I visited a lot of cathedrals during my quest to complete the pilgrim passport and this is one of the most memorable because instead of rebuilding the cathedral from the ruins of ww2, they created a solemn and majestic cathedral next to ruins to remind people of the cruelty of war. There are some interesting relics in the modern cathedral, including a cross that survived the bombing. Highly recommend visiting here when in the midland

A very dramatic, artsy building, the colours and angles are very awe inspiring, but I'm just not convinced it's a Christian building. The statues, the pictures and other images made me want to go back to those beautiful old ruins next door where you definitely know it was created for the worship of a Christian God. Free entry, very clean wheelchair access to all areas(lifts), nice clean toilets. Lots of things to see, very helpful staff/ guides.

A truly neat place to visit. The ruins are on one side and the cathedral is in the other side. Gorgeous exhibits and a lot of history. Cute little gift shop inside the cathedral and clean restrooms (toilets) for visitors.

The new building is magnificent, the stain glass windows are wonderful, it’s really refreshing to see a (relatively) new build really on keeping with its surroundings. A wonderful place to visit. A small donation makes you feel slightly less of a freeloader as there’s no entry fee 😁.

The ruined cathedral is a beautiful historical building, with a powerful atmosphere very moving to stand or sit "inside". Well worth the climb up the tower. The rebuilt cathedral stands next to it and is also well spending time to visit. Free entry but donation are appreciated.

It was a joy to visit. Basil Spence's new cathedral is a modern masterpiece and very accessible, both physically and spiritually. We started in the ruins of the previous cathedral before crossing the link. The new site well with the old. Take time to explore the new space and be sure to keep stopping and looking all around. We'll worth a visit

The ruined cathedral is a beautiful historical building, the place has quite an atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit, I would revisit without a doubt. There is opportunity to climb the spire/tower, unfortunately when we visited it was closed. So another reason to make a return visit. More information boards would be nice is my only criticism.

The old cathedral, very special & meaningful. Preserved from before the blitz, however the spire was unaffected by the bombs, & has stood since mediaevil times. You don't need to buy a ticket to get in & the old cathedral is free, though the modern one wants a donation

Cathedral built with passion and faith. The city has had three cathedrals. The first was St Mary's, a monastic building, from 1102-1539, of which only a few ruins remain. The second was St Michael's, a 14th-century Gothic church designated as a cathedral in 1918, which remains a ruined shell after its bombing during the Second World War. The third is the new St Michael's Cathedral, built immediately adjacent after the destruction of the former, consecrated in 1962.

The modern and old cathedrals next to each other are a wonderful contrast. It was great to see the clergy in the cathedral talking to visitors. Donations in discreet facilities boxes were nice to see. We had a great visit

Beautiful place for a graduation ceremony. The glasswork is so colourful and the work completed on the exterior has been done to a high standard. Very basic and uncomfortable seating unfortunately and rather subdued for a celebratory event. Sound quality was also fairly poor so presenting speakers were difficult to fully make out.

First time actually going inside, it was free to go in, donations by card or cash are welcomed. The wooden chairs were actually really comfortable! The words written on the walls and floor was very interesting. 👍🏾 it is worth a visit.

Wonderfully peaceful cathedral. We weren't asked for an entrance charge, but plenty of opportunities around the cathedral to make a donation. The old cathedral was well kept and thought provoking. We were lucky enough to hear an organ recital whilst there.

At first glance it looks like a cluster on churches, so you weren’t sure which was which till you get closer. There are some impressive ruins and a new building/cathedral, which was built after the original was destroyed during the war (ruins). After initially thinking the new building was ugly, when you read it’s journey, it’s makes more sense, and is a fitting tribute.

Really interesting tour around the destroyed remains of the cathedral and the new cathedral. Great cafe is the basement too - really quaint

There are two cathedrals right next to each other. There is the bombed out shell of the old cathedral and down the steps is the newer cathedral which does have a 1950s/1960s. Although impressive as a building, it hasn't aged well. If you do visit the new cathedral - do give them a donation. There is a card reader for those who dont carry cash.

