This hotel is located well if you want to go in to town however it is extremely dated and needs a good clean. Being intoxicated helped me sleep! I had read reviews before my stay (was booked by the company I work for) so I took bleach wipes for the bathroom and was so pleased I had. Not sure how long the gas canisters, toilet seat and beer bottles have been on the roof and was unsure what caused the windows to have what looked like bullet holes in!

This hotel has severe cleanliness issues. I have a photo showing the toilet bowl covered in fleas. The reception staff there were also extremely unprofessional in dealing with the issues. One of which was that they told me to park in a specific car park โ€œwhere they tell all of their guests to parkโ€ I explained that the car park says students and teachers of the university only and they said no itโ€™s fine, I returned to my car to find that it had been locked inside the compound. The staff at the hotel said it wasnโ€™t their issue and there is nothing they can do as it isnโ€™t their car park. I had to leave before sleeping and go to another hotel because it was so dirty, this was more difficult than expected as I had to wait to gain access to my car.

The main positive for the hotel is its location. We attended a graduation at the cathedral and the hotel is perfectly located. Sadly there isn't much else positive to add. At best this is a 2* hotel and everything is dated. We had two rooms and one of the beds would be an embarrassment in a skip. There was a strong smell of weed throughout the hotel which you couldn't get away from. The same can be said for the city of Coventry which must be the weed capital of the UK. If you can find an alternative hotel, I strongly suggest you do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Would of gave this three starts or more if the main boss didn't remind me of Basil Fawlty. I said to him, I just arrived late because my coach was late and after going only for a number 1 not 2 lol, and the toilet wouldn't flush, I made a little joke out of it. He looked at his watch, huffed in that uncaring way & said "there's nothing we can do at this time" and walked off. It took a younger staff member to say "but would you like another room instead". Which was very helpful and considerate of him, I was very thankful for. However the room I was moved too was next to a young couple arguing all night long. The air con (like the other room) was...window slightly open window, which let more sound of drunks in then air!. Every guest I bumped into the next morning moaned about it, so it wasn't just me. One lad told me he was going out to buy some ear plugs. The staff are nice, don't get me wrong. But it's a losing battle for them, when management are obnoxious. Telling other guests that only one lift is working because of the heat ๐Ÿ˜‚. I've never known that, how old were those lifts to be affected by the heat ๐Ÿ˜‚.

We booked this hotel using their direct website and travelled over 300 miles to get there. When we arrived we were told that there were no rooms left as they had all been given out. I told them this could not be possible as I had booked a room earlier and confirmed over the phone. On top of this they had taken my bank details for this reservation. They told me nothing could be done and that their system allows as many people as possible to book and it works on a first come first basis. I asked them to cancel the booking and record it as their fault for overselling the hotel. The staff refused to give me their name or the name of the manager. Would never book here again.

Was expecting a complete nightmare for the price and after reading the other reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Very helpful staff, clean yet dated room. Yes could smell smoking and weed but we soon put a stop to that, the duty manager was very helpful. Would I stay again? Yes for that price I would.

The hotel is very rundown and dated. Our room was terrible. See photos. The food and the staff made up for this place. I would not recommend this hotel as an independent traveler. The only way I gave 3 stars is for the staff and food. The last photo is of a seat in the bar.

I cannot fault the customer service here, but other than that, my stay was awful. I asked to change room due to the smoky smell along my corridor, which wafted into my room. The curtains didn't draw fully and the cold tap trickled out water, which didn't help when the hot water had a caution sign by it for how hot it was. My second room was better, but my visit finished off the following morning by being told there was no space for me in the breakfast room for another hour, so I was told I could take my breakfast up to my room. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone and really think it needs a lot of work doing to it!

The hotel is in desperate need of renovation. Some of the issues include; dusty ventilation, wallpaper peeling off the wall, difficult to turn dials for the shower, cracked mirrors and flickering, loud light bulbs. The TV's are also extremely small. The breakfast was also fairly poor. The bacon was rock-hard and the eggs had no colour on them. During the 3 nights we stayed there they didn't come to empty the bins or swap towels once. This also meant that the toilet didn't get cleaned at all. There's also no toilet brush so you can't do it yourself. Will not be staying here again.

Stayed for three days. Location is great. But rooms are dated and needs some revamped. Windows were so dirty. But you get what you pay for in this matter. It is affordable and perfect for those who just needs a place to stay. Make sure you have IDโ€™s on check in.

