I never leave bad reviews and rarely complain at all, most errors I accept are mistakes and usually one time things. This ‘Hotel’ however was easily the worst I’ve ever been in. It took 15 minutes to check in despite the fact the room had been paid for a week in advance. All the windows were open in the room causing it to be absolutely freezing (approx 5 AM when I checked in). The toilet seat was not even on the toilet, just placed next to it, and then I was woken up to the sound of someone in my bathroom putting it on the toilet the next day. No knocking or warning before entering. The toilet paper was soaking wet and damaged massively. After I was awoken, they started taking furniture out of neighbouring rooms and smashing it apart in the corridor meaning I could not get back to sleep. As I work nights, 12 hour shifts, sleep is obviously vital and I had maybe four hours. The food in incredibly expensive. And available at quite inconvenient times in my opinion. I was also awoken on another day by incredibly loud drilling and banging, as they put new furniture together in neighbouring rooms and the rooms above, this was shortly after mid-day and lasted for quite a while, causing me to be unable to sleep and to get a headache from the extended noise. This is clearly a poorly managed hotel, it does not cater to people who work night shifts like myself and my team and they have little care for their guests as an institution. I stay in hotels for work every week, all over the country, and this is easily the worst I’ve been in, which, considering the price, I find a bit outrageous to be honest. I would say definitely do not stay in this hotel if you work night shifts, as they have absolutely no interest in catering to your needs. The only positives I can take are that the few staff members I spoke to were very polite, and helpful to an extent, and that I didn’t stay any longer.

Attended a wedding reception here a few days ago. Went to the car at approx 8pm, all good. When we returned at 9.45 the front passenger window was put in. They'd gone through the glove dept but nothing taken just damage left. Reception staff not very helpful, they gave us a bin bag to place the glass, no courtesy follow up call. Definitely will not be visiting again.

This could be a beautiful hotel with a bit of money spent on it. The entrance is quite grand and gives an air of opulence, but the bedrooms are dated. Still having old wardrobes and dressing tables. The bathroom had a small shower cubicle, but the shower head was leaking. As I walked into the room I could smell smoke. Someone had put a plastic bag over the smoke detector. Breakfast and evening meal are both self-serve buffets with reasonable choices. The lady that was in charge of the restaurant for the evening meal was excellent. She had time for all the guests and was managing the staff very efficiently.

Basic room but it was clean and had everything we needed such as kettle, en-suite, dressing table etc. We were there for new year and weren't told the facilities such as the pool and spa weren't available which was a real disappointment as it was one of the main reasons we chose the hotel. I asked behind the bar if they could put some music on at the night which they did so I appreciated that, it brought a little more to the night than being sat in a silent bar. The grounds were nice to have a wander around in.

Staff are always available to help, and rooms have everything you need and are clean. Currently revamping many rooms, so a lot of investment is going on. Function rooms are great. Many are available of different sizes. Food is always spot on. Plenty of onsite parking.

My wife & I stayed in this hotel after booking with Uk breaks tribute weekend. I must say after reading the previous reviews I wasn't looking forward to the stay, how wrong was I! We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay, the hotel is a beautiful & grand hotel with lots of amenities for a pleasant stay. All the staff were very pleasant, the food was good with plenty to choose from, the room was dated but comfortable & for what we paid, the stay was an absolute bargain . Will definitely return at some point in the future. Thank you 😊

Where to start? Needs a makeover. We were in the 1st floor and the wallpaper in the hall was ripped and falling off, the room unimpressive, only handle lock (upper lock broken off), no coffee/ tea stocked. Breakfast is in no way worth what is charged. Can’t even get a proper coffee- it’s the same instant that’s in the rooms (or you have to go ask for). Didn’t bother with dinner. No security to hall/rooms from public area. I had kids (they with the wedding/ guests that were there) SCREAMING & running up and down the hall at 23.30!! I said something to them- they continued. I went to the front desk & complained- how they couldn’t hear is beyond me. It’s 20ft from desk to the hall. As I was going back up to my room another furious guest complained as well. The night staff doesn’t care. The morning staff at the desk were pleasant but otherwise the staff- why bother going to work? It could be an amazing hotel. The building itself is beautiful as are the grounds.. It’s the safety, decor and general staff attitude isn’t doing it any favours.

After reading some awful reviews of this hotel I was dreading staying there last night on a National Holidays coach trip. However I was very pleasantly surprised! The room was a bit tired but was a good size, had everything we needed and most importantly was very clean! The staff were great especially the restaurant staff and the 2 girls behind the bar who worked really hard to serve the massive queue! Yes this place could do with a lot of refurbishment but for the price you pay you simply can’t complain. If you want luxury then pay for a luxury hotel! The food was also good for the price. Much better than a lot of reviews make out!

