Absolutely delicious food here! I couldn’t choose a sauce so I asked the server what he recommended, he recommended a garlic sauce and I did not regret it 😋 the prawns were really meaty, the rice and pea is very fragrant and has coconut flavour in it too. I would definitely come back for sure 😌✨🌈

Fantastic staff. Mutton curry with rice and peas were really good (slightly salty but likely personal taste). Food however took 50 minutes to arrive and only 1 small fridge meant only a handful of cold beers. So close to bring so good

The goat curry was delicious, wasn’t as impressed with the jerk chicken, very gristly. Dumpling was very good, food was all fresh, and piping hot. Would return 😊

Really good Jamaican food, would definitely recommend. Great atmosphere inside and good music by the DJ. Had some of the best drinks there.

This restaurant is an absolute land mind of ROBUST CARIBBEAN FLAVORS!! I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying some of the best Caribbean food since I can remember from my mother and grandmother. Felt just like I was in taken back in time with how precise and on point the flavors were. The jerk chicken burger is my absolute favourite! My partner is vegan and I must say that I if the staff didn’t tell me it was vegan, I would have never figured it out. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FLAVORS!!!!!!!! Five Stars easily earned!!

Great food but I cannot recommend this as a place to try. Avoid at all costs! (Read my edit lower down as well) The server was lovely but she was literally the only person in the restaurant taking all the orders, making drinks, serving the food, clearing the tables. That was clearly a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting for 1.5 hours exactly before our food was served - this is by far the longest I have ever waited for food anywhere in my life! Communication during this wait was nonexistent and any time we tried to ask, the poor server was too busy to get an answer for us from the kitchen. It looked like the restaurant was clearly prioritising takeaway orders as there was a nonstop stream of takeaway bags and drivers making their way out of the restaurant. I still don't understand why they continued to sit people down. They should've either closed the restaurant for those wanting to dine in or started rejecting takeaway orders (something a lot of restaurants do when they don't have the capacity). After 1 hour 30 minutes the food finally arrived. It was quite tasty, though maybe it was the hunger making us think that. Having looked at some other reviews since our visit we clearly haven't been the only ones in this situation before, and it's something that seems to keep happening. I would not risk the crazy potential wait times for food that could be a 4 out of 5 if everything else had been perfect (which it wasn't!). Edit: In reply to the message below, this happened on Saturday 13 August. By the type of reply below, it is evident of what you can expect. I hope people really see what type of business this is. I gave some accurate feedback based on exactly what we experienced and the response is essentially that I'm apparently giving an unsubstantiated claim and that I should have raised my concerns to them directly. During the night we mentioned our wait for food, but as already written it was out of the hands of the poor staff member. I actually praised the taste of the food and have been very sympathetic about the situation with the restaurant only having one server. This review is more a review of the business owner/manager at this stage. These types of replies attacking customers as if they're making it up or are to blame for the situation is not a good look.

Me and my partner loved this place. We both loved the chick pea and potato curry with fresh salad and kidney bean rice and soya mutton. We also got the chips and This place is great for vegans who want a tasty wholesome meal!

Visited on Saturday night and had an absolutely lovely meal. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with really friendly staff. They play some classic and new reggae tunes in the background which creates such a feel-good vibe. I had the long belly vegan bowl which is a tasty selection of vegan dishes which were all seasoned to perfection and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had curry mutton and said it melted in his mouth he loved it! And the dumplings... well what can I say, they were fresh and fluffy, the best dumplings I have ever had. We enjoyed the evening so much and will definitely be back for more. So glad we have such a great restaurant in Coventry 😁

Authentic and real vibes! Was stuffed and had to take some of it home. The homemade ginger was also a welcomed treat! Definitely fiery! The curry mutton was so divine 😍 juicy, tender, well seasoned. Well presented and service with a smile!

Yummy caribbean food at really reasonable prices - great portion sizes too. We shared saltfish fritters to start, then had jerk chicken, oxtail, rice and peas, steamed veg and plantain. All delicious.

Another absolutely BANGIN" night at Esmies HALLOWEEN MURDER MYSTERY ! There was 20 of us booked a table and the food, Mickey DJ and the whole evening was AMAZING as ALWAYS !! The place was packed and everyone had the best time !!

