Excellent dining experience and service here at Five Crowns. The ambience was beautiful and comfortable. You’ll definitely want to stay a while. We decided to do the dinner for two special they had- which included a crab cake appetizer, spring salad, prime rib (you could also choose salmon or a risotto), and hot fudge sundae. We were able to get mashed potatoes as our side instead of the creamed spinach or creamed corn. The only reason I took off one star is because their potatoes weren’t as good compared to the outstanding quality of everything else we received. I loved the salad, crab cakes, complimentary bread and butter, prime rib, and the ice cream sundae. My husband also had the Russian river valley Pinot noir and the cocktail infused with smoke (I think it included the words ‘red sky’ and ‘sailor’). I had sips of both drinks and they were very good. The sundae I think was my favorite part of the meal. At first I thought it wouldn’t be special because it wasn’t the chocolate soufflé. But the way they served it, with the hot fudge on the side…it was delicious and anything but ordinary. I would come back literally just for this sundae and a drink.

The tradition has now ended. I 1st came to this restaurant in 1983. A graduation dinner, and I was hooked. Things have changed, and now, excellence is just okay. My family ordered the prime rib and the traditional sides. After we got our plates, no one at the table said anything good about the food. The overall reaction, was that the food was okay. When I spend about $100 per person, the food needs to be excellent. We came here last year in July and thought the food was great, yet our waiter was terrible. This time, our waiter was decent, and the food was a big let down. I feel this restaurant has declined in quality and service, so with that said, I and my family will seek a restaurant that is excellent. It’s a shame a restaurant wants about a $100 a plate, yet the food taste like it came from a diner. Anyone have any suggestions for a great steakhouse in this area.

Five crowns (which is OC’s sister of Lawry’s) is always fabulous! The servers are very knowledgeable and the food is always amazing! Valet parking is available across the street. Street parking is pretty hard to come by depending on the time of day you go.

I was there for a wedding event, so I wouldn’t know the actual restaurant vibe and services, other than one of their dishes - prime rib, and the patio bar service, which was open to the wedding guests. They rent out the space (the patio in the enclosed backyard area) for events like weddings before their normal restaurant business service hours, which starts at 4 pm (according to Google Maps), and the event had to be over by 2:30 pm, and the guests were leaving immediately. When I asked one of the the female servers who was also tending the patio bar if they were fully open, she said up to 50% capacity and that the tables have been rearranged accordingly. The servers (I counted 3) seem experienced for the event. There were a couple of more girls in the front but they didn’t participate in serving the event guests. They have turned two rooms upstairs into a bridal suite and a groom’s cave (you’ll see what I mean if you see it in person). The bridal suit was spacious with a large window in a corner that let in natural light. I don’t know if they turn it back to a private dining room when it reopens at 4 pm, but considering the 50% capacity, maybe it is not part of their usual business. But I wouldn’t know since I didn’t stay till later. Keep in mind that AT&T 5G (1 bar didn’t get me anything) is terrible in this area or at least in this corner of Newport, so you will want to use their WiFi and you may have trouble joining the network. It was the case for me, so I had to ask and the girls showed me how. It wasn’t the straight forward way you topically do. They have a parking lot across the street, which is quite spacious, although I could picture that it would be packed in the regular business hours or the pre-pandemic times. And of course the small number of wedding guests didn’t fill up much of the lot. And lastly, the meal choices for the event were prime rib, chicken or salmon. I got the prime rib because one of the the servers told me that it was most popular when I asked her. It was good. Not the best prime rib that I have ever had but it was good. The mashed potato with gravy and and the corn were really good by the way.

Sad to give Five Crowns a 1 star review, especially after having been eating there since I was a child. Tonight unfortunately sealed the deal on not returning. After making a reservation we were seated late unfortunately. The main issue was the amount of time needed to receive our order. We had 3 persons attending dinner tonight and the overpowering smell of fish unfortunately ruined my appetite and I decided that eating wasn’t on the menu any longer..but that ended up being a blessing in disguise because we ended up taking our food to go - because it never made it to our table in any kind of timely manner. Luckily I didn’t order food that also got wasted like the lobster tail and prime rib we ordered because there’s no re-heating that and enjoying any part of it. Now living out of state and coming to town we decided that visiting Five Crowns would be a great option like it has been the other dozen visits we’ve made while we lived here..may as well have just dropped off money at the front and left.

If you like prime ribs then go to Five Crowns. Good cocktails. Rustic decor. Good service. No need for complications, just order a thick cut of the prime ribs and your two sides.

One of the best steakhouses in OC, If not the best. Incredible service, excellent cocktails and an ever changing always amazing menu. How it should be done!

Top notch dining experience on all counts and courses, but be prepared to fork out a few bucks! Well worth it though. The prime rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Sarah provided attentive, excellent service. Truly enjoyable.

Reservation went smoothly with no delays. We were asked for preference. Corkage fee allowed. Server Nicole was very thorough explaining options, very knowledgeable of menu, preparation and provided recommendations. Busser Juan was also very prompt at picking up dishes, providing water and worked well with server. I loved our brief Spanish conversation. Server was kind enough to facilitate our request to finish up our dessert and coffee in the Greenhouse Room.

I've been a few times and the food is good. This time, I had the price rib, spinach, mashed potatoes, bone marrow, crispy calamari, lobster bisque, peach cobbler, and the trifle. The bone marrow came with two huge bones & about a spoonful of marrow. My favorite thing was the lobster bisque, which was creamy & rich. Our server kept disappearing for long spans of time. Only the busser Juan saved the experience. He got us drink refills and the check. The guys at the valet were nice, and parking there made parking easy. The bill was just under $300 for 3 of us, but no one had any alcohol. Some people were dressed nice, but plenty were in flip flops.