Overall decent experience. Beds were comfy enough and room was big enough, it even had a bath! Though TV was tiny. The evening meal was of decent quality, but the breakfast meal was something left to be desired. The orange juice was concentrated and warm, the bacon had so much fat on it, and the sausages were not great. Friendly staff however, helped make up for this. The windows were so thin, you could hear the anti-social behaviour and sirens outside; their was a constant cold draft as well. There was also this loud white noise - it sounded like air conditioning but also could have been a diesel truck or bus that came and go. My sleep experience was okay, but could have been better. I could happily stay there again for one night, but not more!

Cheap and central to the city centre. No parking. Bed was lumpy. Rooms are a big size. One receptionist was quiet but nice. Another receptionist, acted like a bouncer, was a little rude. Shower was working but not very strong power. Get a hairdryer, Tv, iron in the room.

Location was pretty much the only good thing about this hotel. The decor is dated and feels a bit run down. Picture The Shining. I half expected to see the twins in the hallway. The room is large but barely any furniture worth using. Plug is on far wall from the bed, which makes using electronics difficult in bed. Tiny tv in corner of room away from bed so nearly impossible to use while in bed. The shower nozzle had to be held or it kept flipping up making showering a chore. Internet kept cutting out and bad cell reception in the rooms. No DnD sign for the door so staff cleaning staff just walk in without knocking. All in all would not stay here again if I had a choice. Luckily my company paid so I didn't waste the money.

Where to start. Window coming away from frame & stuffed with newspaper to keep it in. Shower broken. No soap in dispenser. Note to say that there would be no bedroom services. Unable to control heating & was at max output. Food was all frozen nothing fresh. Over cooked bacon & eggs in the morning. Tea & coffee was tasteless. In need of decoration & upgrading. Never again.

The hotel was chosen by the Travel Company Coach trip that we travelled with for the 2 days. It is set right around the corner from the Coventry Cathedral in walking distance surrounded by concrete high rise buildings but close to many shops and Take Away eateries. As soon as you walk through the glass doors on the ground floor the reception desk and waiting sitting area is in full view, it has 3 lifts further down the hall. The lifts were big enough for 15 people each, basic nothing flashy, The rooms had card key unlocking system but looks like they might had been updated over what previously might have been key locks, The room looked clean and I did circulate a dust finger inspection and it passed. The room was in need of an update like everywhere in the hotel, the t.v was on a dated t.v stand and not big enough for the room, the dressing table lamp did not work but the lady on the desk did try to change the bulb but with no luck so she mentioned it would go into the maintenance log. The room had a double wardrobe with long mirrors which had an iron and ironing board, 2 each of pillows and blankets. The dated dresser had a side which I placed my mum's case on to use and in the draws was a hairdryer. There was a tea and coffee making set, I did not sleep very well on the 2 nights even though I was exhausted from the all day traveling on the coach, it felt like a medium to hard bed. The bathroom again was very dated but clean as you could make a worn out bathroom sweet, the shower leaked and again the lady tried to change it but the rubber seal needed changing as it still leaked, there was no soap in the dispenser for the shower. When we came back down to visit the dining room for our Breakfast and Evening meals the decor was very 1920's but again very worn and tired, as with everywhere there wasn't enough staff especially from the kitchen as food took up to 15 minutes to replace what food ran out and the counter work top was very burnt and outdated. The food was edible but not great and was served with plates that were hardly warm for the food. The staff were friendly but were rushing around bringing clean cutlery out like it was them who just washed them. The cups needed a severe bleaching as I found it very hard to find a cup that didn't have tea stains in them. The tables were cleaned and reset but noticed a member of staff wearing her outdoor jacket whilst cleaning away the table and tidying up. They did offer a 2 for 1 on drinks but this was very limited in selection and didn't even taste nice ( double vodka and coke, Malibu and coke) they didn't taste like what they were supposed to be. Overall the hotel needed money spending all areas to improve, BUT the staff were friendly and obliging, and helpful. Would I stay here again knowing this, maybe for 1 or 2 nights maximum.

