An absolute MUST visit place, everyone is so enthusiastic and friendly. The caverns are such an interesting visit, especially with the UV torches! I won't add loads of pictures as you really need to see for yourself, it's amazing. You could do a full day out here as they also have a 4k cinema along with the fantastic cafe. Great for children too, they have The Cavewoman on hand to explain about the caverns! The Time Cafe is fab too, all home made dishes with fresh ingredients, a triumph in itself, absolutely delicious. Admission to the cavern was a PR visit but this is my honest review.

Had a great afternoon at Stump Cross Caverns, I highly recommend a visit. You start by having a safety brief but also information on the cave which was well presented. You then head down grab yourself a helmet and follow your map. The map is easy to read and the caves are easy to follow. The flooring off the cave has been made into walk ways making it easier to navigate. The fact that the cavern is easy to navigate means you can spend more time absorbing your surroundings then staring at a map! Also if you see little fairy houses with doors, open the doors it's an awesome little touch! Lastly the food here is FANTASTIC! I would come back just for the cafe if I'm honest. I had a sausage roll which was made in the traditional way with a home made chutney. My wife had creme egg waffles w/ ice cream, my god the best waffles I've ever had! Overall a great visit. Thank you.

A very unique place to visit and a very friendly staff who helps and guides throughout. Family friendly, good food, excellent outdoor place for kids to play around. The drive to this place is unique, follow Google map for the right location. If you like caves and have a nice family day out then it's a must place to visit. Family orientated. Little huts in the cave was very thoughtful for kids and they love searching them as a part of their journey in cave.. also many activities like egg search, numbers etc makes even more interesting. Cave woman : greet when we finish our visit, kids love her company and she was very very engaging.

A brilliant experience. One of the best caves I've explored. You get a UV light that brings the walls to life.Went in September and wasn't busy. have to crouch low in a few places, not a huge issue. Need to manage a few flights of stairs up and down to the caves proper. Good cafe too.

We went to stump cross cavern on a very rainy day as a family of four, kids aged 6 and 11. The value of the ticket (£80 at time of review) in my opinion was phenomenal. Lisa the "cave woman" booked us in by phone as one element of the day was full. We spent a full day at the cavern and there were a lot of treats for the kids (no spoilers). Might be a struggle for less mobile people but remember its a cavern! The cavern in the UV experience was great.. fossil digging was amazing (again cave woman made that really good and was very knowledgeable about the fossils history and geology) sadly we can't remember all the staff names but all the shows and facilitators were great. We had a hot lunch (snack) in the cafe along with coffee ice creams and drinks. All very lovely and service with a smile... Due to heavy rain they were phenomenally busy but still quick professional service with a smile. It's evident that those running it do so at great personal sacrifice and are committed to training the next generation of explorers and geologists.. superb please support by giving them a go! Value for money. Friendly and informative staff. Great that you get to explore the cave yourself feels more like an adventure than a guided walk through would. You get a little map and helmet and mini torch to borrow. Fully lit cave but torch for shining into dark gaps and hidden tunnels to see more features is good idea. Helmet needed for some periods of crouched walking in low areas. I was OK in trainers but I can see why boots recommended. Took me and partner 30 mins to see all the cave. Shop is nice after with some cool mineral stones and fossils for sale. Cafe looked smart and the food looked good but we didn't eat there as already eaten. Picturesque surroundings. Not as big as I was expecting but still good.

Whether you're looking for a rainy day activity or just the diversity and wonders of nature you find in the area do check out the caves. If you're tall there's a lot of bending in tunnels but worth it. Plus you get a hard hat. Water proof clothes and footwear will keep you warm and dry. The cafe does a great all day breakfast and the hot chocolate is some of the best I've ever tasted.

Beautiful cave system which you explore in your own time via a timed entry system (we booked online for the same day). Staff were fantastically friendly and answered all our questions. Kids really enjoyed the quiz trails and the nice prizes at the end. Cafe was wonderful and a destination in itself (again advisable to book ahead), with great moorland views. Lovely homemade cake and sausage rolls. Also a well stocked gift shop. We were very impressed and spent far longer here than we were expecting.

Great day out and experience for old and young. Both the caves and cafe are top notch. The service is excellent, staff friendly, and prices very reasonable. We'll worth the visit for the cafe, caves, or both! You get to explore the caves in your own time which is great. We took it very leasurly and were underground for about 1hr 15mins. Torches and hard hats provided and recommended. Wet in places so good footware advised unless you mucky trainers. The cafe food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Quick and friendly service. They couldn't do any more for us than they did. The "pod" was even better than expected and well worth the booking if you're in a party for a private dining experience. Warm even with snow outside and amazing views. Would highly recommend this place as it far exceeded our expectations on all accounts. Well done to the staff and owners! 5 Stars well earned.