These days, it seems like genuinely good service is hard to come by. However, I had a refreshingly pleasant experience at Five Crowns, complete with delicious food and an inviting, cozy atmosphere. I'll definitely return here for my next special occasion.

This is the venue/restaurant I recommend to wedding clients who want to enjoy their special day in a more intimate setting. The food and service are both remarkable. The different available spaces are stunning and full of character. I love the red accents! Valet parking across the street is helpful, especially in such a busy area. All around, Five Crowns is an excellent choice to celebrate weddings and events! Tip: Botanica Floral across PCH offers gorgeous arrangements should you need a florist for your celebration.

Had a chance to enjoy dinner at 5 crowns on Saturday night and it was hopping. Loved the prime rib sandwich and the prime rib plate. Always excellent food from here. This is the place to go if you have a special occasion.

Went to dinner here for my grandfather’s 93 birthday as it is a Corona Del Mar classic! The food was excellent and portions were generous. I even had enough prime rib for dinner the next day. I ordered the crown cut with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. My mother had the potato gratin side which was absolutely the best creamy cheesy potatoes you’ll ever have. I would definitely upgrade to the potato gratin next time. Only bummer is my leftover mashed potatoes didn’t make it in my to go box since they boxed it up for me. Our server was a bit opinionated but you could tell she really just wanted us to have the best experience. Overall pleasant dining experience for a special occasion!

We went to Five Crowns last night for Thanksgiving. Having gone there for our wedding dinner 2 weeks ago, our expectations were high since that dinner was perfect in every detail. Sadly, last night's experience did not live up to those expectations. The salads, bread, and desserts were excellent as usual, but the turkey and stuffing were sub-par. The Prime Rib is excellent, but I definitely don't recommend Five Crowns for Thanksgiving dinner.

We all had a great evening. The waitress was amazing, I wish I could remember her name. The food was fantastic. The calamari was tender and delicious. I had lobster bisque and prime rib which was perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant.

One of those classic restaurants with the Lawry'sexcellent prime rib and creamy sides. A popular bar that seems more like a British pub, as whole families enjoy it. The service was exceptionally pleasant and attentive without hovering. A wonderful evening with friends.

Bad people! We made reservations for Father’s Day for a nice prime rib dinner. We looked at the menu and it was very pricey for prime rib but understandable since it is Lawry’s. We then noticed on Father’s Day that they upped all of the prices for the same exact items with the same amount of sides by as much as nine dollars per item just because it’s Father’s Day. We have no problem spending top dollar on a great meal however, to penalize people because it’s Father’s Day and charge them more for the same items is bad principle. When phoning the restaurant to question the price difference they were rude and could care less so we canceled our reservation and went to another steakhouse and amazingly the prices on the menu stayed the same for Father’s Day. It is just bad business to rip people off just because it’s Father’s Day!

We stopped in here on a Sunday evening for some Scotch and dessert. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. We got a seat next to the fire place. Our server, Tyler, was very attentive and knowledgeable. The soufflé was absolutely amazing! We look forward to coming back.

4.5. Cool spot in an amazing area. Is much bigger than it looks. People are super nice. Large parking lot across the street. Spirits are tasty and generous and food is legit. Would def go back again. Fun times.

I love this menu and the restaurant ambiance/location, but service is what kept me from giving 5 stars. On my second and most recent visit, I had a reservation for 7:30 and we arrived early at 7:10 hoping to have a glass of wine until our table was ready. We didn't get seated until almost 8 and no one acknowledged the excess wait time despite having a reservation. Once seated, it took a full half hour to get the wine we ordered. We skipped appetizers and went straight into ordering our meals, but still didn't leave the restaurant until 10:30 because of the slow service. Our food was delicious - I appreciate that they have Lawry's beef, seasonal cocktails, and a good mix of menu options to try...but service is very important at a restaurant that's at least $100 per head. I love the location in Corona Del Mar near the beach, and the inside of the restaurant is cozy and very nice. Just need to step the service up, or cut guests a discount on their meal when the wait times are excessive.

We have been here twice now for Thanksgiving day lunch and while the service is great and the atmosphere is cozy, the food is just ok. I had the fish option -- salmon at the time -- and it was well cooked but unfortunately just a little plain. The risotto option was far far too cheesy. Yorkshire pudding, on the other hand, was very tasty. The Side Door bar off to the side of the restaurant takes me back to the small random pubs I visited in England which was cool and it does have it's own menu so looking to try that next time perhaps.

Make sure to go around the holidays for the decor and special treatment. The caroling makes it such a special holiday event! Great food too!

Excellent prime rib ($42 for the 6oz) and included 2 sides. Cream corn, cream spinach, or mash potatoes. Salad was extra ($14 for the wedge salad). It was all very, very tasty. Expensive but very, very good. We would go again if someone else is paying.

A very upscale restaurant experience. We first heard about the bar, Side Door, and we loved it. Great selection, beautiful building and atmosphere. Even though the restaurant itself is elegant and delightful the service was just ok. We had several mistakes in our orders and the servers were constantly noticed...like we were being watched our whole meal. Being in the food service myself for years I always tried to be invisible but ever present when needed. A task that takes skill and attention. Our servers did not have that skill. Also my Filet was mediocre, charred on the edges and bloody in the center. Everything else was outstanding.

In many ways, this is a classic restaurant with a contemporary feel. The food is excellent, as is the service. I have been to this restaurant many times, along with the Lawry's in Beverly Hills. However, the Beverly Hills restaurant has updated in a way that makes it feel rather impersonal and efficient rather than traditional but refreshed. I prefer going to the Five Crowns because I get that personalized attention and excellent food that I've grown accustomed to.
