Lunch Chefs table. A restaurant that's been on our list for a long time. When we saw they had a last-minute cancellation for the chefs table, it was the ideal chance to push us to go. The table was booked for 12 midday. We arrived 5 minutes before and thought we'd be first in. How wrong can you be. We were the last to arrive as all the other guests were already seated, sipping on the complimentary champagne cocktail. Once seated, you get the chance to see what delights are on the menu. It's a combination of the current season and dishes in development. If we could have designed our own menu, this would be it. Snacks Salmon tartlet & beef carpaccio roll. Heritage tomato salad Cornish lobster-tomato consume-burrata Maybe the star of the show😋 Glazed BBQ chicken wing Green celeriac - mushroom - truffle Brixham cod Basil emulsion-courgette tagliatelle- clams Rack of pork Mijote of beans-kale Chocolate and cherry choux bun All this for £60 was an absolute bargain. The whole experience was amazing. With it being a shared table, you can chat to fellow diners and swap stories of other places visited. It was great to see Head chef Luke and his team come out of the kitchen and serve their dishes. Who needs waiters? Front of house team were lovely though. We would highly recommend a visit here. Can't believe it took us so long. Oh, and they've got one of those ⭐️

We're fortunate to have such excellent restaurants in Birmingham. We chose the tasting menu as it's so special. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling great and almost cancelled the booking. I'm glad we went as it being my birthday it made the day very special. I wasn't keen on a couple of courses but with such variety you're sure to like most. I love the theatre too with the dry ice vapour and the attention to detail of all courses. Who would think that Marmite and Honey butter could taste so good!

We enjoyed an exquisite tasting menu for lunch which didn’t disappoint. As you’d expect the service was on point from the moment you enter and we really felt like we were being looked after in a friendly, efficient way and not overbearing or contrived. Course timings were spot on - not too slow and not too quick, giving plenty of time to savour the last dish before enjoying the next. As we were driving we can’t comment on the wine pairing… not this time anyway. The restaurant had a really pleasant, relaxed and fairly informal feel about it, but the star for me was the Mint Choccy Chip. Definitely thought the menu was priced appropriately and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Highly recommend treating yourself.

The worst bit of the dinner was that Chef was too busy to come out and say hello. The food was amazing, the ambience was great. But most of all the staff were perfect. Exactly what you expect.

Absolutely stunning. This was my first experience of eating at a Michelin star resteraunt and it was amazing. We arrived slightly before the resteraunt was open at 12.00 and the staff let us in, out of the cold. The staff were great, friendly and attentive but not overbearing and they explained what each of the courses were. The food was incredible, we went for the 5 course taster menu, but then there was additional an edible charcoal starter, bread and complimentary wine. I feel like only giving this resteraunt 5 stars after giving others 5 stars in the past to not be enough! This is the best experience and meal I have ever had in a resteraunt, reccomend massively! *****

Lunch menu was absolutely fantastic! The speed of service could have been better. It was fine initially but it kept slowing down towards the end. It took 3 hours for lunch in total!

Staff were very attentive and friendly. We got the five course grazing lunch menu and loved every dish. Excellent flavours. Absolute star of the show was the raspberry dessert 6 different ways.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Purnell's and had another great visit. The staff always give excellent service and this was no exception. The food was again delicious, and the atmosphere was special without being pretentious. The veal sweetbread was a standout dish for me, and I adored the honey and marmite whipped butter that came with the bread. Mint Choccy Chip continues to have a very special place in our hearts too. Thank you, Team Purnell's! Keep up the excellent work!

Fantastic experience. We were on the chefs table, with the chefs coming to tell us about the different dishes and the stories behind them. The service was fantastic and the food was beautiful and delicious. The highlights were the creme brulee in an egg shell, edable "charcoal" which was black savoury meringue and potatoes, and a delightful monkfish dish.

Good, but slightly last decade! Booked ahead and paid in advance - seems to be a trend these days! Very smart premises, welcoming reception, professional & attentive staff. Fairly classic tasting menu, not sure about the burnt offering from the kitchen, we prepared presented, etc. No apparent emphasis on regional or seasonal though. Slight issue with the wine but sorted out quickly by the manager. A pleasant evening but slightly reminiscent of dining out 10 or so years ago.

Amazing experience in this restaurant on a very special occasion. We had a vegetarian menu and every item on the menu was delicious, immaculately presented and served with lot of care and finesse. They also took onboard my husband’s request of doing something special on my birthday which was a beautifully presented dessert. Absolutely loved the whole dining experience of 3 hrs as we were very well looked after by the staff with their awesome attention to detail.

