Tico Lingo is the best! The staff is super helpful and friendly, the excursions and activities are really enriching, and the teachers are kind, patient, and knowledgeable! My homestay family was so fun and really helped me with my Spanish. I would highly recommend the Tico Lingo homestay as the way to go. Heredia is a beautiful city with lots to offer. It is safe and clean with great people who love to help. I cannot wait to return to see my new friends and learn more Spanish! Muchas Gracias, Tico Lingo!

It’s a 5 star experience. First of all, my Spanish improved dramatically, two full language levels in 2 months. (A2 to B2) I had originally thought to stay one month, and enjoyed the process so thoroughly I stayed for 2. Now I can have full natural and organic conversations with native speakers, and that wasn’t possible prior to Tico Lingo. Secondly the people at the school — both students and faculty — were excellent. I made lifelong friends here. Furthermore, administration was always friendly, visible and available to assist with questions or concerns. I loved my home stay family and we still communicate regularly after my departure. They’re truly lovely human beings. It’s difficult not to wax overly poetic about my time at Tico Lingo, because it was just all upside, no negatives. If you’re considering attending a language immersion program in Costa Rica, you owe it to yourself to come to Tico Lingo. I’m already making plans to return, if not to continue schooling at least to visit the friends and family I made while there. 👍

I spent two great weeks at Tico Lingo. During the first week I realized how much I was learning. The classes were organized and the teachers were great. Living with a Costa Rican family was a cultural and learning experience. Spanish 24 hours a day is the way to learn a language. I will return to Tico Lingo in the near future for a longer stay.

I attended Tico Lingo for 4 weeks total, and stayed with a Tico family for 2 of the 4 weeks. The family was super sweet, however as a person who prefers their own space, natural light in my room and a spacious comfortable bed, I realized getting my own place was beneficial for me to unwind and simply be. Tico Lingo organizes your pick up from the airport which brings a whole other level of safety and care, especially for solo travelers. Tico Lingo was a really pivotal experience for me as I had been learning Spanish privately for a year, once a week, and was ready to really get immersed and push my ability to grasp this language. Tico Lingo did just that. I was really able to understand more than I ever had and learned new concepts, rules and formations of the language that added fullness to my ability to express in Spanish. The teachers are superb. I had Freddy for the entire time and he was just incredible. All the staff there are sweet, and helpful. I met really kind, generous, and interesting people there too who were also students. If you're serious about Spanish, this is the place for sure.

From our first contact to our last goodbye we were really pleased with Ticolingo. The staff responded promptly, professionally, and warmly to our every question. Once we arrived we were welcomed by our fantastic host and made to feel comfortable in her home. We only had one week to spend at the school but our instructor Zulma made great use of the time we had and helped us to realize our strengths and weaknesses so we could focus our efforts where most needed. The whole school has a culture of friendliness which we really enjoyed. The cooking classes and yoga were very fun too!

My husband and I just finished two weeks at Tico Lingo and it was so special! Before coming, I was really nervous about my beginner level in Spanish, but the staff was incredibly welcoming, kind, and helpful. We learned so much in just two weeks. It was really amazing getting to interact with our host family and our classmates. We felt really comfortable going to the Tico Lingo staff if we had any questions, needed recommendations, help, etc. I would totally recommend this school and experience and I hope we can come back again someday!

Learning spanish can‘t get any better! People and teacher at Tico Lingo are so kind and patient and give you the feeling of a second home. The school itself really has a great strategy of teaching and also creates a perfect Tico experience! I feel like i improved my spanish and at the same time had a great time meeting other students and locals, dancing, tasting typical food and practicing spanish even after school. I can recommend this place a lot and hope to get the chance to come back one time! Try it out, you won‘t regret it!

The learning experience far exceeded my expectations. From the moment of arrival at school, you knew it was going to be a great learning experience. The staff were extremely professional and made everyone feel part of the Tico Lingo Family. The classes, extracurricular activities and home family experience combined into the perfect setting to learn a language. I highly recommend Tico Lingo. I will return and stay longer.

