I am bewildered to see how this place how so many 5 star reviews. The food is very poor. The customer service is non-existent, the so called “chefs” general hygiene is horrendous; hair hanging out the back of the hats, no hairnets, dirty oven cloths over their shoulders. The “servers” then have the audacity to leave a review card stating who served us; what do they serve us? Bill is paid for at the bar, drinks are bought at the bar, and the carvery is self-serve. These chain pubs/restaurants are the reason the industry is a mess, they care about one thing: bums on seats. Safe to say I will not be returning to this place. Pictures attached are the cleaning of our table and the vanilla ice cream- if you can call it ice cream- more like frozen yoghurt.

Last weekend, we experienced something new to us at the Middlemarch Farm. The food was lovely, service excellent, plenty of staff around with most pleasant customer service. Nicki, who attended to our table, was so pleasant, friendly, and interacted with all of our party. Nothing was too much trouble for her. We will be definitely going back again in the near future. The turnover of food, with a busy afternoon, was excellent. Plenty of choice and selection of vegetables. Desserts were most enjoyable. So, all in all, company, staff, the experience and interaction was 100% great. Definitely will be recommending this place to others.

I was down visiting from Scotland whilst my husband was working. I went over to the Middlemarch Farm for lunch whilst I was alone during the day. Whilst there I was served by Zoe and she was absolutely lovely. Totally put me and ease as I was alone. Was so friendly and chatted to me whilst she served me. I also spoke with Amber who was equally as lovely. I really believe in places such as this it’s the staff that make such a difference and these two ladies were just lovely. They couldn’t do enough to help. The food was delicious and amazing value. I had the carvery and it’s one of the best I’ve ever been to. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you are served by either Zoe or Amber then you are in the best hands!

The food was great! Unfortunately the service was awful. We had a zombie take us to our booked table only for there to be no table. He tried to seat our party of adults in the family area with the noisy children, to which we refused, he then disappeared. We eventually found another person to seat us, this lady also attempted to put us in the family area, we informed her this was not acceptable and tried to convince us it 'wasn't too loud' to which we quickly replied 'Yes, it is'. We eventually got put in a tight corner on a table of 4 with an extra table added to accommodate our other members, this extra table was so disgustingly sticky, even after having it cleaned twice. Overall being neglected, made to feel like we were not important, not even reserving a table for us despite booking. Being forced in to a crowded corner, so hot it caused sweat with a dirty sticky table, the experience was terrible, I lost my appetite. I would suggest that you just use their takeout service, enjoy it at home in comfort. At least the chefs and carvers have customer service skills and do their job to a high standard. The building was aesthetically pleasing and the food smelled so good, I was so let down by the service and servers, I will never return in person, I am disgusted.

EDIT: Visited again today, ordered exactly the same thing and the place was much quieter and staff were very attentive. I have upped my review to 5 stars, yesterday must have been an unusual day! My first visit here (solo party), staying in a hotel nearby. Positives: - Carvery was nice and as usual at Farmhouse Inns good value. - Drink came in a timely manner after placing order on the App when seated at table - Carvery server was trying her absolute best to keep things running - staff were friendly Negatives: - Excessive wait time to be shown to a seat and to get served at the carvery, I would hope if I return that more staff will be available as they appeared short tonight considering the number of guests. - certain (but by no means all) front of house staff seemed a little inattentive to some customers.

Food was fair for the price point. I ordered a rump steak medium rare and was more on the rare side but that's fine with me. The peppercorn sauce is immaculate! Seriously good stuff. My pal had a chicken burger with all the trimmings and couldn't finish the lot as his a poom. Both also had a pint of coke to go with our meals and in total was just under £40 which I felt was reasonable. Good job.

We've been here twice now with a biggish party and we've been given a table without wait both times. The first time we had the carvery and it's really great, the regular plate you can get enables you to make a mountain of delicious food and it's really worth the price. The second time we had food off the normal pub menu and everyone really enjoyed the it, there wasn't any food left on a plate. The best part about the place is the very generously (huge) sized desserts and they're particularly good, I would definitely recommend the carrot cake and to give this place a whirl as it's large, comfortable and serves great food.