Check in good, room spacious but run down , went down for dinner as part of package to be told not much food left by the lady in charge of carvery, no choice apart from Ham or what looked like fish which had been out for a long time. Some vegetables had ran out and not topped up . Roast potatoes were frozen type and awful. Pudding was choice of cake or cake . Very poor . Got a drink from bar, 2 young ladies serving were very good cheerful and chatty, Ended up going back to room with a drink as bar was full no seats available. Noise all night from grounds of hotel , singing shouting ,doors banging , brights lights shining into room from garden . Bed comfy though, got up early to check out before breakfast based on dinner would rather have McDonald's . Overall ,staff very good, but won't stay here again .

Met up for our annual reunion with 22 friends and this was our first visit to this hotel. We were initially apprehensive following all the negative reviews previously posted but were pleasantly surprised. Our room was spacious, clean and well maintained and had recently been refurbished, as had the flooring in the corridors. The staff were polite and helpful, although bar staff on second day did seem less experienced than on the Friday night, possibly due to the more experienced staff being needed to work at a large private wedding function in another room. Whilst the car park does need to be negotiated carefully due to various pot holes it was nothing to distract from a very enjoyable weekend and hopefully will be returning again in 2024

Surprisingly impressed after reading reviews. Really nice hotel in lovely grounds. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and worked very hard. Lots of queues at 2 for 1 bar. Not enough staff. Tribute nights and disco very good. Would definitely come back. Great value for money.

The staff don't appear to want to speak to you, they don't offer any useful information freely, you really have to work to get basics out of them - when is breakfast, do I need to book etc. Even then I didn't seem to get all the correct information. They don't even try to talk to you when the fire alarm goes off twice at 1130 at night, to let you know the building isn't on fire, someone is just smoking in their room. In fact (despite apparently a 24 hour reception) they leave the phone ringing for ages, probably until they can't put up with the noise anymore, before answering. The room is a good size and the water pressure for the shower is good. No one bothered to check the room inbetween nights so the tiny bin was full, wet towels and used coffee cup were still lying around. I also couldn't help but notice that the smell of weed was not unusual here, both outside and in the corridor.

It looks like this hotel is on the up as to being renovated, the grounds were beautiful, the rooms clean but basic ours had a leaking radiator which made the room smell foisty, wasn't impressed with the mattress. Needed replacing. There was a lot going on when we stayed for 1 night so very long queue at the bar with a good 20 minute wait before being served. The staff were lovely and no fault of there own as to service but maybe more than 2 behind the bar might of helped. Meal times were the same long queues again food was average but the breakfast was nicer than the evening meal.

The place has dated decor and some visible wear and tear but certainly not as bad as some places. However, for the price I would say it was excellent breakfast was a help yourself buffet and again no complaints there especially considering the price range. But I do have a complaint which did put a downer on our stay. We booked our stay because the place was dog friendly. But we were unable to have breakfast in the restaurant or bar and ended up having to eat our breakfast in the reception area which didn't make for a very pleasant experience. This is also the case for evening drinks. We ended up having to order a takeaway from the Indian down the road (Balti King) and a few drinks from the fuel station. Excellent curry but would have preferred the social setting of the bar. If it were not for this I think 4 or 5 stars considering the budget pricing.

Lovely building despite some needed renovation work.. particularly the spa/pool area. The rooms comfortable and some lovely features throughout the hotel. The grounds were very nice, breakfast and evening meal also had a very good selection with fresh food. Some renovations clearly needed but still a lovely stay.. the car park could do with a daily litter pick as this makes it look untidy. Sad that people empty the contents of their cars on the carpark in the first place. In all a very pleasant stay

Not sure why there is so many bad reviews to be honest. We stayed for only 1 night and it was just a basic hotel u pay for what u get!! Bed was comfy room was clean we had a jacuzzi bath which was brilliant, breakfast was a buffet but could have been more tastier overall I would stay again if near the area.

It’s important to set your expectations correctly to avoid disappointment. On the positive side, for the price you pay, you get loads of space both in your room and in public areas. You get a big, comfortable bed. And plenty of fluffy towels. On the other hand, the furniture is old fashioned and, in some cases, shows a lot of wear. The dinner menu when we visited was carvery only. There are good restaurants in the vicinity so we went out. I know that some groups of sports fans headed for the local stadium would be fine with a carvery. The shower head was fixed and inseparable within a bath that was once a spa bath (the nozzles are still there) but is now just a bath. It served its purpose.