Tico Lingo was everything I had hoped for and more. My experience here was absolutely incredible! I can honestly say that I learned more Spanish in my 6 weeks at Tico Lingo than I did in my 4 years of high school Spanish, and they made it fun to learn! I noticed a big improvement in my speaking and listening skills throughout my time here. Huge thank you to my professors, FREDDY and ZAIDA, for being the best! Not only is the school and program itself the top of the top, the students and staff were also some of the nicest, motivated, and most interesting people I’ve ever met. I easily found a group of friends that I clicked with and we developed beautiful friendships that will last for many years to come. We fully took advantage of the weekends to explore all parts of Costa Rica, and it was easy to find travel buddies because students were always offering invitations to join them. Thank you to Tico Lingo for not only helping me learn Spanish, but also allowing me to meet the coolest people. My homestay experience was marvelous, and I felt welcomed the moment I walked in. I was able to practice my Spanish with them and they were always patient and willing to talk to me. I know that I will always have a family here in Costa Rica. I would highly recommend everyone to come to Tico Lingo and experience life here in this beautiful country. Pura vida!

Tico Lingo language school is the perfect place to go to rapidly improve your Spanish in Costa Rica. The teachers and staff are super friendly and I have learnt a lot from them. There are also fun events that the school arranges that are forest to learn further Spanish and discover more Tico culture. The school is a great place to meet other friendly students and it’s like a small community and we do things together outside of classes

I loved my Tico Lingo experience! My class was fun, challenging, and oh so rewarding! My Spanish improved by leaps and bounds in 3 weeks! My 'compañeros de clase' were the best. We all worked hard but had fun and learned a lot. Profe Karina was absolutely incredible. She could simultaneously encourage conversation and find teachable grammar and vocabulary moments relevant to our conversations. I loved my 'familia Tica' , Roxy y Ricardo. They now part of my own. The town of Heredia was an excellent spot, wonderful people. I made many friends when walking to school! Last by not least, the Tico Lingo staff were helpful and encouraging. ¡Diez estrellas!

I had a great time at Tico Lingo and feel like my Spanish really improved! Everyone working at the school was very welcoming and extremely helpful. The classes were amazing, everything was explained very clearly and it was a nice balance between speaking, writing and listening, while also having a fun time! My homestay family was very welcoming and the trips offered by the school made it easy to get to know people and explore Costa Rica. I would love to come back!

I spent three weeks taking classes and living in a home stay with Tico Lingo and had an amazing experience! My Spanish skills have improved immensely which has provided me with confidence to go on traveling in Costa Rica without concern of a language barrier. All of the staff at Tico Lingo were very friendly, helpful and resourceful. If I ever had a problem or question, I knew someone there would be able to help me out. My host family welcomed me in with open arms and made me feel right at home. They quickly became a second family to me. I feel so fortunate to have had such an authentic experience connecting to the Costa Rican culture. I am already looking forward to my next stint with Tico Lingo!

I’m so happy I was able to experience Tico Lingo. It was my very first immersion program and it was excellent from start to finish. I’m a 54 year old female and went without my husband for 2 weeks with the goal of improving my motivation to continue learning and improve my conversation skills. My goal was met and exceeded because of the wonderful family I stayed with, delicious meals provided by my Tica familia, the knowledgeable teachers and other students with the same interest in improving their Spanish. The extra activities are also wonderful. I took part in the cooking classes, yoga, dance and Saturday trips. Everything was excellent and the town of Heredia is a very safe city. A small city where you have lots of chances to practice Spanish since it’s not a touristy area. I also found this program to be a great value for what I paid. I would definitely recommend Tico Lingo to anyone wanting to improve their Spanish skills and meet a lot of other great people with similar interests.