Staff are super nice and friendly here 😊 I'd been wanting to come here for a while now as heard about the really BIG cakes they do. We decided on a carvery a regular size one did us just great. Gammon was LOVELY and I highly recommend it. Beef and Turkey were a bit of a let down quite dry and chewy. We then got a cake to take away. They boxed it up for us nicely. I had a funfetti cake And my mum had the carrot cake Both very delicious and moist. Will for sure come here again in the future. My only complaint/concern is there was a lot of flies hanging around...maybe you could do something more about that considering there's food out in the open (aka the carvery)

Just had Christmas dinner, all very good. Staff lovely and efficient. The place is getting a bit worn but very clean and tidy. Toilets clean, paper soap and hand dryer very good. Very nice welcome. Food well cooked, plentiful and good choice. Our table well set out and comfortable. We had amended our guests and the extra place was easily sorted out. We would definitely recommend the venue, it's worth its cost, that aside it's a nice atmosphere for us oldies and the younger end Smashing.

Normally love going here, but today was huge disappointment from the start. Very busy had to wait for table even though you could clearly see lots of empty tables, tables were still empty entire time we waited for one. Once seated went to get food, not replacing or replenishing food quick enough, queues of people waiting for yorkies to come out, pigs in blankets with no blankets, roast potatoes not peeled before being roasted so not very nice to eat like eating overdone jacket spuds 🤮, vegetables seen better days, not a good day today very disappointing

Staying at hotel opposite for the national motor bike exhibition. We choose a carvery. Lovely meats but Carrots hard sprouts hard roast potatoes salty pigs in blankets burnt peas dried out and looked like they had been there all day. Waitress on our section never smiled and never used basic manners of please or thank you plus she is very heavy footed stomping around back and forth the floor was vibrating ! Thank god I don’t live in a flat under her that’s all I can say lol. Then my husband and I noticed the ultimate sin when it comes to food hygien the man at the carvery was moving the Turkey joint onto the used beef tray NO then we watched him use the same carving fork on all meats NO he did use a different knife though. Our table was not the cleanest and it felt sticky as well. At one point we had 2 young boys approximately aged around 8 - 9 years old running around the tables whilst we were trying to eat even though the children’s play area was open and being used. Just a little bit annoying.

Fantastic service and food here today! Visited after the nearby soft play 2 adults , 3 children. Staff went above and beyond to ensure our visit was enjoyable. The gammon wasn't ready when we had our carveries as we were there early but Amber brought us a slice for my daughter when it was ready which made her day. All of the food we ordered was delicious. My one small disappointment was that the parsnips weren't on the carvery, not sure if this is a seasonal thing. My niece has a dairy/soya/egg allergy and unfortunately the restaurant had ran out of vegan ice cream. Amber and Zoe were very helpful offering alternatives which we could check the allergens for. We checked the lemon sorbet on the Farmhouse inns site which said it contained milk and eggs. This is very unusual so Amber and Zoe offered to get the tub for us so that we could check the allergens listed on the label. This showed no allergens and so the children could all have a dessert together. The team members were all so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you and we will be returning soon!

Back again, for breakfast this time! Food is always excellent, more food always prepared so the breakfast help yourself area has plenty on it. Will has served us again, lovely to see him and talk to him as always. Daniel greeted us at the door, always lovely to see him too as we normally do. All staff couldn’t do enough, my nan definitely enjoys coming here for food. It’s now a tradition for us. Definitely coming back next week!

Fabulous food, stunning puddings and cakes. Very reasonably priced. All the staff are amazing. Especially Daniel who goes above and beyond dealing with dietary restrictions. Absolute credit to the team

We have visited may time over the last few months. For the first time today we had a small problem with the food, but it was sorted straight away and with the usual excellent service. Always great food and excellent customer service. Many thanks to Roxanne.