We visited for a Mammoth Cream Tea during the week. It was a totally unique experience to have lovely homemade scones and tea in the depths of the cave! We recommend going in the afternoon when they turn off the lights and give you a UV torch to see the caves in a different light, being free to tour the caves before we had our cream Tea. Special mention to Stephen, who made sure we had a fantastic time. All staff however were excellent as well. Thank you Stump Cross!

A very old limestone cave system that's worth visiting if you are not claustrophobic. The temperature dropped to 7 degrees Celsius inside the cave and be sure to wear appropriate clothing. Some parts of the cave is quite low and you will have to bend down to walk through. Not suitable for people with weak knees. The cave itself is very interesting due to the natural formation (+ effective lighting) and the exploration activities for the children. Give them a visit if you are at the Yorkshire Dales.

A nice cave which takes about 45 minutes to an hour to cover. Before entering the caves, a briefing is given. You are given torches (some areas are dark) and UV torches. Kids are given a quiz ( a sheet of questions) . Along the route there are small/tiny fairy doors which have answers to these questions. So these kids are engaged without getting bored. Overall a good place. But the ticket prices sounded expensive (£45 for a family of 4). Parking is free.

Amazing place! Definitely worth a visit, the road there itself is an adventure and the caves are too. Very friendly staff, loads of food options and stones for sale. The caves are only for the able bodied unfortunately. But for those that can I would definitely advise to go.

We decided to go after viewing the Alex Polizzi programme & we decided to make it a part of our route on the way back from Scotland. So glad we did, it was lovely and unique, this is not somewhere you just get anywhere and you may never see anything like it again in your life. Took the kids and they loved it. Love ceilings in the caverns in places but the hard hats do there job. Overall a brilliant experience, bring your warm clothes and some water resistant warm footwear Shop was great, cafe looked great, lots of parking and the area outside was great for kids and the views were stunning including on route and driving away home. Highly recommended & 6 stars if it was possible

We had a great visit to Stump Cross! We purchased the discovery bundle which is great value for money. The kids loved doing the trails in the caverns, the fossil dig with cavewoman was a lovely informative and interactive hour, and the kids had loads of fun panning for gems and we're so excited to come away with lots of treasure. We also used the cafe and had food and drinks whilst there. Really tasty food and reasonably priced. Fabulous day out for all the family!

Wow wow wow. Been 48 years since I last went here and it didn't disappoint. The staff were so attentive, friendly and informative. The cafe was clean with friendly staff and proper Yorkshire tea, amazingly priced gorgeous food. Definitely one not to miss whatever time of the year.

It was a fabulous day! We bought the Christmas Day experience and it was the most amazing day from start to finish! We were greated by a very kind and professional guy who explained everything about our day followed by a visit to Santa's grotto. Santa knew everything about our young man's wishes and although my son went very shy and was giving one word answers..Santa persevered to make him feel welcome and at ease. The lovely Elf lady then took us to Chief Elf's reindeer food station and not only told us all about the North Pole but gifted my son a beautiful Christmas book too. After all the Christmas magic we went down to the cave and came back at 3pm for the UV experience. The caverns were out of this world..beautiful,astonishing,safely lit up and signed as well as beautifully maintained. Then up to the cafe for delicious hot drinks while we awaited to watch the movie. The gentleman who set up the movie was also superb&friendly. I cannot praise the staff enough! The cave is a natural wonder not to be missed! Oh not to miss the quiz which earned a prize! So many incentives for the children... you absolutely get your money's worth...and more! That is not all..the DECOR! THE FOSSILS! THE CHRISTMAS MAGIC! ABSOLUTE GEM OF A PLACE... We recommend it to anyone who loves to explore, feel taken aback and is looking to make memories for life!

First visit here for many years, enjoyed going down the caves, the addition of the UV light made the experience really enthralling seeing the different veins and shapes not normally visible. Being November meant it wasn't too busy, although looked to be getting busier as we were coming out of the caves. Had a very nice cake in the cafe, and the owners & other staff very friendly and happy to help.

The place is fantastic. I went here during my holiday with my family and we all absolutely love it. We went during the time where the lights were off after 3 with the UV torches and was fantastic. Would highly highly recommend going!

We absolutely loved this place. We were greeted by the cave woman. We purchased our tickets upon arrival but would definitely advise to purchase before, especially if you want to do the fossil dig. We was unable to do the fossil dig on the same day as the cave tour due to the fossil dig being fully booked. We were happy to return two days later as we were staying in the area. The fossil dig led by the cave woman was amazing. She was so interactive with all the kids. If it is raining I would recommend decent footwear for the cave tour.

