A very good museum about the history of the barracks, and Cork military history. Denis McGarry is an insipring curator. I've never come across anybody so knowledgeable about Michael Collins and that era. Really worth a visit.

We had a great time at the Collins Barracks military museum. With fantastic and unique exhibits, and an expert curator Denis, I would recommend this museum to all interested in Irish history.

If you go here then you have to speak to Dennis. And if you have any interest in Irish history then he is an absolute font of knowledge and the kindest guy too. We were fortunate enough that it was a quiet day and we were able to chat and look around with him for a full 2 hours. Just make sure when you come to the entrance (the brown door) that you give him a moment to open the door and he’ll be happy to show you around. The museum itself is also very informative and has lots of items on display. It’s not too big either so you can take your time. 5/5

Dennis is the loveliest. We were so lucky to be able to talk to him for so long. He is truly knowledgeable about Irish culture, a great communicator and super friendly. I would honestly come back to say hello to him and see how he’s doing.

Not so easy to find but definitely worth a visit. We were greeted by Dennis McGarry who is firstly an extremely friendly and welcoming man and secondly has wealth of knowledge on Irish history that is 2nd to none. This man could educate a lot people!!! Ps Dennis, Dingle was fantastic. Richard and Lorraine

An absolute gem of a museum. Its by no means the biggest, or the most accessible but it oozes charm. Best of all is if you be shown around by Sergeant Dennis McGarry whose encyclopedic knowledge and obvious passion for history make any trip to this wonderful museum a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Fantastic museum. Was met at the door by Dennis who inquired about my interest in the barracks and then tailored a tour for me. The man has an amazing breadth of knowledge re: both the barracks and Michael Collins (museum has room devoted specifically to the man). Glad I was able to fit it in.

What a fantastic experience, and hidden gem, at Cork's Collins Barracks army museum. Dennis and his team have truly built a comprehensive experience of this 200 year old (and still an active) military barracks. Understanding how and why this army barracks was first created by the British, and then handed over to the Irish Republic is fascinating. To look out and see Europes 2nd largest military square, and the history rooms of Michael Collins, along with the visit of JFK shortly before he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas is for young and old alike to go visit. PS No cost to visit btw.

Wonderful experience! The museum is very informative and interesting, it has plenty of items on display. We might be the luckiest guy because we've meet Denis! Denis is really the best! He is so professional and kind and knowledgeable,he likes a best tour guide, he told us Irish history and the stories of Michael Collins. We are so grateful and lucky to learn so much! Thank you so much dear Denis! All the best wishes for you and the museum, looking forward to seeing you next time!

Went there during opening hours (10 am on a Tuesday) and it was closed. I waited for 45 min trying to ring the bell and phone the number on the gate (even sent them an email) with no response. There were others trying to get in as well so I wasn’t the only unlucky visitor that day. Was looking forward to this visit so I was rather disappointed to say the least.

We attended the Barracks on May 18th 2019 for a private dinner, Holy Communion. Food, service and location was fantastic. Child friendly and excellent value for money. Loads of parking and steeped in history.