Family weekend away. Noise from the lift alnight. We had a family room springs through mattresses on 2 of the beds the other 2 were not much better. There was no telephone number to call down to the reception I phoned from my personal phone 20+ times busy late I phoned them from the reception area and said busy there was no one around ? Headboard coming of wall . So hot in room, toilet did not flush. Horrible smell coming from outside as widow open a slight bit to try to cool down the room but had to close due to the smell. We spoke to the receptionist who said she would look in to this , later a fan was in the room but nothing else had been done so again went to reception where the manager was he said every thing was ok I explained that it wasn't and could he come up and have a look. He was so rude and treated us like something on the bottom of his shoe. The toilet did flush and said and that was with my little finge, i tried again a few minutes late while he was still there and it would not flush , he then said it was abig hotel and it would probably only flush every 20 minutes ( this is a family room x4 people ) he said he would put another fan in the room. He said there was nothing wrong with the beds because of his manner we we our children and went for a cold drink in the bar area . Later he said a mattress had been changed and they had sprayed the room asked what about the other beds he walked away. We went back to the room, no extra fan 1 mattress had been changed and due to what ever her had sprayed was over powering and as two of us have asthma we struggled and had to camp out in the reception untill after midnight where the children fell asleep while the window and fan tried to get the smell smell away. I am upset in the manner we where treated. To end on a positive all others staff acted very professional and i would rate the food in the restaurant 10/10.

Room clean and tidy, if a little dated, but no hesitation staying here again, everything I needed, nothing I didn't. Would recommend. Breakfast was great. Either pay when you book, or pay at the front counter in the morning.

In a convenient location, rooms are spacious. However smokers have ruined this place, stinking and cigarette buds all over the place. Didn't get a chance to see the dining. Overall decent and convenient for short stays.

Nothing special but can't be beat for value for money. Room unremarkable with average cleanliness. Bed not bad, and TV didn't work. But I was only staying for a night and didn't really mind, because this is right in the centre of the city and half the price of other hotels and AirBnBs nearby. Being just a 2 minute walk from the bus station was fantastic

The hotel looks tired and you have to have photo ID to check in! The sheets were clean, the room was warm and it is really handy for the city centre. I felt sad as this would have been a really nice hotel in its heyday.

  • 1/5 Catalina M. 1 year ago on Google
I don't where to start. First, the staff is rude, and completely unhelpful. They don't even say hello to you when you enter in the reception, and when you ask for something is like they are annoyed (there is only one guy in the morning who is really nice, the rest, terrible). We had a mail coming to the hotel, they never called us to tell that it arrived. Second, they don't clean your room, we stayed for two weeks and we had to ask (actually beg) for two straight days, at least 6 times, for they to come and clean our room just once. And for that, they asked us to stay all day out, in a rainy day, because they didn't have a specific time to clean, and it could be between 11 am and 6 pm. Third, they don't accept card with pin, so if you have a foreign visa or mastercard, you will have to bring cash. Sadly, we couldn't find another hotel in short notice.

  • 1/5 Jake 11 months ago on Google
Reception staff was rude and initially unhelpful when we tried to check in. We had booked online and no where did it state both the customer and the guest required photo ID. My partner had her ID, however I didn't have mine. We had travelled a few hundred miles and just wanted a place to sleep and shower. Initially we were told no ID, no entry by reception staff, but we requed and I explained the situation, and the guy pointed at the sign on the desk, asking if I have read the sign (which states no ID, no entry), I promptly told him I can read just fine, but the website doesn't state a requirement to show ID if booking online and that it says in the hotel that only people booking and paying in person are required to show ID. The staff accepted that (while stating he was unhappy still), and then we went to the room. Room wasn't very inviting, but fine. Main issue was the fact that next to the bed was a door, leading directly into another guests room?? As for the area, what a dive coventry has become.

Mouldy room. Strong drug smell, and room service just left the window open as a solution. It was so strong that my clothes stank of it when I went out. No heating in many rooms Faulty electrics hanging off the walls. Scratching sound that woke me up at 3.30am and wouldn't stop. Lights that flicker. Even tried having a bath at 4am to relax and go back to sleep, but the bulb in the bathroom was so loud with an electrical humming I couldn't hear the music I put on. The shower/bath gel was empty. No toilet roll holder, so you have to talk across the room to get the toilet roll. Parking is down the road at a dodgy car park but no signs to let you know, so I drove around for 45 minutes trying to find parking. Reception were friendly enough but must have been dealing with 20 complaints an hour with the queue of complainers there every time I passed.

I was thrilled to see the spacious room with a queen-sized bed and a single bed. However, the hotel requires extensive repair and remodeling; it is antiquated, and cleanliness and upkeep might be improved; the bathroom is a bit small, and cleanliness should be improved. They do not provide toiletries and do not provide room service until requested. The most appealing aspect of this hotel is its proximity to the city center; shopping, sightseeing, restaurants, and pubs are all nearby; and the restaurant is excellent. Given the money we pay, I'd give it four stars, but I'm giving it three because cleanliness is of the the utmost significance to me.

