The National Monument is a historical landmark situated in the Grand Parade, at the heart of Cork city. It was built to commemorate the Irish Patriots who died during the period between 1798 to 1867. I think that the architectural design of this monument is fantastic and is certainly an iconic symbol and even a tourist attraction for Cork city!

Lovely monument which is close by to the English Market. You can sit by the water directly beside it and soak in the sun and the view during the fine weather. Looks even extra nice during Christmas time when the Christmas market is in full swing with all the lights.

The National Monument is definitely worth a visit. It's in a nicer part of town, and you very well may just stumble across it in your travels. Overall, a great place to stop and think about the rich history of Cork, the Republic of Ireland, and the independence movement as a whole. A beautiful and well-deserved commemoration of the patriots who fought for a free and prosperous Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช The monument itself commemorates the rebellions of 1798, 1803, 1848 and 1867. It was first unveiled on St. Patrick's day in 1906 and was designed by architect D.J. Coakley.

The national monument is a place to stop and think about the independence movement. It was built to commemorate the Irish Patriots who fought for free and passed away. (In the centre of cork city).

Honestly it is cool to check out. Good for quick photos and for those interested in art. The details are in impressive. Grab a coffee sit by the River Lee and ponder life. The monument gives you a chance to relax after wandering through the streets and the other touristy places and attractions. It is wheelchair accessible and friendly. #accessible

Local city people you will find here, gossiping, playing on surfer board, drinking and enjoying. Good place to spend free time on good sunny day. Free space to do anything.

One of the "nice to see" things in Cork city (100% not worth going out of your way to see) however as its centra and easy to get to.. worth having a look, reading the names and snapping a few pics. Some great Cafe's and Pubs right by it (might make it more worth the mini walk)

This beautiful old monument stands for the people who have died fighting for the Irish Independence throughout the early 1800's. It is worth a visit.
