Having
recently
moved
to
Miami,
finding
a
new
dentist
was
high
on
my
to-do
checklist,
and
even
higher
on
my
list
of
things
to
dread.
Based
on
past
experiences
‘dentists
shopping’
was
likely
to
be
a
long,
arduous,
trial
and
error
that
ultimately
led
me
right
back
to
my
old
dentist
in
Manhattan
(quite
a
commute
from
Miami,
but
good
dental
care
is
so
very
hard
to
find).
Imagine
my
surprise
then
hitting
the
jackpot,
with
Dr.
Kottar,
on
my
first
try.
I
entered
the
quiet,
clean,
modern
office
and
was
surprised
that
my
husband
and
I
were
the
only
folks
there
–
Dr.
Kottar
reserved
the
entire
afternoon
for
our
new
patient
check-up
and
cleaning.
I
sat
in
the
chair,
fiddling
anxiously
–
an
early
childhood
trauma
has
left
me
dental
phobic
–
but
Dr.
Kottar
quickly
put
me
at
ease.
His
exam
was
both
gentle
and
unbelievably
through.
He
actually
did
the
cleaning
himself,
and
when
the
noise
of
the
machines
triggered
my
anxiety,
he
completed
the
cleaning
by
hand.
He
is
a
conservative
dentist,
who
avoids
aggressive
dental
intervention
so
instead
of
ending
the
appointment
with
the
list
of
new
fillings
and
crowns
I
‘needed’,
I
got
recommendations
for
home
care
to
help
preserve
my
oral
health,
including
tutorials
on
new
flossing
and
brushing
techniques.
I
want
to
explicitly
call
out
that
2
past
new
dentists
had,
on
first
exam,
suggested
replacing
perfectly
good
crowns
(each
dentist
a
different
crown,
both
crowns
I
got
second
opinions
on
and
was
told
they
were
in
excellent
shape)
and
filling
dark
spots
that
were
not
cavities;
I
know
how
critical
it
is
to
find
someone
who
aligns
with
my
own
conservative
intervention
philosophy,
and
more
importantly,
who
I
trust.
If
you
too
are
one
of
Miami’s
many
newcomers,
or
you
are
just
looking
for
a
new
dentist
you
can
trust,
look
no
further
than
Dr.
Kottar.
