The other day at 1600 hours my stomach started talking to me and said hey Mike can we get a slice at Umbertos to hold us over!? I said of course a slice & a ice too! But my stomach said no ice let's not spoil our dinner! Umbertos on Wantagh Ave in the Cherry wood shopping center is one of the best pizza companies on long Island! They been slicing and dicing for many years and today I wanted scicilian which is probably their best slice but that is up for debate! The guy next to me with a strong Italian accent ordered 3 scicilian slices. I turned to him & said your scicilian huh! He said yea scicilian! I told him here's a fact I don't know if you know or not. Scicilian pizza was spawned in New York! He said come again and I said it's a fact you could look it up hundreds of years ago in Sicily they made pizza but it wasn't called scicilian it was called Sfincione which means sponge! And it didn't have cheese on it either just sauce, breadcrumbs & sautéed onions. But when you fast-forward to the early 1900s when scicilians came over to New York well that altered the style of the pizza! Because most scicilians worked in bakeries they had so much access to cheap mozzarella that it changed scicilian pizza forever. Now topped with sauce and mozzarella that's really New York scicilian pizza! Tell me am I lying?! He said wow you really know your pizza history! He said did you travel to Italy? I said no...google!!! FYI the Chicken Rollatini entree is awesome!

Always a good idea This place is a gem in this city. Umberto is amazing, his staff is friendly and helpful and his mom who’s cooking make the best Italian food. You usually have three dishes on the menu depending on the fresh ingredients they finds at the farmer market. I never ever been disappointed and love coming back with my friends or family. They have a huge terrasse far from the road and the design is on point! Highly recommend this place (and the wine)

I’ve been eating at Umberto’s of Wantagh for 18 years, I went there a few days ago for a couple of slices of Sicilian pizza. I brought it home and my wife asked me why I bought one slice cut in two. The slices were so small it looked like an Ellios pizza slice cut in two( you’ve all had I’t, you know the size), this Italian restaurant is the most expensive in the area, two slices of Sicilian pizza should fill up two elderly people. I think that they’re cutting a 12 slice pizza into 16 pieces. I know that prices are higher now, but 7 dollars for a slice of pizza cut in two is a bit much.

I went in for a quick lunch and while the pizza was okay the service was not. There were hardly anybody in the dining area but the area for non-waiter service was filled and I wanted to sit in the dining area and they refused. I think they need to teach their employees a bit about what constitutes appropriate and good customer service and what constitutes inappropriate customer service.

What should have been a happy occasion, celebrating a christening, was marred, by the manager yesterday at your restaurant...for nearly 2 hrs. our group, ate, drank and enjoyed each other's company. The serving staff were great. Near the end of our stay, when they are already serving cake, the manager told certain members of our party, that we were being too loud...its a party, there was no screaming, no profanity. Just people enjoying each other's company. Needless to say, not only will I not be returning to this establishment. I will advise family and friends to shun this restaurant as well.

Although their food is good their staff is seriously lacking common sense and manners. A phone line thats forever busy and a staff that turns people away at the door. Trying to use a pandemic as an excuse for bad manners is pathetic. Take ownership of the people you employ or get a better staff but have more class than to blame your ineptitude on the social global climate. Your staff lacked manners and sense before covid19 what's your excuse for that?

Don’t serve gluten free pasta and I am not sure why they would not and isolate an entire segment of potential customers. This is the only Italian restaurant I have come across that does not. To answer the owner reply: For you to purposely leave it off the menu when every single Italian restaurant on Long Island includes it tells me you are out of touch with the times and your customers. Anything that would prevent me from going to a restaurant would warrant a one star in my reviews. Instead of wondering why it’s one star, why not just serve it and appeal to a wider customer base? It is the simplest of all requests that can possibly be given to a restaurant and you get to charge $3 extra as a gluten free fee like all restaurants seem obliged to do.

Was at Umbertos in Wantagh of Wantagh ave and Jerusalem this past Friday night. I wasnt greeted by anyone and when I went to counter to order I had to say am.I allowed to order. The workers just stare at you looking all miserable. No personality in there what so ever. Id have to agree with the other reviews mentioned about the staffs personality. Obviosly if people keep mentioning it over and over its not the customers. Ordered an assortment of slices and to be honest not one slice was what I call great pizza. They were all horrible. 1st and last time there. I travel for good pizza so I will not travel to this place anymore. Try Emilios in Commack, Rosas Pizza in Maspeth, Pappardellis in Bethpage, Phils in Massapequa, Marios in Syosset or Marios in Westbury for great pizza and service without an attitude.