Purnell’s in Birmingham is subdued but fun. I thought the staff were great, I liked that they were diverse - reflecting Birmingham and the ambience very peaceful - a great place to go and wind down on a Friday evening. The three-course menu at £45 was absolutely amazing value for money and it worked very well because there were 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 dessert to choose from and my husband and I each had a definite preference, different to each other so we each got to try all the 5 courses by tasting each other’s choice. I wish there were two dessert choices but I won’t mark down for that. I loved the surprises from the kitchen, very tasty, creative and unexpected…they’re the black thing in the pictures - I won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what they are, you’re going to have to guess. And the rustic french bread and home made butter were heavenly, I could actually just eat that all day. Overall, beautiful experience - worth the Michelin star. WHAT MY HUSBAND THOUGHT: I’d definitely go there again. A great lunch out with the wife. Can they start making the bread to go please! #MichelinMemories #michelinstar #mystorywithmichelin #foodies #finedining #MICHELINrestaurants #restaurants #gastronomy #foodies #foodiegram #instafood @michelinguide #purnellsrestaurant @purnellsrestaurant

We had an incredible lunch at Purnell’s. Everything was perfect from the moment we walked through the door. All of the staff were friendly and attentive. The food arrived in appropriate intervals and was not only exquisitely presented, but textures and flavours were beautifully paired to create an authentic Michelin star experience.

First time coming here and it will not be the last!! Greeted kindly by front of house and was guided to the seating area before we was given our designated table while we decided which drinks and what menu we was going to have.. We both chose the taster menu with premium wine/ champagne experience and whoa what an experience it was from the food waiters explaining each dish to the wine pourer whom was very helpful with telling us the background of each wine and champagne we was drinking all in all it was a 10/10 experience, Was also asked what special occasion we was there for our anniversary and to the girlfriends surprise she was given a very lovely gesture on a plate which came in form of a mini desert with chocolate writing which had "Happy anniversary" Can't thank the team enough if anyone is reading this I'd definitely recommend coming here!

Wow! An incredible experience, with the best meal I have ever eaten. A wonderful dining room, with attentive and warm staff, not too over crowded, so a good atmosphere but privacy too. Each course was magnificent, some with brilliant theatre and all with incredible flavours. Well worth a visit, an experience you won't forget. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Prunells has an amazing, quiet atmosphere perfect for a romantic night or a special occasion. The staff were really friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food was great but not phenomenal, and the menu felt like a love note to the nostalgia of growing up with British cuisine. As someone who doesn't have the level of nostalgia, I felt a little out of the loop, but it was still overall enjoyable. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then Purnells is the place for you!

Purnells in Birmingham We went for the 10 course tasting menu for a friend's 30th birthday, youl only see a few of the items because of the insta limit The edible charcoal was rather intriguing, thankfully it was just the look that had similarity to charcoal, it actually tasted like a prawn cracker but did stick to your teeth so water was a must The highlight was the lamb neck which was cooked to perfection and accompanied by a garlic drizzle Fine dining is all about flavour and Purnells didn't dissapoint, the service was spot on and very informative, the only downside was I was expecting a little more ambience given it is a Michelin Star, the mixed grill like tables and hotel like carpet sadly wasn't giving me those vibes I would definitely recommend as an experience and it scores 8/10 on the #RineshRatings

Plates By Purnell’s is perfect in every way in my eyes. The team were perfect. A lovely little restaurant with, a great atmosphere, plus mind-blowing flavours. Ella, the waitress is perfect. Attention to detail. I made a rookie mistake of not ordering bread to mop the juices up. She politely come over and asked if I’d like some at the perfect moment. I think she knew I was about to drink it from the dish it was that good. “Croquetas de queso” Cheese croquettes I’m addicted to crisps, this dish reminded me of cheesy puff crisps. “Gambas al ajillo” Prawns and garlic Just beautiful. The only thing missing from this dish is being next to the sea with waves crashing on a Spanish summer evening. Back To Brum “chorizo con sidra y miel Chorizo with cider and honey Now the sauce with this compliments the chorizo. I even used it with pork. If ordered them for dishes, I highly recommend bread. “pomo en adobo” Marinated pork fillet This one was okay but didn’t excite me like all the others. Thou using the cider & honey sauce with it was good. “Calamares” Crispy squid Cooked perfectly. “Bacalao” Cod, cucumber and guandilla salsa SHOW STOPPER. This is just wow, chunks of cod with an insane sauce.

Chose the 5 course graze menu for lunch. Every course was sublime, rich in flavour and beautifully presented. Wine pairing I asked for with the lamb course was spot on. The pace at which the courses came out was also perfect, giving us time to digest and also chat relaxingly in between. Also witnessed manager Adrien going over and above his duties to help out an elderly couple. Bravo! Edible charcoal gift from the kitchen a triumph.

The guy who served wines was really knowledgeable so we had the great experience. Food was really tasty and spectacular but I thought it was rushed and was missing fine touches as we were asked if there is reason why we came to Purnells so staff knew it was my birthday but we only had a normal meal- I was expecting at least a happy birthday message on my desert course. Overall a great experience but for me fine touches makes a world of difference.

