This aviation museum was truly an unexpected jewel. Booking ahead is essential, and be prepared for a guided tour of the extensive exhibits that will likely last about two hours. Together with my own wife, I visited with two pre-teens and their parents. All of our party thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and felt that the information provided by our extremely knowledgeable guide was given at a level that all of our party could relate with. The exhibits are drawn mainly from aircraft that have had a connection with the island of Ireland, and principally Northern Ireland. Although there is a lot more than just aircraft to be seen in this museum. If you have an interest in aviation, this is a museum that you could quite happily make further visits.

What an absolutely awesome place! Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers take time to show you around and tell interesting stories about the various displays... Whether it was Mal telling about ejector seats and clothing or Alan telling about some of the aeroplanes on display, they were able to convey their enthusiasm with knowledge and humour so that the whole family had a great day. The society doesn't have a café, so it would be good to bring a picnic. We ended up staying almost 5 hours and I feel we haven't seen a quarter of what is on display. This place is a real gem! Admission is free, but we decided to become members, which is only £26 per family per year and that gives you a monthly magazine and admission to special meetings. I understand these meetings are things such as talks on specific topics by experts, such as (retired) pilots. Again, a great day out. Warmly recommended!

Had visited before today quite a few years bk, but decided to visit this weekend as it was European Hertitage weekend. Fabulous display of aircraft, engines, radios, medals and other memorabilia plotting Northern Ireland's strong aviation and engineering links past and present. Great displays, informative staff and could spend hours visiting. Highly recommend

Great tour from Alan. Great experience overall. very educational and loads of information. Smaller kids may get a little bored. But a great day out overall. Wear a warm jacket as it gets a little cold inside the hangars.

Superb collection of aviation history great staff on site who volunteer their time to restore and maintain important aircraft to a really high standard. Ken was our tour guide and his knowledge was extensive of the history surrounding all the artifacts on display. Great day out even for the kids. My only regret is not having visited before

Fab aviation museum run by very knowledgeable and helpful volunteers. Some excellent airframes which are accessible. Phantom is a fantastic addition and with a Tornado to come is going to be even better.

Went here as part of a group for a tour. Really enjoyed it. Guides, who are all volunteers are very knowledgeable. I was surprised at how much they had there and how much work is going on to expand into a second hangar. Need to book ahead although at the minute they are open 7 days a week. The tour is long but if you are bringing kids I think there is a condensed version.

I visited the Ulster Aviation Society yesterday with my wife and two kids. Alan was our tour guide for the morning. Alan and his colleagues are obviously aviation addicts! Their passion for all the aircraft and their knowledge of the associated events were amazing. You can’t help your jaw dropping with the magnificent displays when you walk in. You can walk around the aircraft and climb into most of the aircraft. My son is a massive fav of the Phantom F4. He was delighted to see it on display. Very informative and would visit again.

WOW!!! What a place, absolutely amazing. Brought my parents here who were visiting from the states. Wonderful Ricky gave us a tour, he was such a great guide, highly appreciated him, and the time he took to show us around. I can't reccomend this place enough to be honest with you, it was a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you again!! ~Daisy, Brent,Virgil & Isabela (USA, Romania & Dublin)

Visited with several teenagers and adults all of whom enjoyed this great exhibition. Our guide was exceptional in his knowledge of the various types of aircraft and their history. Well worth visiting, our only complaint, we hadn't given ourselves enough time .

I had an excellent afternoon here. The website does not do it justice. The guide I had was extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the aircraft on show. It was great being able to get so close and actually get inside some of the aircraft. I cannot recommend visiting here enough and I really look forward to a return visit.

Excellent afternoon. I didn't realise you needed to book so make sure you do that via their web site. However, one of their volunteers kindly agreed to give us a personal tour. My fourteen year old son loved it. Especially being able to sit in an ex Royal Navy Phantom jet!

Superb. Way better even than I expected. And I expected good. Not just planes and helicopters, but uniforms, rescue equipment, airport history, memorabilia. Helpful guides on an Open Day. Even a famous WW2 airman who lived in our street.

Absolutely fantastic experience! Something that a museum cannot offer. This place allows you to see, feel and touch the various aircraft. Couldn't recommend highly enough. We had a tour by Ricci who was extremely knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humour also. Kept everything light hearted whilst learning so much. Thank you to Ricci, and to all volunteers who keep these aircraft preserved in this state. These amazing people give up their time to do this. Although there is no cost, I thought I would donate more than the average price of a museum visit, as this was far better.

Located just outside Lisburn sited next to the site of the former and somewhat historic Maze prison, the Ulster Aviation Society has an incredible and increasing array of spectacular aircraft on display! Having visited on several occasions I can say without a doubt this is a truly fabulous collection of flying machines along with much of the equipment, tools and important accessories pertaining to the day to day operations of these marvels! The history of our local aviation our Aviatiors, those who made huge steps in making flight safer are all encompassed in this fantastic space which is run by an amazing team of volunteers! This is a fantastic opportunity to really enjoy a first class Aviation experience up close and be guided though the experience by those who have worked with and enjoyed letting others become immersed in this fascinating world! I could not recommend the Ulster Aviation Society more highly!

What an experience seeing all the amazing aircraft that ulster aviation society have for everyone to see. Special thanks to Edgar ( our tour guide ) for all his amazing knowledge about all the aircraft and I had a very happy, excited boy when he was told he could sit in some of the aircraft. Please go for a visit and make a donation to this amazing charity 10 out of 10 ✈️💺

A brilliant museum to come visit if you're into aviation, particularly military. This is a charity organisation and rely heavily on donations. You have to pre-book before coming. I emailed and got a reply within the hour, despite the out of office alert. All the planes and helicopters we saw we're all once working. Many are restored and go on displays. Alex our guide was full of knowledge and very passionate, as so we're all the other volunteers. Theres no set time with the tour but I'd say a minimum 90mins. We were here for over 2hrs. We were fascinated with the stories, asked loads of questions and took plenty of photos. As well as the planes the tour includes the development of the ejection seat, pilot uniforms and a room dedicated to Czechoslovakia. The society is regularly approached by TV and Film studios. Pierce Brosnan recently visited and signed a helmet!! See my pictures. Highly recommend this visit. Gate 3, 94-b Halftown Road, LISBURN, BT27 5RF. See my other reviews on places to visit/eatery's etc in Lisburn N.Ireland.

What an amazing and super interesting museum!! We had the privilege of being shown around by the Chairman himself, who is so knowledgeable about the details and stories related to each and every plane. We were totally enthralled and utterly delighted by this gem of a museum. A MUST SEE!!😍❤️
