When it comes to vegetarian dishes, I typically expect them to be on the light in flavor side. However, after trying the vegetarian platter, I must say that my expectations exceeded well beyond. Not only could I taste the individual spices in each of the dishes, I could also taste some ghee hidden inside one of them (I think it’s the daal). Not to mention that the injera was soft and spongy just the way that I like it. ;) While the amount was a little less than I was used to when going out for Ethiopian food, it didn’t change the fact that everything that I ordered was delicious. Plus, the lady with the beautiful pink hijab at the counter was kind enough to serve me a sample of tea right after I paid for my order. So yeah, good food, good company, what’s there not to love about this place? So grateful to Jennifer Biggs from “The Daily Memphian” for recommending this place! I would LOVE to come back here, especially during their lunch sessions. Seriously, who knew that green beans and carrots could be so flavorful!?

The food is always delicious and the ladies there are very friendly. This place is definitely a new local favorite. The hot tea is also really good. Best Ethiopian food in Memphis.

As a first-time Ethiopian food taster, I opted for the combination platter, and it was an adventure for my taste buds. Shiro Wat: The Shiro Wat was a standout dish, showcasing an impeccable blend of Ethiopian spices. The 'Berbere Spice' infusion was nothing short of a revelation, activating new taste that I hadn't experienced before. Ingera: This soft flatbreads was a perfect accompaniment, complementing the various dishes on the platter. Ingera is naturally gluten-free. What impressed me even more was the generous serving of 3 Ingeras. Sambusa: These savory pastries were a perfect prelude to the main course, with a crisp exterior giving way to a flavorful filling. Basically they are small Samosas with higher filling-to-pastry ratio. The options available for vegetarians are diverse and flavorful, proving that Ethiopian cuisine has much to offer beyond meat-based dishes. In summary, Horn of Africa Restaurant exceeded my expectations, offering a delightful introduction to Ethiopian cuisine. The restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors and diverse menu options make it a must-visit for both seasoned enthusiasts and those new to Ethiopian food!

My friend took me to this Restaurant and Definitely on my Fav list, Food was so delicious Spaggati chicken, Lamb Rice was Yummy.

Food was good. Cooked to order so it takes a little while. Local and independent. I would return if I'm in Memphis again

This was our first time here and we loved it! The staff was very friendly, a nice and simple atmosphere and the food was delicious! From our veggie egg roll appetizers and the yummy hot tea to our entrees- everything was amazing! Oh and the side salad that was served also as an appetizer was so fresh and flavorful! We will definitely go again!

Very very polite people food was the best African food I've ever had. You have to get the three triangle things I don't know what they are called but i ordered 9 more before I left lol. PS. If you are inpatient your best bet is to place an order ahead of time

Had chicken over rice and lamb over rice from this place…it tasted mild and good. Quantity was good enough.

Delicious Ethiopian dishes, made fresh so takes time to make as expected but was perfectly fine since we had appetizers. The tea is hot and delicious. We had beef samosas, veggie rolls, chicken suqaar, beef suqaar with injera and grilled tilapia fish. All were very well made and seasoned. I wish the injera was warm/hot though. Definitely worth a return.

Just got some food on my lunch break - guess it was a slow day so they got my food out quickly. First time eating there, LOVE IT SO MUCH. The sambusas are sooooo good, everyone was friendly, everything clean etc. Definitely gonna bring my wife there sometime

This was our first experience here. Nothing fancy on the inside, but clean and very welcoming. We were uncertain what we wanted to try, and the hostess said that she will prepare a vegetarian and beef/lamb selection that met all of our curiosities. This was such a welcome offering - to customize a large shared plate for us. She brought us an appetizer while we waited. The lunch plate was huge. She provided extra injera. She asked us to taste it and when I said it could be more spicy, she brought to the table a berbere spice blend that was tasty and substantially increased the heat. The vegetables all had a depth of flavor that we savored, and the beef was absolutely fantastic. We chatted with other diners, and found the overall experience to be fantastic. Will definitely go there again when we are next in Memphis! Just can't beat the authenticity of flavors and the very reasonable pricing.

I placed a pickup order, but there was a little confusion and I didn’t receive what I thought I ordered. They were very kind and made it right. I hate having to exchange or ask for a refund, but we both were able to locate the misunderstanding. What I did receive & tried was still very good. I will be back again for another try 😊
