So most likely, you will eat something. The current menu is really poor, food is of good quality but super blend and basic. It was not seasoned at all and was really hard to eat. 3. Security staff breaths behind your neck, so it was awkward for a few moments 😳😀

Very calming place with fantastic art from various periods and regions. Special exhibitions are always very interesting. The garden inside is beautiful and impeccably looked after. You do not have to be a history or art expert to enjoy this place. And please do not forget about amazing food and coffee.

Great collections of sculptures and paintings. But there’s a serious lack of seats especially where the texts on the walls are long, or where the pieces themselves are so big, and worth sitting in front of them for a bit. The Egyptian part is wonderful. The Palmyra room is very unique. It was the first time I see anything from this ancient kingdom. It is a must museum for sure. And it takes not less than 2 hours. You might prefer to start with the most interesting parts for you, because towards the end of your tour you might be tired, overwhelmed and not able to read and focus (while standing). When I was there the toilets were not clean, as in all museums in this super clean city. And it wasn’t a tourism season! (September). The staff there is very friendly.

Very nice museum! Two special exhibits -- Rodin and Gauguin collections. Both bodies of work are obviously very famous and awesome. Gauguin exhibit was focused more on his influence rather than extensive collection of his paintings. But, it was good.

I am a tourist from Indonesia and this is the first time I have come here and had a memorable new experience. To enter the gallery, I use the Copenhagen card. I came in the afternoon and at that time quite a lot of visitors. Here you can see paintings and sculptures from Europe. This place is suitable to be visited with a partner or alone. You can feel inspired when you leave here. At the bottom of the gallery there is also a beautiful garden and gift shop.

The building itself is gorgeous and it is a delight to explore the huge array of artefacts! I found the lighting of displays particularly great, with the museum fairly quiet, spacious and clean. Spent a good few hours ambling around and enjoyed a delicious tea in the cafe overlooking the beautiful atrium before I left.

Very pleasant place to spend a few hours. Had various exhibits from around Europe and Africa (including a comprehensive area about Egypt). Cool courtyard and very nice and calm inside. No crowds or line for me, although I did come on a weekday afternoon. Convenient to reach in Copenhagen, and near quite a few other main attractions.

Great museum. Large variety of art and sculptures from all over the world. There was a lovely free clay class, where you made your own little tile. That was a very fun surprise. The area inside is gorgeous and there are over 20 rooms full of art, so it will take quite a bit of your time to see it all. But definitely recommend going here, it was very nice.

Fascinating Experience – Mummies Stole the Show! My visit to the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen was a captivating journey into art and history. Among the many intriguing exhibits, what truly stood out for me were the mummies. The way they were preserved and showcased was both eerie and mesmerizing. The museum's presentation of these ancient relics was incredibly informative, shedding light on the culture and practices of the past. The mummies managed to hold my attention in a profound way, giving me a unique glimpse into an ancient world. The delicate details and the stories they held within their wrappings were truly awe-inspiring. While the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek offers a rich variety of artworks and artifacts, the mummies undoubtedly left the strongest impression on me. If you're a history enthusiast or simply curious about the mysteries of the past, don't miss the chance to explore these remarkable artifacts that add a captivating dimension to the museum's collection.

This museum was a beautiful collection of art pieces with a big variety of types of art. Aside from the art, the building itself is stunning with it’s indoor garden. I would highly recommend visiting here when you’re in Copenhagen. On Tuesdays the entrance to the main parts of the museum is free, which can save you a lot of money!

I’d say it’s a must visit if you are into art. It’s a beautiful museum with a large collection of Greek, Roman and Egyptian sculptures and artifacts. They also have art pieces of Danish artists. The museum isn’t too big and 2/3 hours should be enough to see everything. Their winter garden is absolutely stunning and there you can find a cafe which has nice drinks and pastries. If you are on a low budget, consider visiting it on Tuesdays because the admission is free (for everyone!).

Amazing museum with a great collection of antique and modern sculptures and paintings of French impressionism and Danish golden age paintings. You can find paintings from Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh … The museum is large, so plan to have at least 5 hours when visiting. There is also a coffee place in the middle and amazing winter garden where you can have a break and visit their souvenir shop. There is a rule that you cannot go inside with backpack, but you can leave it in a locker in the basement and pick it up on your way out. Free entrance on Tuesdays. Worth the visit if you are in Copenhagen

Nice museum with interesting pieces of art from ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Romans and Etruscans. Once in there, must see the mummies and sarcophagus. There's a lot of Danish art and some famous french artists. My favorite part was to see some research work on how some pieces of art might have looked like when they were sculptured.

Comfortably the most visually stunning museum I have visited. The winter garden and rooftop terrace are must visits at the Glyptoteket as the atmosphere is absolute perfection. The lighting of the Winter Garden even adjusts as the sun goes down. The cafe is fabulous too and serves tasty coffee. The art and artifacts themselves are so impressive, with the Rodin room being a personal highlight. Finally, the Roman and Greek statue collections are jaw dropping and is laid out beautifully. The Egyptian collection is also phenomenal and the mummies are displayed in a really interesting way which feels respectful to the culture.