Ordered for pickup since we were shopping in the area. Pasta dishes were typical of a pizzeria and portions were pretty meager for the price compared to the local places we usually get food from. Maybe dining in is better but too many Italian restaurants on LI to waste another visit on.

2 stars for service. The food is great. Service, not so much. Generally, the girl that answers the phone has a bit of an attitude, which makes it a pain on pasta nights because the conversation is a bit longer. In any event, we've been ordering from them for almost the entire time we've lived in Bellmore. This year we moved within Bellmore, less than 5 minutes away. We ordered from them still, no problem. But this Sunday we got home from a weekend away and went to order and the girl says they don't deliver to our address. Tell her we just ordered a week ago, nasty response. Ask her to check, nasty response (and she doesn't). Whatever. Have been ordering from you for over 10 years. Have dined in too. No more.

I ordered a grandma pie and a margherita pie. I usually go to the Bellmore shop but this particular day it wasn’t possible. The pizza was so salty that we had to go get something else to eat. Even if I returned it , a new pizza would have been the same.

Nice place, friendly staff, good food and decent prices. Nice wine and desert selection as well. They are currently offering dine-in (you have to wear a mask while walking to/from your table/to the bathroom, but are (obviously) allowed to remove it once you are seated. The food is delicious. They have large tables available to accommodate large parties (although a reservation would be recommended). The atmosphere is decent, it is in a shopping center, but it does not feel like shopping center eating. They have a large back room section for traditional dining in, and a smaller front area for grabbing a quick bite or a slice. Quick service even for large groups. Recommended.

Ordered 2 sicilian slices , fried calimari and fried zucchini. Slices were great as usual but 2 fried orders tasted the same… like old burnt oil. Greasy old burnt oil. So basically paid $35 dollars for 2 slices. Sent them this say story directly but got no response. This is the second time this has happened. Need to change the oil more often guys.

A Thursday night. Ordered online. Website estimated 45 min delivery time. I didn’t receive my order until 2 hours later. All food was cold. This was our second experience. Never again. First time we ordered from them the pizza crust was entirely burnt. Update: Manager have us a call after I left our reviews. He was apologetic and comped our meals. It’s a appreciated. They are always very nice here. I’ll upgrade my stars.

The Delivery experience has been downhill over the past several months. Wait is usually an 1.5 to 2 hours. Pizza arrives burnt and cold or missing items from order. Last night was no different. Received the pie burnt crust, cheese stuck to top of the box and no dressing for the salad. I sent a message on Facebook to which Alexis called offering to deliver the dressing and another pie. I declined. They have since blocked me from their site. I thought businesses would appreciate knowing why they are losing a customer, so they can learn and improve. I guess not Umbertos. So if you like a dry salad, pizza with a burnt crust and refer to scrape your cheese off the lid of the box then I highly recommend this place. I guess those little plastic tables that keep the lid off the pie are too expensive……

Came here a few days ago for dinner was craving Italian food so heck why not, wasn’t very busy for dinner around 7pm, overall food was good enjoyed my salad, soup, chicken picatta , and slice of pizza. To start of course the bread came out but what surprise me was garlic knots as well! Nothing outstanding but had a good time enjoyed the food well, only trouble was felt the chicken entrée took a little too long to come out was almost 30 mins between the salad and the entrée to come and me being a big man haha I was hungry! I cannot talk about the shrimp as I am allergic but my friend did finish it so I’m sure it was good. But overall enjoyed my time here and will definitely make a come back sometime . Also ordered some slices to go and the cashier threw in an extra one on the house thought that was very nice.

Food is fine, called to place an order they said 45 minutes, that's fine even if it was a little longer. No problem. Problem is when you arrive for pickup tell the counter they then tell you its not ready yet. They collect your money. Problem is the counter girls never bother to check to see if your food comes out. The pizza maker takes it out and puts it on top of 3 other pies stacked atop the oven. It's been an ongoing issue, now it seems much worse. Cold pizza tonight for the last time. Never again.

