Stopped in hoping to grab a couple of pints and some fish and chips to share with the group. The chips were good, but the fish itself was not great. The fish wasn't fully cleaned, so we kept pulling scales out of our teeth as we ate. The batter also didn't seem fully cooked and was soggy around the fish. Service was almost non-existent, but the atmosphere itself was nice.

We were out exploring evening Cork, and wanted a traditional Irish dinner. We went from pub to pub, restaurant to restaurant, and found either no food at all, or burgers and chips, or Italian, French, Middle Eastern, or Asian. Every pub owner/bar tender/bouncer we talked to recommended a different place, and each place failed to have traditional Irish foods. We ended up pulling up Google Maps, and searching for beef Guinness stew, with Thomond Bar coming up as the only result. Going straight there, we found a full menu, excellent service, and delicious food. Had a bit of a cultural differences moment when we asked for a black and cider, sort of like a black and tan, but with cider instead of light beer, and were greeted with a blank stare. It ended up being called a Half and Half in Ireland. Black and Tans were constables recruited into the Royal Irish Constabulary in the 1920s, and were known to burn down Irish homes/businesses, and kill pro-Irish independence civilians. A history lesson, a meal, and some delicious beer and cider, all in the span of an hour!

Efficient and quick service! We ended up having a tasty lasagna and a chicken & salad sandwich. 😋 It was a good price for the busy area of cork city centre.

What a fabulous pub for food. Always top quality and quantity as well. Prompt service from friendly staff. Great sports bar as well. Had the "full irish breakfast" today and wow, what a feed. Great location in City centre.

This is a traditional Irish pub in the centre of cork city. We ordered the bacon and cabbage and fish and chips. We waited at the door for at least 10 mins as the sign said wait to be seated for food, a waitress eventually got us seated and we proceeded to wait for menus for another 10 mins so we just asked for the menus instead. The bacon and cabbage was lovely, the portion sizes were massive . I was disappointed with my fish and chips order as the fish was dry and overcooked. Our waiter was really polite and the food arrived fairly quickly . When we went up to pay we told the person at the bar where we were sitting and I was handed the wrong bill. I told her my order and she gave me the correct bill however the bill did not reflect the prices on the menu. For example the menu said bacon and cabbage was 14.50 we paid 15.50 and fish chips 16.50 we paid 17 euros. I had a Baileys on the rocks and that was a rip off for 7.40. We are not tourist and we just wanted some pub grub so be prepared to pay tourist prices.

Very typical Pub (old school!) Menu with good variety, even better choices of drinks and draft beers. Bartenders prepare your beer glass to perfection. Good stop to refuel yourself in downtown!

Here, they serve Full Irish Breakfast all they long. It has so many different items and each is prepared excellently. Egg (soft, sunny side up), variety of sausages, hashbrown, fries, beans, butter etc. Make sure to go hungry.

Had lunch there today. Nice place, pleasant staff and good atmosphere. Realise it was a busy weekend with the jazz festival on but I'm afraid our lunch experience was not good. I had the bacon and cabbage. It had either been lying in the oven or zapped in a microwave as the bacon was burnt and hard on the edges, cabbage underneath was unusually tasteless and the potatoes were lumpy and tasted reheated. The parsley sauce was nice and used to disguise flavour. Other order was fish and chips. Chips were nice but fish also tasteless . Two very simple dishes and delicious when done right but afraid today's were not. Lovely spot for a drink, but based just on today can't recommend food.

Was on a hunt for cottage pie and this place was surprisingly one of the few I could find in Cork serving it! Unfortunately it was pretty bad. I could only bring myself to eat like half of it. The mashed potatoes were… gluey? That’s the best way I can describe them, but they were pretty gross and the ratio was like 2/3 mashed potatoes and 1/3 beef/veggie mixture. The Bailey’s coffee was great though, and the staff were super welcoming and friendly!

The inside of the store is quiet and there are plenty of seats available. The staff was very kind and the food was very delicious. Every dish served with mashed potatoes is delicious. If you want to eat food with beer, I recommend you to go here

Best pub I’ve seen in Cork so far! Really nice pub with a retro sport’s atmosphere! I went for lunch and enjoyed the full Irish breakfast with a pint of Murphys! It was cool then to have a look to the different photo/jersey on the walls. 👍🏻 I’ll come back 🙂

Needed somewhere to eat and fell on The Thomond. Amazing atmosphere, the bar was full and not a miserable face in sight. We ordered the chicken gougons and it really didn't disappoint. The food came quickly and was fresh and hot. Would highly recommend to anyone

Really lovely place with welcoming staff and really really good food. We had a cottage pie and bangers&mash and it was stunning. Highly recommended for a low-cost but good bite.

Thomonds has a really nice atmosphere. Lots of comfy booths for meet ups with friends. There are also tables on the street which are perfect for watching the city amble by when the weather is fine. There's a great selection of draught pints. And cocktails for when you're out-out!

A fine wee bar. Good sports on Tv and good Guinness. Food was good. Worth a visit

Not the best place Starting with getting a table. Waiting at the entrance where multiple wait staff walked passed us and ignored us. Without so much as a “be right with you”(this should have been first clue to leave) Not sure if the staff are new or what .. but honestly so unorganised and just not good at it. Food was “okay” I really wouldn’t rush back for food any time soon.

One of the best beef stew I've had. And soup was delicious too. Lovely staff and just a nice old fashion atmosphere very recommend.

We have been here so many times and have always been happy with the food, service and friendly staff! A special Thanks to Kian! …then finally a place in Cork that has Smithwicks!

The sandwich board outside said they served the best traditional Irish stew in Ireland. It's certainly the best I have ever had. Amazing.

Fantastic pub, fantastic food, fantastic drinks. As a Manchester United fan, I enjoyed seeing all the memorabilia, shirts, scarfs, pictures. The first pub I walk into in Cork, and I find all of this. Absolutely amazing.

I ordered a Full Irish breakfast at 5 p.m. and it still was served 😋 love it as it is my favourite dish of any time of day. It was €11.50 and a bottle of cola, glass 330ml, was €3.20 which is quite funny, but I'm not here to judge. French fries was slightly overcooked, while egg was slightly undercooked, but otherwise it was tasty. Ambiance was charming and relaxing, staff was friendly and service was quick, definitely recommend 👌

Great good. Came in one evening on my own for dinner. Their beef and Irish stew was good. Nice big portion as well. It wasn't a busy night when I went, maybe why harder to meet/chat with others but everyone seemed to be in their own group/world/whatever.

Authentic Irish food for fair prices. The ambience was happily decorated for Christmas. The staff is nice and quick. The food was good, and one of the few places you can get a decente cottage pie. Worth the visit!

Love this place, never crowded. Food not bad, live music, in the city center. Generally the customer are local not too young.

👍👍 Awesome place to grab a bite to eat and have a nice drink or three in downtown Cork. I had the fish and chips and the wife had the lamb stew...they were both perfect. Service was first rate and I'd highly recommend heading to the bar for a talk with the experts on a food whiskey choice! You cant...

👍 Crazy good prices on food and beverages. You sacrifice attentive service, but everyone I talked to there was pleasant and helpful. The food was good and there were actually a number of beers that I have not seen elsewhere in the Cork area. I would not say this is a must do if visiting from abroad, b...