My husband stayed here, and this is his account for the experience. The beds were hard, and I suspect the mattresses are older than me. The check-in staff were not friendly and were unhelpful. In the morning, when I went down for breakfast, there were no signs directing people to the correct place. When I asked at reception, they were quite rude and impatient in correcting me. When I finally made it to breakfast, I found it wasn't included, and the staff in the breakfast area told me I had to trek back to reception and get a voucher and then come back. By then, I had had enough and left. What an awful experience. The hotel is very dated and was definitely not worth £120 per night for a single bed.

The en suite shower had the perfect water pressure and the bed was in the Goldilocks comfort zone with many pillows. You get what you pay for and at this price it's great. The wardrobe was a bit wonky and there was a stain on the ceiling that would be our only critique.

Enjoyed a two night stay.Rooms very clean and have been updated lately. A beautiful breakfast, good selection, would have liked, some veg included in evening meal. The staff are very friendly and efficient, outlook from the dining room beautiful! I would recommend a stay here.

Sadly the negative reviews for this hotel are spot on. Located in a quiet residential spot. Lovely grounds - apart from roads which have huge potholes. Room was freezing cold when I checked in - although transpired radiator was turned off so I did manage to get it warmer. Room really tired and run down, although looked clean enough. Reception areas in much better condition . Free wifi a bit patchy. Couldn’t shower as water so cold - tried running for at least 5 minutes but to no avail. Dinner described as a carvery buffet. Very limited choices - only one meat and one vegetable. Couldn’t see any options for vegetarians. Poor overall and food really didn’t taste good. Breakfast - again a limited buffet, but food seemed a bit better quality. Didn’t see leisure facilities as no time, but there is an additional cost to use.

After we booked for two nights we read the reviews, and were very dubious as to what to expect. Yes the drive up to the hotel did have pot holes but driving slowly and sensibly was no problem. Plenty of parking spaces. Our room was excellent, large, looked like new carpet and furniture, bed was comfortable, a beautiful new bathroom, all tea & coffee making facilities also a Tassimo coffee machine. The only disappointment was, we asked for more pods for the coffee machine and were told no, apart from that, the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely time and would recommend a visit.

Just been, organized a full bus of ladies from Tyne and wear south federation of women's institute. Could not fault our stay. Food very good and tasty, staff could of not been anymore accommodating for us, moved tables into a lounge area so we could all be together for our evening entertainment which we did ourselves, Bedrooms a little dated but your only in them to sleep and shower. Nothing was a bother for any of the staff, Well done all the staff that work at the royal court. X

Ideal for an overnight stay to meet up with my daughter and spend time together. Good value for money. Needs updating but was clean and serviceable for our needs. £95.90 for dbb for 2 people. Evening meal 3 course..... breakfast cooked and continental. Can't grumble. Close to city centre.

Good hotel experience for the price and a very good breakfast; yes some areas could do with a bit of TLC and updating, but all perfectly acceptable. Friendly and helpful staff; asked for a ground floor and dog friendly room and that was no problem. I stupidly left my jacket in the wardrobe but hotel housekeeping had it safe and posted it back to me quickly. Can't fault their service.

I spend two weeks at this hotel. Value for money is brilliant, plenty on offer for breakfast and night time menu. Staff are polite and friendly. The lady who works behind the bar most evenings is punctual pleasant and helpful. Always had gave you service with a smile. If I ever have to return to Coventry or the surrounding areas this is the hotel for me.

Outdated, inside needs a good paint and upgrade. Room was cold, thin sheets, asked for extra duvets which staff quickly provided. Also offered thick sheets but was too late by then (arrived in evening). Curtains didn't even cover windows, luckily we had big trees outside. Decent basic breakfast-good quality, tasted nice. disappointed there was no decaf, hot chocolate or herbal/fruit tea available when asked. A milk/ veggie alternative would have also been nice to see for breakfast options. Had to pay for pool, not included in price. 15min drive to city centre, met our needs as free parking. free 20 minute room WiFi which is quite poor for 2021. Late checkout of 11am was included which sounds great but .. Housekeeping let themselves into my room when I was in shower and then knocked again before we checked out. Would have helped if door signs were provided but considering we were within checkout time, we were not impressed. Comfortable enough and affordable but probably wouldn't stay again.