I absolutely love this place! I usually visit the café here a few times a year; the food used to be amazing but unfortunately a certain hotel inspector encouraged the owners to reduce the menu and it's a bit more basic than it used to be, but it's still very good quality/well priced food and if it helped them stay open then it's a worthy sacrifice 🤍 the caverns themselves are very interesting and well lit, it isn't a huge site so it's easy to enjoy without being overwhelmed or needing to be able to walk long distances; the floors are mostly level and safe for any guests steady on their feet, & after bending down to look at the rock formations I was grateful for the provided hard hat on at least two occasions 🙈 I also love the shop & always end my visit buying some rocks and crystals! It's a really special place with some happy memories, & I love introducing people to it 🤗

Amazing day at Stumps Cross. We absolutely loved it!! Caves were amazing, and the quiz was so worth doing and made it even more enjoyable. My son was delighted with his prize. Loved the panning for gems, so much so we went back and bought two more bags! Fossil talk was great and lunch was lovely. Absolutely blown away by the staff. They are fantastic and a credit to the business. Really took time out to chat to my son and teach him more about the gems! Thanks for a lovely day.

What a fantastic place to visit! We decided to pop here after seeing a couple of the reviews on GMaps, it wasn't something we would normally engage with, but thought we'd give it a try as we thought it would be good for the children to see. They absolutely loved the experience! ❤️🤩 On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly cave woman, we had not pre booked a timeslot, but the staff were very accommodating and advised the best deal for the 6 of us (circa £60.00) We had a quick safety brief 🦺 and the presenter provided us with a map and detail of how to navigate the tunnels. They gave us a few ultraviolet torches for finding the hidden letters to an Easter 🐇 hunt, which once handed in at the end allowed the kids to pick a prize. We then picked our helmets and were left to navigate the cavern at our own pace. It was around 7-10 degree down there and a bit of natural water dripping here and there. There were low level head heights throughout (for a 5'10" chap I had to crouch a little more than the kids 🤣) but what a place to explore, felt out of this world! The map and route is very easy to follow, and there are lots of little fairy doors that the kids spent most of the time finding and opening. We spent around 50 minutes down there and then headed for some lunch at the cafe. (Very nice pit stop 🍨☕🚻) Outside there is a panning station, you can buy bags of sand in the shop, that hold crystals, to sieve out. A bit of final fun for the kids before departing. I would certainly recommend a visit. Thanks to all the staff for the warm welcome and having us for the morning ❤️ If you found this review helpful, please give it a like ✅🙏🤩

My kids LOVE stump cross caverns. Loads to learn, see & do and even better a stunning cafe with amazing views for after your adventures! Staff are always brilliant, always have loads of time for the kids and let the them get hands on with some amazing fossils. We love the new gem panning and came away with lots of treasures. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful trip to these caves. A quick safety briefing and a hard hat, then down the 64 steps to the caves. The passageways are easy to navigate, but some of the ceilings are quite low. I was definitely glad of my hard hat on several occasions. There are many wonderous sights to see and we took loads of photos. We also had a lovely lunch in the cafe. All the staff were welcoming and friendly. They ensured we had a great visit. Highly recomended.

Great afternoon interesting exploring the caves, hard hats a must . Lovely cafe with delicious scones, cakes and ice cream. We sat outside on the picnic tables. We'd had lunch but it looked lovely. Great views not far from Grassington. Small outdoor play area for young children. Staff very helpful. Thanks for the tip about the views from Cold cut on our way home.

We booked a 'mammoth cream tea' in the cathedral cavern and it was a delightful! The scones were freshly cooked and the tea was nice and hot. The staff were super helpful and friendly and the caverns themselves are amazing. I would definitely recommend a visit.

We went with friends today and both families had a fantastic time. The owner was out and about greeting people, dressed as a cave lady, interacted with the visitors and made it more personal. Staff were very friendly and approachable and went above and beyond when showing the children fossils and other stones. The food looked very appetizing and was reasonably priced. We had coffee and cake as there was a decent selection of cakes. The caves themselves were fascinating with loads of facts dotted around everywhere, keeping the children interested whilst walking around, topped off with a quiz that the children could participate in and get a prize at the end. Well worth a visit and we will be back again.

Fantastic cave experience, roughly took an hour. Lots to see and the kids were amazed by it all. Excellent gift shop , selling gems, stones and artwork. Fantastic views from the restaurant. Really nice home made food. Friendly and happy staff, extremely knowledgeably and nothing was too much trouble. Gets busy, so go early.

These caves are a brilliant demonstration of the power of water, while being perfectly preserved for us to see! I love the fact that there is no tour guide, it felt like we were exploring more than just following someone, and you could go through the caves at your own pace. Additionally, the quiz is great with nice prizes at the end.

  • 5/5 Amrita B. 2 years ago on Google
The place is very nice. It's a good educational trip for kids in the caves. The caves are very well lighted and not claustrophobic at all. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The food at the cafe was very nice. The Christmas decor was beautiful too.
