We visited during the Heritage Open Days and we really enjoyed it. We’ve been here before but it’s been awhile. What a beautiful place. A real gem in the city. So much historical and so well preserved. Like the freedom that we could wander everywhere without people trying to get you to see something. The rooms are so intricate with so much history and detail. I felt you could spend an afternoon there if you loved history. I’d highly recommend a visit!

Death, intrigue, scandal and spilt custard...are not compulsory when you visit St. Mary's Guildhall, but can be discovered in more than 600 years worth of stories from the finest medieval guildhall in the country. Located in the city's historic Cathedral Quarter, St. Mary's Guildhall miraculously survived the Second World War bombing raids, and stands as a monument to the power and wealth of medieval Coventry. With magnificent interiors, collections of armour, historic furniture, artworks and internationally important tapestries, the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. A prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, a theatre for Shakespeare and an inspiration to George Eliot, St. Mary's Guildhall is a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city of Coventry. Is currently closed for renovations and will reopen at the beginning of 2022.

A stunning medieval site to visit in Coventry. This timber-framed guildhall was built in 1340 and still remain in good condition escaping the bombs during the 2nd World War on 14th November, 1940 which brought down Coventry Cathedral next to it. It was a place where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1569, Shakespeare had performed and during the War of the Roses, Henry VI and Queen Margaret of Anjou used to be entertained. Admission is free and open on Sunday to Thursday 10am - 4pm from April to October. Make sure to visit the Undercroft cafe open all year Mon-Fri 9:30am - 4pm which provides delicious lunches at reasonable price.

Recently reopened this medieval building built in 1342 is well worth a visit. It has been brilliantly restored. A cafe and tea room is due to open shortly.

Very clean place, recently completely redone, very well informed staff providing lots of information. But still, tickets are very expensive for such a smallish place. But it's definitely worth a visit.

Gemstone in a concrete jungle.....hidden away in side lanes of historic Coventry, this classic building is draped in history that is the envy of many global cities....yet underrated and not used as showcase for this city.....a must to visit the building and the area it sits in Enjoy

Beautiful old building. No entrance fee, stair lift to main hall but not to upper rooms. Lots of information panels with interesting details. The upper rooms have furniture and really give a sense of how they were used and what it would be like back then. No toilet, but there is a cafe right next to it.

Lovely (very) old building. First time back since we got married here - we heard the restoration project had been completed. Very good video tour with a tablet. There was so much I didn't know beforehand.

Fantastic afternoon tea at St Mary's Guildhall - Tales of Tea. Spacious and very atmospheric in the crypt. Plenty of tables and very busy when we booked for Saturday 10th September 2022. The food is pricey, but well worth it as every item is handmade and exquisite. The service from the waitresses and the host was outstanding. If you wish to leave a tip do make sure it's in cash - otherwise the owners retain it. Last booking is 2.45pm most days but, hopefully, hours will be extended in the near future. Thank you very much to all the team for making this a really enjoyable experience.

We went in the summer holidays. The children has a great time with King Henry and his Jester. The activities were well thought out and could be enjoyed by all. The Guildhall itself is very impressive. It is very interactive and has tablets and audio tours for children and adults. The explorer and sensory bags were also a great touch.

What an amazing gem of history! It’s like traveling in time across 700 years since when Coventry first became an independent city and eventually the centre of power in England when Henry VI moved to the city during the War of the Roses. Fascinating place, very well kept and wonderful staff sharing their knowledge of history across every century.

The Guildhall is very beautiful and situated in what survives of Coventry's atmospheric historic quarter. However, whoever, in their wisdom, decided that it is fair to go cashless on the entrance fee needs to think again. Foreign tourists may face extra bank charges. Domestic visitors may prefer cash. It's called choice. On this basis, I would not recommend this or indeed any other historic destination that insists on cashless payments.

Little hidden gem in the heart of Coventry. Historically interesting place to visit with knowledgeable staff. Had fun trying on the garments and hats relevant to the times.

Myself and my husband came for lunch here today and I would just love to say what a lovely place 'Tales of Tea ' is ! Absolutely brilliant what they have achieved here and lovely building as the setting. The staff were brilliant and very attentive and the service was great. We will be back very soon 😊

Visited this wonderful building on Wednesday 6 July. Great staff, who ensured an elderly gentleman could manage the information tablet. This was really useful, but I learnt considerably more from the lovely lady member of staff who accompanied me. What she told me about the tapestry wouldn’t be on the tablet, and I was captivated by her account of how this precious building was prepared for the blitz by removing stained glass, the tapestry and finials in the roof to a place of safe keeping. Well done to all who have invested time, money and skills to preserve this place for us. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff - thank you all. Went on to enjoy a cream tea at the tea room and then explore the new cathedral, which reduced me to tears.

Absolutely worth a visit. It's a shame that it's not advertised more, I have walked past it a number of times without realising it was a museum. It's very good value, very well staffed and very very interesting. Coventry has a number of gems like this but doesn't shout about them enough

Had a wonderful visit to the Guildhall! I enjoyed it so much I booked to go back again! The tablets provide lots of information as you go around. The staff are very knowledgeable and told us so many interesting facts and told us what we were looking at. I popped my head into the restaurant afterwards which looked gorgeous, so will book a table there next time. Definitely worth a visit, especially for history buffs

Lovey experience. Went during October half term with my 3 year old. Visited the tea room for afternoon tea, it was amazing. Lovely selection and the kids afternoon tea was beautiful and my girl really enjoyed it. We then went round the tour, followed the Halloween trail. We both enjoyed it. The actors hired were super with my small one and interacted all the time.

Absolutely loved the tour. Booked online easy to do. So interesting will definitely be going back again. Great way to appreciate Coventry's 700+ years of history. Can have a ipad and earphones (included in price of admission) to explain each room or read written info in rooms or buy a guide. Was fascinated from the get go. Definitely worth a visit 👍😁🌞.

This place is wonderful to take children 8 plus years. Different stair ways to climb. Some stairways a bit steep and twisty. The blood on the stairs going up to the hall that never seams to disappear. Armour on the walls. And free entry.

Went here 2 years ago on my vacation. Found it by accident walking from the cathedral. So glad I did. The history of this building is incredible. It is quite stunning in the main hall. And the rooms upstairs are awesome too.this is truly a Coventry gem to be seen.

What a magnificent venue! Steeped in history yet with all modern facilities. Vaulted ceilings to rival Kings College, a tapestry to rival the one from Bayeux, a minstrels gallery peopled by historic suits of armour and the chest that housed the crown jewels during the Civil War. All this and a bar...what more could you want?!