Visited last Sunday There was 6 of us. The food was amazing. Between us we all had different dishes and all of them were ten out of ten ! Lily and Isaac were very friendly and professional. We will definitely be back soon . Thank you

First time eating at leave it to esmie and wow what a treat it was had a starter king prawns with pico de galo, oxtail stew with fried dumplings and plantains and a side of mac n cheese, really enjoyed all of the meal, nice music to match the foods

I have been previously been told this restaurant is not so great . But wanting to judge of my own experience I took my mother for a meal . A lovely lady waitress named Hollie recommended I should have the fried fish after telling her im a chef and really fussy. Well every single mouthful was delicious and the cocktail worked lol .

Never disappoints! The kind of playlist you have on at home (appreciate the old school). Real family vibe and of course food is what keeps us coming back.

Disappointed I'm afraid. We had the special which was lamp chops and chicken wings with chips and salad. For £10 each I found the portion to be quite small. The lamb was very tough! The 'chips' which were fries were cheap, The salad with sauce was lovely however. But paying £10 for sauce and salad with wings that turned out to be 2 chicken chunks is awful. The staff were friendly and pleasant, the establishment had a good atmosphere but that was more from the people from the Twisted barrel outside. I would try the place again however.

Went to the Reggae Halloween Murder Mystery night at Esmie’s. There were 20 of us, had an amazing time. Great venue, atmosphere, music and food! Highly recommend it and can’t wait to book again.

Indeed the best Caribbean food in Coventry. The Jerk Chicken was flavoursome and freshly grilled on the open fire, and the Mutton Curry was very juicy. Compliments to the chef!

Absolutely amazing experience. I booked thr upstairs room for a party and buffet dinner. Everyone was impressed with the food, the service was friendly and fun. The cocktails were tasty and strong. Definitely a great place for a small (10-20) party.

It was great to order from Esmie's. I work for a local company and asked if Esmie's could cater for 15. It was not problem, and the purchasing process was straightforward. I was called when they were due to deliver the food, and came on time. The food was delicious, full of flavour and everyone in my office was impressed. I will be sure to use their services in the future. Menu White rice Rice and peas Jerk Chicken Jerk Seitan Steamed veg and Esmie included salad free of charge!

Me and my partner both agree that the last meal we had at Esmies was the best meal we had ever eaten. (don’t tell my mum 🤣) Every single mouthful of food tastes as good as the last, and everything from the customer service to the food is 10/10. We also bought some mango chilli homemade sauce and cannot wait to put it on literally every meal we have

Went for lunch with a group of friends . I never normally write reviews. Was really pleasantly surprised with the tasty food as well as the cheerful attentive happy staff . We are all now Caribbean food lovers! Thank you for a lovely lunch and happy memories

We had a lovely visit to Esmies place. The food was delicious, drinks were good and plentiful, and the service and fellow customers were friendly. There was a bit of a delay with our food but we were offered free cocktails to compensate which was more than generous. The food was very reasonably priced and good hearty portions. We'll definitely return if we're back in Cov.

Second visit to Esmie’s. Once again food was superb. However service was very poor. Thirty minutes after our order was accepted we received our drinks!! It took just short of an hour for any food to arrive, despite several assurances “ it won’t be long now” such a shame. One observation was all the Just Eat, Uber eats etc drivers that were collecting, looked liked they got priority. Such a shame as the food is brilliant, probably our last visit though.

The food is great, no doubt about it. The mutton curry is to die for. The staff are great, but the food came out in drips and drabs but that is also partly our fault (12 of us) for not being more organised. We did have some side dishes not appearing. You can order from the table via an app or pop to the bar to order. The app is good but could have a little improvement. With all of that said. This place is worth a visit.

My wife and I went for meal on Saturday evening. It is a small restaurant with about 10 tables downstairs. The servers were very friendly. The food was brilliant home cooked Jamaican style. The price was very reasonable. We both enjoyed it and would recommend.

Absolutely fantastic, never experienced such fantastic freshly cooked food, amazing service and amazing drinks,even if you don't like Guinness, try the Guinness cocktail! Cannot recommend highly enough!

Great atmosphere, amazing food and the cocktails... nice and strong perfecto.

The jerk chicken bowl was very nice but not peppery enough even though I asked for hot, it was a well balanced meal with rice, stew veg, plantain and a small salad. I would say the portion of chicken was on the small side though. The Guinness punch was delicious! The online order system worked well and food was served in good time. Would go again :)

A great evening was had by Leicester Teachers at Esme’s first Death in Paradise evening.