Booked as a last minute stop over on route back home. Hotels looks quite impressive from the front and inside the lobby too. Our room was clean and decent size but only had two paper thin pillows on the bed, plus the table lamp didn't have a bulb in. Reception staff were helpful and provided more pillows and a bulb straight away. Unfortunately it all went down hill after that with constant noise throughout the night from couples arguing, doors banging and a group somewhere having a party until 2am. Needless to say we wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Stayed for 3 nights before a Wedding in Leicester. It was a pleasant experience coming from London with my kids, lovely swimming pool and sauna.

Very basic, no heating except a little plug in radiator. A little care of the rooms by the managers and this would make all the difference. Food was great.

I didn't stay here, I visited for a conference. Staff were okay though they did laugh when I asked do I have to enter my registration number somewhere for parking. A point which is very typical these days. The hotel seemed nice , dated though most are these days.

Parts of the hotel are a little tired, but overall good. My attic bedroom was spacious and had a lovely view. Did feel like a maze getting there, going through so many doors and up so many stairs 😕😓. Comfortable bed though. Value for money.

This could be a beautiful hotel with a bit of money spent on it. The entrance is quite grand and gives an air of opulence, but the bedrooms are dated. Still having old wardrobes and dressing tables. The bed had thin mattress. Two small pillows. No additional bedding. Heating did not work. Bath dirty. The foyer dirty. Bar had a cage around it. From lift to the floor we stayed on it smelt awful. Things lying in the lift on the carpets walking to room. Marks everywhere and dirt and grime in the railings etc. Breakfast is self-serve buffet and look awful that we did not even eat. Over heard so many guests staying at the hotel that this and that was broken in their rooms and no maintenance available as it was a sunday The lady at reception did not know what to do with the customer complaints and was flustered. Will not recommend this hotel until they spend a lot of money to revamp the place and if they did this hotel would be nice place to stay

Mixed Feelings on this one and feel our experience was good compared to others. The outside looks great, until you realise that's not the bit of the hotel you're staying in. Our room was great, lovely and spacious but am aware others were disgruntled. We all had time to discuss this when the fire alarm woke us all up at 4am but no actual fire. Again, not something they could probably help. Our issue came with the bar. Should say it wasn't the staff, she was golden. But that was the issue, there was just one. Only one bar too, but yet the hotel had taken a booking for 3 coach trips. There was a wedding happening in the function room which was fine, but obviously priority had been given to them so queues ran all the way out of the room for the bar. This can be quite challenging when you've got children. Then when at the bar, the veggie options for food in the bar were disappointing. Only so many times you fancy chips/garlic bread or pizza. Of course with a bar under immense pressure, what you really need is for the tills to go down. The girl behind the bar coped with this like a champ, but it felt like she was unsupported by management again. Then there was nowhere to sit, but yet a big bar area on the other side of the entrance that was untouched. Great for the hotel that they are able to be busy after dealing with a pandemic and definitely prefer it to a generic chain hotel but maybe think about being prepared with extra staff and facilities. There was an Overlook Hotel vibe about this place but that was fine by me.

Staff great, room clean and comfortable so more than adequate. Food was very good for someone who is a fussy eater. Hotel decor was dated but what do you expect for the price. Would return if in the area again.

My stay at The Royal Court Hotel was perfect as far as I could see. I needed somewhere to sleep while in town and this hotel gave me everything I needed. Even though I turned up to check in and discovered I’d booked the wrong nights, Chris at reception was extremely accommodating in what could have been a bad situation. The double room was clean and tidy and had a large bath. I left feeling well rested and happy, and would definitely stay again.

We were at a wedding and spent 2 nights at the hotel. The stay, apart from the bed, was excellent and the staff were amazing. We were the first outdoor wedding ceremony they had ever done and they did an amazing job. The food was good, main course was nice and hot. Evening buffet was plentiful. Thank you to Elka and Nicky for making it such a special day, and to all the staff who worked so hard to keep us fed and watered, especially the chef, the jerk chicken King!

Never stayed here before, last minute booking. Although the hotel could do with a spruce up we had a lovely stay. The staff were lovely and helpful and the best part of our stay happened in the grounds where my proposal happened. Special moments happen when you least expect it. Thank you for our stay. The only criticism is with the facilities being closed far too early and the pool an extra cost.... 🙄

  • 2/5 Lauren C. 1 year ago on Google
Fair price but you get what you pay for! Staff were lovely!! Room clean but bed hard and awful. Bathroom perfectly acceptable decor in room and hotel dated generally run down. The food was just about edible but weird very limited selection and so was overpriced for what it was. Didn't stay for breakfast. Only gave two stars as the staff were so nice and helpful. Such a shame as hotel has alot of potential