Gammon, turkey, beef, three types of meat, various vegetables, and a rich gravy sauce... Carvery on weekday afternoons at Middlemarch Farm is highly recommended in terms of quality and price. Special thanks to the lovely and friendly staff Zoe for the great service with a smile! 😊

I attended the restaurant with 4 children and we had a great experience. The kids meals did take around 40 minutes to arrive which did seem rather long based on the amount of people dining but I asked a member of staff, Ash, about this and it was on the table within 5 minutes. Ash was very attentive and interacted well with both myself and the children, always with a smile on her face. I left my bag at the end and ash ran it out. Overall very pleasant experience, nice location, clean facilities, good food and great customer service. I would definitely attend again.

I recently had the pleasure of dining with friends at this restaurant, and I must commend the staff especially Zoe & her work colleagues for providing truly fantastic customer service. From the moment we entered, the hospitality was exceptional. The waitstaff Zoe was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable. The recommendations for dishes were spot-on, and the attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The seamless coordination among the staff added to the overall positive atmosphere. Well done to your whole team for making our retired staff reunion, reminiscing about the good old days when we worked together. memorable. We look forward to returning soon.

The Sunday lunch dinner was very tasty. All freshly cooked. It was very busy, which is to be expected with good food at a reasonable cost . The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because of where we sat it was right by the busy bar near a doorway that was less comfortable than other areas for dining

  • 5/5 Nick B. 4 months ago on Google
Decided to have a Sunday carvery for once. Unfortunately, everyone seemed to have the same idea, so it was very busy. That said, we were advised of the waiting time and decided to get a drink first. At the time advised, we were taken to our table, which was close to the children's play area. We were offered an alternative table, but only if we re-joined the allocation queue, which was fair enough, but we decided to just sit and eat our meal, as it wasn't too bad. At least the offer had been made. Due to the throughput of diners, the food was piping hot and very nice. Would dine there again, but might select a less busy time, if possible. They must be doing something right, to have the amount of custom they had while we were there.

We came here yesterday (Sunday) for a carvery. The food was lovely, the meat melted in my mouth as it was cooked to perfection as was the veg. Great portion size and superb value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we will definitely be returning.

The mixed grill was okay, but the cakes are really good. Highly recommend for the cakes alone

  • 4/5 Eva L. 5 months ago on Google
The carvery was lovely, although the gammon was a bit hard. The cakes normally are out of this World, this time around, we were a bit disappointed as they were a bit tasteless. Still recommended the carvery as one of the best I have tried. Good value for money

The best experience in a long time in this restaurant. We had Zoe (mad Zoe) as our waitress and she was incredible what a credit to the company. She definitely made our experience x10 better. She has a laugh with her customers and is so attentive. The food could come ate and you’d still get a 5 just for her personality

  • 1/5 Joe P. 1 year ago on Google
Starter had to be asked for after main course had already come out, 1 person on the bar so had to wait 15 minutes just to get a drink even though there was staff stood talking. Mixed grill was over cooked but didn't want to stand in a 15 minute queue just to complain. Pleased it's not local to me so I don't have to go there again. I could of understood all the above if all the tables were full of people.

I've been here a few times (usually week days, in the afternoon). The service is great, the food is fab. The desserts are also pretty scrumptious. The parking is ample, the outdoor seating is pleasant (if a little heavier on wasps, than would be preferred on warmer days 🐝). The only criticism I can make - and it is only a minor matter which could also be considered my opinion, which might not be shared by others;. Sometimes, when I've dined indoors; there was a slightly over dark dinginess. One can sometimes barely make out the floor at a distance of a few metres. It's not like that all over, but I think it appears more extreme in the daytime, when strong light comes from the windows; the lack of matching indoor light leaves it looking dark inside. It's probably not noticeable in the evenings. If they sort that out, I would definitely give them a full 5 ⭐s 🙂

After our visit today, we both said it was the best carvery we've ever had. Food was hot, ample portions as we helped ourselves. Would 100% recommend Middlemarch for either breakfast, or lunch/evening meal . Zoe was our server and the apology for interrupting our meal went a long way. Asking us how the meal was and advising us on the dessert menu. Long may Middlemarch continue providing excellent service and food.