My family moved to Costa Rica three months ago. We studied with Tico Lingo online last year while still in the United States and again in person once we arrived to Costa Rica. Everyone is so friendly at Tico Lingo. It doesn't just feel like a business....it feels like a second home. It has a very comfortable and welcoming environment. Thank you Tico Lingo....my two sons and I love Tico Lingo 🥰

Tico Lingo has great energy. I can't speak about the Spanish classes as I'm actually a native Spanish speaker, but I go all the time to their free intercambio activities and really enjoy meeting all the interesting people that come there. The staff is really nice and the owner of the school often gives out free beer that he makes himself! It's really a great place to be at and from what I've heard all the students that are in the program there are always very happy with their homestay families and their Spanish teachers.

Listening to a good podcast can open your mind to a new perspective. Listening to a great podcast can change your mind’s current perspective. But listening to a random podcast at just the right time can totally change the direction of your life. At least that is what happened to me. One average day in June, I was washing dishes in my apartment, listening to this guy talk about his spontaneous move to Costa Rica where he ended up starting a Spanish school. Three weeks later I was in Heredia at Tico Lingo. I studied Latin and French in high school and college. I will never forget my teachers who, each semester, valiantly dragged me through the exam finish line. They must have taken some sort of ethical oath: “I solemnly swear to dedicate my time, knowledge and energy to teaching my students to the best of my ability and I will not lose my cool when I constantly have to answer the same stupid question for the same stupid student.” Seriously, if it weren’t for this super secret professorial oath that they probably take, I would still be withering away back in beginner French. But, after six years of on and off attempts to absorb two languages I settled on a rather lazy temporal conclusion: when it came to languages, my brain will never amass to anything more than a block of refrigerated Swiss cheese: cold, non-absorbent, unreliable and full of holes. I had associated the act of learning languages solely with an academically credited environment, so I planned on shunning it to my back burner for life. Still yet, I romanticized the idea of speaking Spanish; joking around with my friends and coworkers, having casual conversations with baristas in Madrid. Maybe I could pick up the language if I cared more, worked more, and studied more. But in reality learning Spanish did not require more from me but less— less distraction, less thought, less nerves, less people. I needed quality over quantity. This is what made Tico Lingo unique and ideal for me. It is a purely tranquil, uninterrupted, niche environment that changed my entire perspective of learning a language. With no preconceived notions of the program I was forced to be present in every moment. What I thought might be to be a wild roller coaster ride was fortunately more akin to a transformational yoga class. Tico Lingo connected me seamlessly to Spanish language and Tico culture. I lived with a hilariously fun mother and daughter duo who were serendipitously the same age as my mother and me. We shared meals and stories and created a bond of memories. After only two weeks of immersion in Costa Rica I am fully convinced that there is no better way to learn a language. I learned more Spanish in two weeks at Tico Lingo than I did in three semesters of French in college. I truly cannot put a price on this experience of a lifetime. Tico Lingo did not just teach me Spanish, it inspired me to be balanced and joyful in my everyday life. Even when not every day was smooth, it was fulfilling. Pura Vida. I encourage you to take a chance on Tico Lingo. You may have thought of visiting those incredible Costa Rican beaches. But, I believe one of the rarest gems is in the the mountains in Heredia on 8th street.

Tico Lingo is more than just a school…it is an unforgettable experience. The staff and professors at Tico Lingo care about your language goals and create an environment that welcomes learning and harvests long-term outcomes. If you want a truly immersive experience away from tourism and in the heart of Costa Rican culture, then this is your place! Thank you, Tico Lingo Family, for three of the most amazing months of my life!

One of the most impactful experiences of my life! I couldn’t imagine a better run Spanish school than the one at Tico Lingo. Amazing people who truly care for you and help integrate the Costa Rican culture into your Spanish learning journey. If you’re even remotely considering doing a Spanish immersion program, this is the one!

My 15 year old daughter attended the teen summer camp at Tico Lingo and had a wonderful time. Her confidence in Spanish grew and she had an amazing time on the incredibly well planned excursions and adventures. The program did an excellent job keeping in touch with parents daily, so we always knew what the kids were up to. I’d highly recommend this program to teens who are looking to build/improve Spanish skills, learn about Costa Rican culture, build new friendships, and go on some incredible adventures!