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen offers a serene and enriching cultural experience. The museum's diverse collection, featuring art and sculptures from various eras, creates a tranquil atmosphere for appreciating history and creativity. Mummies and the Greek era are definitely highlights. Highly recommend for those seeking a refined cultural outing. Expect to spend around 1.5hrs in here.

One of my favorites. It's incredible how the achitecture of the buildings complements the artwork and makes it a worthwhile experience. It will take about 3 hours for the exhibitions visit -- and maybe another 1-2 hours depending on whether you'd like to stay back for a meal / grab some coffee.

  • 5/5 Cristina J. 2 years ago on Google
I didn't think it was going to be so big and so much to see. We were there for more than 2 hours and I felt like I need to go back just to see the exhibits again. That's just the regular exhibit, there is a special one for a fee. We went on a Tuesday so entrance was free. They have a nice cafe and a cool greenhouse area. I definitely recommend this place if you're ever in Copenhagen.

I absolutely loved this museum. The collection is so varied, and even having been to various museums in Italy, I was amazed by the extensive collection of Roman sculpture. The Rodins are beautiful and there are some other beautiful French sculptors to discover too. The cafe is located in the beautiful winter garden and has a great menu. I went on a Tuesday when I was surprised to discover that the museum is free - I just had to pay for the temporary exhibition. I really recommend this museum!

Impressive collection, with friendly and helpful staff. Keep an eye out for the orange marked plaques from contemporary Danish writers weighing in on the works - some prompted good reflection and a laugh. It was not too busy on a Wednesday. No wait to buy tickets, and they have <27/student discounts available. Was able to walk around holding my jacket and wearing a small crossbody bag without having to store anything (was worried about having to faff about with lockers as other reviews said). Definitely recommend a visit!

Very quiet for a major museum! We went right when it opened and only really ran into maybe 3 school groups. The guides were kind and the collections well-identified. The rooms were very warm though so I would recommend dressing lightly.

Incredible museum in art and ancient history. I really LOVE the arrangement of the museum with the small middle room which has a botanical flair and the surrounded floors. The area with the ancient remains is so beautiful! You should see it.

Best museum I've seen in my life! The hole building is so well preserved (from the floors, walls and ceiling) and it had a good amount of art in it, unlike most which have far too much stuff.. there were also barely any glass cages around the sculptures which made it easier to see and apreciate. The staff were a bit rude, but the building itself and set up, fenomenal. Recommend 100%!

a great visit to the museum. I was on the last Wednesday of the month and therefore had free access. I recommend the exhibition in the new area of the building about the history of the building. there is also access to the terrace with a view of the surroundings. I arrived close to opening time and there was already a queue keep in mind that if you arrive with slightly larger luggage, you will be asked to put your things in the wardrobe. for that you need a 20 crown currency. or you can buy a special token (paying with the card) and later you can recover that token at the machine where you paid it, only to receive 20 crowns in cash

It’s a must see when you are in Copenhagen. The tropical jungle hall in the middle of the museum is truly an experience and very unique. I loved the curation of art and the whole atmosphere and light in the museum and are thankful for an inspiring afternoon.

Lovely art and history museum very conveniently located. The ancient Egyptian mummy and artifacts are definitely worth the visit. I also really enjoyed the collection of Roman and Greek figures... heads placed at eye level for a good view of expression and details. I note that individuals with mobility issues would have difficulty navigating all of the steps and stairs, inaccessible washroom, etc. The tropical winter garden makes for a cafe setting that feels like a holiday, unfortunately it also made the whole museum feel like the sweltering humidity of the tropics even in early September... The temperature was really uncomfortably warm given the wonderful weather outside.

Gorgeous old building with a wonderful exhibit of ancient Egyptian artifacts as well as Roman. Danish and French painters and more. Very good cafe and lovely little gift shop. The center has a covered garden with koi pond and seating where you can picnic. Outside is a sculpture garden anyone can access.

Amazing collection of Greek, Egyptian and Roman pieces. Free entry on a Tuesday. So much you can easily spend 2 days, I didn't get to see any of the art pieces as I enjoyed the ancient European history. Large hot house atrium. You must check bags and are not allowed to take bottles in. Bar on roof was closed when we visited.

What a fantastic museum with a great collection of sculptures. Of course, the winter garden past the entryway is also such an incredible sight! Highly recommend just strolling through the rooms. Note that one needs to store all bags in lockers. One will need to pay for a coin that could then be returned for a 20 DKK coin piece.

  • 5/5 Sindre D. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely wonderful museum. The amount of antiquities they have in display is mind-boggling. They also have a lovely square in the middle with a fountain and loads of greenery under a glass roof. Would highly recommend going on Tuesday as it’s free entrance, but it gets quite busy as well. But we’ll worth it even if you have to pay for it, of course. Check out the rooftop as well for a nice break from the museum halls!

Wow. This museum is beautiful, way bigger than you think from the outside building. And I think we even missed some rooms, there are so many everywhere! If you're a sculpture aficionados, then this place is for you! The entry in the greenhouse is the most beautiful entry I've seen, ever. The current exhibition is around art renovation and is worth the visit!
