Went to Astley Castle's open day today and it was brilliant. The castle restoration has been beautifuly done and the accommodation stunning. Todays open day was super with period costum actors and musicians.

We visited and walked round the grounds outside. The gate was open and no signs to say we couldn't go in the gates to walk around. This is part of the national heritage Trust so I believed the grounds were open to everyone to walk around....as this is public space bit a woman came put telling us leave...apparently they are renting the house and that means the public paths are off limits....I don't think so! I have written my complaint and feedback get some proper signage, and make your rules clear please!

Pretty poor. Cant rate the accommodation but a nasty local pretty much harassed us for the duration of our visit. Pretty much claiming she was some local custodian of the site. Just awful.

It was a quick 10 minute walk around as it was very cold & snowing ... but worth it to click a few beautiful photos at such a wonderful & historic location.

Astley castle was saved from ruin by the Landmark Trust. At first the modern bricks resting next to the ancient stones looks incongruous, but the more you see the restoration, the more you realise the genius of the rescue!

Great getaway destination. Set in plenty of pleasant country side which is set a comfortable distance away from any main roads so plenty of peace and tranquility, just the pleasant sound of wild life. The building is sympathetically preserved by using as much of the shell of the old building remaining and then thoughtfully creating a modern residence which fits in almost seamlessly to its ancient foundations. The purpose is to create a practical modern beautiful bed and breakfast to hire out for visits. Set in great rural location the site incorporates a lake as well as beautiful old functioning parish church. Definitely recommend.

I had a lovely walk here today and enjoyed the tranquility of the setting. Astley Castle, now a privately managed holiday let, can’t be viewed except on certain days. Check with the Landmark Trust. But it still makes for an interesting walk as you get to read about the the long and interesting history of the the castle and history of its inhabitants. There are plenty of signboards to read.

Nice place, didn't know it was there too be honest. I don't think it's a castle, I don't know why they call it that, looks more like and old mansion. Nice little cafe there, nice old church also and Astley Pool is close by.

The lovely village of Astley has two gems, English Heritage Castle where Lady Jane Grey lived, and boasts three Queens have lived there. 17 and 18 th June it is open, and free for visitors. There is a lot of information on show. The second gem is the church with its wall paintings, box pews, misericords and wood panelling with paintings of monks. It is an attractive scene with bunting and tea and cakes outside the reading room. Plenty of parking and very helpful volunteers. Very pleasant altogether.

Absolutely beautiful space. The ruin if Astley has been lovingly conserved and developed into a holiday let that has been completed to a very high standard. The grounds are tranquil and quintessentially English countryside. The church within the grounds is full of historic features and connections to past lives. At the time of visiting there was an exhibition of photographs and recollections ofvthe Old School House also within the grounds. A beautiful and picturesque place a must to visit.

An enjoyable walk round the field to view the castle. Spoil by a couple of young guys flying a drone from the field. Felt like we were being watch. Also there was cattle in the field which could have been spooked by the drone flying too close to them.

This is a beautiful building with a lot of history. It's not open to the public normally as it's a holiday let managed by the landmark trust. However, they do open days and you can organise a visit to the property on changeover days. The building has been sympathetically restored, mixing the charm of the ruins with a modern and luxurious living space. The living area is upstairs, allowing you to take in the extensive views of the countryside, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are downstairs. The building is wheelchair accessible and has a lift going to the living area as well as a beautiful wooden staircase.

Astley Castle, possibly more accurately described as a fortified manor house, is not normally open to the public. However, it does host open days several times each year. Home to three queens, it is interesting location to visit and has won awards after being converted into holiday accommodation after being left a derelict ruins following a fire in 1978.

Really nice to visit Astley 'Castle' last week (more of a grand house, really) on one of its rare open days. Really nice to see the way the Landmark Trust has kept half the building effectively as a ruin, maintaining it's sense of place, and then added new rooms in keeping with the original. (Not sure I could afford to stay there though 😅😅) The church next door is also well worth a visit, as are the teas at the Reading Room just near the car park. And all the local people, at the castle, the church, and the teas, were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Really glad we went.

It is very pity, that can't visit inside. Only do a walk around.

Great inside : contemporary meets history. Residence of Lady Jane Grey: queen for 9 days.

Haven't been inside, but would love to. You can walk outside the grounds, but what was a burnt out shell is now beautifully modernised propert without losing the aura of a listed building

Landmark trust property which had an open day. Not normally open to the public as it is a holiday let. A fortified manor house which once belonged to the Lady Jane Grey also known as the nine day queen.

It is very beautiful place to visit, I do believe it is nice to stay in, but the price is ridiculous too high: 800-900 pounds per night???? With those money for 4 nights only, I could easily go on an all inclusive holiday -7 nights to 10 abroad (it is robbing that high price, no matter how beautiful location is... ), which justify the plane tickets and all people involved to make your staying a five star hotel staying. Maybe you could make it more affordable for regular people like me —who actually work a normal job —to be able to afford the dream of living for 2 nights in a castle like that. Otherwise that price for me is just a silly way to rob money from rich people out there, nothing more.

Walk in the footsteps of 3...yes THREE Queens of England, most famous being Lady Jane Grey. Opens to the public to visit during Heritage Week - and if church is open next door that is another must visit place

Lovely building, sympathetically restored after a fire and available to rent from the Landmark Trust, hence not open to the public. Comfortable modern flat inside with 4 bedrooms and ample living area. Semi-ruined outside dining space and large grounds.

Simply stunning. From the church, the old cleric college buildings to the hotel ruins... It looks like a film set, simply breathtaking
