Sometimes when you walk into a shop you immediately recognise the importance of shopping local within your community. Hickeys is one such shop. It has the feeling of a shop that has expanded and and adapted as time and trends have changed over the years. My trip was for a tin of paint but I took the opportunity to preamble around and peruse the aisles. The shop is deceptively big once you walk in and has a large of stock of anything one might need for a DIY project or an more substantial renovation. The mammoth DIY superstores have more than likely made life more difficult for stores such as this one, but they don't offer a personal experience either, which is what I think most people want. If you go into these mammoth superstores, you will immediately recognise the staff are avoiding customers in order to not answer questions. This is the opposite in Hickeys where staff ask if they can assist you. I was served by who I believe to be the owner of the store and it was entirely pleasant and informative. I'd recommend shopping here if you want to keep local business alive and thriving.

Very friendly staff, but THE PRICES ARE INSANE. €15 for a small tea towel? €25 for an oven mitt? Absolutely mad. Everything here is at least 50-100% more expensive than anywhere else I've seen, perhaps more. Does this place have to pay its rent in gold bars or something?

First time going in this store today and all I could thick of is that the owner should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. This is just one of the hundreds of items i saw that were probably 40% or more expensive than any other store. My local Spar shop in Whitegate is no cheap shop yet they have the exact same product on the shelf for €10.99, Woodies is €12.99 compared to this €23.50. I think i must put up a sign outside their shop warning customers to do their homework before purchasing anything from this store. Its disgusting specially in these times where people are struggling

Low quality products and disappointing staff Nice people if you just buy, but after a second iron that doesn't work correctly, the lady didn't wanted to let me return it, she made me felt like a was a robber. Keep the money and your iron but I will not ever buy here again

A great store with a very wide range of all sorts for the home. Amazing shop. I loved it. I bought a really beautiful butter dish and butter knife .. not something you would find anywhere. A blast from the past. Lovely shop.

I find this shop fascinating. It's a literal Alladin's cave . There's a blonde lady and she's a fabulous person to help guide you on anything about paint. She introduced me to Little &Green paint...unreal. Very expensive but it's a game changer. Pop in you won't be disappointed. It's reminiscent of shops long ago.

Seems like a great store with a wide selection, unfortunately the customer service was very dismissive and unhelpful on the day I went. To clarify, after a gruff dismissal of the issues I requested assistance with, the member of staff concluded by repeating what I said back to me in a condescending tone that was intended to get a rise out of me. I'm not looking for an overly-friendly customer service experience at all, but the way I was treated was with a baffling lack of emotional maturity considering the person deals with people all day. I couldn't blame them for being tired of people after such a long day's work, but I sincerely wasn't trying to annoy them. If they resort to passive aggression when tired (giving them the benefit of the doubt this was the case) then it isn't ideal to have them deal with people all day. Maybe on a different day with a different staff member I would have a positive experience.

Brilliant "proper" shop! Much more than just hardware and decor. Everything from a "needle to an anchor" and then some. Very helpful and friendly staff. Every time we're in Cork we visit and always bag a bargain, often finding things we can't get anywhere else. Need to keep this kind of shop.🤗

They have lots of useful stuff, but man are they overpriced. Many of the things I looked at you get for half or even a third of the price anywhere else. How are they still in business?

A good DIY shop. They usually have everything I need. The lady who is often there is very nice and helpful. It is definitely more expensive than other places, but I usually don't mind paying a bit extra because of the good service, and because I don't want to see every shop like this shut down and replaced with an anonymous chain. This place feels like it has some history and character to it.

We were bowled over by the exceptional service with paint supplies recently, especially when painters suddenly needed more paint, Kathleen and John could not be more obliging, including delivering paint.  In-house colour consultant Claire was equally helpful.  Great to see an owner-managed hardware service that is committed to pleasing customers.

They've obviously opted to specialise in the fancy pieces for expensive homes. Always a great spot for something a little special. Prices can seem high but the quality is in the higher end too.

Great shop in the middle of Cork City. Has everything you need for your pad. Prevents longer trips out to the suburbs. A bit pricey, but worth it to save yourself in other areas.
