For €5 this is a brilliant museum about the history of butter making, including weird rituals they would do for good luck like put a dead child's hand under the churn, all the way to the present day how it exports to over 80 countries - we've all put a bit of Kerry Gold spread on our toast when staying at a B&B! The history of the roads, and the development of Cork harbour for ships sailing across the Atlantic taking supplies of butter (biggest in the world), salted meats, sailcloth (biggest in Europe), and gunpowder (biggest in Ireland).

Two floors small museum about butter, all you need to know is here from how the butter being made to the history of Irish butter, you might need 45-60 minutes for the whole journey, that includes a 16 minutes video. Very interesting place to visit but a bit too small.

This was one of the coolest and most interesting museums I have ever visited. The staff was very knowledgeable and the Saturday butter demonstration was incredible. We ended up spending about 2.5 hours here between all the exhibits and the demonstration. Would love if their gift shop had more butter. All around 10/10 must visit if you’re in cork and deff go on a Saturday around noon!

I've been wanting to visit this museum for a while and after a trek up some narrow streets, we found it! While it's not a large museum, it's fascinating and insightful from the orientation video to the bog butter exhibit upstairs. Don't miss this unique museum! Now I know why Irish butter is the best in the world.

Here is once the largest butter trade market in the world before refrigeration was invented. You will see the early butter making by female workers. The tools that churned cream. The breed of cow being used, the reason why Cork was the center of butter trading. If you join the tour, you may have chance tasting fresh butter.

Small museum with a lot of information and artifacts. I almost missed the upstairs -- but that's where all the interesting facts are so go up there! Overall I'd say it was nicely done and a bit simple; perhaps exactly what you'd expect from a museum about butter.

A wonderful museum that shows you the history of extremely delicious Irish butter! The host is so welcoming! He refused to charge me with the entrance fee being so compassionate about the war in my country, Ukraine. I promise, that money will be added to my donations;) He also said so many kind words of hope to me that my heart melted. I hope I will visit Ireland again and won't miss his workshop of butter making! I also hope that his wishes for my country to win in this war will very soon come true!

I have been there at the opening hour so they weren't a lot of people which was great! I have learned a lot about butter in general and especially about the Irish butter history. I wasn't expecting the butter to be such a big thing in Ireland. The only thing I did not really like about the museum is the 16 min long video promotion about a butter brand, probably because they fund the museum or something. The overall experience was great though, hence the 4 stars 🌟

The Butter Museum is a wonderful experience for anyone on a visit to Cork. Entry is only €5 and its quite a unique opportunity to learn about the history of Irish butter. In particular the growth of the Irish butter market in the 20th century was fascinating! I would happily recommend a visit to this wonderful little museum.

A beautiful place with a wonderful story about national traditions. Some exhibits have video and audio accompaniment. Many ancient devices for the production of butter. Take a piece of bread and butter with you and feel the real atmosphere of its production there.

This little museum was a DELIGHT. We love butter and our family always gets excited to have Kerrygold. The video was fascinating even if a bit of an ad for Irish butter, and probably a bit one sided when it comes to the co-op reduction. Overall it was just a fun way to spend an hour learning about this cool history in Ireland and Cork specifically. Fabulous staff as well!

I'm giving this place a 5 star rating as I really enjoyed my visit here. What made the visit for me was the fact that we organised to visit the museum when the butter was being made. This was brilliant, the man that was making the butter Don, he welcomed everybody in and got us all involved in the experience. He then gave us some home made soda bread and we sampled the butter on it. He even wrapped some butter up for anyone that wanted to take a little home. 5 stars for Don!!

Who knew there was so much to know about butter in Ireland? Interesting, educational. There is a nice introductional video followed by displays, some with short videos. You can see churns, milk cans, old processing equipment, 1000 year old butter, and even make a label with a stamp.

Totally worth the 5€ paid (4 for students:))) , especially when you attend the 12pm slot on Saturdays. Live demonstration of the butter making process emphasizing the importance of temperature for the process. They gave samples of fresh butter on bread, and it totally blew our minds. Oh, Such Mouth-watering deliciousness!

This was very fascinating. The history behind it was awesome. No butter samples when I went though.

Absolutely loved this museum. Staff who is passionate about their job, a niche museum that shows exactly what you want to see at a butter museum. A good mix of video, items for display, and informative texts. The size is also great, long enough to make for a fun thing to do, not so big that you lose your whole day. Also, those who complain about ‘samples’, go to the nearest shop, and buy some Kerrigold, it’s not rocket science.

Nice enough for a rainy day but could be so much better with a little bit of effort. There is a very old scratchy video you watch when you go in about the history of butter in Ireland. Then it's just looking at a few butter churns and maps. You really need to be making your own butter, have a little tour in rooms of how it changed over the years and more interaction. There is no parking and no signs to find your way there and it's tucked away behind other buildings so you have to find it using Google maps. The desk staff are just about cordial and there were no staff inside to help or ask questions of.

A really fascinating, engaging independent museum which taught me a lot about a niche topic. The butter making demonstration and talk was captivating with laugh out loud moments, thank you for a great couple of hours!

What a fantastic and fascinating museum. Came here on a rainy day and it was a day well spent. All the staff are incredibly passionate about the conservation of Ireland’s butter making heritage and was incredibly insightful. Particularly how this industry contributed to the city of Cork and the commerce of Ireland.

A wonderful museum about butter and its position in Cork city history. I learned so much about why dairy, and specifically cattle, are so important to Irish history. I can’t wait to visit again!

The Butter Museum brings to life the original Celtic Tiger story of Ireland's world leading export - butter. Original exhibits including the tools of the trade and testimony footage from the industry and the families who used the traditional churning method are faithfully captured at this hidden delight of Cork.

If you can, make sure to go when a butter making presentation is scheduled. I expected to spend roughly 15 minutes in the museum and ended up spending almost two hours. The host of the butter making presentation talked about the history of Cork and its intricate link to butter production in Ireland and I could have listened to him for much longer because nothing is more interesting to me than listening to someone who really loves and cherishes their craft and its history. This really was one of the highlights of my trip to Ireland, what a great place!

The museum closes at 4PM and we arrived at 3:59. My 7yo really wanted to see how butter was made 'back in the days'. The gentleman at the entrance invited us in and he was very kind to wait until my daughter looked around. It is a small but very informative place. We loved it!

Absolutely amazing to learn the history, evolution, and processes involved in producing a key ingredient, that we use every day ... BUTTER. All too often, we take for granted what others have labored so long and hard to produce. My wife and I will be purchasing ONLY Irish butter, in the future. Each time we enjoy, we will fondly remember beautiful Ireland, her thoroughly kind and hardworking people, and the wonderful Butter Museum. Truly, WELL DONE! A must see when visiting lovely Cork!!
