The Don Juan chocolate and coffee tour was one of my favorite excursions while in La Fortuna and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is curious about learning more about the delicacies of Costa Rica. We learned a lot while on this tour and enjoyed all the free samples along the way. The drink of the Gods tastes exactly as it sounds. It was truly a treat and one of the best coffee drinks that I have ever had. We had the opportunity of making our own chocolate and it was such a fun experience. Our tour guy, Alejandro (Alex) was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. He pointed out some fun wild life for us as well such as a sloth and Jesus Christ lizard. The tour was definitely worth it!

Don Juan Tours in La Fortuna offers a pragmatic and immersive experience into the cultivation and production of coffee and chocolate. The visual journey through lush greenery, with cacao pods and coffee cherries in their natural habitat, underscores the authenticity of the tour. The images showcase the cacao fruit directly on the trees and the educational signage provides a clear, step-by-step breakdown of the process from bean to bar. As a visitor, one gets a tangible sense of the work involved in the transformation of these products, which likely enhances the appreciation for the final chocolate and coffee one gets to taste. The hands-on demonstration adds an interactive component, making the tour both informative and engaging. Perfect for those who value the combination of education and sensory experience.

The coffee and chocolate tour was informative and fun. We learned how cocoa is grown, fermented and made into chocolate. They let us grind cocoa nibs to make our own chocolate. We also saw the coffee making process from plant to bean to roasting and sampled their coffee as well. Along the tour the guide pointed out various birds, trees and flowers. He was friendly and kept us interested. As a bonus, we booked the first tour of the day and it was only the my husband and I so we had a private tour which was perfect. The gift shop at the end had more samples as well as all the coffees and chocolates and beautiful pottery and souvenirs. Very highly recommend this tour!

I am so happy with this experience. I was able to change my reservation last minute when I had a big tape between tours. The woman at the front desk was very kind and accommodating. You can choose to have the tour in English or in Spanish. Our guide Jorge was very kinda and knowledgeable. He let us try many different native fruit on the property throughout which is an experience we wouldn’t have had otherwise. We got to mix our own chocolate from a paste we ground ourselves and added in different ingredients to make it our own. I highly recommend this tour. You won’t be disappointed.

Truly a fantastic tour. Axel was very knowledgeable and did a great job of explaining not only coffee and chocolate, but plants and animals we saw around the farm. We got an even better view of a sloth than our sloth tour. The chocolate bar making was the most fun, where we created our own from fresh cacao nibs, adding ingredients that suited our individual tastes.

Our night time chocolate tour with wildlife sightings along the way with Axel as our guide was educational and enjoyable. Axel took the time to share his knowledge on animals along the way he found including red eye tree frogs, lizards, cane toads, a sloth we saw active in the night, insects and more. He taught the children how to find animals and was patient and receptive to their learning style. We enjoyed making the chocolate but for us the highlights included the animals and their stories. He shared photos and videos along the tour with us of the sightings. His passion made the tour so much more than advertised.

The staff and tour were totally amazing. We arrived in the middle of horrendous rain with spectacular thunder and lightning but fortunately the whole tour was under cover. We did the coffee and chocolate tour which was >2hr of information, facts and fun. Our guide was very knowledgeable and ensured the whole group was interactive. I’d wholly recommend this, especially as an activity to dodge the afternoon rain ☔️

This tour blew us away! Our guide Axel was SO passionate about both chocolate and coffee and astounded us with numerous facts. You get to make your own chocolate bar and take it home with you as well as sample the cacao fruit. Highly recommend booking the 11am tour as it less popular (we were the only ones on the tour!) We also mentioned to our guide that we wanted to see a sloth and he spotted one for us and took great photos through his binoculars.

This was such a great experience! My 2 favorite things in one tour= coffee+ chocolate 😍😍 Yen was our guide and was so knowledgeable on both. We saw natural trees, tasted fruits and learned the ins and outs of coffee and chocolate products from A-Z. We made our own chocolate bars to take home and tasted different coffees. If you like chocolate, coffee or both this is a must do trip. And it was only a 2 hour tour so it only added fun to the day! So fun!

Jorge was our guide and he was great! The other staff was very friendly as well. The tour was very educational and fun!! Definitely recommend. Don’t wear light colored clothing if you are messy since you will be making chocolate.

Not cheap, like everything else in Costa Rica. $45 per person in a group tour, $180 individually for 2 people. Very interesting and informative, especially if you are on such a tour for the first time. You can taste everything, starting with fruits from the tree and ending with ready-made chocolate and coffee. And also get a little involved in the production process. And you will also have the opportunity to make homemade chocolate that you can take home. Well, where would you go without a souvenir shop, but it is really quite goodThe only thing I would probably recommend is to find a less touristy local farm)

Our chocolate and coffee tour led by Yen was amazing. Yen is an great tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and loves to share the history of chocolate and coffee with others. We had told him we had not had the chance to see a sloth prior to our tour and he made it a point to make sure we saw one. He took out his telescope and we got to see the sloth very well. It was an awesome experience. Highly recommend this tour.

This tour was amazing! Our guide Jostin was very knowledgeable and had a terrific sense of humor. We learned so much and had a great time while doing it. We did not expect to see so many animals, including toucan and a sloth. Even though it was raining, it's a completely covered walkway so the tour was very comfortable with plenty of places to sit. They encouraged us to use bug spray but the bugs weren't bad that day. There's a lovely gift shop with reasonable prices and no hard sell whatsoever but plenty of opportunities to try the products. Making our own chocolate was a highlight for all of us!

This tour was amazing! Our guide, Gigi, made everything so easy to understand. He was very friendly, informative and didn’t shy away from answering any of our questions. This tour was so much more than just coffee and chocolate. We caught some of the ground sloths too! I recommend this tour to anyone…whether you like coffee or chocolate or not!

Very cool. Yen was our guide. He was so knowledgeable, fun and professional. We arranged the tour through our hotel and Yen picked us up in the company van. We had a group of about 10 people. Yen took us first through the cocoa and chocolate production, so interesting! We got to taste the cocoa beans right out of a pod, see how they ferment and dry the beans, then we got make our own chocolate bar with our hands and taste a yummy chocolate drink. That was followed by a coffee tour and we learned every step of the process and got to roast and drink fresh coffee at the end. Fantastic tour. I learned so much! We tasted some free chocolate samples and then I also bought a lot of chocolate in the store at the end. Irresistible!