Its a Really good place to go for a Walk without the stress. It's a bit hard with the Parking when you don't know, but it's really quiet and peaceful, the Cemetery is really close, the main road is next either.

A stunning building by Basil Spence we loved it. Also to have remains of the bombed original cathedral next to it was interesting.

Beautiful building with so much detail and thought. Take the time to read the information and take everything in as well as look at the original ruins of the building next door. The staff are all lovely, extremely helpful, friendly and polite. I would highly recommend to anyone that finds themselves in Coventry.

We all went to our old school friend who lives in Coventry. On Sunday we decided to go to City centre to see Christmas market. From there we decided to go and see this famous Cathedral. What an amazing structure. Old Cathedral has a massive history. The new one obviously looked more commercial but is beautifully designed and built. The new cathedral first opened to public was in the year 1962. Sharing some pics.

So much history and so worth a visit to learn about the history of Coventry the old and the new cathedrals. Stayed locally for one night at The Telegraph Hotel which was stunning.

Amazing building. Ruins that withstand the testament of world war. The best part is new buildings are seamlessly built and integrated with the old building. The church had a lot of interesting artistic walls.

Such an interesting place, nice to see the old cathedral juxtapositioned with the stark outside of the new. But inside the new is a calm space beautifully lit by the stain glass windows. Nice to arrive with the organ being played as well. A Coventry must see, I think.

A fine and inspiring contemporary cathedral. The Western glass wall is superbly decorated. The Chancel in evening light is beautiful. Notice the pennies embedded in the floor between the stone slabs

Went to see G4 at the Cathedral and it was a brilliant night of entertainment in an amazing setting. G4 were brilliant, and the young people from PQA who were the choir were amazing. One tip though, take a cushion and a blanket, seats are uncomfortable and it is freezing cold.

Absolutely stunning, I've always wanted to visit and it didn't disappoint. Staff were really friendly and informative had a great chat about the window.

The cathedral was nice, I'd recommend visiting it if you're already in the city but don't dedicate an entire trip to Coventry for it, there's not much info or guides on the history of the place but it is really pretty

The old monument is all wrecked, but still looks beautiful n you can imagine how beautiful it would had been. On the other side, the new cathedral is beautiful a must visit place

So much could be done here, so much more information could be told about the history, the materials things are made from. As much as I had a lovely visit I was disappointed, I was asking questions to myself and was left wondering about the history of the place. We went to Coventry especially to visit here but ended up spending more time in a few shops in the town. Ok to pop in of you are in the area but wouldn't make a special trip to visit.

A wonderful and historical experience and all free 🤩

Bombed out cathedral really impressive - doesn't seem to close at certain time. On street parking nearby - not badly priced if only want short visit (pay ar meter by coins or website - charge extra for using card service). Newer cathedral very modern - we were able to join a service as arrived after 4 (no visitors after then unless attend service). Both well worth a visit

Fabulous building. Beautiful stained glass window. A building that gives hope. And the best welcome poster ever!

Nice part of covery bringing together old and new. The ruins directly opposite the new cathedral offers a nice juxtaposition. You're two minutes from anything the city centre has to offer and there are frequent outdoor events held here

A beautiful building, a fine example of modern expressive architecture, but it is showing its age. The lighting installed in the 1960's does nothing to really reveal its greatness. It could easily be improved to show the beauty of the slender columns resting on those steel pins supporting the vaulting in the roof. The only lights are hideous industrial units in the roof which at ground level provide little real illumination. I would quickly add done properly it would not detract from the amazing stained glass. I felt I should be impressed, and in a way was.

Gorgeous cathedral with lots to see. Both the new and old cathedral can be visited and there are small exhibitions available as well. Beautiful architecture and stunning stained glass work. Definitely visit if you're in the area!