Lovely food with just enough of an experimental twist. Great wine pairings and reasonable value for the class of dining. Chefs table area in bar at front of house, though, is a bit of an odd setting. Felt slightly tacked on, sitting seeing everyone coming and going. Would opt for main room dining next time, I think, though it was genuinely nice to have all the lovely kitchen staff explain each course.

We had a high expectations in regards to the food, as to be expected from the Michellin's star restaurant. Food was good, but not excellent, with an exception of the desert (Burnt English egg surprise 10 10 10) - 10 out of 10 for us. We were very surprised to see the bread and butter, that was literally just 4 slices of bread served with two types of butter (one of them was not to our taste). I would say, it would have been OK as a side, but not as a course. We also did not like the snack, that was brought to us while waiting for the table. The staff were friendly, we found the stories interesting and each dish was described, however some of them spoke very quietly so we didn't get the full details with all the courses. They were however very polite and made us feel welcome. We were asked if we wish to have a still or sparking water at the table and we were given the wrong one for the entire 3 hours. It was my birthday and it was noted, I have received a complementary dessert that was nice but not amazing, but definitely a nice touch - thank you. Wine was very good, although pricey (we went for by the glass option). Overall it was a nice experience, but we won't be tempted to come back, unless for the desert only. Our bill for the tasting menu, two bottles of water and 3 glasses of wine was over £370.

We've been wanting to dine here for years, so expectations were very high. The location was easy to find and there were lots of on street parking spaces. The restaurant is well presented and the staff were very polite and attentive, as you would expect. The food was of course to a very high standard. I would say that choice was more limited than I would have expected on the a la cart menu, with only two options for each course. Initially I was worried because my fish allergy meant I actually had zero choice but to go for one dish from both starters and main courses. Fortunately they kindly bought me a fish allergy menu, which gave me back the choice between two dishes per course. The only other negative I can put forward is for ambience. The background music is played so quietly, you had to strain to hear it. Of course it's not like I wasn't engaged in stimulating conversation with my wife the whole time, but moments of silence really were silent! and for me that kind of deflated the atmosphere somewhat. That and the small menu (unless you go for the taster menu) are the reason its 4 stars and not 5.

Wow, where to begin? A very intimate restaurant, which makes you feel like it’s only you in the room. Attentive but down to earth staff, from front of house to kitchen. We had the taster menu, which was insane! Such delicious flavours, magical presentation and absolute magicians as chefs. Obviously not an experience for everyday but completely worth every penny for an occasion. It’s what we go to work for isn’t it. Crystal clear to see how the team have retained their Michelin star year in year out. Highly recommend and will dine there again, a complete taste sensation and a gorgeous night out. Thank you Team for looking after us and for being so incredible 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

A thirteenth anniversary celebratory menu for Purnells was matched with a personal celebration making the evening all the more of a special occasion. We enjoyed a six course tasting style menu of some of Glynn Purnell's best dishes over the last thirteen years including the haddock egg and curry oil dish that he is well known for as well as the creme brulee served in an eggshell dessert which won Great British Menu. I really enjoyed every course and even my very critical husband could find few flaws apart from the red wine gravy which 'wasn't beefy enough' and the slightly chewy monkfish. Highlights were the buttery glass champagne presented on arrival, the 'charcoal' pieces accompanying the canary style potatoes, the carpaccio of beef with the wonderful onions, the beautifully cooked Chateaubriand and the intensely flavoured tomatoes accompanying this. the egg brulee dessert was also very moreish. It was lovely to be presented with a celebratory dessert plate and the Maitre d was charming. Overall a highly enjoyable, memorable experience for all the right reasons with some wonderful food and wines.

Our first visit to Purnell's will not be our last. Excellent Covid safety arrangements, super service, friendly welcoming staff. My wife and I had the a la carte menu, although we were tempted by the taster menu. The sommelier made an excellent suggestion of a luscious red wine to accompany the venison main course. Delicious food, great atmosphere and sharp but not hurried service. Great Michelin star restaurant.

We felt very safe and comfortable considering the restricted times we find ourselves in - Purnells have 100% got everyone's safety as a priority. The best part for us was that the delicious food we tasted was, as always, 'top notch'. Haddock and Eggs and the Brill were our favourites, followed very closely by the fabulous 10/10/10!

Love this place. There's the joy of watching a well-oiled machine at work, with everyone on top of their game. And that's without mentioning satisfying your taste buds (and other senses) with delicious, intriguing dishes. While it's usually a once-a-year splurge for us, it's one which we hope we can continue making for a long time to come.

A wonderful evening out. Enough spacing and adaptations for Covid, we were booked in for 7:30 but this was moved to 6:30 as the 9 courses can take up to 3 hours and they had to shut at 10 with the current restrictions. Impeccable service from the staff and delicious food. Hope to return soon.