Best pizza in Long Island hands down. Pro tip, order a full regular pie. You’ll get a much better experience than by the slice. Even if you don’t eat the whole pie it’s worth it for a fresh pie!!! We get a regular pie every Sunday night and they are always consistently good. If they say 20-30 min, that means 10-15mins ;)

Where should I start, Went here because people said it’s one the best pizza spots in Nassau. Worst mistake ever, pizza is average at best. What was really annoying was after I picked up my order the pizza was stone cold. I should have gone with my gut feeling that this wasn’t the place I should order my pizza from when the girl who answered the phone answered the phone like she was sick of taking people’s orders and didn’t want to be there. And she told me it would take 45 minutes for me to to take out 3 slices of cheese pizza. I convinced myself they must be that good and it will take them 45 minutes to heat up 3 slices of pizza. So I gave them a shot. My mistake. She sounded very arrogant and rude. I mean come on, 45 minutes to for 3 cheese slices of pizza. Imagined if I ordered other dishes, would it be ready by lunch time tomorrow ??? The pizza was STONE COLD. Why would you tell someone 45 mins to only to come to pick up cold pizza???? Management should talk to ppl taking phone orders and give their customers more of a realistic time. Now cost, if the food is good you pay what they ask I don’t mind that, but at least the service should match what you ask to charge. Service, one of the most arrogant places I every visited, I don't get were this place gets their higher than holy attitudes from, if you don’t like your job go do something else. Advice stay away, not worth the aggravation I’ve paid $1.00 for better pizza and service.

Went here because people said have to try. Worst mistake ever, pizza is horrible very bland and no taste. Being from the city they don't live up to other real pizzerias. Now cost, out of control, prices are ridiculous, but i guess that they are just taking advatage of people willing to just pay it. Service, one of the most arrogant places I every visited, besides la piazza on merrick road, I don't get were all these pizzerias get their higher than holy attitudes from, like their navy seals or something, bro you make and serve pizza. Advice stay away, not worth the aggravation or price.

I dined in the restaurant section with my family. It's always a pleasure coming to eat here. The wait staff is fridnly, knowledgeable, and dedicated to making your dining experience enjoyable. The menu has everything you'd expect in an Italian restaurant. Having garlic knots in the bread basket is a huge plus. The food is delicious from start to finish. There is a good reason Umberto's reputation is so well known. Superior quality.

$19 ravioli w Alfredo sauce no salad or vegetable. Server no welcome at all or positive. Nothing to indicate that grateful for business or providing her livelihood. Nothing but writing down what I want telling me that the meal will be overpriced and incomplete and she does not care if I eat here again or go somewhere else. And she expects at least 15% GRATUITY from me for taking my plate from the kitchen to the table. Which in this atmosphere, I would just as soon do myself and be as satisfied with the restaurant. So maybe GRATUITY should work both ways if that is what we are choosing to call this particular act . It just came. "Ravioli" was announced. I guess I was supposed to remind her that it was my order. Oh great. 6 ravioli! 6! They also offer a SMALL size for 3$ less. 16$+15% for what? 3? Maybe they should call it what it is. The entire evolution. A lie. A shakedown. Do it right if you have the nerve to change and ask for a GRATUITY. DO something I should be GRATEFUL for. Please. Enjoy Umberto's. Tell them I sent you.

Food is excellent!!!! My only disappointments are: 1) No one came around to fill my water glass. Carafe of water left on the table & not refilled when it was empty. I like when someone refills my glass, especially when dining in the back dining room. 2) Gets very noisy. This is not the restaurants problem, but there are 3 dining areas. When dining in the back dining room, I do expect things to be more peaceful. I expect a better experience in the back dining room, not the same treatment or noise as they have way up in the front "pizza & soda" dining area. Food is excellent. Everyone in my party was extremely satisfied with their meal. Portions are large. Sauce did not give me heartburn. Salads are fresh. Chicken is tender. Seafood is fresh. Prices are just as they should be. Going here you get great food for the $. There were 5 in our party and check was under $200. (No one had alcoholic drinks). Overall, do recommend if you can deal with the noise. If not, go before 4:00 pm.

Food is good but my expectations fell a little short just because of the hype around Umberto's name. It's a pizza and restaurant as good as most That's not taking anything away from them. The food and the service is great but everyone hypes it up like it's better than everyone else in my opinion, this is a great Italian spot. But It doesn't deserve the pedestal it has.

  • 5/5 Jonathan L. 2 years ago on Google
Simply terrific. The Sicilian pizza was out of this world. Not to mention the lasagna was like an Italian grandmother was in the back cooking. The place is huge but separated into different size rooms so you do not feel lost. This place is good for a slice or a party of 300 people.

Umberto's in Wantagh, NY has been around a very long time and their food speaks for themselves. Very authentic Italian cuisine. I can't complain about any dish that I have gotten from them. One of the best pizzas I have had. They have a full menu, so you can't go wrong with your selections. The staff is, also friendly and work really hard.