Oh dear I've been in some basic hotels but this was really basic in a outdated room no WiFi unless you paid for it food was bland and the coffee wasn't even fit for rats. The service was terrible having young adults take your plates away no interaction at all leaning across your table without asking to take you plate no please or thank you. The beds are very small and uncomfortable creaking all the time woke up loads through the night because of it my back's in bits this morning.

The rooms were okay but a bit run down. Beds were two separate parts under the mattress, so it's not the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Staff at the front desk were a bit straightforward, not the most pleasant people I've come across. The location is nice.

Must have been a great hotel in the 70's but now. We'll its past its best. Still have De vere logos on all doors despite it being a Britannia

You get what you pay for. Positive - My room was large, warm and ensuite. Negative - Mis matched furniture, poor maintenance, and very old decor. The reception, cleaning and bar staff were very helpful. I think I will stay elsewhere if I am in Coventry, but am also prepared to pay more for the privilege of a better hotel.

Rooms clean, a bit shabby, beds to narrow for me and uncomfortable pillows.I found the hotel very hot in the rooms so turned the radiators off and it was still hot. Food bland but OK, edible. Everywhere is clean and staff pleasent and helpful.

Stayed in November. Can only check in at 4pm (nice of them to be able to hold luggage while we recce prior to check-in). Check out at 10am, just drop key in box. Big room with super single bed for 2 pax. Heater, hot shower, bathtub, toilet paper, clean bath towels, clean face towels, small hand soap, hair & body shower gel, electric kettle and some clothes hangers. Considerably maintained, a tad old and adequate for night stays. Walking distance from bus stops, eateries and shopping. Night bustling with activities outside but you wont get the noise in the room.

Great price, and bedding/towels were fresh and clean. The rest however was very dusty and outdated. Very basic accommodation for those on a budget so not too bad, but donโ€™t expect a lot. Shower/bathroom were also very crusty and the shower smelled when you turned it on.

Five stars for value. Room a little tired but, ยฃ50 cheaper than a travelodge. Staff are friendly and cant do enough for you. Nice big room, everything as it should be. Location is excellent loads of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, with the added extra of free on street parking after 4.00pm round the corner on Lower Ford Street. Or ยฃ1 over night in Lower Ford St Pay and Display after 6.00pm. I'll be back!

5 star โญ rating for the staff and their professionalism, warmth and welcoming. They made my stay at the hotel worth the visit. The hotel room allocated to me was clean and functional. The hotel overall needs major renovation. Would stay there again.

On arrival we had been down graded to two singles.. After a quick chat with reception this was quickly rectified. Our room was clean and warm with a bonus balcony and amazing view of the cathedral. Young man who dealt with us thumbs up geezer. Breakfast was included and was brilliant value.

Very happy, for the price it's really good. Room is basic but does everything you need. Clean and practical. Food again was basic but wholesome and plentiful. Staff are lovely and very helpful.

Only spent one night here, central location. The hotel was clean and well organised for a coach trip arrival. Bedroom was clean however dated with mixed furniture and windows were very dirty on the outside. Toiletries and towels were provided. Buffet style evening meal and breakfast, both good.

Booked this hotel for a colleague. Hotel was incredibly shabby. In desperate need of a refresh. The room was not as clean as a seasoned traveller would expect. Will never book a hotel in the Britannia Group again. Not worth the risk!

Surely this place has seen better days in the past. Only one star because of its position which allows you to escape the nightmare it is. I checked in on a Sunday evening and the man at the reception couldn't care less of my arrival, he gave me the key and told me the room number (did not mention how to reach it). The room has not been refurbished since forever, I guess... the wardrobe was broken, the bathroom in poor state of cleanliness with a very dusty fan. The lights had no bulbs and the bathtub was disgusting (with a soap dispenser more in line with a rubbish motel than with a proper hotel). No customer assistance, no interest in customers' satisfaction: just a nightmare you want to escape as fast as you can. One mornin, a man was sleeping on the couch in the lobby! Is it the image they want people have of their staying in Coventry?

  • 4/5 Yvonne L. 2 years ago on Google
Clean and tidy lovely food lovely helpful staff. I can see it's being slowly refurbished which it needs. For the price it was lovely. I would definitely come again.

This place has seen better days but it's fine for the price. The staff are friendly and rooms clean and functional for the budget price. Good as a place to sleep when going out to do other things but not a place to spend a lot of time in. Not really recommended for families, but OK for solo or small groups.

  • 5/5 Graham R. 2 years ago on Google
Loved it here, food was nice, staff were great. Rooms basic but spotless. Strange scent on 4th floor, I think someone may have been smoking something they shouldn't be. Apart from that, deffo stay there again.