Always my favourite place to eat if you want the best Carvery with a generous portion of meat. (Take the hint Toby). And the biggest and best desserts. In addition you have a huge restaurant set menu, with all your favourites. With plenty of seating for cosy couples and separate area for families. What more could you want.

Have been twice this week, the first visit was for the Carvery and it was lovely a great selection of veg and both myself and my partner really enjoyed it. We visited again today for the buffet breakfast we were quite late in arriving but the food was still lovely and hot and we both enjoyed it. My partner said it’s one of the best breakfasts he’d had. The staff are always warm and welcoming and it’s good value for money. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Ordered take away carvery (brave, I know) arrived half hour late cold. Extra Yorkshire pudding and pigs in blanket squashed in a little bag. No gravy. Warmed it up in microwave, veg tasted like cardboard. Nice meat though. Never again

Terrible! Took my 86 year old Mother yesterday for our first visit. Choice on the Sunday Carvery was excellent BUT everything was barely warm! By the time we got back to our table everything was cold and veg undercooked! Saving Grace was Zoe who was great! Had to take mums back and out on the hot plate which did hardly anything and mine had to have fresh HOT gravy all over it in an attempt to warm the whole thing up! Would not return unfortunately based on our experience yesterday 3 April.

We came for breakfast on Easter Monday and all of the staff were lovely! We have a 7 week old baby and had to settle him before eating but Zoe came to check that the food was okay and had a lovely bubbly and welcoming personality which put us at ease and made us really enjoy our visit! The food was gorgeous, the restaurant is clean and tidy and the overall atmosphere makes this a place we will definitely return to ❤️

Been here a few times over the years & have brought family here to try it out. The choice of vegetables for the carvery cannot be beaten in our opinion. Recently depending who's carving, the meat portion given can be a bit small.

  • 3/5 Louis H. 2 years ago on Google
Fantastic carvery. Beware when ordering for delivery via Just Eat though. It feels like a slot machine on whether you're going to have your order correct or not, customers have complained on the site of receiving the wrong meat etc. Most recent experience personally is I received a pot of curry instead of gravy which soured the enjoyment of the meal a bit. I made a couple attempts to call and remedy it but no one answered the phone. It's unfortunate because the experience before that was great If there was anything to improve on it'd definitely be the delivery service

Prices are very good for both food and drink given how things are recently. Most independents around heavily overcharge but the Greene King chain have kept their prices reasonable. The sirloin steak I had was excellent. Only one slight gripe in that covid seems to have been pushed to the back seat as I saw little in the way of measures that were previously in place and none of the staff wore masks. I appreciate this is no longer a requirement in law but it did make me feel a little uncomfortable at times and for the smallest of concessions, I think it would make a huge difference if they showed a little more willing when dealing close up with clients.

  • 5/5 Paul W. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent food selection served hot and quickly even though they were busy.Carvery had excellent choice of veg and someone was making sure they were fresh by adding fresh veg and removing those that had been there too long. The desserts were to die for as usual with a huge selection of ice-cream for children at reasonable prices. All in all a really good experience.

  • 2/5 Mary C. 2 years ago on Google
Monday evening, restaurant not too busy but service and food was horrendous. Ordered via app but drinks alone took 30 minutes and had to chase twice. Carvery roast potatoes, pigs and blankets and stuffing was burnt and the cauliflower cheese had no sauce just a sprinkle of cheese on top. Asked for cutlery 3 times before having to get our own as food was going cold. Awful experience and won't be returning

  • 5/5 Rob P. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent Cavery, the ultimate carvery is amazing value at £11.45 for those with a large apatite. Good value for money. Friendly & helpful staff. Would definitely recommend

I booked for a party of 7 adults 1st November ‘21z. We all enjoyed the carvery. Later we ordered 6 Eaton Mess. 3 times we ask how much longer but no one was bothered. An hour later they arrived with no strawberries and no wafers. See your printed recipe. It was a Birthday celebration and this was extremely disappointing At no time did anyone come to tell us there was a problem or give us any information at all.