I recently finished working as a camp counselor for Tico Lingo's teen summer camp programs and could not recommend Tico Lingo more for anyone looking to learn Spanish while being fully immersed in the Costa Rican culture. As a teen camp counselor, I had the privilege to work in close contact with many Tico Lingo staff members, all of whom were very friendly and welcoming. Chris, the owner of the company, has a clear passion for others' growth in the Spanish language and does an amazing job supporting all students and staff members. Additionally, Yenifer, Chris' assistant, is always a friendly face to see and does a great job up-keeping everything at the Tico Lingo school. As a part of the teen camp program, I also got to drop in on the students' classes and get to know and learn from their professors, including Freddy, Zulma, Marcela, Karina, and Kevin, all of whom I highly recommend. The professors are highly qualified, understanding, and very friendly. I was also provided with an opportunity to take my own private classes during my time working for Tico Lingo, and these classes helped me become a much better Spanish-speaker. My professor, Yóbeth, understood what I needed to work on and encouraged me through a variety of different exercises while also leaving room for me to ask questions about anything I wanted to learn. Yóbeth is also very highly qualified and intelligent and does an amazing job teaching the Spanish language to foreigners. Lastly, in addition to the Spanish classes, Tico Lingo planned trips throughout the country, including tours of Manuel Antonio, La Fortuna, and San José, encouraging students to experience the beauty of Costa Rica and put to practice the Spanish skills learned in class. These tours were some of my favorite experiences that I will definitely remember forever. Thank you to all the staff at Tico Lingo, it was a pleasure meeting you!

I had an amazing experience in Costa Rica with Tico Lingo. The program offered so many amazing experiences and activities to do in this beautiful country. I had a great time immersing myself in the Costa Rican culture, and I would definitely recommend doing it. On top of the great experience, I was able to become a much greater Spanish speaker. Before going to the school, I was a very awful speaker and could not understand people when they talked to me. However, after spending just two weeks there, I became a very confident speaker, and could understand what people were saying to me. Overall, I had a great time, and I am very glad I found Tico Lingo to go on this amazing adventure!

I did the two week teen summer camp and loved it! The homestay families were very welcoming and extremely kind. I enjoyed cooking dinner with my homestay mom and chatting with her after classes and excursions. The Tico Lingo staff were also great including Chris and Jenifer! They made sure we felt familiar and safe in Heredia and that we got to explore Tico culture. Overall I feel as though my Spanish flourished and that I had the experience of a lifetime!

I spent 3 weeks at Tico Lingo and had an a great experience. I stayed with a homestay family and found that portion of my time to be extremely helpful in developing my Spanish speaking skills. In school, my teachers were helpful and were able to pick up on my individual needs/skills. The staff was also helpful in supporting me in after school/weekend activities and the dance, yoga, language exchange, and cooking classes I attended after school were so much fun. I would say that having taken Spanish for 5 years in high school before entering Tico Lingo, I would recommend the school more for beginners (or very advanced speakers) as being an intermediate student I did a lot of review during my time there. However, being forced to speak the language in class and at my homestay still helped immensely. I think that 3 weeks was the perfect amount of time for me to spend in this program. I met some incredible people and am still in touch with many of them today!

Attending the Tico Lingo school in Heredia was one of the nicest experiences of my life! The teachers and staff were all so welcoming, and the classes were always upbeat and fun! My homestay was terrific too. It was very rewarding to immerse myself into the culture while learning the language. I had a great time with my fellow students , whom I’m sure will always be friends! Thank you, Tico Lingo! Attending your school was a positive+ experience, and one that I will always hold dear to my heart in every way!!

We absolutely LOVED our time at Tico Lingo!! We were able to get to know the language, the people and the country. The small class sizes and the wonderful instructors (shout out to Zaida!) had us looking forward to class each day. The additional opportunities to learn through yoga, dance and cooking were an absolute blast!! Above all, the people make the difference, from the team that make it all happen to all of the interesting people who attend classes at Tico Lingo. It was an amazing experience!!