Umberto”s of Wantagh is the best restaurant!! Everything on the menu tastes fabulous! They have the most amazing food from pizza to pasta one of my favorites is eggplant parmigiana it is delicious the best! We go there often because it is always dependable and there isn’t anything to compare it to. So good..

My family used to go here all the time until we moved away 10 years ago. But being back in town for a few days, I had to stop here for dinner with my husband and parents. We got an antipasti salad, a large cheese pie with 2 meatball slices, and shrimp fra diavolo. I just had 2 slices of the pie and a garlic knot. It was still as excellent as I remember. I missed this. Just the right amount of oil, thin crust (a little too burnt), and just the right flavors and sauce/cheese ratio.

Umberto's is a nice local pizzeria and restaurant in Wantagh. Its family friendly and they have a lot of options to choose from. The staff are friendly and the premises is clean. The decor is nice but very standard and nothing flashy. Food: When we ordered we decided to sit down and eat but we still ordered from the counter. There they have a variety of specialty slices and they will heat them up straight away depending on the queue. What we got was Buffalo Chicken, Alla Vodka, Chicken Ranch and Grandma with Broccoli Rabe and Sausage. All the slices were ok but I did like the Buffalo Chicken and Alla Vodka the best! They also have a good selection of classic Italian dishes that I will have to try in the future when I am back in Wantagh! Overall Opinion: Umberto's is a nice local pizzeria and its a good option if you are looking for a family friedly restaurant in the Wantagh area!

Umberto's Italian Restaurant & Pizza in Wantagh is "The Best of the Best" of all the Umberto's on Long Island! Manager Herbert and his staff provide excellent service to go along with their meticulously prepared array of Italian dishes. My favorite is Calamari Arabiata ... and wait staff Albero, Wendel & Jackie are the best too!

First of all a whole fight broke out which was understandably wasn't the workers fault but still disrupted the atmosphere. Secondly, the pizza is excellent but there sauce tastes more like tomato soup than sauce and wasn't that great. Also the service wasn't that good either. All I drank was water and I had to wait about 10 minutes for them to finally come over so I could ask for more water instead of then coming over once in a while to refill it

Solid pizza. I drive from two towns over through bustling LI traffic to get a taste of their wonderful pizza. The sauce is what makes a good pizza and man, do they nail that taste. Not too sweet, not bland. It has a real authentic taste that isn’t watered down or taste like someone rubbed a zested tomato in my tongue. The chicken roll is absolutely perfect especially when reheated. Their buffalo slice is superb. The garlic knots have just the right balance of taste that they will ruin all other knots. I wish they did have a greater drink selection but if that is my biggest issue, then it really isn’t one.

Umberto's is a consistently wonderful place to come for food & good service. The food is always delicious - I'd recommend the hot antipasto to start. Their "lite" meals are always a hit - grilled chicken with escarole or broccoli rabe or shrimp parmigiana - the pasta is always cooked al dente. Everyone from the managers to the bus boys are truly lovely. Will continue to enjoy this restaurant!

If any of you have ever eaten at this restaurant you will know that it is by far one of the absolute best restaurants on Long Island. We've used them for numerous parties and events since the kids were little. Never ever had a complaint, never ever have they messed up anything, never ever had a bad time. Yesterday they treated us like queens and kings it was absolutely fantastic. Accordion player Papa Joe played songs for us at the table, one of them was the wedding song from my in-laws who were the only people that came with us to this event. They did my oldest daughters sweet 16 in January which was simply amazing. Umberto's you are the most fantastic restaurant and we love you. . #Umbertoswantagh

So delish I feel the need to add to the review i made a while ago, as the food is delish and that hasn't changed. I have been coming here a while but I have to say, unless you know the manager or eat more then grabbing a quick slice, he is so cold and unwelcoming. The least he could give is a quick "hi" when the place is near empty. But had time to to hold a long convo with families dining, and noone makes sure the tables are clean - which during covid times, is just frustrating.

Best pizza place in miles. It's a bit pricey but believe me it's worth it. I love the chicken buffalo and deep dish. I was happy to see they extended their pick up waiting area.

I can't say enough good things about Umberto's of Wantagh. My husband and I have been coming here for years. We will dine in or take out pretty much on a weekly basis, even despite our recent move to Babylon. We can't stay away! The food is exceptional, and the service is second to none. The bartender makes the most delicious cocktails, and the manager is always so accommodating. 10/10 highly recommend!
